Competition is fierce, with a lot of good options, which is great for the customer. Joey B's definitely belongs in that company: the alcohol options are many, prices are reasonable, TVs are everywhere you look, and the food is very good. My wife ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, which she does just about everywhere. It definitely met her approval (not bad, coming from a chicken sandwich "expert"). The seasoning is good, the chicken is perfectly cooked, and the fries are great. While my wife stuck with her old standby, I went on a little adventure. Why does a pub have gyros on the menu? I had to find out. Eating establishments sometimes stray out of their comfort zone to try to appeal to more people, and the results are usually not good. So, how was the gyro? IT WAS GREAT! Seriously, this is one of the best gyros I've ever had anywhere. The pita was thick and tasted like it was freshly baked. There was a substantial amount of flavorful meat (you can also get a chicken gyro). And, the tzatziki sauce was good (it needed more dill, but I can say that about many Greek restaurants). I got sweet potato fries on the side, which were earthy and tasty without any real seasoning. Unfortunately, Joey B's isn't in a great spot, at the end of a strip mall, off a busy road (Van Dyke). I only found it because of Yelp...I would have driven right by and never known there was a restaurant there. But, the locals seem to know they have a good thing going here. The mid-afternoon crowd was decent, which is encouraging. But, the bartender had to also wait on all the tables, which led to spotty service. I do plan to return here, at least in part because I want to be able to say that one of the best gyros in the area isn't in Greektown: it's right here, in Sterling Heights.

We sat down, the music was so loud you couldn't even have a conversation, couldn't hear the waitress, we waited a long time for her to return to our table, we asked her if they could turn down the music and were told "Well I can ask, but the people at the bar want it loud.", We got up and left. Plus, the menu was full of tree nut allergens and there was not one label.

Everything tastes fresh too, which is kind of shocking given how divey it looks, but I'm not mad about it at all. It's the kind of place that proves good food doesn't need to be fancy. Service: The bartenders are what make this place special. Always friendly, always welcoming, and they treat you like you've been coming there for years. Sitting at the bar is my go-to because the conversation is easy. Ambiance: This is why it's a 4 and not a 5. Total dive bar and it could really use a deep clean and a bit of a refresh. It was good, very large and came with kettle chips. I was very hungry and ate every bite, washing it down with a tall Oberon draft. They offer carry-out and have a lot of seating all through the restaurant. I suspect this place gets pretty darn busy, particularly on game days and weekends.

That being said, two out of the three times I've eaten here, I found hair in my food. The first time was a few weeks ago. I ordered a salad through delivery for lunch and found hair in it. It was gross but I just figured it was a one off. I went today with my coworkers and ordered a wrap. I took a bite and a long hair was sticking out of my wrap. Gross. The waitress was great and really sweet about it. She apologized 100 times and went to get the manager. When the manager finally came out, she apologized but didn't really seem like she knew how to handle that type of situation. Didn't say she'll comp it or anything close to that. She asked if I wanted anything else, to which I declined, and then took the food to the kitchen and never returned. When the bill arrived, thankfully she did comp my portion of the meal. All this to say, I will sadly not be returning here

Our food ended up taking forever to come out so we were rushed to hurry up and eat and leave when it came out. For appetizers we got the chips and dip and salads. The dip had a long piece of hair in it and we immediately sent it back and the waiter looked at us like we were crazy for not wanting it. The salads were pretty good - big portion with lots of fresh toppings and dressing. For entrees we got the buffalo chicken sandwiches and the grilled chicken plate. My mom asked for no buffalo and it came with buffalo on it so she didn't love it. Mine on the other hand was pretty average. It was a large portion and had a good amount of toppings on it that altogether was very flavorful. I did ask for ranch on the side when i ordered and it took awhile for it to come out. The chicken plate was just about the only good dish we had. It came with a good spread of well prepared food and was a healthy option on the menu. The worst part of this experience was when we asked for bags for left overs the waiter told us to go get it ourselves so we had to awkwardly go behind the bar to grab it. Overall the service was terrible- everyone was rude. The food was slightly above average but with the hair in it and messing up our orders i would not recommend. Even though this is in prime location there are so many better options in the area. I could see this place having potential for coming for drinks with all the tvs or on the rooftop in the summer but thats about it.

That said we had a short wait at 5:30pm. No issues there as a wait is to be expected on a Saturday night. Once sat waitress approached and she was quite friendly. Took our drink orders and once delivered took or appetizer order of Wings and our Entree order Buffalo Chicken wrap and French Dip. After a longer than normal wait I see food headed our way and it is both the appetizer and entrees at the same time. That should have been a sign to send the wings back as they were no longer an appetizer once server with the entrees. We decided to roll with it though. First wing was fine but when I bit into the second wing it had an odd texture and I looked down at the wing flat to see uncooked, bloody chicken. Thankfully I didn't swallow and discarded the bite into a napkin. We picked at our entrees after that but it ruined our appetite. We flagged the waitress over as soon as we saw her to inform her. She cleared the wings but never circled back until it was time for the bill. Comment on the French dip, super salty. Would not recommend. Also the bread it was served on was more of a ciabatta roll that did not hold up well to being dipped. Thankfully they took the wings off the bill but truly we couldn't eat after the mishap, so spent $50 for a half eaten meal.

The location at Second and Main Street with open air dining on this beautiful June day in Michigan was very inviting. I took a seat in the dining room and was quickly greeted by a friendly server (Gabbi). I ordered the Salmon Sandwich which included a Teriyaki glaze and Asian slaw with a side of sweet potato fries and a Labatt pilsner draft which was served quickly in a cold pint glass which was enjoyable on a warm afternoon. The sandwich is a little sticky to eat, so maybe not on a date night unless you really want to be stuck with the person you're accompanied by, but it was very tasty and I would order again. Another lady was kind enough to drop off a special sauce to complement the sweet potato fries that was delicious. It seemed was a combination of yogurt, cream cheese and cinnamon possibly. The restaurant was about 30% full on this day in the early afternoon which made for an enjoyable quiet stop. It really reminded me of being Up North in Michigan on this day as this experience included several families enjoying time together on a beautiful Michigan afternoon in a nice downtown.
