My 2004 Chevy Truck's water pump went out in San Bernardino. Truck was towed on New Years Eve to Mark's shop (nice that the lot is open after hours). Early the following morning I received a call from Al, the person who runs the place and he informed me that the water pump was confirmed to have failed, but also informed me that I had a safety item that needed to be addressed. Al discovered my left front wheel hub/bearing was disintegrated and the wheel was wobbling. Al replaced the water pump, belts, the wheel hub, and was able to get the vehicle smogged for me and was all done with the job by 11:00am. WOW!! I have taken my vehicles here for years and cannot say enough about the knowledge, quality of work, and personal satisfaction they have given to me over the years. I need to add some balance to the favorable reviews for this business. Those reviews are based upon service received, however I didn't even get that far with them. My research online suggested that I take my car to them, so I called in advance and was told they could do a preliminary diagnostic with the tool that day to retrieve a code. When I arrived, several mechanics were standing around and not one initiated contact or offered service. Rather I had to openly announce in front of everyone why I was there and they all looked at each other as if no one was willing to help. Finally, a mechanic named, "Al" sighed, shook his head as if he didn't want to deal with anything at that moment and said, "Can you bring it back tomorrow?" I explained that I was told to drop by "today" and with some coaxing he said he could plug in the tool though he seemed very adverse to doing so. He plugged in the tool, retrieved the code, at my prompting, conversed with me briefly and explained the car would need to be left all day, all while behaving in an exasperated and unwelcome manner. When I asked if they would be willing to shuttle me home since I couldn't wait there for a full day of repairs with an active and uneasy toddler, he condescendingly asked me if I could find a ride. If I had someone in the vicinity who would be available to "give me a ride", I wouldn't ask them for this service! There are a some primary factors I consider when looking for a long-term business relationship with a mechanic. 1. Hospitable service, 2. Trustworthy, and 3. Reasonable prices. I couldn't get beyond #1 with University Service because of how poorly they treated me as a potential new customer. They neither expressed courtesy nor any interest in establishing new business. A potential customer shouldn't have to persuade them to do business. read more

2014 camary. Oil, oil filter, air filter, cabin filter= 173.51... Had it all day and it still wasn't done when I came back and even called in a couple days before for a appointment. Pretty unfriendly too. Very disappointed since this is my dads go to spot for repairs. Expensive and bad service. Maybe I went on a off day. read more

A special designation should be made for Mark's University Service. 5 stars isn't enough. I went on the recommendation of my sister and brother-in-law who live in Redlands and couldn't be happier with my service and subsequent visits. My first time there, I spent the morning watching them interact with other customers while my car was in for brake repair. They know what they are doing, but just as importantly, they are honest, talking people out of services they don't need, and helping people get what they actually do need. Try getting that at a dealer service center! I've moved around a lot in my life and have had to try a lot of different mechanics including dealerships and national chains. With some trial and error (and many phone calls to my parents), I now know when to laugh at the long list of suggested repairs. Too many mechanics use fear tactics and prey on the ignorant. You won't get that kind of mistreatment at Mark's. Their prices are fair too - and considering you can have the satisfaction of knowing your car was fixed properly as well, I'd say it's the best deal out there. 5-star all the way. I tried other mechanics (moved from Redlands) but quickly regretted it for the trial-and-error, "the computer told us to fix it" mis-diagnosed repairs I spent too much on. Now I FIND ways to get my car/van to Marks...they know what they are doing. [A happy customer through 2 cars/1 van (for me) and 3 mini-trucks (kids') over the past 8 years (today: February, 2011)]. Yes, work with their schedule by calling ahead. They can usually get you in the next day, if there's any wait at all. read more

Awesome auto repair place. Since we've discovered them we will strictly deal with them and not Redlands Ford with whom we were previously with for over 15 years. Mark's is very reasonable and have great mechanics who do great work. I have five vehicles and they have all my business. I have been a customer of Mark's University Service for about a decade and wanted to let others know of the unbelievable service I have received. I admittedly do not know much about auto repair and struggle with trusting others opinion and diagnosis for areas I am not comfortable with. I had been using a shop in Yucaipa for years prior and unfortunately the shop closed because the owner (a friends father) retired. He recommended Marks. So, I gave them a shot. Mark has worked on several of my vehicles over the years and has been VERY straightforward with his assessment of the diagnosis. Even on my wife's vehicle (VW Passat) Mark simply explained that he was not an expert on this type of vehicle and felt that another shop would be a more appropriate choice. In this particular instance Mark was sending a $2,500 repair (replace heater core, +, +) to another shop. In another instance, we had an older Ford F250 that was running rough. Mark and his crew spent 5 days working on the rough running engine which resulted in several diagnosis - but all were fairly costly options. When I returned to the shop Mark explained some of the options but recommended leaving it alone... the truck still ran and based on the level of usage it did not make sense to spend a lot of $ on the repair. I took the advise and diagnosis and Mark would not take a dime although he and his crew had spent a week under the hood! It is this type of trust and comfort that I was looking for from a mechanic. I have found it here and dread the day Mark decides to retire. I have and will continue to recommend Mark and his crew to any and all friends and acquaintances. read more

I've used this shop for over 20 years with multiple cars. I can't be more satisfied. Things have changed over the years and Mark's still has the integrity, expertise, honesty and experience that it takes to have a great shop. As far as price goes, you get what you pay for. I've never had to return for same problem or shoddy workmanship issues. Way less $ than dealer prices and compared to budget "low ball" shops, you won't get sold more parts than what's needed. Nice guys who do good work and stand behind it. I had my vehicle's computer replaced by them over 6 months ago, done quickly and for a fair price. Recently, my vehicle developed an intermittent electronic glitch so I called them up and they agreed to replace the computer free of charge without a fight. Replacement computers for older vehicles are all remanufactured parts, and anyone who knows parts knows that remanufactured parts aren't always perfect. That certainly isn't a mechanic's fault. I am extremely impressed with these guys for the level integrity and service they offer to their customers. That's really hard to find in this industry, and when you find a good shop like this, you stick with them. read more

I called Mark's University Service the day before taking my car asking them about a quote. They said to" just bring it in". I thought cool they don't charge to find out what is wrong with the cars. Well I was wrong, they charged me 80 dollars just to tell me it needs a tune up and the price of the tune up was 455.00. I'm no fool, 455.00 to tune up a 92 Camry. I paid the 80 and left feeling robbed. The next day I called around and found Discount Auto off of Colton st. would the the tune up for 180.00. That is a big difference. After taking it to Discount Auto I will write a review on my experience with them. This is a tool we have to find honest mechanics. read more

Car didn't pass smog. Had part "replaced" took all day to repair 2 things. costs $266.00 for new part from dealership. Took car for retest, didn't pass for exact same reason. Found out "no repair was made." Same old part was still on car, but he did replace $8.00 leaking gas filter. Total scamming thief liar, not owner but mechanic, but owner was standing there and did nothing. ABSOLUTE SCAMMER!!! They pick and choose who they scam; they were recommended by a friend. went to Toyota of San Bernardino last week....purchased a battery for $160...my "advisor" informed me i need a three stage fuel system service due to a "low idle"...cost $359.....took it instead to Mark's University Service...he cleaned the throttle for $35...was done in 30 minutes....Go there!! read more
