We took our 2003 Honda in for some serious repairs. Mark let us know that he did not want to do the costly repairs (motor mount, blown head gasket) until we knew the car would pass the required smog check. He had determined that the problem there was the catalytic converter, and explained that this was expensive enough that replacing it might not be the best course of action for us. I was having car troubles and I assumed I knew what the problem was. I called up Mark and he gave me an honest answer of how much labor was going to be and if we used genuine factory parts (OEM) or cheap aftermarket parts; what the total price would be. I took my car down to Mark's and the first thing I noticed was how clean his shop is. There's no cars collecting dust that have been sitting on the side of his shop for months on end. Next, he looked over my car and let me know that the problem wasn't what I thought it was and gave me advise on how to take care of the actual problem. When I asked him how much I owed him for his time and the advise, he informed me that it was no cost! First off, I have never been to a mechanic who gave me options on parts. I was extremely impressed by this. Secondly- I know when you are on a budget, you tend to go for the cheapest mechanic around. I rather pay a premium for a person who is professional, keeps his garage clean and is honest than take it to some shop who doesn't call me to let me know my car is ready, gives me the run-around and isn't friendly. Last- I would not hesitate to take my car to him the next time I need some work done. I also feel comfortable having my mom and my girlfriend go to him as he doesn't seem like the shady mechanic to try and take advantage of women who aren't mechanically inclined. read more

I cannot express enough how incredibly satisfied and grateful I am to Excel, especially to Mark. First of all, I was in need of service due to a road trip that I was already delaying due to my car trouble that popped up over the weekend. Mark was a referral from another trustworthy great mechanic down the block which is already in itself a compliment. Second, I arrived before opening and luckily for me Mark was already in the office getting ready to start the day. I didn't recognize until now that he could have told me that they were not open and yet he helped me anyhow. Thank you! I could instantly tell that I was in good hands. He listened to my concerns and promptly assessed my situation. Good for me that I was early because several clients (whom by the way I could tell have been there before because he knew their names), came in after me. I could see he was set to have a busy day. They ended up fixing this last minute repair which only took a little while. Lastly, they noticed that I was leaking something which was not related but also unsual. To make sure there was nothing else wrong and to be safe driving through the desert, they checked it out. It just turned out to be oil that the last mechanic must have accidently spilled inside my engine mixed with the normal water released from the AC/coolant system, but due the the reddish color it seemed questionable. All was fine and I was on my way. Everything was above and beyond. The quality of customer service is simply exceptional and he is reasonable and fair on his pricing.
