They've got it. Looking for hunting accessories? They've got it. Looking for rugged outdoor wear? They've got it. Just about everything outdoors/farming/hunting related, chances are they've got it, and chances are at a very reasonable price. Located just off of I-69 in Fort Wayne, this location is easy to get to, and it's wall-to-wall merchandise. One of the things I love about Rural King is that, as far as I know, they don't build from the ground up, but they move into empty retail spaces and just start packing shelves. This location looks like it used to be a Kroger. Kroger moves out and Rural King moves in. They don't spend a lot of time and money doing huge renovations, they just clear it out, install shelve and start stacking. That's one of the charms of Rural King (and of the the things that keeps their prices down). On this visit I was looking for a particular bird seed, and I found it on the shelf easily. Some items can be hit-or-miss and on occasion some sections can be empty, but for the most part I've never been disappointed by Rural King. Popcorn. There's a popcorn machine just inside the front door and it's the first thing you smell. You can get a small bag free. You need to do this. You're stomach is growling because you haven't had lunch yet.

When I was visiting this store this past week, I observed the rabbits for sale and noticed that…read moretheir one small hay rack shared among all was hung so high they had to stand up on hind legs to even reach it to eat. Rabbits are biologically grazing animals who need to eat constantly in a relaxed position. Hay makes up at least 80% of their entire diet, meaning it needs to be easily accessible. They are obviously stressed in the store environment, having people hover over them and reach down, I observed them running at full speed and running into the walls of the enclosure. This coupled with lack of hay is the recipe for gut stasis, a complete stop of digestion followed by death. Even if the ethical concerns of treating the animals in this way do not matter to rural king, I would assume that losing profit would. I am saddened to see such improper care at a "farm" store who you would think would train their employees with basic care practices at least. The only response I got from employees when I politely mentioned this was that the rabbits will "mess up the hay" if it's lower. They are meant to sit in the hay and eat it, so I guess this is true, but they do require more than a handful of hay hung up high for their digestion to function. This is the store at 8801 US-24, Fort Wayne, IN 46804

I hired Joe Galbraith to landscape my front yard, and the project cost me over $10,000…read more His team did a nice job with the landscaping, but he never delivered two pieces of art I ordered as finishing touches: a pagoda for $595 and "the woman with the bowl" for $185. Joe said it would take a month to get these items, and I agreed. When a month passed with no update, I called his office and was told it would take another two weeks. After waiting again, I called to schedule delivery and found out neither piece had arrived nor was on its way from China. I heard many excuses, but I still gave Joe another three weeks. Today, when I called, I was told there was another issue, and it would be two or three more weeks. Feeling deceived, I asked for my money back. I was told Galbraith could only refund $185, not the $595 for the pagoda, because it was a special order, even though both items were "so-called" special orders, meaning they are not in the regular inventory. I ordered both from a catalog Joe gave me, but they would only refund the smaller amount. A staff member told me I would have to wait even longer for the pagoda, but could not say when it would arrive. I was treated as if I should shut up, go home, and wait. No one apologized. Instead, a woman came out of an office to shame me and blamed their importer. She acted as if I should just accept the situation. When I ordered the two statues, no one told me I could not get my money back or cancel the order. I never signed anything saying that. I want my money back. I am 80 years old and know Galbraiths has not been honest with me. I feel they think I am not sharp because of my age, but they are wrong. One staff member tried to intimidate me, but I made it clear I am neither senile nor stupid, even though she spoke to me in a condescending tone. I wanted to tell her she was being rude, but decided not to; she was too uneducated to know better. Whoever parented her did not teach her respect for older folk. I plan to contact the Better Business Bureau and share my experience on social media to let others know how Galbraiths treats its customers, especially seniors. I will also file a small claim against them. I do not care about their problems with suppliers in China or shipping; that is not my responsibility, but they tried to make it mine. They refused to refund my money. I wonder if this nursery is having financial trouble since they will not refund me for a product I no longer want and have waited almost three months for. They have pagodas on display, but they are too small for my project. I am sure when my pagoda finally arrives, Mr. Joe can sell it in his nursery; he is a clever salesman. Galbraiths sells this type of art, so it is not really a special order. If it is, the long wait is their problem, not mine as the customer. I do not recommend Galbraith's Nursery.
