Went to have routine service light-initiated check up. A few items were recommended including oil change. They then told me I needed major replacement of rear end strut and ball joints to the tune of $2300+. I got a second opinion and they told me those parts were doing just fine, I didn't need them replaced and I was being taken advantage of. Mark's Auto Repair tried to rip me off for over $2000. Do not ever go there if you value your money and if you do and they recommend a big expensive repair, get a second opinion. read more

Ryann listened to our concerns and immediately advised against the diagnostic, explaining that it would be a waste of money because she already knew what the issue was. At first, I was a bit short with her--I don't know much about cars, and I just wanted answers. Instead of brushing me off, she brought out Cecil, their mechanic, who took the time to explain the history of our car's known issues and why the symptoms we described could only point to one specific problem. What stood out the most? They were honest. They could have easily charged us a few hundred dollars for a diagnostic we didn't need, and we wouldn't have known the difference. I recently move to Oak Harbor and have both my 03 350z and 06 TL dropped off for maintenance. As an Avionics Tech and have my own repair shop in Florida, the services received was beyond crazy and mind blowing. I could've done it myself as I do every time but I don't have my tools here yet due to Military PCS. If I'm servicing a car and I'm change spark plug, and coil Plug and no other call to me the customer asking if they would love to have and oil change, Valve cover gasket change and do a 360 to see if other things need to be done. Paying for what I paid for isn't worth it for my Z and TL. Total Robbery if you ask me! The two stars is for the nice lady at the front desk who constantly asking what can she do for me etc. read more

I have went to multiple repair shops in my day, and I would like to say this has been the best experience and customer service I have ever encountered. My truck has been sitting in my driveway for more than a year. Most places turned me down to work on it. Marks auto welcomed my truck. I told them no hurries to do any work on my truck so they can fit me in on their schedule on their own time it would be great. They were extremely fast at what they do. Thank you to everyone at Marks auto repair, everyone that I came into contact with was kind and helpful. My story- I am from out of town staying in freeland for a couple months when I had a check engine light come on. It was a misfire and I needed to get it fixed asap. I called and asked around, multiple people suggested Marks Auto so I figured I would see if they could get me in on short notice. They ended up fitting me in and told me to have my truck towed and they would help me out. Here comes the greater service than the amazing scheduling and helping me figure out the problem. The tow truck guy dropped my truck off at a different location ( have no clue why still ) and the people at marks went out of their way to go and get it for me. When it came to servicing my truck- again service came out yet again honest and great. I was told what the problem was, easiest fix, cheapest to most expensive ways to fix and their honest opinion of the truck. I ended up getting the everything fixed because of the suggestions and cost breakdown. They saved me money and time ( which the time is more important to me ). When I picked up my truck, everyone was happy, kind and friendly. It was a nice feeling knowing I was taken care of and that they were honest hard working people. Our battery died while at a campsite at Deception pass , no jumping with cables from kind fellow campers would revive the dead battery. I called around at local Oak Harbor and even in Burlington- but no-one could get us in for 2-3 days. UNTIL WE CALLED MARKS AUTO where the woman on the phone asked the most intelligent and useful questions , correctly guesstimating what was wrong ( receiving our minds) and said bring it over we'll fit it in somehow. Something wrong with truck. Had to get it towed. Not from around these parts (Oak Harbor, WA)....The tow truck driver recommend Mark's Auto Repair, and we can't thank him enough!! Met the owner, Mark (go figure), and lead mechanic, Cecil. They are AWESOME!! Took a look to see what they could deduce. Then drove it literally 3 feet and discovered one of the rear tires was about to blow!! From there, they would have swapped out our spare, but we have a locking nut, so they referred us to Les Schwab. They did this all and didn't ask for a dime....We can't thank them enough. Marks was amazing! I just flew into town and leave for a country long drive tomorrow but I needed an oil change before I left. I called nearly every auto shop in mount Vernon but everyone was booked or unreasonably expensive. Marks was able to get me in same day. Typically, I go to Walmart for my oil changes and I don't get any feedback about the car, but Marks has a whole checklist they go through free of charge with the oil change and told me I needed new brakes and to check my transmission fluid, which I never would have known to even ask about otherwise. They even had an estimate for my brakes ready before I asked for it. While I was waiting, I heard the desk lady talking to customers on the phone and she seemed to know everyone who came in pretty well and had a good relationship with each of them. It's too bad I'm leaving because I would absolutely have made this my exclusive car shop. read more

I have been on the island since 2006 and have a '94 4Runner that I've owned since she rolled off the delivery truck that same year. I put the very first mile on her and every one since, so she is very important to me (I liken her to my own child). As such I maintain her to the highest degree: the best maintenance service, parts and repairs (when needed and fortunately aren't that often) so it's safe to say that the best auto service is critical. I normally take her to Toyota certified service centers when available after researching their service/reputation, however since moving here it has not been as easy based on location. Now the reason that I highly value and recommend Mark's Auto Repair on Midway BLVD in Oak Harbor. About a year ago my 4Runner developed a serious chugging/hesitation problem with an extreme fuel smell emanating from the exhaust. I took her straight to Foothills and although the problem wasn't fixed, it ran a little better. So, after trying almost all the other repair shops (based on reviews/reliability) here with either no resolution or a temporary fix, I went to Mark's Auto and met Cecil. After dropping her off and half expecting the same "we can't figure it out" I was very surprised that Cecil not only fixed her but told me exactly what the problem was on top of actually calling me to give progress updates - NONE of the other shops did that. Cecil and his crew (from the shop personnel to the front desk) realize just how important my truck is to me and treated her accordingly. I'm not concerned about cost when it comes to her as long as it solves the issue and Cecil prices are fair and, again, fully explained; no unnecessary unexpected/additional costs. After all this time here I have finally found an Automotive Mechanic that I can turn to for problems that will be fixed and most importantly of all, a Mechanic I can trust with my "Baby Girl". read more

Mark's Auto Repair is what auto repair should be. Everything about my first repair at Mark's went better than I anticipated. Aggie, the owner, gave me a fair estimate based on my description of the problem. Ryann at the front desk and Shawn, the mechanic, worked together to be sure that the repair started on time and was completed ahead of schedule. This was a non-standard repair - the extent which could not be determined until the mechanic had a closer look. The total bill was 1/3 of the original estimate due in large part to the skill of the mechanic who I could tell by his explanation knew exactly what he was doing. Any reader of this review may suspect that it has been written by a fool or fabricated to drum up more business - not so. However, I admit to being a fool in that for many years I have taken my car to less than competent mechanics or shops that overcharged because the profession in general is less than reputable. This time, paying for minor adjustments to solve a persistent problem with my 1993 Nissan Sentra was getting me nowhere. So, I did my own research, purchased the parts that I thought I needed, and went in search of a better auto repair shop. I chose Mark's Auto Repair based on internet reviews and because my first contact with the owner made me feel like I would be treated fairly. I have high standards and a low budget so I want to keep my 27-year-old low mileage economy car safe, reliable, and looking good for many years to come. As long as I can get parts for my Sentra and as long as I live on South Whidbey Island, I plan to drive 40 miles to Mark's in Oak Harbor for all future maintenance and repairs. read more
