Too many stalls/food displays near the entrance meant people are pushing and shoving to get into the store itself. On a Saturday morning, a shocking amount of food in the veg section was completely empty. Staff appear so frustrated that they are literally shouting at the top of their voices to direct people around the store and to the tills. Not a nice experience. I heard a few people say they prefer shopping at Waitrose - I think I might count myself in that group too. Maybe it's just teething problems - but sadly I really didn't enjoy my shopping experience after the store has been shut for 7 months

As my fellow Brixtonite Glenn M has noted, it is a rather limited in some departments, specifically the clothing and my personal area of interest, ladies smalls (aka lingerie,) but, that said, it don't do too badly in it food and wine selections which almost makes up for it. One of the more dangerous items of food sold here, is the all butter apple turnover. Oh my my my! I'm sure these babies are about 1000 calories each but they are so good! Please note that I take no responsibility for those of you who go out, try them, and consequently form and addition. Not my fault!

I remember when I was at school and Kingston had undergone its transformation and the store first…read moreopened. There was a time the store would have had a 5 star rating. Now I give it a three star rating as its still better than many other places but not what it used to be due to inconsistencies. I always buy electricals from here as large domestic appliances come with an automatic two year guarantee and televisions with a five year guarantee. Due to challenging circumstances in the space of over six weeks have had to purchase a Bosch washing machine, Sony TV and Bosch dishwasher. The washing machine salesman was excellent, managed to match the Bentalls offer (the other large department store in Kingston) and all was done. The TV was a hassle because I spoke to three people and none had the authorization to take payment over the phone so I had to go into the store, wait for an available salesperson just to make payment as I knew what I wanted and then wait for ages to collect the TV. Previously could phone up, place the order and then just go to collect it as it would be ready. Most recently ordered a dishwasher, the salesman was happy to match the Bentalls offer but then he couldn't process this through the till and so he asked an older grumpy looking colleague who then asked the department manager who said no. I was disappointed because the salesman had agreed and it was only because he seemed inexperienced that he didn't know how to process the discount through the till so the transaction cost me an extra 45 pounds unnecessarily. Its only because I like the idea of the profits being shared amongst the workers of the John Lewis Partnership that I placed the order otherwise would have gone back to Bentalls. When I queried that a few weeks earlier the salesman had matched their offer he just said "you were lucky", I thought no you agreed to it too its just didn't know how to process it through the till. The delivery service is first class with all delivery drivers cheerful, polite and helpful.

The carrot and walnut cake is my favourite. It costs justs over £2.50 for a small/medium cake which serves about 4 people but it is definatly worth every penny. Their biscuit collections are also very good and the cookies are definatly better quality than what you would get from your local supermarket. Marks and Spencers don't really have many sales but then again everyone knows the quality so will always pay the asking price all year round.

Interestingly, this store was part of the few 27 stores which were originally saved in House of Fraser's closing plan and take-over before more stores were added. This hotel is one of the many stores House of Fraser have in their branch network which was taken over independent department stores, and I like how they have the historical mentions of the old store in this one, I found it cool and fascinating that a department store has stood on this exact spot since the days of The Army and Navy Co-operative in 1871, and how even though it has changed a hell of a lot, it still remains on this site. The store was modern to an extent, but it didn't stand out as much as the larger and bigger stores such as Manchester Deansgate and the flagship London Oxford Street stores. The store had one main entrance with automatic doors, the rest were either blocked off or with heavier doors which were definitely in need of refurb to perhaps appear more welcoming. The product selection was okay, however, the store was understaffed so sometimes it might have been a struggle to find what you are looking for and a member of staff to help you. It certainly isn't the best House of Fraser branch in London, albeit it isn't terrible it does require a good number of improvements so can only warrant a two-star rating for now.
