Tons of different toppings available, ranging from the usual blue cheese and bacon all the way to the far end of the spectrum - beetroot and pineapple. I would have gone with four stars, but I think the prices were too high. £7 for a basic burger, £3 for fries (enough to share with two or three) and £3 for a beer - £13 ($21) for a lunch. Veggie offerings available include Felafel and Mushroom. Chicken for those that don't eat red meat.

I had a chili based burger, along with a portion of skinny fries. Someone else said in their review that a portion of fries was enough for 2 or 3 people but I suggest that's only true if they are 2 or 3 very skinny people. I'd get a portion each if I were you. The food was good, the fries were very skinny (think McDonalds but with an eating disorder) and tasted great. The burger is cooked to your preference with the standard being pink in the middle and it was tender and juicy. My burger lacked any real chili kick, but I find this is usually the case everywhere I go so maybe it's just me. So far so good right? So why only 3 stars? It's just too expensive for what you get. We had 2 burgers, 2 fries and 2 drinks and it cost £30. I could go to a pub and get 2 steaks with fries (and veg) and 2 drinks for less than that, and you know what they say. Why eat burger when you could have steak? I don't mind paying for a good meal but GBK just seemed like it was a bit of a rip off. Also, having sampled the delights of Dirty Burger I am now enlightened as to how ridiculously good a burger can be, and GBK didn't quite step up to the mark. (No Dirty Burger branch local to here, but worth the trek to London just to try one, or two, or three)

Yeah, it's actually a pretty awesome pub. It has that real country English charm, despite the fact that Datchett is literally an Exurb of London. The Royal Stag used to be my local, it was lively, warm and friendly with great food and atmosphere and the perfect setting for a Christmas meal. After having not been for over 2years I decided to pay it a visit. granted I visited it on a rainy Saturday afternoon so it was pretty empty. The pub looked the same, but all had changed. It looks like the pub has changed hands since I last went and there was a different menu. Really hungry I decided to order a jacket potato and my boyfriend decided to get a cajun chicken burger, the price seemed reasonable and we were starving!!! As we waited I started to eat my words about the pub being so great. 50mins later our food order finally arrived, I was starting to wonder if they'd actually been growing my jacket potato and whether they were hand rearing the chicken for the cajun burger before we got our food. I was really disappointed because it took so long and then noticed that my jacket potato had been microwaved as it was all chewy. The only redeeming feature was the lady who served it, who was smiley and friendly but she gave no mention of a sorry for your wait, I couldn't even understand why it had taken so long when the place was practically empty. Also as we were finishing up a lady went to the bar to complain that her hot drink had been served to her cold eek! Sadly I think The Royal Stag is another victim of being not as good as it used to be, I don't think I will be going back in a hurry to this one or maybe only go here if you want to grab a drink if you're in the area.

I ordered a basic lunch of the smoked chicken quarter and sweet potato fries. It was delicious, if I'd closed my eyes it could have been one of the better BBQ restaurants back home! The chicken was tender, with a nice smoked flavor that was noticeable but not overpowering the chicken. The sweet potato fries were among the best. Usually sweet potato fries tend to be a bit on the soft side with no crunch. These were scrumptious with a little crunch on the outside and soft and steamy inside. Yum! The slaw was also a hit with me. The dressing was a bit different than what I'm used to, but I couldn't figure out why. Nonetheless, it was a vinegar base that went well with the chicken and had a nice jalapeño kick to it! The sauces were good, I tried them all, but the chicken didn't really need any sauce. I will note that the mustard based sauce was unlike any I've tried but I am not fond of mustard base sauces to start with so I've not tried many. The service was good, our server was pleasant and it was nice enjoying BBQ in a rustic pub atmosphere. My only complaints are the slaw serving was a bit small. It was just the right amount to put on a sandwich but to me it wasn't enough for a side; and part of the chicken breast was just a wee bit on the dry side, but not enough to really detract from the meal or make the chicken tough. I've smoked enough chicken to know that chicken breast can go from moist and juicy to cardboard pretty quickly so timing can be very tough. Overall I found the meal delicious with some great smoked chicken and superb sweet potato fries! If we're ever back in the area I'll be back here for a meal!

Absolutely delicious!…read more The food here is excellent, and the menu has a lot of options to choose from. We came early in the morning, and there were only a couple of other diners eating when we walked in. We were promptly seated and our drink order was taken. There was only one server, and he didn't come back with my coffee, or take our food order for ages. I admit, I was very frustrated with the long wait, and mumbled under my breath about how long it took to make a coffee. Unbeknownst to me, the server was right behind me and heard my remark... needless to say, service was prompt and efficient after that! I ordered the Plant Plate and was absolutely blown away at the huge portions, also how delicious everything was. I'm American, and my spouse is British, so I always thought it was strange to watch him eat baked beans for breakfast over the years... but surprisingly, it's pretty good and I'd definitely have it again. My spouse had the Pancake Stack with fresh fruit and really enjoyed his as well. The dining room is bright, airy, comfortable, and clean. The toilets are clean as well. Overall, the food was excellent, reasonably priced, and a great value for the huge portions and fresh, delicious food you get to enjoy. Highly Recommended!

Like most travelers, we were on somewhat of a time crunch so debated trying to grab a meal at a sit-down place like this. However, the sign near the hostess stand said food was coming out of the kitchen within five minutes so figured we'd give it a go. We were quickly seated and then quickly greeted by a server - if you're an American you'll know service in the UK isn't ever quick (and I don't mean that rudely, just a different standard), but this place is speeeeeedy! They weren't kidding, food was out in less than 5. I ordered a flat white coffee and farm fresh avo toast with fried eggs. My husband opted for the eggs benny. I'd say the food was A-OK, nothing to write home about but did the job. Certainly was a fan of the coffee though. And the atmosphere!
