So we went to this place the other night called Marker 20 in Hampton Virginia. I was initially told it looks like a hole in the wall, but when you get inside, everything is beautiful. I agree--it does look like a hole in the wall from the outside. The inside wasn't as nice as I expected, but it was reasonable. We had the crab dip and cheesy rice balls as appetizers. The crab dip was a bit too smooth for my taste. I think some places make it with a cream-based product and blend it, so you don't get many chunks of crab. I prefer chunky pieces of crab in my dip. That said, it wasn't bad. I usually eat a little and then stop halfway through because it's just not my preference, but this one was okay. The rice balls were good. We also had the blackened tuna, which was actually pretty good. It was a dish we were able to split between the two of us, and we both enjoyed it. I didn't like getting my drink in a plastic cup--that set me back a bit. All in all, it was a decent experience. It's on my list of places to visit, but probably not somewhere I'd go every six to eight weeks. read more

I came on a Tuesday night and had the social smash burger (jalapeños with pepper Jack cheese)- totally delicious! My friend also ordered it, and it wasn't the same thing I had, so that was odd (we did order at totally separate times, and we were in a larger party- still odd). We love Marker 20! The food is always fresh and delicious! My favorite remains their crab dip! I have tried other recipes and this is still the best! The fish and chips is a nice portion as well as many of the other items on the menu! They are located in downtown Hampton close to air and space museum, waterfront and Mill Point park. Live music sometimes too! Bar atmosphere but we have always taken our young daughter during the day and sometimes even our dog when we sit on the covered deck. read more

I was visiting from out of town and a friend of mine had told me about this wonderful place so we went to check it out. They had not only indoor seating but also a a covered patio where a very good performer was entertaining AND they allowed dogs on the patio. It only gets better from here! Our hostess was prompt to come to our table and patient with my "I can't decide" inability to make a decision, returning to our table a couple of times before we finally ordered. The food was AMAZING! The sweet potato fries alone are worth the 14 hour drive I made to get to Hampton, VA. The fried shrimp were good but the crab cakes were delightful. So glad to see local restaurants open and serving the local patrons! I love this place, especially on nights when NFL games are on. They have several Tv's inside where you and family/friends can get together to watch your favorite game all while enjoying a delicious drink and good food. I ordered the bigass burger with fries and lorry was it a big burger! Cooked perfectly, the fries were perfectly spiced and crunchy. No soggy, oily, tasteless fries like most places. These babies were delicious (and I normally don't eat the fries served with burgers). The burger was quite tasty too! Cooked to a perfectly pink center, spiced just right and melt in your mouth cheese made this one of my favorite meals served here at Marker 20. Service was excellent. Our server was polite, professional and attentive EVEN when she ended up taking the outdoor tables and all of the bar tables. She was super busy, but still managed to take care of all of her customers. Talk about an asset to Marker 20s business and team. All-in-all...a fun place to meet friends and have a good meal. We saw that dogs were on the porch so we asked for a table and let them know we had a dog. They said just sit and someone will come out. A few moments later we were asked to leave because we have a dog and was told if you have a dog you have to be there before 5pm. I call BS!!!! We attended Marker 20 yesterday for lunch. We sat outside on the Patio, which was very spacious. There was only one waitress for the entire outside. I will applaud her because she was able to still do a good job. The crab Philly wrap was really good, however, it wasn't as thick as it looked in the pictures. Have been a few times with our adult kids and it's a groovy place that makes you always feel welcomed. Great servers and delicious food. I am from MD and I like their crab dip. We love the cheese curds. My daughter loves the chicken wrap my son in law got the fish and chips and it looked delicious and I love love love the sweet potato fries. We showed up unannounced around noon with at least 7 baseball families. We were seated outside. When it looked like rain, they quickly moved us inside to a back room. So I've been going to M20 for a very very very long time. It's sad to say I'll never go back. From the moment we stepped in to no waitress (in the kitchen chatting with the cook) to her coming off as bothered by any of the small simple requests , straw or napkin. Anyway the Thai shrimp app was the star of the night. The crab cake sand bun was old and hard on the bottom bun was cold to the touch. I visited the restaurant on a Sunday for brunch. The service a great. Friendly and fast. Couldn't have been better. And the food came out quickly and hot! The only downfall there is was the taste of the food. I felt that both dishes did not have any flavor (seasoning) added to them. However, the house potatoes were great. The daily special (until 5) was supposed to be a double smash burger and tots, but they 86d it before 445pm. That's the only thing that caused a one star reduction. The "Big Ass Burger" was ordered blackened and it didn't disappoint. I do question the need for a 1$ upcharge for a slice of cheese. It was tasty, the fries were awesome. The two times we came here some of the staff was rude. Same rude waitress both times. The food was just ok. Huge portions, but not consistent. My crab cakes were very wet, like a cottage cheese consistency. Cole slaw was awful. It tasted like old cabbage. Both visits, our whole table agreed. Hush puppies were pretty good! Flounder. We had fish and chips. The fish portion is huge, but makes the batter thin and soggy. Zero flavor. Chips were just okay. Marker 20, you beauty, wish I'd met you earlier! First things first, I love a loud welcome when coming through the door; it always gives you a sense of belonging - even if it is your first time. The bartender was super friendly and seemed to be enjoying his time with the regulars, which is something you don't always see. Our server was really pleasant, she got our drinks quickly and took our food order. For starters we opted for a Marker 20 House Special - the Crispy Thai Shrimp. The starter came well presented, was a generous portion and definitely freshly fried as it came to the table very hot (temperature wise!) The sauce was delicious too! Just as we finished our starter, our server collected our plates and literally straight after came our mains. Right on time! These guys don't slack! I ordered the Crab Philly Wrap which came with a large portion of fries and the wrap was stuffed. Just the right amount of cheese, peppers, mushroom and plenty of crab. But seriously filling. Don't order this if you're not hungry - but if you are, I assure you will not go home hungry. My other half ordered the Tuna Steak Sandwich and upgraded his fries to sweet potato fries. Upon ordering this, the server asked how he wanted his tuna steak cooked; of course, options from rare to well done, but also how he wanted it cooked - blackened, grilled or fried, which is a nice option making the steak more to the individuals taste. He went for blackened and medium rare - and he was not disappointed. Cooked to perfection! On the side with his dish came the slaw, which was super tasty and not overpowering or sloppy how some slaws come. The only thing he didn't particularly enjoy was the cinnamon & brown sugar dip that came with the fries - but this is down to personal taste. I'm a dessert freak and have a very sweet tooth, so I did not leave this dip in the corner like they did baby in dirty dancing. Oh no - that dip got me dancing in my seat. This is the only reason why I couldn't finish my fries and my wrap... Guilty! Unfortunately, no room for dessert (very unlike me!) but I will be back for it, and to try the 'dirty rice balls' lol. Crab dip is fire (yeah yeah they use toasted buns or subs) ordered a shrimp po boy which wasn't to shabby (nothing compares to a loaded shrimp po boy from New Orleans), a flounder dinner which was 2 huge pieces a side and a salad! I was looking to have a nice drink, with some family and friends on Saturday 28 Sep 24. They suggested going to Market 20. I arrived they weren't there at the moment, so I get my ID checked, get a wristband, stood outside listening to the band (very entertaining). Finally everyone shows up, we go through the front entrance with no problems. While at the bar, awaiting drinks (ignored us, for regulars I assume. Finally after patiently waiting, we are finally getting served by the bartender....member one, asked for a Top Shelf Long Island and not a well (at our over 50 age...well/bottom shelf liquor does not sit well). apparently that request didn't sit well, with her. Nothing negative seem to transpire, during payment. shortly after member paid, security told us we had to leave, we asked why (there were no loud outburst/altercation)...so we were all bewildered on the request and just aggressive behavior towards us. Again, we asked what was the reason, we were only told; because she (bartender/manager/owner?) said, we had to go...Security was unprofessional to professionals. I Will NEVER Patronize this place again. I'm asking all my Military Family (Active Duty and Veterans, VA Medical staff and other Professionals to AVOID this establishment. read more

If you are into a dive joint near the water with DELICIOUS food then this place is for you. It has such a cool vibe in downtown Hampton!! They offer a good happy hour from 4-7 Monday - Friday and have a little bit of everything. Since you are so close to the water there is no denying that the seafood is fresh and tasty. There is also a patio section for a fun outdoor scene during the spring & fall! It can get a little loud in the bar section but that's just part of the fun. I had dinner at Marker 20 this time. I've had a quick lunch there before. The place was crowded and people kept coming in. I sat at the bar, but there are booths in the bar area and tables in the back. There is also a patio seating area outside. Ordered a pitcher of beer and the andouille sausage and chicken pasta. The dish came with garlic bread and was a nice portion. It had roasted tomatoes and asparagus. Very good! The service was very friendly and fast despite the crowd. I was served by the bartender of course which may have made things quicker. I would have tried dessert, but they had only one offering a cheesecake with mango and strawberries. Total with tip was low $50's. I'll be back to try other items I saw on the menu. Didn't take any pictures this time, but the presentation of the dish was nice. This was our third stop for my bachelorette party. It was packed on a Saturday night with no mask in sight, so if you're not comfortable with that, I def would not recommend here. I love coming here for the block parties but tonight i came with a friend for her bday and i asked the bartender where we could order food if we were sitting outside and she said there were waitresses outside. I have been waiting for 20+ minutes and no one has even approached us, but a marker 20 bouncer/bus boy walked passed us and said "y'all look angry, smile." mind you we are women and personally i find that comment very upsetting. i'm very disappointed with this experience. read more

Inadvertently found through the yelp app! We actually found a place next door, Tap Room, which we were going to go for lunch. We walked in and they didn't have any tables. So we decided to go to Marker 20 instead which seemed like a good choice. We sat out on their patio area. I can imagine it's a real nice place to go on a summer night. They were setting up for something which seemed to be happening later that night. I had the grilled vegetable wrap and it was good. They have an option for couscous & feta salad which is an awesome alternative to the fries. My friend got the fries with her sandwich and I tried one and they were delicious. Nicely seasoned. They went a little above and beyond because they brought out hot fresh hush puppies from the kitchen saying they made too many for another order and gave them to us on the house. It was pirate weekend and this place was busy. They did allow you to seat yourself which was good for groups. We ate on the patio which was a great place to people watch. Marker 20 was one of the main places within walking distance that had a variety of seafood which is why we ate here. They also had a good beer menu for my thirsty pirate friends. We started with an appetizer of crab dip. It had a lot of crab and a good zest to it and it came with toasted garlic bread. It was very good. I got a seafood platter which came with a salad, broiled shrimp, a broiled crab cake, cole slaw and a side. My side was the cumcumber and onion salad. Oh. And hush puppies. It was a meal. The seafood parts were great. The crab cake is massive and has a good bit of crab. and the sauces that come with it are amazing. The slaw was too plain for me, hardly any flavor. The pups were crispy and soft on the inside and savory. The cucumber salad reminded me of pickles. It was very bitter and sour, which was okay, but I couldn't eat it all. I was expecting more of a sweet pickled taste and it was not sweet. Service was okay. Our server was very busy, but our food actually came out fast. I did have to go inside to use the restroom. The vibe of the inside was dark and more bar like. The restroom is next to where dishes are bussed and it didn't smell great. There was a line for the 1 person women's restroom. And the restroom wasn't in the greatest condition. So overall, I had a great dinner on the patio and would come back. read more
