A great riverboat tour that gives visitors a good history of the iconic Author While visiting Hannibal, we decided to take a ride on the Mark Twain Riverboat, and it turned out to be a very enjoyable way to spend about an hour on the Mississippi River. The riverboat departs from the riverfront in downtown Hannibal, making it easy to combine with visits to the other city sights like the Mark Twain Boyhood Home, museums, and the other attractions in the area. Before boarding, there is a nice gift shop where you can browse for souvenirs and they offer a photo opportunity to capture your visit before the cruise begins. The boat has three passenger decks with plenty of seating, so it wasn't difficult to find a comfortable place to enjoy the trip. We chose seats on the forward starboard side of the middle deck, which gave us some welcome shade while still providing excellent views of the river. As the boat makes its way along the Mississippi, the narrator gives a running commentary on the history of Hannibal, Mark Twain, the river, nearby islands, and many of the local landmarks. It adds a lot to the experience and helps you appreciate why this area played such an important role in Twain's life and writing. The cruise itself is fairly short, but that actually made it just about the right length. It provides a relaxing ride on one of America's most famous rivers while offering some beautiful views of Hannibal from the water that you simply can't get from land. Overall, we had a very nice time and thought it was well worth doing while visiting Hannibal. If you're interested in Mark Twain, the history of the Mississippi River, or just want a relaxing break during your visit, I think you'll enjoy this riverboat tour. Enjoy! read more

We went on this boat tour so we could say we were on the Mississippi!!! The staff was friendly. Easy to book via internet. Easy to find once in Hannibel. Was only one hour so not alot of visual. But did give a different look to Lovers leap and information about the river. The boat staff were friendly and they did provide food and drinks for purchase. Hot dogs, chic salad, nachos, popcorn , candy..and did look like it had a full bar. The boat was very comfortable. Three levels. Deck one is all inside, deck 2 is in and out and three all out. One thing I was said about is they have cover over the paddlewheel so you couldn't see it. Kinda defeats the purpose of being on a paddleboat....is to see the paddlewheel. Lol Be prepared that the water is not clear like the ocean or gulf....but the Muddy Mississippi. At this time it was above the banks so lots of debre. **parking is a bit tricky, the handicapped assigned parking is NOT the closest parking to the gangway. Be prepared to walk if using a walker! If you're a tourist in Hannibal I'd highly recommend booking a Mark Twain river cruise. You can book them online in advance--note that your ticket and email will say to meet at the office prior to your tour for loading. As of our visit (July 2019) the loading area and main office aren't open and we wouldn't have known that if not calling to check it out. You'll go to their "alternate loading area" due to construction/higher water at the original location. They plan to have that corrected by year's end. Signs for the alternate office and loading area are around the docks but it's basically around the corner from the bar that's at the bottom of the hill past Mark Twain Brewing Company. Anyway, we enjoyed the tour. We did the standard tour rather than the dinner tour as it was half the price, we'd rather be outside on the deck than in the cabin, and we wanted to eat somewhere else for dinner that evening. Drink and snack prices for the standard tour are fair though. The tour captain is good, tells enough local factoids worth hearing without constantly talking. It's a pleasant detour and fits in with everything else you're apt to do when in the area. read more

The riverboat tour was informative and fun. We got to learn about the Missouri and Illinois side of the Mighty Mississippi. The captain was excited to hear about where we traveled from and the staff was on top of caring for their passengers. We did not do the dinner cruise but it looked like a great experience. Captain Steve was good. He was informative, funny, and very gentle with the boat. We had a good time relaxing on the boat and hearing the stories and information. He was able to point out landmarks easily and we even saw a Bald Eagle. This tour was about an hour long and it's great for groups, couples, families and more. Worth the stop. read more

Food was great!! Buffet style! Name on table so no need to hurry to be first in line! We did the Friday cruise for dinner it was very nice and romantic. The music was great one trip to buffet but the plates they give you are a good size very filling food. Out of souvenir glasses which was a downer. But very nice staff and crew! Loved our table at the windows and after dinner you are able to roam the boats three floors. We went up to the top floor and just watched the lights and the river. I posted this as 5 stars but it keeps defaulting to 4, not sure why! We had a great time! A perfect way to spend an evening. We took the riverboat dinner cruise. There was plenty of options to spend your time on the deck of the boat in the shade or sun. The food was great, just simple catered food: beef and chicken, salad, green beans, rolls, baked potato... It was nice that the first ten minutes included a little history of the local area and the last 30 min you are riding into the sunset, perfect photo op! Not overly priced considering the meal and the experience. Everyone should do it once, at least! Stay close to the boat after you disembark; music will play through the whistles on the top of the boat. It is a beautiful experience and you won't want to miss it! The summer was a beautiful time to go to see amazing shades of green in the trees that line the river, but we would now like to do it again in the Fall to see all the beautiful Fall colors. read more

We were lucky enough to enjoy a dinner cruise with our family while we were visiting in August. It was a fun time all around and we would definitely recommend it. The cruise itself was beautiful and exciting. And while you cant go into it expecting fine dining, the food was good and filling. They dont mess around with those drinks either! It is April 21 and I had reserved a cruise for the 26th. They have cancelled all cruises until May 3 or 5, not because of river conditions but because they failed to have the boat properly inspected by the Coast Guard. I will be in town. not able to take the cruise we came for and the money for that cruise will still be waiting to be refunded to my account, I have to question the reliability of this company read more

We were very disappointed that there was not any historical commentary about where we were traveling on the river. We took the dinner cruise. Cruise would have been so much better with that. It did have a solo musician with a guitar. The food was ok. The staff friendly. Sunset was pretty. Would suggest that their online description is explicit re this is not a historical cruise as it seems other people were as disappointed as I was. read more

My wife and I visited the Hannibal riverfront on a beautiful fall Saturday, afternoon. While walking downtown, we decided to take a boat ride at the last minute. There were about 45 people on our 1-hour cruise. We were able to move around on the boat to get the best view. We decided to sit on the top deck enjoying the sun and the scenery. The announcer was entertaining while telling the history and historic sites as we traveled up and down the river. Growing up in St. Louis, this reminded me as a kid riding up and down the Mississippi on the Admiral, Tom Sawyer, and Becky Thatcher. It was a fun time and I would do it again. read more

The cruise itself was very nice. Dinner was very bland, roast beef tasted like it was boiled, very little flavor. Potato was good, salad was ok, but only two choices of dressings. Pasta salad was terrible and what they called a chicken breast was frozen chicken from Walmart and served cold. They had a saxophone player for entertainment, no thanks, immediately after dinner we went to the deck outside so we didn't have to listen to 1940's music. Beautiful evening out on the deck though. The dinner was a good down home style, with good options. They had good music and a cash bar with good options as well. The cruise down the river was very relaxing. Did the dinner cruise while visiting in Hannibal. For about $40 a person, we had music entertainment, pretty good view, and a GREAT view of the river for 2 hours. The food was pretty good. Nothing to write home about: chicken, roast beef, green beans, pasta salad, salad, bread, brownie. The entertainment consisted of a piano and guitar player. Not bad. The best part of the tour was the view of the river, for sure. Going to the open top part of the boat was amazing and very peaceful. The service was friendly, but $82 for two people was a little pricey, in my opinion. read more

I was excited to take my first riverboat cruise in honor of my significant other's grandmother becoming an octogenarian. We bought tickets for 30 ppl well in advance of the show date. When we arrived to board the boat an hour early, we were greeted with a line of over 100 people. We learned while waiting in the cold for over an hour the boat released an additional 60 tickets the day of the cruise. Instead of honoring the tickets sold prior to show date, all tickets were first come first served basis as far as seating. Luckily, the 80+ couple, one of whom uses a walker, was able to get a table on the ground level. The rest of us luckily got a couple of tables on the upper deck. We had already eaten dinner, but had we not, we would have been served pulled pork by the employee who just smoked a cigarette and drank a Bud light before going back to serving without visiting a sink to wash her hands. The boat was dingy and dusty. Boarding and un-boarding was a miserably long process as you are funneled through the gift shop both ways. We were forced to have our photo taken on the way in for "security reasons," even though some in our group expressed dissatisfaction with having their photo taken. Then offered to purchase our unwanted photo for $10 on the way out. I will not be signing up for a second excursion on the Mississippi aboard mark twain riverboat anytime soon. read more

This was one of the best tourist experiences I have ever had. Everyone who works in the office/shop and on the boat was so incredibly kind to me. They all seem to be genuinely sweet and considerate people. The tour was delightful, with informative commentary by the captain and unique views of the town and the famous Jackson's Island that you couldn't get anywhere else. If you only do one thing in Hannibal, make it this! If you aren't sure if you should go to Hannibal, you SHOULD go, and you should go on this cruise! read more

There are three different levels that you can sit on. I would recommend the top deck if it is not too hot/cold or raining. I thought the price was reasonable for the length of the cruise. The Mark Twain was a smooth and comfortable ride...the scenery was great, but the best part was Captain Steve and his stories. Dont miss the one about Lovers Leap and the two starcrossed lovers. The price was very reasonable...much less than I expected, and they take a picture of you before you get on the boat (as does many attractions and exhibits around the country). You can purchase them after the ride. If you want to slow down and relax for a while...take the river boat ride. Youll learn something and enjoy yourself too. read more
