My wife and I had different moments. For me it was pictures 5 and 6, when I saw how the decorative pieces in the dining room connected to those in the living room, and I saw how those two grand spaces would be tied together into the place where our family would gather each Thanksgiving and every cozy snowy Sunday afternoon in between. For my wife, it was picture 4, and the subtle design choices that made the office, a place she would work, feel like home. Intellectually we understood that a listing is not a home. We knew that paint color could be changed and furniture is not a fixture, but after months of house hunting there were many times when we went back and forth between the floor plan and the pictures of empty rooms trying to make sense of the space. There was more than one house that had the right square footage and bathrooms, in the right location, that we never visited because the mismatched pictures didn't connect with us in the way we "knew" our home would. It was a little irrational, certainly, but purchasing a home is about what feels right, not just what is right. We are deeply appreciative of Mark's work, for enrapturing us, and pulling us in, and making sure that we felt an instantaneous connection with the home we so deeply love. In fact, we loved the staging work of the Mark Luther Design team so much, we purchased more than half of the pieces. We were introduced to Mark Luther through a good friend. Mark was hired to helped us navigate through the complete redesign of our family room. Our goal was to complete the project prior to Xmas. I think Mark is good with color and furniture placement. We hired him to stage our home this fall. He mostly worked with the furniture that I had and brought in 2 pictures, 2 lamps, a bench, 1 pair of hanging drapes, 1 glass kitchen table and 4 side chairs -these looked like they were left over from the 1970's, 3 side tables and some candlesticks, a vase, a pot and pillows for 3 beds an airbed and 1 complete set of bedding and pillows for one bed. All of the items looked like they came from Bed Bath and Beyond or Homegoods. Nothing special, but certainly nothing that looked like it came out of the Boston Design Center. I was disappointed in the quality of the items. I was expecting more. Especially, since our house was priced over the $1,200,000 price range. Mark gave me a verbal price of $2500 and told me that I would have to pay extra for the bedding as those items could not be used again. So when I got the invoice of a little over $3000 I assumed that the extra $500 was for the bedding. I should also say that Mark was recommended by my real estate agent, so there was a fair amount of trust that I had in working with him because of this recommendation. This trust was misplaced. I have learned my lesson. Mark picked up his stuff yesterday. He took everything back except 2 pillows. He had originally told me that I had to buy the bedding as it would not be sanitary to reuse. But yesterday, he changed his story and said that he could reuse the items, because no one used my bedrooms. Well I used my bedroom. And my adults kids do come back sometimes. One bedroom was truly not used and that was the air mattress set up on boxes. So I paid an extra $500 for items that he ended up taking back. I feel like he is not upfront and transparent in his billing. He told me that he would go back to his original paperwork and get back to me as to what I paid for. Well he did call me back today. But he called to ask for the boxes he left here. I also should mention that I had to clean after Mark had staged my house. He moved couches and tables and did not clean after moving them. He took a table that had been in my basement for many years and staged it with a lamp and books and didn't even dust it off. When I mentioned these things to him, he told me that all of his clients have their cleaning people clean up after they leave. Well I am the cleaning crew in my house. So this was insulting and not the response I was expecting! If you want to use Mark, pick his brain for $150 for ideas and do the rest yourself. I would not recommend him as a staging company. read more

Mark & his team decorated our WInchester office for the holidays. 2 conference rooms the front lobby and our windows. he went to Jacobsons floral and picked out beautiful sprays of snow and clear glass balls for our tree. The conference room tree was blue white and silver. His choice of trees were perfect scale for our space and simple and elegant. He filled our windows with garlands and colored ornaments that were festive yet not overdone. He works well with clients and is happy to take their input. read more

My partner and I used MLD for staging a condo we put on the market and for designing a new home. We were blown away by Mark's design work on both. He has a great sense of design and works with what you have in your house, then supplements with some of his own furnishings, artwork and decorative pieces. I am a realtor and I hired Mark to stage a property that I was trying to sell in Lexington that was vacant. The property was on the market for 2 months with NO offers. From the beginning I wanted my seller (and advised them) to have the property staged. Once Mark staged the property, we had two offers and it sold within a week!
