Determined to keep some length, i decided to comb them out with a technique called loc take down. Now desperate to look half decent, I found Mia Bella's after lots of research. What I wanted was a professional salon staff with patience, warmth and knowledge about natural hair. I'd read reviews of some salon staffers that don't even acknowledge you walked in the room and never bother to get to know you or what you need. At Mia's, I was greeted at the door, offered snacks, asked my name and what brought me there. They also asked about things they offered which I may want to consider. these questions came from the young lady accessing my hair and prepping it for wash. She was getting my story as if to create a client profile for when i started to work with the stylist (and owner). Pretty cool. I actually felt like a celebrity with all the attention and focus on what works for me. Loved my first style post locs!!

I also typically color my hair at home once a month, but a friend recommended Madison Reed so I decided to try them. They took me as a "walk in" but even without an appointment, the staff took a lot of time to help me choose the right hair color and I chose a combination of two colors. The whole process was also very easy. They mixed my color, set me up and 35 minutes later, washed the color out while providing a nice head massage! I'm very pleased with the results.

Something that most hair salons were not able to 100% achieve in the past. As I walked into the salon I was confused. There was no one to greet you and instead was a large screen. A stylist came and offered me a seat. She took a picture of my hair, asked me a couple questions and then she took me over to the large screen and showed me the color she was going to achieve. She proceeded to mix the ingredients according to the apps direction. She applied the color, told me how many minutes I had to stay with the solution and never came back. lol When the time was up, another person came and asked me to walk to the sink station so she can wash my hair. The shampoos smelled great. Then she showed me the self service for the blowouts. My initial stylist never came to check up on me, or even see if the color matched the initial consultation and the salon was definitely not busy. There was no one to check you out either. I used the iPad by myself and paid for the service. I am not sure if I would trust this place for highlights, but for an easy overall color application and grey coverage it's not a bad idea. I don't think I would pay full price for this service however. I would only go back with a discount.

Blondes, Beware -- Master Colorist? More Like Master Mess…read more Let's normalize being honest when asked, "Do you know how to do blonde hair?" I've been coming to this salon on and off for years -- not for the owner, but for the few stylists who actually know what they're doing when it comes to blondes. I made the mistake of trusting the so-called "master colorist" after not touching my hair for an entire year. Huge regret. For $280, I expected professional results -- not brassy, uneven, yellow-toned hair that clearly shows in every filtered photo posted. Filters won't hide the lack of skill. If you're a stylist and a client sits in your chair asking for a service outside your level -- just say so. There's no shame in turning down work that's not in your wheelhouse. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. My advice? If you're blonde and care about your hair, go elsewhere.
