Looking for something in this ex centered neighborhood of Lisboa, we were excited to find that well rated seafood Portuguese restaurant. Even though the prices are quite high for being so far away from the center, we enjoyed our time.
The service is great, although you need to know a bit of Portuguese to have them understand you.
The home made Vino Verde is really good and sold for 6€ a bottle (great price for Lisboa!!). The absolute best thing I had was the home made marinated olives... just mind blowing!!! I was really excited with the rest of our order!... but have been a bit disappointed. Hence the (I am so sorry for it) 3 stars.
It might be a cultural thing though...
Coming from Canada, I am used to perfectly under-cooked sea food I would call it perfectly cooked, but I learnt in my travels that many cultures can't stand "soft in the center" fish and meat. Thank God probably because we have amazingly fresh products safe to cook right!! ;)
The shrimps were overcooked and soaked with garlic butter. Yeah, garlic butter is great. But a shrimp gave its life! I'd like to actually taste it!! To be fair, my Russian and Mexican friends absolutely loved them.
The bachlau was fried, as a whole piece, then soaked (I mean, it was swimming) in a bottle of olive oil. Great olive oil though!
Speaking of the olive oil... it's brought to the table at the same time as the bread, along with white vinegar. As a dip, it is heaven!!!
To tell the truth, the place just lost one complete star on desert... They decided (what a shame!) to serve commercial deserts... giving you a commercial menu consisting of ice-cream declinations that could be displayed on a bus add during summer. Such a shame for an authentic Portuguese restaurant! read more
