I had a very fantastic time here. I will say that I made my reservation super early at 7 PM and I was the only one in the restaurant. I didn't realize the Portuguese eat a little bit later at night. It felt like I was in my own private restaurant so that was super funny to think about. Otherwise, though it was such a vibe, it has such a cute interior with paintings on the wall a Christmas tree on the side and a more modern wooden finish. Bathroom is also located on the first floor and it's very clean. Service was fantastic. My waiter, Nabil, was so friendly. He chatted with me and told me a little bit about Portugal. English was not a problem for him and I had no trouble as an English tourist. Service was fast, and he checked in with me every couple minutes. I had gone here as a recommendation from a coworker, and it was fantastic. The duck confit was cooked so tender and served with rice and spinach. The rice tasted cheesy and rich and it was also perfectly balanced with the meal. I highly recommend that as a dish! Otherwise, though, I ordered the green wine and it was pretty good. In Lisbon, I was told to try the green wine because it's from a specific region. It tastes kinda like a Chardonnay. read more

Everything was wonderful at this little neighborhood restaurant. We came here on the suggestion of our hotel and were not disappointed. Service was very personal. Food was just right delicious. And the ambience was very local. This is an incredible small gem. Only about 10 tables so it has a great comfortable atmosphere and amazing food. The service is fantastic and the prices are reasonable for sure. I highly recommend this place. Ignore any of the poor reviews from ignorant Americans that think everything should be as they are used to in Nee York or wherever. I'm American and have traveled all over Europe for 40 years. You need to both respect and enjoy their culture. If you can't, stay home. The ambiance of this restaurant was very intimate and it felt nice. The server was also friendly and as we ate dinner pretty early, it was pretty quiet. The dishes that I tried were the octopus dish and then a daily special- Moroccan chicken tagine. The octopus was not bad but the Moroccan chicken tagging was bland and lacked flavor. It was not great but the reason that I give such a low rating is because of health concerns and kitchen safety. I was seated near a little hole in the wall where the kitchen dishes were coming in and as such, we could hear the chef in the kitchen who was coughing nonstop. It was anxiety provoking and unnerving knowing that the person handling my food was sick. Both were presented nicely and were very delicious. My husband ordered the veal loin with fettuccine. I ordered the seared tuna steak with sweet potatoes and cabbage. My husband's meal came with very sweet cooked pears. He does not particularly enjoy sweet foods, so I ate them. They pared nicely with the sweet potatoes. Ordered the shrimp starter and it was insanely over cooked. Octopus entree took over an hour despite apologies and repeated claims of "it's being made now" and the restaurant only being 3/4 full. When I finally asked if I could cancel the order it miraculously was done. Unfortunately, it was cooked poorly.Parts of the octopus were crunchy and the potatoes were so over cooked it was a bizarre cross between mashed and not mashed potatoes and drowning in oil. Not sure if I just went on a really off day, but it was a terrible first meal in Portugal. I would not recommend. I gave this restaurant 1 star for the delicious onion tart and salad. That is where it ends. We ordered 2 different Cod entrees. I am not sure which one was worse than the other. Both dishes had a horrible fish odor, indicating the fish was not fresh and had an awful fishy taste, again indicating it wasn't fresh. The menu did not say, "salted Cod". Salted would be an understatement. The Cod tasted as if the Ocean water was still on it. Maybe that is where the smell and taste actually came from. We told our waitress the problem, she did ask if there was another dish we would like, but at that point, the after taste in our mouths was so horrendous the thought of eating anything else was not appetizing. When we asked for the bill, they didn't even offer us any compensation for the uneaten meal. We paid in full as to not make a scene or an issue, but we certainly won't go back again and informed our hotel, (they made the recommendation), about our experience. read more

Solid food in a cute restaurant/specialty store. Service was mostly friendly, once you get passed being chastised by the lady manning the bar for being a bit late for our reservation. For our starters, we got the paté, which came with a tuna salad and a seafood salad, and some bread to pair them with. We also shared some grilled shrimp in a spicy sauce (delicious!) and their creamy seafood soup. The soup was my favorite of the two, and had a butternut squash (or pumpkin?) base with lots of dashi-like seafood flavor. For our entrees, I ordered the duck confit while my fiancé ordered the cod lasagna with seafood sauce. To our amusement, the lasagna's "seafood sauce" was the exact same thing as the soup. The pasta bit was also kind of mushy and the cod still had bones (which is fine, but not so much in a layered pasta?) so I wasn't a huge fan of the dish. Despite having gone to two Michelin star restaurants during our time in Portugal, the meal my partner & I enjoyed at Quermesse is the one we can't stop talking about. Came here for dinner after seeing the great reviews - there was a slight wait and kind of a rude host who was the only reason for the lack of the extra star. We shared the seafood spaghetti and it was incredible - one of the best things we had on our trip!! A whole lobster as well as prawns and delicious squid ink spaghetti with amazing sauce! This charming restaurant was the perfect introduction to Lisbon after we arrived. They serve traditional Portuguese food with minimal ingredients that elevate the taste of each. We found this place last night in the rain and what a treat! The ambiance was very welcoming and cozy. We started off with 2 Super Bock beers- a great local brew. While waiting for our food we treated ourselves to the bread (Uncle Gil's?) delicious with the butter w/ dried tomatoes. For entrees, my hubby had the shrimp and couscous- I had the chicken with olives and dates and crispy polenta. It was all so delicious!! The couscous was the best I've ever had- a great blend of flavors (apricot, tomato, green pepper, raisins, cilantro...) Worth a visit just to try it! The chicken was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Quick take-away: Friendly staff! The food was yummy and relatively cheap. My favorite dish that my friend and I shared was the grilled octopus, which was grilled with a nice serving of garlic slices. Who doesn't like garlic? The octopus had a nice chewy texture -- just the slightest bit so that you wouldn't have to spend more than 20 seconds chewing a small piece. The risotto was decent while it was hot/warm. After a while, it started to become a pile of mush. There was mint added to the risotto, which threw me off. It didn't pair well. It made me think that it was added accidentally. That was one of the reasons why I couldn't finish the dish. We also ordered some kind of shrimp stew (I forgot the name of it, but at least I have a picture!) it was spicy and guess what... there was mint! The mint actually worked well with the spicy stew. This place is a very unpretentious restaurant and it's small but don't be afraid to come in because the food was divine! The pork cheeks with lemon risotto are a must! The pork cheeks are soaked in a delicious and flavorful sauce that was not overpowering and the meat falls apart easily. The lemon rissotto was also very creamy and a great side to balance out the meat. We also tried octopus and this was great! Would recommend both these dishes. Lastly, for drinks, I tried a lemon-thyme drink and it was refreshing on a hot day. Place is small and fills up very quickly around lunch time. This little gem is a must go to if you are in Lisbon! We ordered the risotto and the bacalao. I couldn't decide which one was better. Risotto is tricky for me, I like it al dente and not mushy. This place is amazing! I had dinner here alone on my last night in portugal. They were very friendly. I ordered the house wine, and the shrimps in garlic. They offered to bring m bread. I said yes of course. The waiters kept coming by asking me if the food was good, if I needed any thing else. I LOVED IT! they actually cared and the restaurant was packed. i then ordered the chicken with cheese and raisin rice. AMAZING. The sauce was so creamy. SAME goes for the shrimp. i wish i would have found this gem earlier in my trip. I ordered the cheese cake as the desert. It was ok. Not the best but would order again. In total spent about 30 euros.
