Yogurt and mint drink. Fresh bread and roasted red pepper and yogurt dipping sauces

Stopped by today for lunch and it was a great choice. The restaurant was busy so I had a feeling it was good and I was correct. I ordered a yogurt mint drink, some bread and dips and Calamari over couscous with yogurt sauce. Everything was great, authentic and fresh. I wish I could go try the entire menu but I'm only visiting so it may be a while for me, but if your reading this hurry and order for me.

Very good restaurant. The koofteh is to die for. If you want to sit outside make sure to make a reservation. Worth the while

Our first attempt was Khayyam, and we were thoroughly disappointed. What kind of Persian Restaurant does not serve koubiddeh? Seriously? There was a long list of grievances, but we forgot all about them when we arrived at 1001 Nights. The smell, absent on our last attempt, was the first sign that we were in the right place. My daughter and I settled into a great meal where the koubiddeh and rice were well up to our standards. Nothing was wasted and the staff was great. If you are looking for a great Persian meal in Lisbon, don't be distracted by the name of a great Persian poet. Go to 1001 Nights and be satisfied....

We ordered a large meal consisting of 3 different kebabs, jasmine rice and lightly charred tomatoes Thr chick, lamb and ground lamb/veal were juicy and tender. The rice was light and fluffy and the tomatoes were perfectly charred on the skin and cooked through but not mushy. The portions were enough for two to share with enough to take home for my lunch tomorrow.

Upon…read morearrival, the hostess asks if you have a reservation - if you do you get to sit in the part of the restaurant that has more life to it; if not you sit in the front room which was much quieter and only had one other table of of 2 people. Both are nice spaces but being a solo traveler it was a bit depressing having to sit alone in a dimly lit empty dining room looking out a window while others were dining in the lively space with an open kitchen. I understand that's how it is when being a table of one but moral is to make a reservation if you can b/c that would have been a better dining experience. The menu offers so many choices and is very vegetarian friendly. The server was helpful and provided recommendations. One thing I thought was tricky was how he brought bread to the table and asked "would you like some fresh bread and dips?" before putting it down. Since I had read reviews I knew to asd "doesn't that cost extra?" to which he replied yes so I opted to skip it. Especially because I was alone and most def couldn't have eaten all that food. The falafel hummus bowl was excellent. The hummus was perfectly prepared and beautifully creamy. It was served with warm pita that you could taste was housemade. That was some of the best pita I ever tasted. I also chose a watermelon basil mocktail which was very tasty. I wish I had room for dessert but was stuffed by the time I walked back to my accommodation.

THIS WAS MY FAVORITE PLACE FOR DINNER IN LISBON…read more============================================ I booked a reservation for our party of five for dinner at Sumaya on Monday, July 8, 2024 and I have to say I am a huge fan. If I ever visit Lisbon again I would definitely book a reservation there. Even my husband's cousin who has been a resident of Cascais for decades loved it and said she would go there again which is high praise. Not too shabby of a find from an L.A. East Yelper. We started off with a pitcher of their passion fruit sangria which was amazing. There was no wine in this sangria. It had vodka, rum, passion fruit and lots of other things. I am kicking myself for not ordering another pitcher of that. Definitely order that. We ordered the Sumay Grill to share which I also recommend. It has the best thinly sliced shawarma, lahme, kafta and shishtaouk. My daughter-in-law ordered some more chicken shishtaouk. Their garlic sauce was amazing. It reminded me of Zankou Chicken in L.A.. Their taboule was the best I have ever had in my life and I loved their baba ghanouj too. This was most likely my favorite meal of the nine days we were in Portugal.
