A few levels up from the Mediterranean food I get at home, which is great. I didn't intend to order fries, but the server knew I was American so he "corrected" my order, and they're the best fries I've had in memory.

Phenomenal food. We tried everything hummus, falafel, and kebabs. Family run business and a nice corner location.

THIS WAS MY FAVORITE PLACE FOR DINNER IN LISBON…read more============================================ I booked a reservation for our party of five for dinner at Sumaya on Monday, July 8, 2024 and I have to say I am a huge fan. If I ever visit Lisbon again I would definitely book a reservation there. Even my husband's cousin who has been a resident of Cascais for decades loved it and said she would go there again which is high praise. Not too shabby of a find from an L.A. East Yelper. We started off with a pitcher of their passion fruit sangria which was amazing. There was no wine in this sangria. It had vodka, rum, passion fruit and lots of other things. I am kicking myself for not ordering another pitcher of that. Definitely order that. We ordered the Sumay Grill to share which I also recommend. It has the best thinly sliced shawarma, lahme, kafta and shishtaouk. My daughter-in-law ordered some more chicken shishtaouk. Their garlic sauce was amazing. It reminded me of Zankou Chicken in L.A.. Their taboule was the best I have ever had in my life and I loved their baba ghanouj too. This was most likely my favorite meal of the nine days we were in Portugal.

I ordered the spinach fatayar and fried kubbeh and both came out very hot and flavorful. The beef in the sandwich was tender and well seasoned.

The only sad part of my review is that we only ate here once. We found this place on our last night…read morein Lisbon, as it was right around the corner of our Airbnb. What a hidden gem! We have eaten middle eastern style food before but weren't specifically familiar with Syrian food. The host was very accommodating and made some fantastic recommendations for small bites. The lamb dish was great, the hummus was delicious, but the real star was the falafel that we had. I've never quite had anything like it, even having had falafel several times. It was the perfect balance of moist on the inside and well-done light crust on the outside. I'd come back here just for that! don't forget the Syrian wine & Arak , red beer amazing the use IPAD as menu super Hi-tech :-) If you find yourself in the area you'd be well served to visit. This is exactly the sort of place I'd be frequenting often if we lived in Lisbon.

They treated me like I was inconveniencing them - didn't greet me at the door, I don't think they even said anything to me. Oh, and I was the only patron at that time, so there's no excuse. And when a second solo patron came in they literally sat him directly behind me so that the back of his chair was literally inches from the back of mine! Keep in mind, the whole restaurant was empty! I had to signal to the hostess when I wanted water, and again when I wanted to order, since no server had come to check on me. The food was definitely made with love, I just wish they could get their staff to care half as much.

Food was just right delicious. And the ambience was very local. In addition to us and another couple, there were three ladies that were enjoying their dinners alone, making it feel like a very safe space for neighborhood folks to enjoy a dinner out. Highly recommend for a nice night out.

I didn't realize the Portuguese eat a little bit later at night. It felt like I was in my own private restaurant so that was super funny to think about. Otherwise, though it was such a vibe, it has such a cute interior with paintings on the wall a Christmas tree on the side and a more modern wooden finish. Bathroom is also located on the first floor and it's very clean. Service was fantastic. My waiter, Nabil, was so friendly. He chatted with me and told me a little bit about Portugal. English was not a problem for him and I had no trouble as an English tourist. Service was fast, and he checked in with me every couple minutes. I had gone here as a recommendation from a coworker, and it was fantastic. The duck confit was cooked so tender and served with rice and spinach. The rice tasted cheesy and rich and it was also perfectly balanced with the meal. I highly recommend that as a dish! Otherwise, though, I ordered the green wine and it was pretty good. In Lisbon, I was told to try the green wine because it's from a specific region. It tastes kinda like a Chardonnay.
