This place is very cute inside but no matter how great the food is, if the menu doesn't bring a smile, I just can't bring myself to give five stars. They have more dranks listed then food lol. It would typically be my kinda place but it's a lil pricey. The carbonara is $28 and it's okay, it was worth the price. I also dislike when my pasta arrives a lil more on the warm side, rather than pipping hot! That's why I love ramen and hot pot places bc the noodles are not in need of being heated up. For the price of the food, there should be more options, I think it was a total of around 10 things to eat on the menu. Here you are also paying for the location, it's very beautiful, in walking distance of the beach and La Jolla coves. My favorite thing was the focaccia. I could eat that just for dinner and liked that more than the pasta. The pasta had way too much sauce. It's a cute place for a date night if you're not with a picky eater. had a small anniversary getaway to SD and decided upon this place since it was on several "eater sd" lists. our anniversary was acknowledged by the hostess but that was it - very disappointing that they couldn't commemorate a special occasion. we were seated on the extended patio. unfortunately, as the sun was setting, it made waiting for our food very uncomfortable as i was facing the sun. i was visibly uncomfortable and the waitstaff even made eye contact several times. i finally switched seats with my husband, but that was something that easily could have been avoided if the hostess or staff had suggested to give us a different table from the beginning or even moved the 3-4 umbrellas they had. initially we weren't going to get the focaccia, but our server recommended it as it was what they were known for. it was fantastic, including the dipping sauce it came with. our server recommended it as it was what they were known for. little gem was delicious and well-dressed but sourdough croutons were way too hard. both the corn ravioli and the vongole needed salt, both in the sauce and pasta itself. we're not heavy on seasoning, so the lack of salt was very apparent. super disappointing and undermined the fact that the pastas were handmade. we were underwhelmed by our experience and kinda wished we went somewhere else. read more

My bartenders were great! Deja really stuck out to me. Incredibly friendly, easy to talk to, and knows her STUFF when it comes to drinks, spirits, and food! I had a ton of questions and she had all the answers ready for me. She really made my experience. Fun and sweet yet still very professional. I appreciated her makeup, standing out from her coworkers and for good reason, she's one in million. Thoroughly enjoyed my experience because of her and I'm for sure coming back tomorrow just to see her. What an amazing experience. Ten of us had a wonderful birthday dinner at Marisi's tonight. For a large party, there are set offerings, and ours was a 5 course meal, including dessert. The food was all delicious, and there was plenty! My favorite was the roasted beet salad. Their Caesar salad with focaccia croutons and little gem lettuce was delicious. The ambiance and location are beautiful. We we were seated in the lemon room and I loved the wallpaper. You definitely felt transported to a different place/time. Service was very attentive and friendly. Now for the food, for the price, it was definitely a little disappointing. We started with the carpaccio and while it was super tender and delicious, the horseradish overpowered the dish a little bit. I don't see it on the menu, so maybe it was a special, but we also had the spicy squid and potatoes. This was pretty spicy and I can handle my spice, but I'm surprised the server didn't mention that. Other people may have had a really hard time with this dish. But it was very tasty and tender. For our mains, I had the carbonara and had to ask for salt, which I would rarely do. It was really, really, really bland. It was nice and creamy, but even the pork was bland, which was odd. Once I added the salt it was much better, but I still would not order that again. I should have went with the short rib dish that the table next to us had. My hubby had a king crab ravioli special and it was really good, but almost $60 for a few bites of crab and some pasta seemed excessive. We also had the mushrooms with brown butter, kale and salsa verde and those were delicious. Super tender and meaty at the same time. We ended the meal with the sicilian date cake and this was really good as well. The figs added some tartness and the cake was moist. Overall, this was a great special occasion place, but if i returned, I'd definitely stick with the "standard" pastas and some drinks, which were also all really good. read more

I wasn't 100% sure on what to expect from this restaurant but I can tell you my boyfriend and I were not disappointed. We came here for an anniversary brunch and from the minute we walked in to the minute we left our experience and expectations were exceeded. Everything was top-tier, our server Nick was amazing and recommend things to try and what his favorite dishes were. We ended up choosing a few of the options he recommended us which were the cinnamon roll & dip sandwich but OMG the focaccia is one of the most delicious divine dishes I have ever had. His service was outstanding & I can not say enough good things about how he made our experience that much more memorable. I was so excited to have Easter Lunch at this Beautiful Restaurant! I have been dying to try Marisi! It did not disappoint. The Atmosphere is so beautiful with its colorful tile, beautiful wallpapered walls and lighting. Even the bathrooms are pretty! Our sever Nick was so charming and attentive. I went on a date yesterday at Marisi which is a restaurant I visit frequently. I booked our reservation on OpenTable and when we arrived, they stated that I booked on the roadside patio. I scanned the restaurant and noticed that they had a few two tops open, but they insisted that we can only sit on the there or forfeit our reservation. My date and I were hot, so I asked the server if we would be able to move and the hostess rolled her eyes. Once we went inside our experience changed. We started by ordering a French bottle of Sauvignon Blanc which we were so happy with. We started off with the boquerones and pesce marinato. The boquerones were so different compared to something I've eaten before. It was a flower filled with cheese and lemon-garlic deep fried which is something that sounds freaky, but ended out being so savory. We ate the whole flower and stem. Recommend! The Pesce Marinato was tuna belly mixed with a habanero broth and onion. I am one that loves tuna and spice, so this dish hit. My date isn't a big tuna lover, but she was really surprised with it. For entrees we ordered the bolognese, ravioli, and focaccia. The bolognese was really tasty and savory, but it wasn't the best bolognese I've ever had. The freshness of the pasta they make homemade is what makes the dish savory. My date had the squash ravioli which she said was delightful. The sauce that is was smothered in was savory as she said. The focaccia was the absolute highlight of our night. It was served with a Calabrian chili sauce and balsamic brown butter. When you mix the two of them together, it was so bomb. We consumed the whole thing and laughed as we finished it. The ambiance of this restaurant is beautiful and perfect for date night. I would recommend this spot to anyone. The only reason I knocked my score is because how we were treated by the hostesses at the beginning of our experience. I'm honestly never one to complain, but we shouldn't have been treated in that manner. My rating is a 8.5/10. read more

This place caught my eye many months ago when I passed by it as I was exiting Puesto. I was entranced by the beautiful aesthetics - the tiled floors, the greenery draping the front patio, and bar with a beautiful chandelier showcased in the middle. So imagine my delight when my group of friends decided to partake in this beautiful establishment. We were seated in the lemon room, which is a small room in the back. The dining room had gorgeous wallpaper with, of course, lemons and yellow lighting that resembled more like a pineapple rather than stacked lemon slices. It was so cute! Cocktail: Cantaloupe margarita. It's definitely boozy forward. A good indicator was the large cube of ice sitting in the middle of the glass. I sipped mine. Apps: Focaccia - Crusty, buttery, and airy. I loved the basil dip it came with. Chopped Salad - This had thinly sliced cabbage and had a tartness to it despite the fruity cheese sprinkled on top. It was okay for me. Main: Line caught seabass - skin was crisp, and the fish was soft and flaky. I liked the sides, which complimented the fish well. Dessert: Meyer Lemon - this was just okay. Coffee and Cream - This was delicious. I liked the Panna cotta with the coffee streusel, Bavarian cream, and ganache. Our waitress Sara was very attentive! However, multiple times, we had to direct the servers to other tables since they mistakenly kept on coming to us with other people's orders. Also, it took forever to get our food! One of my friends said, "Don't come here starving." We were there close to three hours! They also have a surcharge of 4%, and they also do not provide a free birthday dessert. They give you a candle. This experience had its highs and lows. It's definitely a busy restaurant on a Wednesday night. This is more of a 3.5 star experience for me. read more

Made reservations for opening time and got seated outside which my husband and I enjoyed very much; very picturesque and floral. The wait staff were very friendly and our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu, giving recommendations for each section as well as wine pairings. What we ate: - Antipasti: Scallops and Blossoms - Primi: Cappelletti - Secondi: White Sea Bass - Dessert: Meyer Lemon and Milk Chocolate Everything tasted wonderful. All of the savory dishes were delicious and flavorful, and the pasta is handmade! The desserts were rich and decadent. We appreciated the plating for each dish, very elegant yet causal. The dishes are on the smaller side and can be pricey for some, so this may not be the place for those who are budget conscious. However, I would still recommend anyone to try this place! We opted to celebrate a birthday here based on glowing reviews, though our dining experience left us uncertain. **Ambiance:** We enjoyed the decor both indoors and outdoors. Our outdoor seating was very comfortable. **Food:** The focaccia bread with artichoke dip was delicious. However, my short rib pasta was a bit too acidic for my taste, and others in our group felt similarly about their pasta dishes--not bad, but not exceptional either. **Service:** I'm straightforward and try to see things from all perspectives. Our host, Lucas (per our receipt), seemed off with us from the start. Our reservation for our party of 11 was initially split into two tables, but after requesting to sit together, they accommodated us. From that point on, Lucas's demeanor changed noticeably. He appeared curt with us, whereas he was friendly and engaging with other tables. Any questions were met with eye rolls or sighs. He didn't check on our food or offer additional drinks, although he did refill our water. The difference in treatment seemed related to the reservation mix-up, but regardless, we didn't feel welcomed. We had arranged in advance to bring a cake, understanding there would be a dessert fee. However, when it came time for cake and the birthday celebration, some hosts displayed visible impatience, although they did cut the cake for us unexpectedly. As we left Marisi, there was no acknowledgment or thank you from the staff. I was conflicted about whether to approach management. Ultimately, I chose not to because we were a large group celebrating, and I didn't want to spoil the occasion. In hindsight, I wonder if I should have spoken up, as our host's demeanor seemed to dampen the mood. If you are coming here I highly recommend a reservation or come early as after 6 it is packed. This place is beautiful. Indoor outdoor La Jolla at its best. I sat at the bar and had a couple drinks and some wine and all was wonderful. The faccacio bread to die for. I had the gnochetti which was divine. I also had a lemon type dessert but would have preferred the chocolate or the other option it was good just to tart for me. Here's the deal. I sat at the bar. The bartenders Edwin and the other gentleman were fantastic. The food and service delicious. Just be aware for the portions and stuff it is just a bit pricey. Immediately as you walk up, you see an absolutely beautiful covered patio with high ceilings, lots of greenery, and beautiful lighting. Perfect date night set up. The interior is also gorgeous, with the same high ceilings and beautiful tables and tiled floors. They did a spectacular job with the design. The staff was wonderful--everyone was very friendly and helpful. Onto the drinks. Standard (for high end) priced cocktails and wine--very tasty and some of the more unique offerings we've seen at an Italian spot. The food was definitely high quality. Delicately fine pasta, seasonal dishes, not overly salted or sauced. Their focaccia is one of the lighter ones we've had in a long time, and the burrata salad was also very tasty for a starter. We split three pastas for dinner and it was PLENTY. Not over the top portions but you won't leave hungry IMO. The seasonal agnolotti and short rib gnoccehti were our favorites. I know folks have been saying this is the best Italian in SD, but that's quite a stretch. It was very good, but not the best. For the prices, I was expecting it to be the best. Overall, this is a lovely date spot, but pretty overpriced. Top a $34 pasta dish with a 4% surcharge that you as the customer have to ask if you want it removed feels steep, and candidly, from an experience standpoint, if you're going to charge a 4% surcharge, I'd prefer it just be put into the cost of the dish rather than putting me in an uncomfortable position of asking it to be removed. TLDR; beautifully decorated, good food, and as a heads up, it's easily a $250+ date night. read more

We met friends for a 6:00 reso and didn't leave the restaurant until 8:30. That is without drinks, just an extremely long wait between appetizers and our main meals. It took forever to get our appetizers (we ordered 4 and they all arrived separately and after much waiting). Afterward, we waited almost 45 minutes for our main dishes. The server wasn't really apologetic or empathetic. While the food was delicious, it didn't make up for the poor service and delays. I have to add that I am an insulin-dependent diabetic so waiting 45 between courses can be challenging, not to mention dangerous. I came here especially to try their fresh made pasta. I ordered the Tagliatelle with the king crab that had breadcrumbs on it. My husband got the short rib gnocchi dish. While other tables that arrived after us were getting their food, we sat there waiting--for an entire hour. When we finally asked what was going on, the waiter told us our order had been "shuffled" in the kitchen. Meanwhile, we watched other guests enjoy their meals while we had nothing. My Italian sandwich showed up after asking for the entire hour. And worst part? The waiter never told me if it was even coming. I was left completely in the dark, wondering if I'd ever get my food. Eventually, I had no choice but to eat off my husband's plate just so I wouldn't go hungry. When my meal finally did arrive (long after it should have), the food was cold and disappointing. While the waiter apologized, it didn't change the fact that we spent our special occasion splitting one meal and feeling like an afterthought. i wanted to love this place, but the dishes fell a bit flat for me. we started off strong with some great appetizers. the foccacia bread was super fluffy and artichoke dip was quite good, even though i would not get the dip again since it was an extra add on. the chicken liver mousse was quite good, it was heavy but balanced well with the toast provided. as we moved onto entrees however, i was disappointed. the portions were miniscule and i was quite underwhelmed. the ragu einkorn cavatelli which i ordered was fine. the beef itself was very tender and delicious, but the einkorn pasta wasn't amazing. and as i mentioned, the dish was incredibly small. i also tried my friends' carbonara, duck linguine, and vogole (squid ink with clams). carbonara was as good as something you could probably make at home. the duck linguine and vogole were decent, but as with my own entree, the portions were tiny. the service was fine, and the interior was very cute. but the nice vibes would not justify me coming back. overall, i was pretty disappointed at the stingy portions and subpar quality for the price. i'm glad i tried marisi, but i likely would not return. read more
