It's beyond good. Found just off the free road near Popotla, Chubby's is in a quaint location with ample room in the dining room and a nice patio to enjoy our beautiful baja climate. Looking at the menu was overwhelming with so many amazing options. I literally stared at it for what felt like an hour. So I guess coming here ripped on the devil's lettuce wasn't too smart of an idea lol. I just couldn't narrow it down. Well, eventually I did and settled on the carne asada burrito smothered in their famous green chili. And due to the fact that I didn't have breakfast, I asked them to put an over-easy egg on top for good measure. The food came out in record time and was piping hot. The green chili was literally the best I've ever had and was the perfect amount of spice to compliment my burrito. The egg on top was cooked to perfection and pulled the whole meal together very well. The owner even told me he marinades his carne asada in beer to break down the fibers, ensuring it's juicy and tender. You can actually taste it in the meat. The rice and beans were amazing, and the bacon in the beans made my bathing suit parts tickle. Forgot to add that the complimentary chips come with his famous green chili and queso for a dip. You will try to order another cup, I promise you. If you haven't been here yet, you're missing out. Put it on your list of must-eats and be sure to stop by on your way north to the border from a K38 surf trip. It's the perfect meal to soak up any hangover and prepare you for the border wait.

I like to support local businesses so I had a beer and I would def recommend for everyone to try. Their michelada was also good. Let's talk about food! We ordered Tiradito, cucaracha (fried) shrimp, and a medium crab which was good for 3 people. Every dish was incredibly tasty. The standouts were the Tiradito made with fish, scallops, and abulone in a lemony sauce (superb!) and the garlic/butter crab which if you get it make sure to dip the warm tortillas in the garlic sitting in the pan below the crab! Heavenly food! Service: the gentleman that served us was so pleasant, friendly, and attentive to our every need. He went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and well served! Look beyond the modest surroundings and give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

I like watching Mark Weins and his adventures with food, as I am quite the foodie myself. Therefore, I found myself at Mariscos La Estrella or "Star Seafood." This place is located at the far end near the water and has a nice view, where you can see the fishermans' boats come ashore with fresh catches of the day. We walked in and were seated right away. They start you off with complimentary fresh tortilla chips and ceviche. The ceviche was okay but did not taste that fresh. My friend and I shared the region's signature delicacy, a Cangrejo Marciano, or "Martian Crab." We waited about 15 minutes for the order. The crab is large, deep fried in butter, served with beans, rice, and fresh tortillas. Unfortunately, I can't say it was out of this world. I believe this place is overhyped. Because the crab was deep fried, it shrunk and the crab meat in the claws were more shredded rather than in chunks, making it a lot of work to eat. While the concept is cool, as they give you a big rock to crack your crab... the meal was about average. I had to use a lot of lime to even out the butter flavor. The rice, beans, and tortillas were also a bit dry unfortunately. Service was great and our female server was very attentive, filling our waters and taking away our dishes promptly. It was nice to visit this place and I love supporting small businesses. However, I think I will try a different place next time for fresh fish. Overall 3.5 stars. Happy eating! Yelp Review #56- 2026

Besides being in the news for drugs and human smuggling, Popotla is known for their fresh, daily caught seafood. Mariscos La Guerita is a restaurant here. Made from leftover lumber and the blue vinyl tarp, this ghetto- fabulous eatery was visited by Anthony Bourdain. To find this place, just look for a banner that says "Antoni Bourdan visits Rosarito Popotla". It's a bit intimidating if you do not speak Spanish. First, purchase your seafood from the countless vendors on the beach. (Fish range from 20-50 pesos per kilo) Once you purchase the fish, take it to the fish cleaning station. They will clean your fish for a tip. ($1 a fish) Take the cleaned fish to La Guerita and they will cook it up to your liking for about 30 pesos a fish. They will provide you with rice, beans, tortillas and an assortment of hot sauces. While you wait, make sure to check out the other stalls for their Cóctel de Mariscos or have a few beers. There must be crack sauce in the oil. Pescado Frito and the fish tacos are among the best I've had. (My wife has tried many times to duplicate the flavor but never can.) Spider crab and the sea urchin not so much. In the winter months, look for the brown box crab. It is better than the Alaskan variety. If you are in Rosarito, Mariscos La Guerita and Popotla is a great alternative to Puerto Nuevo. (Lobster Village) Just make sure you don't need to go to the banos. (bathroom) If you do, it's 5 pesos and a tetanus shot.

My boyfriend is a big fan of the late Anthony Bourdain so he was ecstatic. We bought our crab and lobsters from the fisherman and brought it here for the ladies to cook. The place is super ghetto fabulous like others have said, nothing fancy about the plastic chairs and the pig hanging out by your feet while you eat. However, one of the best seafood meals I've had in my life. Will definitely be back soon!
