A special shoutout to Maria, our waitress, who was warm, friendly, and genuinely engaging throughout our visit. She even made sure to serve my aunt a bowl of steamed white rice ahead of the other dishes, knowing that my aunt prefers to start her meal with rice. It was such a thoughtful gesture and wonderful example of their attentive service! For our meal, we ordered roasted duck, bok choy with tofu, and several dim sum favorites, including tripe, chicken feet, stuffed eggplant, fried crispy flounder, and steamed dumplings. As always, the family-style portions were generous, and we ended up with plenty of food to share. My aunt even had to take home a good amount of leftovers! Tasty Modern Asian Kitchen remains our go-to spot for delicious, freshly prepared, and authentic Chinese cuisine with a modern twist. With great food, generous portions, and consistently warm hospitality, it's a place we're always happy to return to. The restaurant is spacious and clean, with large dining areas and a private room off to the side. Our server was helpful and patient as we went through the vast menu as first timers. His name started with "I" but I don't dare try to spell it because I know I'll get it wrong. We started with egg rolls (chicken) and soup dumplings. These might be the best and freshest egg rolls we've had in SA! The soup dumplings and the accompanying sauce were a delight, too. We ordered the Beijing ("Peking") Duck with buns (our server's recommendation), Singapore noodles, and the crispy pork belly- Macau style. I'm not really a duck person but this Duck was phenomenal. Crispy skin, all the right accoutrements, and soft pillowy buns. The only place I'll ever order Duck, going forward. The pork belly was super tender with a crisp crackly skin, and very delicious- particularly with a touch of the hoisin it comes with. I expected the Singapore noodles to have a little more of the signature curry flavor, but they were still delicious and slightly spicy. We obviously ordered more than we could finish and the portions are big, but we now have delicious leftovers, too. I didn't get any photos, but we'll definitely be back and will take some next time!
