Tribeca full? Mint closed down? Café Bar Deli.... no, go to Marios instead. Good Old Marios. Yes there are better Italian restaurants in Dublin, but there's something very familiar and welcoming about Marios, especially its Ranelagh Branch. A bit of a local hangout for me. So it always goes down well after a day out or on the way somewhere else. The staff are always good humoured and helpful. To eat I the Chicken de Mario is good stuff, the Bruschetta always nice, pizzas are tasty and steak and burgers I'm told very good too. Good selections of wines. Not too hot on beers usually, just Peroni and Heino. Frequently busy, if you need to wait for a table just run over to Russell's and you'll be called as soon as your table is ready. Dya know what i love about this place? the fact that you can sit outside and eat your lunch. and Ranelagh is the perfect place to do that. there are nice surroundings on a busy street in a busy village and there are always a great mix of people to watch as they walk by. The food is good too! obviously that's the most important thing! they do lovely thin bases on their pizzas, none of that horrible doughy thick kind! the toppings are always tasty too. to be honest i have not tried any of the other things on the menu, i am always drawn by the tasty pizzas! read more

There was a gang of us out to dinner so I didn't get much chance to soak in atmosphere, review ambience or critique the clientele. The food was well in view though so I'll start there. Starter bruschetta was lovely...a bit more "French bread and tomato" that classic Italian dish but tasty. My goat's cheese salad was only ok - a bit more could have been done with a dressing or the cheese. I tasted a little of my buddy's "Death by Choc". Hmmmm, I'd have survived death... The staff - in particular, the wait staff - were excellent in that they were polite, helpful and helpful. Would I go back? Yes. Would I be rushing? Nah. read more

I'm pretty jealous of Ranelagh. It seems to have more good restaurants per square foot than anywhere else in Dublin. Mario's is just one more to add to the list. The food is really good, but I really enjoy going there for the atmosphere. If you've spent the day cooped up in a stuffy office, then the stone and wood of Mario's is the perfect place to unwind. Nobody wants to go from computer monitors and filing cabinets to eating in a place that looks like a surgical theatre. Decided to go to Mario's one day when walking around the area. It looks great from the outside and inside and the menu looked very good. On walking in I saw a few Pizza's coming out and they looked great. However on the menu was a very tasty sounding meal of chicken stuffed with spinach and cheese and wrapped in Parma ham, in a sweet pepper sauce served with chips. That my friends sounds like an amazing meal in my book. How wrong could i have been. First of all we ordered and I not kidding it was on our table with 5 minutes. Now I'm not a chef, but I do a bit of cooking and I know that a chicken breast takes about 30 minutes minimum to cook from fresh. So far enough maybe they partially cooked then finished off somehow? Surely no microwave? Anyway the meal arrived on the table. The chicken was tasteless and obviously not freshly cooked in any sort of way. The edges of it were particularly dry so not sure how this was re-heated? The menu said wrapped in parma ham, yet there was a very thin slice on top about the size of half a fiver. The sweet pepper sauce literally tasted of nothing. It was like eating thick water. I used it to try and soften up the chicken. The chips were ok. Acceptable in a burger van, but not a restaurant. All in all it was pretty bad. How much for this delight you ask yourselves? 16.95 ridiculous. My partners meal was somewhat better than mine she had spaghetti Carbonara which she quite enjoyed hence the two stars rather than one. Also the pizza did look very nice. The inside is nice and the staff were ok, although didn't think they were the most friendly I've ever dealt with. read more

Great spot In Ranelagh! Tons of seating, great menu items and nice staff. I've been here twice now and everything was served hot and so dang tasty. I started with their mozzarella bites this time - great breaking as they are fried. They could have been a bit more melted in the center, but I'd def recommend them with the honey/Dijon sauce! I split the mozzarella/goats cheese/pesto pizza and the chicken/pancetta/leek cream sauce fettuccine with a friend! With a medium pizza and full pasta there was plenty of food for leftovers! We walked up on a Tuesday and were sat right away! This is the nice restaurant you're looking for without it being too pricey or pretentious!! read more

Service was pretty slow in the very beginning--walked in and stood there for 3 min without even seeing a server. It was a Monday night and pretty packed considering that; I think that they called in more servers while we were there. Garlic bread was a bit burnt, but really good regardless. I got pasta with mushrooms and broccoli and cream sauce--the mushrooms were an odd texture but the sauce was good and the broccoli was cooked to perfection. read more

Growing up in an Italian American family, all my Italian food was home cooked and delicious and living in the NY/NJ area we were spoiled with arguably the best pizza in the world. Unfortunately, Ireland seems to be filled with frozen pizza chains lacking in a bit of authenticity. When my sister came to visit recently, we were really in the mood for Italian and we decided to give Mario's a try and we weren't disappointed. The interior is a bit rustic with wooden tables, you don't feel like you're in a Dolmio advert, but rather you're transported back to a country house in Italy. We didn't try the pizzas but were upset with ourselves when we saw other people being served. I had chicken with tarragon sauce, which was absolutely delicious and I was upset that there wasn't more. The service was quick and there was a buzz in the restaurant that made the meal warm and enjoyable. On another occasion a friend and I went for a walk on a freakishly warm and sunny evening and decided to sit in the outside seating area of Mario's. This time I decided I must definitely get the pizza and was delighted that it was a delicious Neapolitan thin crust pizza with fresh ingredients on the top. it was lovely to sit outside in the cafe area in Ranelagh and people watch, but after our food was served we were informed by one of the service staff that we were allowed to have our food outside this time, but in future we should know that the outside seating area is only for those drinking coffee. A bit of a let down, but I wouldn't be opposed to having a coffee outside in the future. read more

If you are looking for a nice Christmas spot to catch up with some friends before you break for the holidays, I would recommend here. They have a very good fixed priced menu for Christmas and an extensive menu that is impressive too. For a Sunday night it was bustling and the the soft lighting is very homely and works well during this season. I got the spinach filled cannelloni which was a bit of a cheese overload but tasty non the less. The dessert was apple pie and was terribly over priced for what you got. My companion asked for a dessert off the fixed menu and was told no which we both thought odd as they would make more money that way. Service was painfully slow and not overly friendly but there seemed to be a lot of parties going on in the room next door so maybe they were just busy etc. read more

A very bold me had a nice Spaghetti Carbonara here recently. It was wickedly tasty, of which the bacon impressed a lot as it wasn't too fatty (says me who just ate a bowl of carbonara). My partner didn't fair too well and has reviewed as much. Suffice to say his dish did not live up to the expectations the menu set. And I would agree from a visual perspective. Stuffed chicken wrapped in parma ham. Half a slice of parma ham and it looked dry. Our orders arrived very quickly, which is fine for a Carbonara. But I very much doubt the stuffed chicken would be so quick if prepared from scratch. With a price of 16.95 EUR, very disappointing. The staff were pleasant enough and the food came fast (too fast perhaps). Pity 50% of our order was as bad as it was. I might go back for the Carbonara. read more

Meh, and that's generous. I was tempted to go with bleurgh. I went here last night for a friends birthday, a party of 10. We arrived and were seated and all was going swimmingly, until the food was brought out. 8 full minutes between the 1st being served and the last. My bruschetta was lovely, but when my main arrived ( daily special veg cannelloni) it was vile. A scant portion with a tiny bit of salad on the side, so dry I could have used it to mop up spills. For €15 I expected a LOT more both in size and quality. Another gripe is that we were left without water for the duration until I finally got a waiters attention, and then, the height of bad service - our waiter started to clear the plates as people finished before the last of our party had even come close to being done. Surely that waiter 101?!?! I wouldn't bother with here again, not with so many other options moments away. read more

Ordered take away tonight Waste of €18.50 linguine bolognese= Very Bland Garlic bread= very poor, hardly taste of any garlic in it & the bread didn't taste fresh. It tasted stale Man who took my order who seems to be the duty Manager not friendly at all & actually quite cold. I tried to chat with him telling him we used to go Mario's lots before & asked him if the lady who's the Manager still works there as i haven't been in a good while All he said was yes. He didn't seem very pleased. Will never ever go back again here. Not even for take away. I had a family meal here last night. It was very busy for a Thursday evening but that's Ranelagh for you apparently - this was the only restaurant who had a table for 5 without a booking! The service was pretty slow but we were pleased with the food when it arrived. We had both types of bruschetta for starters (the tomato one was nicer) and our main courses varied. The only main course that wasn't great was the pollo milano. The chicken was very dry and the taste was bland. I had the starter Mediterranean prawns and side of aubergine and courgette together as a main course. The veg was a bit overcooked but both were extremely tasty, especially the prawns! I also tried the rose pinot grigio which was beautiful and at only €6.25 a glass it is WELL worth trying. Overall this place has good food and a good atmosphere, just don't go here if you're in a hurry! read more

I was out for a walk with a good friend around noon on a Saturday we got hungry and decided to eat, the weather was very nice for late October so we wanted to sit outside and we stumbled upon Mario's. My friend and I both have a gluten intolerance and when we got the menu we were a bit frighted as everything looked like a stomach age in the making, we asked the staff about it and to our delight we were informed they did GF pasta. I did not hesitate to order a creamy pasta dish that was to die for. My friend has the principessa chicken and was also very happy. The food was great but the service was out of this world and the reason I am giving this place 5 stars. I have rarely experienced such nice staff anywhere in Dublin. read more

Mario's is a spot for Ranelagh families and students. It's a nice Italian; their pizzas are very nice and, as you'd expect, good pastas too. It's nice and buzzy and is usually full of enough people to provide a good atmosphere. Pizza's from €10 and pastas from €13, I think it's a little expensive for pasta in a veggie sauce. Went here for a Sunday lunch. I had the tagliatelle with salmon and pesto. My Girlfriend had chicken in tomato sauce with fries. Hers was nice, mine was bland and I couldn't finish it. I was greatly disappointed. If I had gotten my gf's dish this would be a higher mark but I can only base on my experience. Mario's is a reasonably priced treat in Ranelagh, often forgotten in the sea of trendy spots open almost weekly... The menu is a basic Italian offering with your classic bologeses and pizzas. The staff are attentive and place is really nice.. What may let Mario's down for some is it's age. It's hard to compete with the trendy changes in Dublin's competitive food market BUT Mario's is a solid place, give them some business dammit! read more

Mario's is probably my best spot in Dublin when it comes to italian restaurants!! I don't know if they know the meaning of "small portions" and that's particularly great. I ate there twice: the first time, I took the salmon with pesto tagliatelles, and the second, I took tomato bruschettas, carbonara pastas, and a dessert: a yummy tiramisu. Both time, my taste buds was so pleased and my belly was completely full at the end of the dinner. I will come back, again and again, that is for sure! read more

Came in here for a late lunch one day with two friends. We all ended up ordering a pizza! How adventurous of us all. Two of us ordered veggie pizza and one ordered a meat pizza. I had the goat's cheese one and the toppings were really nice and it had a really nice flavour to it, I quite liked my pizza, the base was thin and crispy but veered towards soggy in the middle, as is quite common with veggie pizzas. The other veggie pizza was also quite soggy in the middle. The meat pizza looked a little better in terms of how well it held together. The staff here were lovely and attentive although it was quite quiet when we were there. We didn't have any drinks. Overall, a pleasant experience but not the best pizza in the area. read more

I've been here twice in the last few weeks. It's funny the way that I've always walked by and never really gave them a credit. (Things are different now). So, my last experience there was lovely. I had mussels in a tomato sauce as starter, it comes with some bread on the side and I swear, I want it as my main course. It was go tasty and a perfect combination. As main course u went for the traditional spaghetti bolognese... I have a problem... Every time I go to a place where they make spaghetti I always go for it... It doesn't matter what's on the menu ... Anyway, let's talk about my main course again... Yeah, coz I am a big fan of that dish I know well to describe it when it's good and this one wasn't great, just a little bit blend, I was expecting to be a little more succulent, but still, I don't think it would be fair to give them less than 4 stars because of it... Service is fine. So, I'll go again, probably to give another try on that spaghetti..lol. read more

Been here a few times, never disappoints! Good selection on menu, with friendly staff. Good value for money, with generous portions sizes. Love that you can mix and match sauces with pasta type. We normally order pizza via Justeat but on a Sunday night that can equal a 75 minute wait and last night I just wasn't having it. J had to go into the office so said he could pick up something on the way back into Ranelagh. We like the pizza from Antica Venezia and the pizza from Martino's is okay but thought we should give Mario's a try. I called in our order of a caesar salad and a large pizza and despite the rude hostess, J was able to leave with our food maybe 20 minutes later. As with most caesar salads I have had in Dublin, this was just average but edible. The pizza however was a nice surprise. It came with pepperoni, goats cheese, caramelised onions and a spicy tomato sauce. Nice flavours and good crispiness to the crust. I think she said the name was the Antica but I can't be certain. I still prefer the pizza at Paulie's but given my location, I am glad to know that Mario's is around. read more

Food was nice. We had the fillet steak and pizza both quite good. Waiter asked for drinks order after the food order, asked for a pint and a glass of wine. Waiter then asked for I.D, spent about 2 minutes looking at it, asked what age i was (23) as he seemed to think it was a fake ID, before accepting the order, quite embarrassing. Found him quite rude, think I'd just ordered the most expensive thing on the menu but noticed he was providing pretty awful service to the tables around us too. Compounding this, by the time we got our food from a different waiter the drinks hadnt arrived. Also, asked the first guy for a glass of water which didn't materialize but came when requested again. When we wanted a refill of that same glass, we had to request it a second time and it still never came, All things considered, food was quite nice, steak was cooked well, chips and pepper sauce too, chocolate cake and ice cream were very nice. Food arrived within 5 minutes which is a bit suspect. Put off by a lot of bad service. read more

Lovely place for a family Italian meal. Reasonably priced and tasty food. Went there recently to celebrate my birthday with family and everyone enjoyed the food, wine and service. Particularly liked the way you can have a lot of adult mains in a smaller portion for kids. Makes a change from nuggets and chips! Kids were well feed and happy. We'll be back again. read more

I haven't been to Mario's since I lived in Dublin c.4 years ago but it was my favourite Ranelagh restaurant then and from what I've heard it's still great! They serve the best pizza in Dublin and also have some tasty pasta and main meals as well. It is pretty reasonably priced (definitely in comparison to the other Ranelagh restaurants) and has a cosy atmosphere with friendly staff and a lively buzz. Mario's is always busy, particularly on a Saturday and when I used to go you couldn't book. I recommend going about an hour before you want to eat and putting your name down with the waiter then have a drink in the tiny upstairs bar or one of the nearby pubs - the waiter will call you when a table is free. read more

Nice ambience and atmosphere and all the staff are very friendly. Food was good, but not amazing. I had the cannoli which were nice but some dressing on the salad would have been nice and I thought the bruschetta and garlic bread were a bit bland. The service from the waiters was excellent even though they were very busy. However I was ignored at the bar by the bartender who was washing glasses in front of me for a full five minutes while my dad was in the bathroom. Just because I look young ( I'm 21!) doesn't mean I'm not going to order any drinks! The second my dad came back she offered to serve us straight away!
