    Margherita pizza
    Sarah C.

Despite being in such a good location, I can't believe I've never been here. I stopped by on the way back from Costco to get a 10" margherita pizza. I watched them make it. It was delicious. I'm sure I'll be back.

Have you ever seen this before?

The pizza was ridiculously wrong. See picture. Totally ludicrous. I ordered a pepperoni pizza, and I think there was one pepperoni per slice.... a little tiny bit of cheese... and oh my the sauce. So. much. sauce. What did I do to the Pizza Gods to deserve this?!! I didn't open it before I left. LUDICROUS, I say! I should have ate my $20 dollars. MUY MAL! OY VEY!

There is a reason why Mario's is able to add new locations from time to time. Just plain consistently good pizza, Napolitano and/or New York style which are basically one in the same. One slice of pizza is enough for a meal, rather huge. There are other New York Pizza options in this area but each has their own slight variation on the formula. To me Mario's hits the home run with a perfect balance between cheese and the sauce. The sauce is particularly good has lots of flavor and maybe even a slight slight bite or kick to it. Crust is also on target just slightly charred but not burnt and far from burnt to a crisp. Reminds me of the Pizza I ate often growing up in NYC. Government and I love being able to fold a pizza and eat it properly like a New Yorker. Some other good New York chains may not have the crust as right one in particular makes it so thin at times that it's kind of hard to eat it easily with one hand. But not Mario's CONSISTENTLY proper. Owners are fro the city, Staten Island if I am correct. Home to lot's of Italians. And obviously the skills have been passed down to the staff at every location I have had the privilege to sample. CONSISTENCY. This location at Cloverdale by Atrium Wake Forest Baptist hospital I think may be the original Mario's location? It can accommodate a huge number of clients with so many tables and chairs and even barstools which I think is really cool especially for lunch on the run gives me the feeling of New York City. Some years back the restaurant was remodeled and they have done a nice job with bold colors and tile floors and tile in the bathrooms. Love the LCD screen menus and the pictorial representation of how big the different size pizzas are. Makes everything very clear. And the staff run a smooth operation. And the guy at the cash register as a friendly demeanor. Always happy with my home for pizza, MARRIO's. Especially the two very close locations to my house in Ardmore. As a NYC'er I strongly recommend any MARIO'S.

Good hot and fresh pizza. Service was quick. Girl at the front was helpful! Restaurant was clean. We ate outside to enjoy the nice evening weather. No complaints on this one. First time here and would return when I head back into town!

I've been eating at Mario's Pizza for about 20 years but usually don't go to this location. This location is larger than the other 3 Mario's in our area. It's off the beaten path a little on Cloverdale next to Panera. I came in for lunch with my husband on a Saturday around 12:30 pm. It wasn't busy when we got here but the dining room soon filled up with customers and a small soccer team that sat in the back of the restaurant(Oh the memories!) We ordered a small cheese pizza, well done because I like a crispy crust and I can't come here without getting a Chicken Philly made 'Mario's way' or I'd hate myself. Seriously, I could die happy eating this sandwich and tacos for the rest of my life. Of course our food was amazing, the service was super friendly and fast. All the usual great things that keep me coming back, but THIS location has two awesome things the others(well, at least the one on Hanes Mall Blvd) doesn't. #1: Cheerwine in the fountain. Yep! My favorite local soft drink is available at this location. #2 THE Tiramisu. It's in a little plastic cup and I don't know why, but I love it! The other location switched to a sliced version and it's just not good to me. The little cup is the one I crave. I'll keep ordering it as long as they keep carrying it so please don't ever switch Cloverdale Mario's! You are going to be my first choice location from now on.

I mean the pies (pizza) is always delicious, always great & I have always recommend because to me it's the best around . However, that night it was even better it was just soooo exceptionally delicious that had it not been for the fact that I have recently gotten myself in trouble with my doctor for my A1C for diabetes & really have to watch my carb/sugar intake ...I probably would have had a whole pie myself!! We also had a small cheese pie & at the end my family shared a cannoli. All super delicious, & as always where in most places I would most likely not eat the crust, here don't you dare touch my crust , because every single bite of my slice is worth the carb intake I held out for all day!! So, if you want the best pizza, head on over to them & if you want anything other than cheese try the Chicken Bacon Ranch, you won't regret it! Tell them Miss Diane sent you, lol!! They know my name. Crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside, slightly charred, it's a flavor and texture masterpiece. Mine was topped with burrata and prosciutto, they were generous with the prosciutto and it was so good and perfectly complimented by the melty burrata. A side of marina sauce adds extra zing. I found half a piece to be a satisfactory amount. My husband said he had almost ordered two pieces but only ordered one, he ate the other half of mine and found 1-1/2 pieces to be a good amount for him. He said he could have eaten two but 2-1/2 would have been too much. I chose a can of red wine to accompany this showpiece. The man behind the counter noted that the wine is made from Sangiovese grapes (as is Chianti, which is a Sangiovese blend). I thought it was an ok accompaniment to the pizza, it's not something I would drink on its own. The weather was perfect for dining al fresco, the other patrons were mostly groups of young couples, some with babies strapped to their bodies or in strollers or young children scooting about on riding toys. Pleasant.

The flavors are bold, authentic, and just really well executed. It's also the perfect way to be introduced to a new restaurant--one that you'll immediately want to become a regular at. James Beard semifinalist. Ranked top 50 in the USA for numerous years and #18 in 2025 ("50 Top…read morePizza USA" rankings). Let me repeat...#18 in the thousands and thousands of pizza joints across the country. And right here in our very own Triad area! Super cozy interior with an exquisite Italian style pizza oven, great mood lighting and a wonderful bar top right by where the main pizza makers are doing their thing. But let's get to the food. I say this and I do not say it lightly...THE BEST NEAPOLITAN STYLE PIZZA I'VE HAD IN YEARS. This place isn't your typical neighborhood pizza joint. It's in a league of it's own compared to those, especially when it comes to Neapolitan style pizzas. First, the arancini app was superb. Crispy and hot on the outside, with soft rice and oozing cheese in the middle, cradled on the plate by an amazing homemade marinara sauce. And the main event, a mushroom pizza. The dough is one of the best I've had, light and fluffy, and baked to perfection. Chef Peyton is an artist and the pizza dough is his canvas. All the main ingredients (the cheese, dough and sauce) are all in the true Neapolitan form. And the toppings aren't your typical grocery store level stuff. The mushrooms were a medley of oyster and trumpet mushrooms, locally sourced from Heritage Harvest Farm. And these don't just get thrown on raw and the whole pizza baked...oh no. Chef Peyton prepares them prior in a skillet which get put in the pizza oven to roast and pre-bake. You can taste the difference here. And I was told that many of the ingredients are locally sourced, fresh and farm to table. Pure perfection from crust to crust, end to end, top to bottom. Let's talk about the price and put it in perspective. Sure, it's a little more pricy than your local pizza shop down the street. But the high value you're getting here absolutely validates the pricing. The fresh farm to table ingredients and the meticulously made pizzas are on another level. And honestly, I've had more expensive Italian food and pizza, and many of them don't come close when comparing apples to apples. It's 100% worth it. I'm a pizza lover, fan and addict. This ranks in the top 3, if not higher, pizza experiences I've had throughout the decades. I can't wait to go back and try their "Pizzakase", an omakase style Italian tasting experience. If you love pizza, Italian food, or just experiencing something truly delicious, you need to come and try it. This will be our go to "pizza experience" spot for years to come.
