Marion's is always a nice little nostalgia spot for anyone in the area. The pizza is good, it's nothing amazing but I will always eat it. The prices are nice and the place is cute. The guy calling the orders up needs a raise I can tell you that, he had the whole place smiling. They always cut them in squares and they use local places for things like sausage. Always a favor of mine to get pizza at Marion's. I make it a point to grab a pizza from here every time I come back home. It's been a couple occasions where my wife and me will take a road trip and we grab this to snack on when driving back to our new home. So many memories from my childhood from grabbing a quick pizza with my parents to eat at home, to friends having pizza parties here. This is a review from an outsider who is looking in on this local pizza "chain" in the Dayton, OH region. Looking at some other reviews, I can see the locals are swearing by this pizza they love... and the travelers who are (somewhat) puzzled. Before I talk about the pizza, let me quickly say that this is like a neighborhood hang out spot. Big and roomy... this is like the place the softball league goes after a game. There's a drinks area for soda, beer, and wine(?!?) and an arcade room. I'm having Marion's Deluxe (naturally, choose the namesake dish). The sausage is ground up and a bit extruded. The mushrooms are probably canned (I cannot prove that, so I apologize). The onions are riced. The pepperoni is pretty legit. It is square cut. The crust... well... they talk about thin-crust. Is it? Have you ever had a Totinos frozen pizza? It's reminds me of that. But it's prepared perfectly for crunch and chew. It's scarfin' pizza. Not gourmet stuff - if that's the benchmark, then it's not gonna hit. The price is also reasonable, which adds to the whole casual attitude of the place. You order your food and drinks separately (like at totally different registers). So you can order food, and then get your drinks later, after your food is ready. This frees you up to play at the arcade while you're waiting for your food. I really appreciated that even though this is a pizza place, there are a good number of non-pizza menu options. There are a lot of drink options, too. The restaurant is spacious and clean, with a small (but not too small) arcade area near the entrance. We were there at 4:00 for an early dinner, so there was plenty of available seating. (I've heard it does get busier later, at actual dinner time.) Let me begin on the size. Their large is anyone else's medium. I got a "large" pepperoni pizza. Pretty basic order. It's party cut. They party cut a medium pizza. I didn't ask for party cut. I'd take it back in, they claim to have a guarantee where they'd make a new one. But there's a 30 minute wait. So I'll deal with it. The pizza lacks flavor. The only flavor I'm getting is from the pepperoni. Sauce is bland. Crust is bland. Am I eating pizza or hardtack? Oh, and it's barely warm. I just got it and it's barely warm. Never again. read more

Pizza is delicious. We like the thin crust. We like being able to place an order and seat ourselves and not have to spend extra for tipping a server, which is really not needed for a pizza joint. What's weird about this place is that you have to go to TWO counters to place two separate orders if you also want beverages. I suppose that helps you not notice how long it takes to make the pizza? (Not that it took terribly long, just that it gives you something else to do while waiting for the pizza to be ready.) So I got there at 5:50 I waited for 10 minutes then asked them about my order and they said it wasn't done so I waited some more. This is a childhood favorite and when home I always try and stop by. This year was the first that I could take my boys. Of course marions didn't disappoint. We ordered two pepperoni pizzas that what I would have ordered as a kid, same taste same look and same smell that I remember as a child. I returned home for the Holidays and wanted a home town favorite, big mistake!!! This is without a doubt the nastiest kitchen/food prep area I have ever seen! I walked right up to the open kitchen and took two pictures with no one showing any concern as to why. When I confronted the so called 'manager' his response was simply "it's not usualy this bad", but made no attempt to get up from his seat (yes he was sitting in the dining room while his kitchen area looked like this) and take any kind of steps to correct this disgusting unsanitary mess. I have ordered from Marion's since they were in the diner in North Dayton view. I like their food but seems their preparation has gone to the dogs. I ordered 4 sandwiches today and all of them were burned. One was supposed to have extra cheese and you needed a magnifying glass to find the cheese on it. It seems they never clean their oven or rake it out when something does burn. They need some new management before they completely ruin the business. Absolutely five stars! It's not because I'm nostalgic or sentimental, it's because this is delicious pizza! I think it's the sausage crumbles, the perfect thin crust or maybe the square cut that makes this awesome. Consistently awesome, no changes in flavour and quality in decades. You can probably get a good pizza somewhere else cheaper (13 in. Is the largest size), a deluxe is $16.50, but for great pizza you need to stick to Marion's. I do not think they deliver, and I've only eaten in once or twice. The dining area is spacious with ample table and chairs, nothing fancy though. I've come very close to having pizza almost as good, but hands down this is the best. I have not found sausage crumbles like this anywhere else. So for a walk down memory lane, I get the deluxe pizza and a bag of smoked bacon Mike Sells potato chips (they're sold at the register). Bring cash though, or use their costly ATM, because no debit or credit cards are accepted. read more

Damn, Englewood, c'mon - this place is packed every time I come here - one person has to Yelp it, yes? Grew up in this town and grew to love this pizza like no other. Yes, going to Noble Roman's in high school and drinking - quality; getting Cassano's after work at Video Towne - glad you are still open late. But no pizza is like this pizza. Pepperoni and sausage (which, to be fair, looks and tastes like no sausage I've had on any other pizza), thin crust cut into squares (and hopefully in the oven an extra minute or two) - so good. I mean, when I lived in Ann Arbor and my wife's family lived in Indianapolis, we'd drive the extra time to go through Dayton to get this Pizza. When I was in Indiana for my wedding, my bachelor party was three guys driving two plus hours for pizza, then driving back. Yes, there was a strip club thrown in there as well, but whatever. It would be $100+ to ship pizza from here to Oakland, and I'm actually thinking about it. I'm telling you - go to Marion's. Five f-ing stars. read more

OK, I wanted to be fair before a review. I have now had this pizza 3 times in the last 2 years. I personally find it very overrated. It's not bad, I ate the pizza, but I am here to tell you Cassano's is just as good. In fact I get A pepperoni pizza from Cassano's a lot for lunch, and I can't tell the difference. Again I am not saying it's bad pizza, but to me, Ron's, Marion's, and Cassano's are the same pizza. You purchase food at a different register than drinks which is odd but there is a long row of self service beers and drinks similar to a convince store. So if you like a large selection you will like this. The less enjoyable aspects are : The decor is dated but tied to the style of the restaurant. Staff aren't friendly or interested in guest needs. This marion's has a special place in my heart as I grew up going to this marion's for various family events and dinners, playing in the arcade, but finally, because I worked there. Their pizza used to be a LOT better. They have changed the sauce I do believe. It's not the same. I have heard that this is the only location that has done this but I haven't checked. They accept cash only, so be prepared and you can find a 25% off in the dollar saver every now and again during the slow months. If you come here on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday expect to have some company in the dining room. It's cheaper to buy a 2 liter than a pitcher of pop, so please, do yourself a favor and buy a 2 liter. I try to get back here when I am in town... well, either here or dewey's! :) read more
