I have been enjoying this pizza place for several years now. I love the meatball sub, calzones and eggplant. I always felt safe in this restaurant until this past Monday. As I was trying to back out and pull into a closer parking spot, another car blew his horn at me. I had not seen him. Once inside he harassed me not once, not twice, but three times. Then, he continued to talk about me in Italian to the two owners and employee. He was intimidating, a bully and I was scared he would hurt me or do something to my car. No one came to my defense. No one told him to knock it off. I am a 62 year old, 5 ft 3 inch, 145 lb woman. He is a 40ish, 6 foot, 200lb.man. I apologized several times and he just kept at it. What would have happened if I had backed into him? I probably would not be writing this. read more

Well the Pizza is hands down the best around. The wings are good too. The only thing that prevents this place from being perfect is the attitude of the old guys that work at the register. I grew up around the corner from this place so went often. Fast forward I've now been in NYC for 7 years. Went back to my folks recently and order a pie and some wings. I love NYC pizza but I actually like Mario's more. That slightly thicker chewy crust but still crispy on the bottom. Crumbly sausage with peppers and unions is delicious. I grew up in NJ and like to think that I know a thing or two about pizza. Well, Mario & Salvo's is legit NY-style pizza that can hold its own with any of the big boys in the NYC area. This isn't trendy, artisanal, wood-fired stuff (and there's nothing wrong with those things--occasionally, I'm in the mood for that)--this is classic, thin crust pizza with exceptional sauce and crust. As importantly, the place is almost freakishly consistent in terms of quality--we've been there at least two dozen times and have never been disappointed. Honestly, I'm not sure why this place gets such high marks. My husband and just finished our pizza. The sauce was bland. The cheese was spotty at best. The crust may as well have been cardboard. In fact, cardboard would have been easier to bite through. I feel like I should have burned a twenty dollar bill rather than ingest this most undesirable product. I've lived a few short miles from this place for years but never tried it out till my daughter moved into their neighborhood. Great pizza and wings. Nice thin crust with good flavor, and just a bit of oil,,,,perfect in my opinion. I'm a plain cheese kind of pizza lover but have had other toppings with equal satisfaction. Quirky employees/family? Super disappointed.. we have been here three times. The first was a year ago; we ate in the shop and were pleasantly pleased. Our second try was a month ago for carry out. The pizza was nothing like the first time (crust was super thick) and the wings were just "ok". The third and last time was last night. We ordered a Rustica Pizza and antipasto salad. The pizza was very thick and just cheese, a few slices of tomato and some kalamata olives(unsure why this was $20). The salad had two slices of tomatoes, two slices of cucumber, three olives and a few tiny meat/cheese pinwheels. Very disappointing overall. read more
