Harry's Marine Repair

Harry's is without a doubt the finest yard on the LI Sound I…read morecannot let that one review stand w/o commenting They are honest, reliable, perform amazing service Tell you when to seek specialists, unbelievably quick to get to your job. Wholly recommend Michael Feldman New York, NY

We initially had a good experience, but it quickly turned into one of the worst customer service…read moresituations we've ever dealt with. We hired Harry's to store our boat and install new engines so we could sell it. Before the sale, they agreed to continue working on the boat for the new owner to handle some final adjustments. However, after the buyer drove four hours to complete the purchase, Harry Sr. abruptly refused to do any further work, saying they had simply "changed their minds." This left the new owner stranded and forced us to scramble to find another mechanic on short notice. The situation escalated further on launch day. Harry's refused to release the boat because our engine installation bill hadn't been paid yet, even though ownership had already transferred. When I questioned the charges, which were significantly higher than expected, they refused to discuss it and instead yelled at me over the phone. I was told to pay in full or the boat wouldn't be released, leaving us no real choice. I called to make the credit card payment over the phone and even though we had always paid by credit card, they refused to accept it and said we had to bring cash. We would have to transfer money into our checking account from an outside account, which would keep the new owner from taking his boat for 3-5 business days. I finally got him to take my card number, but then the new owner of the boat said they still wouldn't use it. They are refusing to take our cc payment now. I have recordings of our phone calls if needed. The entire experience became unnecessarily stressful and unprofessional, especially for a business dealing directly with customers during major transactions. We ended up having to bring cash to the marina and pay the overcharged bill so the new owner of the boat could launch and take it to New York. We would not recommend anyone do business here. They are rude and will overcharge as they see fit.

Not too many reviews of this Marine store on yelp, so I thought I would weigh in with our…read moreexperience. We purchased a new Jeanneau 7.5 walk around in 2021 and our experience has been extraordinary. Mike and Penny have been exemplary in their support and communications to us as was needed. The salesperson I had originally worked with left before the boat was delivered, Mike took over. The boat hull was white, we had ordered the blue hull and without hesitation, Mike offered us the chance to vinyl wrap the boat at no cost to us, since we had desired a colored hull. In addition, a few of the inevitable minor problems have been quickly and fairly corrected by the people at Louis Marine. We feel that we have been taken care of quite well and would recommend a Jeaneau powerboat to anyone looking and would definitely recommend Louis Marine as the place to purchase your next boat!

Back in 2013, we ordered a new boat from somewhere else. The experience was pretty awful. For one,…read morethe wait was painful -- no updates, no communication whatsoever, and when the boat finally came in months later, it had the wrong interior color and multiple other issues. Once we launched the boat, we became parasites to the dealer. Minor warranty repairs became 6+ month affairs, getting a returned call was like demanding someone's first born child, and the list goes on. Our experience with Louis Marine couldn't have been more opposite. We ordered a new boat from them last year and took delivery this summer. Throughout the wait for our new beauty to come in, Mike kept us informed and passed along updates from the factory, and he was super responsive even when I was sure I was becoming super annoying with question after question. We took delivery 3 months ago and they've been awesome still. We've had a couple of minor factory-driven issues that Mike and his team were ALL OVER. Not only have they made special trips up to where we're keeping our boat in RI to address the issues, but Matt on their team has proactively checked in with us a couple of times to make sure that everything is going good. And whenever we have questions, Matt is all over them like white on rice within a day or two, at most. I share these two polar opposite boat buying experiences because buying a new (or used) boat is a huge financial and time commitment, and I know now that a good dealer makes all the difference. I can honestly say with experience that the team at Louis Marine are the real deal. We're glad to be customers of theirs and hope to be for many years to come!

The guy Scott's a good mechanic and if you're in that area of the Connecticut River base around Old…read moresaybrook or Essex you can get both parts there. The guy probably has everything. I bought a boat as Marina from a customer It was an old boat that I was unrealistically and ridiculously underqualified to do the maintenance on the guy that sold me. The boat failed to tell me that there was no access to the engines without four guys and an hour labor to take entire top of the boat off. I bought the boats because them rings in Montauk are incredibly expensive and I thought I could get a better deal storing it in Connecticut. I also have had very good friend or a few friends over there that I thought could help me do some basic stuff like the oil change change and things de-winterize it. Do some teak work. Paint the bottom and splash Turns out that area of the Connecticut River is brackish water. I need a massive barnacle problem. The black fin that the owner failed to mention was infested with Barnacles up into the housing unit stuffing unit. I made a mistake of telling Scott to go ahead and remove the Barnacles but I forgot to tell my partner/friend about it and he went ahead and did it anyway. Apparently he didn't leave tarps down and caused massive environmental damage with the barnacle shells and the internet $500 cleanup. So now it started as a good thing. Me doing a favor for a friend ended up with us. Bickering and yelling and a friend fit dissolving and now I'm stuck with a boat that I really can't get rid of cuz they're real dinosaurs. Nevertheless, I'm glad that Scott and places like S&S Marina exist that very few mechanics that can work on inboards anymore, Montauk could use a mechanic like Scott. They're a dying breed. It's a very tough job where you're always at a weird angle and four bolts. Three bolts can come out perfectly. And the third one you got to spend the 3 hours on because it's corroded and the spreads are not coming out and you have And you can burn it off. Sometimes one little simple set like set back like that can take 3 hours and that ends up on your bill and people freak out. I used to be the type of guy that would freak out about Marina bills until I worked at a marina. I've worked side by side with some great mechanics and I see what happens. The hardest job there is doing discussing mildew areas and gross holes and billages your breathing and dangerous stuff. The hard job they deserve the money. I just got into a bolt that I couldn't handle and when you do that you better be a multi-millionaire and I'm not. Scott's assistant Caroline was very pleasant and professional I was hoping she would send me an invoice for some of that commissioning work they did I'm still not sure of what it cost for a short haul. That's why it's not a 5 but other than that the place is clean. The docks are beautiful right there on the river. It's a great place for transient to stay and again he is parked for just about every engine and if not he'll work hard to find them. God's probably wanting few professional Marine mechanics that'll get the job done. Not cheap but if you want cheap do it yourself

In each instance he went way above and beyond the call of duty, having key parts shipped overnight from the factory and, in one instance, having one of his team install the part immediately at his facility, and in the other, many miles away, finding the right guy to do it and arranging for him to do it promptly where I was. In each of these two instances Scott was utterly responsive, fair in his pricing, and easy to work with. I'm grateful for how he helped me in tough spots, and I recommend him highly.
