I have seen in some other reviews negative remarks about Ann and her seemingly strict attitude about placements.

My sister and I tried fostering a cat through Jake's Place, and failed. LOL. We kept the kitty!…read moreJake's Place is one of the nicest rescue organizations I've come across. If you're looking to foster or adopt a cat in Marin, this is your go to. The founder has dedicated herself to rescuing all types of cats in need of rehoming - kittens, adults, and most touching (IMHO), seniors. I'm a cat lover (my boyfriend might say cat lady) and have always made a point of seeking out the kitties that need the most love (old, special needs, etc.). Seems Jake's Place feels the same way and that's why I naturally gravitated to them. Deb is a total sweetheart and set us up with special food for Louie (he had crystals in his urethra when he was younger and eats S/O as a preventive measure) and prepared us with a starter kit (litter box, scratching post, toys). All we needed to add was the TLC. Sometimes I head over to Petco now just to ogle the sweet cats and chat up the volunteers. They are there every Sunday. And, kitten season is just winding down, so I still get my cuddle time in with the lil' ones before they are snapped up. But the sweeties that are 2, 3, 5, 7 years old even are just so darn appreciative of the love. They get me every time. Thanks Deb and team. Keep up the great work!

I have fostered one cat and adopted three cats over the years from Jakes Place. Each time, Jakes…read morePlace has been incredibly supportive and always available to provide advice when asked. This support lasted for years! Because of their foster system, they really understand their cats and can give a very good description of their behaviors - you have a good chance of knowing whether you match. They have also been very kid friendly. When I was visiting with various cat rescue groups, Debbie stood out for me as she was so patient and nice to my kids. Other rescue groups seemed to want to push me away once they found out I had children. Not Debbie. She talked with them and they loved talking with her.

When I doubled back months after adoption with the female volunteer about PJ's awful demeanor, she commented that he has anger issues towards women and had to cut him off herself months prior. We did not receive any medical records for our cats including any microchip information. We were never told that one of our cats was extremely sick with respiratory issues when Fuzzy Butt Rescue first obtained them (I found this out 1.5 yrs into ownership after issues had already arose). We were never told that male, neutered cats are prone to urinary tract infections or we would have adopted female cats; I am a solo mom with 100% of everything for my child so my plate is full as is. We were never told that a key piece of healthy lifestyle for male, neutered cats in preventing UTIs is room to run around before my 10-yo son and I brought them home to our 700 sq ft condo. When confronted with health issues with our pets, PJ refused to make any effort to help us get them care. He was insulting and called me "cheap" for not being willing to spend thousands of dollars on testing despite that I took our cat to 2 emergency clinic visits after working hours the first of which was around midnight before a big job I had booked for the next day. He said he would take them back vs actually helping us to resolve the issue. Our cat's UTI was resolved with a $10 homeopathic product on Amazon that has over 10K reviews and a 4.4 star rating. He called that product "a hoax" but it worked in ONE day once I had time to stay home with the cat and treat him. PJ insulted me for even thinking of trying the homeopathic product vs agreeing to thousands of dollars of testing as a first resort. This guy is the absolute worst. If you want a pleasant and professional pet adoption process, go somewhere that has built a documented reputation in that vein which provides the necessary medical history on adoption (I wasn't aware there was any or I would have asked!). It's March 2023 and I'm looking at our cat's 9 page vet record now in after we got them in Feb 2021 and am shaking my head. This cat has major health problems. I had 2 cats as a child for almost 20 yrs with none of these issues. My son was crying in his sleep last night with a nightmare about losing our cat. Screw you and your judgment and negligence, PJ.

We wandered in and tried to get a kitten here. After a few days I asked when we could come pick up the cat. Ashley Ascencio and PJ McKovsky responded with rude/angry/mansplaining/outright mean emails, saying we couldn't have the cat because we'd let him go outside. Could do without the cat shaming lecture, it's not an effective way to educate people. Nasty email: "If you're next step is to go buy an animal instead of self reflecting then that speaks highly of you. We feel even more solid in our decision. Please explain to your child you do not value the lives and well being of your animals and I think he'll understand our decision too." Bad experience at this place, Avoid unless you want to deal with mean people. I also agree that they are withholding the medical history of the cats. My husband thought the cat seemed sick. I thought he was just bored and depressed in the cage, but I saw later on the facebook page that this bunch of cats all had extensive medical issues. No one informed me of that at all when we filled out the paperwork on him.
