Bunnies are such unique and overlooked animals, I'm so grateful for Saveabunny, Marcy, and her team for what they do. I rescued my first bunny Hopps (formally known as Tamrin at saveabunny) here about 6-7 years ago. I've always loved bunnies but knew nothing about them, I did tons of research but still had a lot more to learn. Marcy and her team were very strict in terms of what they were looking for in regards to a family that would be good to the bunnies and I can see why some folks here have had some maybe not so pleasant interactions. I'll be honest I did feel like it was a bit intimidating when I first came here too but now I look back and I see why they are so strict and firm with their rules. Bunnies are the 3rd most abandoned pets after cats and dogs and a lot of people don't know much about bunnies. Many think they are easy low maintenance pets that can stay in cages for their life which couldn't be further from the truth. Bunnies are a lot of work and MONEYYY, because they are considered exotic pets it is very difficult to find good vets and even when you do find one be prepared to pay more than what you would for dogs and cats. With all that said Bunnies are also so adorable and cute and honestly worth all the work. My two bunnies Hopps and Scotch have helped me get through a lot of rough times in my life and it may sound crazy that a 35 year old man is here typing this but it's the truth. After a long stressful day at work I come home and my mood immediately becomes ecstatic when I see my bunnies. This was our first visit to Marcy and Save A Bunny, and I'm so happy we came. My fiancé and I are the furparents of a very feisty mini lop named Sprout. On the suggestion of a few of our bunny-experienced friends, Sprout came along to find a potential partner. I was apprehensive about it, I am still new to bunnies and don't read behavior and bunny talk as well as I'd like. Marcy gave us a little lesson in bunny behavior today! Sprout was tried out with several bunnies, and while the dynamic wasn't quite right with any of them, Sprout definitely had a learning curve in what's acceptable and what's impolite! Marcy was SO tuned in, and redirected, halted any foolishness, and praised accordingly. As Save A Bunny is a non-profit rescue, the staff is made up of mainly volunteers. As fellow bunny people, we were asked if we'd like to pitch in with a few small things (bit of grooming a teeny lionhead baby for me, snuggling a lop and holding him for critical care for my fiancé). If you come to Save A Bunny, jump in and do what you can! You'll feel better for it and will be a big help. On Marcy's recommendation, we will be taking a month or two to work with Sprout's naughty behavior, practice picking him up more and clicker training, and will hopefully return to find a rabbit friend for Sprout. I had called them today because I put in an application a week ago and had not heard back about adopting a bunny. A woman named Abbie called me back and when I noted that, she said that was their standard timeframe. I said that's unusual from an adoption organization and they should probably include that on the website because most would think they hadn't received their application. She then proceeds to tell me that they only adopt out to homes that would be housing their bunnies indoor. Basically saying they wouldn't adopt to me because the application had asked how would I housed it and I noted indoors and outdoors. I've had bunnies before and while they lived inside, when I was outside we would let them run around with the family. To which she said that it was a risk because of predators and they could get out. All of which I am aware of and I told her that it always under supervision. At this point, from her judgemental tone, it was clear she had no intention of adopting a bunny to me. She spoke to me less than a minute but Abbie shut me down on everything I responded with. I then told her that it sounded like they didn't want to adopt a bunny to me unless I followed their specific requirements. She said they were recommendations but if I didn't want to take their recommendations from people with years of experience than I should adopt from somewhere else. I will simply because I don't like how I was treated by Abbie. I hope this was one-off and they don't treat everyone like this. It's unfortunate because they do have so many bunnies and it dissuades people from wanting to adopt a bunny in need and buying one. My husband and I LOVE save a bunny and have dealt with them over 13 years. The owner and volunteers love these animals and are trying to find the best home for the rabbits. They are volunteers and have the animals best interests in mind - all good intentions. We got our first rabbit from this organization and she was a perfect pet. They spent a lot of time with us to match her to us. And then spent more time trying to bond her to other rabbits. We must have been there for hours. Talk about commitment. I have emailed this organization multiple times over 13 years. They have always been responsive. Lastly, we were looking to get another rabbit, but just got a puppy. We went over to the facility and fell In love with a few rabbits. They respectfully voiced their concerns about a puppy. We waited to add another rabbit to our family and they were right. Marin is a place where you'll find some very unique people, and without a doubt Marcy is one of these folks. I have taken my 14-years old rabbit to SaveABunny twice now, for more than a week each time. There is no place that cares for pet animals with such dedication as their staff. But good as this service is, boarding isn't their main mission. The fact is that there are a number of absolutely perfect rabbits taken to the Humane Center every week, and SaveABunny takes them in and tries to find them new homes. Now, not many rabbits live to the ripe old age of 14 as mine has: the more usual outcome is to go much earlier due to autos, hunters, dogs, or - worst of all - euthanasia at the local shelter. And while usually overlooked by parents looking for a pet for their kids, rabbits make the best indoor pets. And they become more interesting and personable as they get older. Marcy has a wide variety of young, healthy rabbits that are housetrained, much younger than mine, vegetarians if that matters to you, and ready for a new home. After hearing my coworker rave about her success with bonding her rabbits here, I used Marcy's bonding services. I can't tell you how much of a relief it was to have someone so knowledgeable and zen take over. I had my bunnies (buttercup and daisy) boarded with Marcy for 6 days. The purpose of the boarding was for Marcy to supervise them and bond them. Marcy was so calm and helpful! When buttercup mounted daisy (normal behavior, as long as daisy was ok with it.. Which she was) Marcy could see how nervous I was, and she explained to me how it was a positive thing. She knows rabbits and the rabbit psyche like the back of her hand. My buns are now bonded and I am over the moon! I also bought three of the wooden hay savers that they sell, and those are awesome! 100% of the money goes to the rescue for all services/products you purchase. I rescued both my bunnies from Marcy at SaveaBunny (originally Pooh and Diego, now Millie and Nemo, respectively!). I found it VERY easy and smooth during the adoption process. I had Millie first, then I decided to get another. Marcy allowed me to put my Millie through a "dating" process. Millie was very protective of her space, but after an hour or so, she made it clear that she'd like her life partner to be Nemo. Marcy is very protective of her bunnies. She treats them as her own kids and carefully screens. This is important since all these bunnies come from neglectful pasts. If you don't have the patience to get a short screening, then you're probably not ready to be a bunny's forever home! Oh, and Marcy looks a lot like Cheri Oteri from Saturday Night Live. I went on a mission to rescue a bunny and ended up on Save A Bunny's website. A lot of the stories are heartbreaking, you should really take the time to browse their site. I ended up making an appointment to meet some of the rabbits and fell absolutely in love with a gorgeous bunny Piper (now Bon Bon). Marcy is DEFINITELY the Bunny Whisperer, and you can tell she has such a great knowledge base. She chose Bon Bon as the first bunny for me to meet, and Bon Bon is definitely my bunny match. She is the bunny version of ME! The rescue is also unbelievably clean, and the rabbits all look well taken care of. You can tell Marcy is passionate about her vision and is devoted to her mission. I don't understand some of the previous reviews, and I really believe that Marcy just wants to make sure the rabbits go to the right place. So, Bon Bon has settled into my apartment nicely. She has unlimited hay, Romaine lettuce daily, and gets her beautiful coat brushed. She also gets to roam around my apartment everyday and man, is she curious. However, give her a toilet paper roll (without the toilet paper, of course) and she's happy for at least an hour. It is a commitment if you are considering adopting a bunny, as rabbits live for many years, but I think it is a commitment worth having. They are easy to care for and easy to love :) read more

We've gotten three bunnies from SaveABunny. It takes awhile to meet a bunch of bunnies until you find the one that bonds with you, especially if you already have a rabbit that you want to bond with a new friend. The folks at SaveABunny are willing to go through this process with you, even it takes many hours and/or multiple visits. Their dedication to finding good homes for their buns, and good matches for adopters, is really outstanding. And the resolve and tenacity they put into accomplishing the most they can with their slender resources is quite inspiring. That's why I'm not just an adopter, I'm a donor. The bunny we adopted from SaveABunny a couple of months ago has already become part of the family. ADDITION to my original review 09/01/17:  Several months after writing this review, Save a Bunny contacted me asking to take down my negative review. Now looking through other reviews, I realize several people have had the same experience! I strongly encourage Yelpers to heed the negative reviews and look at other shelters like the SPCA or Rabbit Ears (El Cerrito). You will find knowledgeable volunteers who have far more respect for adopters and just as much love for the bunnies. ORIGINAL REVIEW 5/18/17: I had a lot of faith in this organization, but 3 days of incredibly poor communication and weak excuses have changed my mind. I am well aware that this is a volunteer-based community but I have worked with plenty of rescues with a fraction of the funding and manpower, and have never run into so much trouble with even getting a phone call answered.  I have a serious bunny issue that I need resolved and I don't even know if I want this bunny to return to a shelter where calls and emails are given the bare minimum. How is she ever to find a forever home with that service? Calls not being answered? Getting an email redirecting me to a line that isn't being answered? This is ridiculous.  Please step up your game and don't just make excuses. I am an adopter that has gone above and beyond for this bunny and have been singing your praises. When I was there, it took me and my daughter 3 hours to bond with a bunny (so plan ahead). I thought we would just bond with any rabbit we picked and be in and out. Boy was I wrong! Me and my daughter must have sat with I think 7 different rabbits there and we didn't bond with any of them at all. We started to get discouraged at the end and then one of the volunteers said "wait let me try one more bunny. He's got a really strong personality just like you and I think he'd be perfect for you." Lol the second he was placed in the pen we were sitting in, we fell in love with him and totally connected and now that I look back, I would tell everyone to not adopt a rabbit if you don't want to spend the time to bond with it no matter how long it took before you bring it home. He is our best friend and my 15 year old daughter's comfort pet. We wouldn't trade him for the world. Thank you so much SaveABunny for giving him so much love. This post is in direct response to Caitlin S.'s review from January 1st. Who, btw, has only 5 other reviews on Yelp and has clearly taken this opportunity to try to shame SaveABunny. As one of the multiple volunteers, including Marcy, who worked directly with this person on Christmas Day (she & her husband were also at SAB on Christmas Eve), I am qualified to reply to this review. On rare occasions, we encounter difficult people who are very demanding, unrealistic, or not willing to follow basic required guidelines on rabbit care when fostering or adopting a bunny. This is a perfect example. Caitlin was willing to foster, but after taking the bunny home on Christmas Day she called the very NEXT MORNING and wanted to bring her back. More specifically, she wanted someone from SaveABunny to come get her. What?! Obviously Caitlin didn't think this through, acted on impulse, and realized only hours after bringing the bunny home that she had made a mistake. Realizing you're not ready for a pet is one thing. But unfortunately, despite everyone's best attempts (including mine), this person and her husband became hostile and argumentative and ultimately turned to personal attacks on Yelp. Bottomline is, some people just aren't fit to have pets. And if you want to hate on SAB for not just handing over a bunny to a stranger - a bunny we have invested in emotionally and financially - then we're definitely guilty of being elitist. Guilty of having too many filters in our adoption process. Is that a shame? These are living, breathing, animals with feelings that we're talking about here. Animals that have been rescued from being euthanized due to human neglect once already. Being a pet guardian is not an equal opportunity endeavor. Sorry. It just isn't. That being said, SaveABunny is always willing to work with a variety folks who have different levels of rabbit care experience. Marcy, and the volunteers here at SaveABunny, actually go to great lengths to match people with the right bunny and provide the right experience. Some bunnies require more care than others. These bunnies go to homes with a lot of bunny experience. Some bunnies are very easy going and healthy and therefore we feel comfortable recommending them to first time bunny guardians. We are even willing to and encourage fostering a bunny for a month or two. This is a great way to get to know a bunny's personality and decide if he or she is right for you. Or if you are right for them! A bunny is a 10+ year commitment that we never want someone to take lightly or act spontaneously. Over the last 5 years, I have adopted 3 bunnies from Marcy and SaveABunny and now volunteer on a weekly, sometimes daily basis. I care deeply about the bunnies and SaveABunny. I respect Marcy and her work. It is disconcerting to me when people use Yelp for personal attacks. SaveABunny is not a restaurant or a nail salon or a cab company... we are not selling anything or providing a service. We are rescuing bunnies from being put to death. And while I can see a need for Yelp reviews to provide credibility, I don't see the need to lament about your bad experience with Marcy specifically. Are we a good/credible organization? Do we treat our bunnies well? Are we honest? These are the questions to ask yourself before posting a review. I think it's funny btw how people say, "I admire what they're doing, but..." or "What they are doing is admirable, but..." And then they go on to say we're too picky and not in a hurry to adopt bunnies. So what if we aren't in a hurry? WE HAVE STANDARDS. I trust that people will recognize the motivation behind this person's negative review (and all of the other negative reviews) and focus on all the good work and positive reviews SaveABunny receives. SaveABunny recently received a $25,000 grant from the ASPCA, btw. We were selected from over 35 groups nationally and via a vote by 700 ASPCA employees. Marcy (the one who runs the organization) is too judgmental of potential adopters. Also charged me a higher than advertised adoption fee because of medical expenses (which may have been fine if this was explained upfront) and then asked for an expected donation. Felt obligated to (I could feel them making an assumption of how "good" of a bunny adopter I was based on whether or not I left a donation)- didn't like the way this was handled. So NOT interested in adopting from them ever again. BUT, had an excellent adoption experience at Oakland Animal Shelter (Friends of Oakland SPCA?)! Volunteers were wonderful, helpful, friendly in helping me find my current bunny a friend. Oh, and just fyi, I'm not ignorant on pet adoptions. I actually worked in Adoptions as a counselor for the SF/SPCA for over 4 years and was often given positive feedback from both adopters and supervisors. I also volunteer/ed for many pet rescues over that last 12 years. read more

Yeah, I get that a rabbit isn't the most common pet people have, but once you get one (or four) you become enchanted by their personalties and begin to brag about their litter box skills and how stinking cute they can be. SaveABunny is the place to go to learn all about how to live with a rabbit in your house or apartment and get really educated about your pet before you adopt (why can't people do the same thing with children?). It is also a fun place to volunteer. You can help with gardening, grooming, outreach events and cleaning (which as a princess, I can tell you actually isn't so bad!). They also always have a stash of chocolate lying around for volunteers to eat (a bonus). The best part about this organization is you are helping animals that need homes due to stupid people who were too lame to be responsible pet parents which inevitably puts you in the lottery to not go to hell. I wanted to respond to the people who have given SaveABunny less than stellar reviews. I took the plunge and became a regular volunteer about 6 months ago. I have personally screened potential adopters, as well as answered the phone regularly. As a volunteer it is not an easy job. People have the misconception that rabbits are easy pets; that rabbits are good pets for kid (not necessarily so), and that rabbits will not chew, dig, or can be trained out of normal rabbit behavior. I have the job of educating people. What people do not realize is we get calls every day that are really terrible. Here are some of the situations I have had to deal with recently: -a man who called because their 3 year old just killed their baby bunny and they want to get another bunny -a person who called because their rabbits tail fell off (not I am not making this up) and was wondering if maybe they should take them to the vet - the best one is a the lady whose rabbit became paralyzed and its entire back leg was being EATEN BY MAGGOTS but she did not want to take him to the vet because it was a weekend and the vet cost more on the weekend. Now we also get wonderful phone calls and almost all of the potential adopters we speak with are wonderful, caring people who want to get an addition to their family. But we are only human. Maybe that week we had a return of a bunny that was previously adopted but returned because the person's new boyfriend didn't like the bunny. Maybe you want to put your bunny outside on your balcony, even though we just spent 10 minutes explaining that rabbits can die of fright or be carried of by birds and since you live in an area with hawks that the balcony would be a death sentence for the rabbit. We try our hardest to be objective but obviously do not always succeed. We are a non-profit privately owned shelter that is run totally on donations and by volunteers. Unfortunately part of being a non-profit is having to ask for donations. If you did not want to or were not willing to donate a simple no is acceptable without damaging your chances of adopting. We do all of this for the rabbits and do have stringent guideline for adoptions for many reasons, which maybe come across as judgmental (not our intention). We are just trying to ensure the happiness and well being of the bunnies in our care. As long as you adopt a rabbit from a shelter, any shelter and not a pet store we will be happy. read more

A commendable cause, a disastrous experience. Met the bunny we hoped to adopt twice. Understand the care and costs involved. YES! we say, will adopt him. Completed documentation, followed up with phone calls. Were waiting for a call that we could go pick him up. Nearly two weeks pass since our initial visit. No response. Learn today via their FB page that another couple adopted him. My daughter is devastated. Yes, there are other bunnies, but I wouldn't want to work with Save A Bunny in the future. The gentleman who facilitated our 'meet and greet' was knowledgable and helpful. But I was warned that others within the organization can be imposing and fanatic. Be weary of that. The Save A Bunny folks knew a little girl was waiting to bring home 'her' bunny. Yet didn't even call with a heads up that it would never happen. read more

SaveABunny is a wonderful organization. We had no problems getting in contact with SaveABunny, but please keep in mind that SaveABunny is operated by volunteers. It might be harder to contact than a pet store, but adopting a companion from SaveABunny is much better. At SaveABunny, all of the rabbits get the medjcal care necessary to make them adoptable, and are socialized (If you have the time, check out SaveABunny on Facebook). Pet Stores often buy their rabbits from breeders, and you never know if the rabbits were treated correctly, socialized, or if they are sick. The SaveABunny headquarters is located in Mill Valley, but the oragnization also has a community of foster homes and Andy's Pet Shop, a store located in San Jose that houses animals that are in non-profit Organizations such as SaveABunny. I live in the South Bay, and In February I adopted a rabbit named Ramon. We initially went to Andy's Pet Shop to see Pietro, *whom I believe is still up for adoption*, but as we looked around at all the wiggling noses, we saw a grey ball of fur sitting in his hay box, and we instantly fell in love. That day, we put in an application for Ramon. We were contacted around 3-4 days later, and that Saturday we went to go and see if Ramon liked us as well. I sat in the x-pen with him and I felt a connection- he was shy, but as he became more open to the idea of me being his human, he mustered up the courage to bite my shoe. Trust me, he *is* a darling. We bought all of the necessary things needed to properly house a rabbit (carrier, litter box, non-wood shaving litter, hay, water bowl and food bowl, toys, etc), and we decided that the volunteer could drop of Ramon that day. Unfortunately she had car troubles, and couldn't make it, so we decided Sunday would be the next best day. When the volunteer arrived, she brought Ramon straight to the room where he was going to be housed and let him scope out his surroundings. He was still shy, but that was to be expected. The volunteer was very descriptive with what to do and what not to do, showed us how to trim rabbit nails, and checked the room to see if it was rabbit proof. Note: I had been doing research for about half a year about rabbits, and although the volunteer will give advice and such, I advise any first time prospective rabbit owners to do some research. We then began to sign the adoption papers- the cost to adopt is around $80, but they also ask for donations- SaveABunny is a non-profit organization, and all donations go to saving more rabbits and the care of their current residents. Marcy has her heart and soul in the organization she started some 13 years ago. Nestled in a cozy home in Mill Valley, this no-kill bunny rescue is run by a tireless few who keep things spotless and clean and make sure bunnies to the homes they deserve. I visited here for the first time on December 31st and left with a wonderful little 14 month old bunny named Oliver Soul. I never thought a bunny would make a great pet until recently and now I'm hooked! We visited save a bunny about a year ago hoping to adopt a bunny as our own. Instead we found that we were herded about the center and were a little surprised to see bunnies in tiny cages with droppings everywhere while also being told that bunnies should be "free roam" or in large enclosures. Instead of really being proactive, we were told that there was only one adoptable bunny fir us, that this bunny "maybe had medical issues but they weren't sure" and we would have to come back in maybe a few days to find out. We were initially told prior to our visit to come prepared and that we very likely would take a bunny home that day. It was disappointing to find out that not only would we not take a bunny home that day (after driving about 2 hours), but that we would need to come back in the middle of the week on a weekday (we work and have kids in school, but apparently that makes no difference to save a bunny) to come back to "maybe" take the only bunny we were allowed to a adopt that day. The owner said she would call us later that week and she never did which helped me realize that she had no intention of allowing us to adopt and didn't want to held accountable for her decision. I feel that we were treated in a discriminatory manner perhaps due to skin color, perhaps due to the fact that we have three school-age kids, perhaps because the owner just doesn't like south Asian families. This was, frankly put, a microaggression, particularly in light of the many positive reviews. Regardless we were able to add a bunny to our family soon after (a beautiful Holland lop who is turning a year soon). Stay away. If you are a person of color good luck adopting from them. And if the person who runs this center happens to respond (which she sometimes seems to for negative reviews), I challenge you to dispute anything that I have put here. read more

Working with SaveABunny, I've had the pleasure of seeing many rabbits find forever homes. The people in this organization really care, and they do a great job saving rabbits, an often under appreciated animal. Plus they throw great parties! And my buns love their cookie treats. :) Update May 12, 2009: Seeing some of the people criticizing SaveABunny in the way that they're doing here hurts, because a lot of people don't realize what a tough thing it is to run a rescue. Some thoughts (from a volunteer): 1) SaveABunny doesn't always respond immediately to everyone because there is SO much to do, and volunteers can be tough to wrangle; there just end up being busier weeks. I know I'm tough to wrangle during periods of heavy works @ school, I can't imagine how difficult it is to wrangle a bunch of people like me! 2) People can be mean to us. Read Marcy's response to person complaining about outreach! I've been to a bunch of outreach and most people we talk to are great, but occasionally there are haters who get off on saying cruel things and trying to make us feel bad. I run into this all the time, people who joke about eating rabbits; I'm not sure where this compulsion comes from but yes, it does make us feel bad. I can't imagine how it is for someone like Marcy and other dedicated volunteers, doing rescue work closer to 24/7. 3) SaveABunny tries hard to find good homes for rescued rabbits, and so naturally we can be cautious about potential homes -- maybe we had a rabbit come back recently. Do we make mistakes? Of course! We're only human! And if we did, and Rabbit Haven or someone else doesn't, then we're still glad in the end that a rabbit found a good home. Anyway... a little patience please? If you have a complaint, emailing us again and even again after that (remember: volunteer staffers!) might be more constructive than a one-star review. I once went with Marcy while she visited a sick and traumatized rabbit at the SF ACC to try to figure out the rabbit's chances for life, and if SaveABunny should invest the time, love and energy for this rabbit -- it was a real lesson for me about the strength, love & compassion that is constantly required to do this kind of work. read more

I submitted an adoption application and did not receive a phone call, so I went and called SaveABunny and person that was on the line said, "I'm helping someone right now, I will call you back in a few minutes." Hanged up and never called back, I have been waiting all day for this phone call, never received a call back. Never responded to my application, like if I didn't qualify for the bunny that I wanted, shouldn't they have at least called and said, "Sorry, we received your application, but you didn't qualify." I understand that you guys are trying to find the right home for the bunnies, but don't you think you are being too much?? People don't go through all this trouble to adopt a bunny if they didn't REALLY want that bunny, for your information, I actually live in FREMONT and it takes me about 3 hours just to go the shelter. I filled out the application on their website last week and I have not received any kind of response from them what so ever even after getting an email about receiving a response from a volunteer soon no one has called or emailed me. I was extremely serious about adopting form them as I found one that a really liked. I was looking around for the perfect rabbit, and finally I found one on oodle.com and got the most adorable bunny ever from a family who had a littler of rabbits and WITHOUT a thorough screening process. I understand that Save A Bunny wants their rabbits to go to good homes. But if they are complaining about being stuck with alot of them they shouldn't be so picky about letting people adopt one or they should at least CALL SOMEONE BACK and say "Thank you for submitting your application we have received it, unfortunately we will not be able to process your adoption request." I'm not sure if i said anything wrong in my application but it would have been nice to at least get some kind of response from them don't you think? otherwise taking more than a week is completely unacceptable, therefore I went somewhere else and i am extremely glad i did! Lucky is my baby and I going to take care of him for as long as he lives. Whose to say I can not adopt one because someone else did not like my application answers and say what they want to hear? :P MY PHONE DOES WORK AND I ANSWER AND RETURN ALL CALLS TO IT. About 8 months ago, my partner and I were yearning for a pet but weren't able to adopt because we sometimes travel internationally and are not committed to a housing situation long-term that would allow pets. We saw SaveABunny at an outreach and were thrilled to learn that they have volunteer and foster opportunities in addition to adoption. Coming home each evening to foster bunnies in my apartment is the best part of my day, every day. Those bunnies are sometimes naughty, but always so adorable in the way they express their personalities, it's impossible not to smile when you look at them. And they only ask for a little love, understanding and patience in return. If you're serious about helping bunnies, SaveABunny is absolutely the place to go. Whether you just think bunnies are nice and can use your marketing background to design a few bunny brochures, or you're buying a house and converting it into the Playbunny Mansion (huge toilet paper rolls? tunnels and slides obstacle course? a carrot garden, obviously.), this shelter and its manager Marcy will take the time to find the right match for you so you and the bunnies get the most benefit out of whatever you can give. I love Marcy & SaveABunny. I've adopted 2 rabbits from them over the last few years. I truly believe in their screening process and back it 100%. Some people think they know how to care for a rabbit but they don't and I trust that Marcy does what's best for the rabbits. SaveABunny does great rescue work and I have nothing but praise for them. These one star reviewers are idiots. Period. I can tell they don't really understand rabbit rescue at all. They just want a pet rabbit. I haven't been back to SaveABunny since 2005 so it's not like I'm actively involved with them everyday to give them a good review. Last week I adopted another rabbit from OAS, which I found through SAB. The collaboration with other shelters is flawless. If someone gets rejected from SAB, chances are there's something wrong with the person or how they plan to "take care" of the rabbit . I am sure these people haven't seen even a quarter of what Marcy has seen some of the most abused rabbits go through. That said, this is one of the BEST rabbit rescues you will ever find. read more

Marcy and her organization are wonderful! A couple of years ago I found a rabbit on the side of the road, bleeding and in bad shape. Luckily after taking her to the vet, she made a full recovery, so we ended up adopting her. A year later we adopted a dutch rabbit as a companion, but were having difficulty bonding them. Rabbits are very territorial and it is can be a difficult process to get them to the point where they are actually able to peacefully live together in the same enclosure (we have them living in x-pens). I was really getting desperate, as bonding rabbits is a very specialized service and I didn't know anyone who would actually offer services to help with that. A couple of months ago someone from the pet store Other Living Things in Sunnyvale recommended Marcy and told me that she actually helps bond rabbits. I called her and set up a time to drop off my rabbits with her for one week. After I picked them up a week later, they were snuggling together and were completely bonded! I was told by some people that if rabbits are bonded in one location, it wouldn't stick if you moved them to another location or brought them back home, but it wasn't true and the rabbits are still happily snuggling and living together to this day. Also, I have a huge amount of respect for Marcy and her organization for the rabbits that they rescue and help. At the time we picked up our rabbits, we attended a fundraiser, which was the 10 yr birthday celebration for one of their special needs bunnies Phoenix, who had no ears because a 16 year old boy had burned them off. He seemed very happy and well cared for. They do wonderful, amazing work at SaveABunny. And I am very grateful to Marcy for her help and the work she does. read more

I have volunteered for SAVEABUNNY and worked with Marcy for years and know that she is passionate about providing the best care and homes for her animals. I am the rabbit advocate for a local shelter and she has rescued many rabbits from us at the 11th hour. She has provided numerous ideas to assist us in lowering our euthanasia numbers. Rabbits are the 3rd most euthanized animal and at least that for the most abused, neglected and abandoned animal. Unfortunately, we at the shelter do not get to choose where a rabbit goes, we can only educate and hope for the best, for those rabbits who are adopted. Rabbits are very social creatures who do best in a home environment with a loving people family. They do not live well outside, they merely survive, and often, not even that. Fortunately, the rescue groups screen the potential family and homes, to ensure that the rabbit goes to a loving home, where it will receive the proper care and housing. Additionally, Marcy, works hard to place the right rabbit(s) in an adopter's home. This means that the initial bunny seen on the website, may not be the best bunny for your home, due to disposition, other pets, children, available time to spend with the rabbit, placement and a whole host of other concerns. Often people look for a pet, due to looks and looks alone. This is not the best way to pick a pet, any pet. Rabbits, more than other animals, pick their own friends and do so at their leisure. Rabbits are like teenage girls, they either like each other on site, or hate each other on site. If they hate each other and are forced to live together, one may kill the other. Due to this, bonding rabbits take time and a special ability to allow the rabbit to choose it's partner. Marcy is the best at this process. We would like nothing better than to not have any rescue groups - because all animals find loving homes from the shelters and abandonment and abuse are issues of the past. But, unfortunately, this is not the case. Marcy often takes the severely abused or neglected rabbits along with the injured, abandoned and death row rabbits. She does this with compassion and concern for the rabbit first. She provides care, love and a piece of herself to each rabbit that passes through her door and anyone who has been to see the rabbits, can feel the warmth generated. Anita, I am not sure what the real story was with you, but also having worked with HRS and Rabbit Haven, I know that they also have guidelines of who they adopt to and I suspect that you were not truthful with Heather, regarding your true intentions for your rabbit. She also, does not just adopt to anyone, but places her animals carefully. All of the rescue groups require the rabbit to be an indoor companion, not an outside rabbit. It is only the shelters who are unable to require that a person provide good care for their companion animal. I encourage everyone to go to your local shelter and talk with the rabbit people and visit the rabbits in the shelter. Visit SaveABunny and you will feel the difference. Marcy makes tough decisions for her rescue group, and for her bunnies, who cannot speak for themselves. It is the same decisions that I wish we, at the shelter, could make. I adopted my second bunny, Moe, from SAB about a year ago. Marcy and Joanne were so very helpful in bonding the boys, which can sometimes be a scary process since buns can be really nasty to eachother. I was able to leave the boys there a couple of nights to make sure they would be alright together. Now Moe is Jack's favorite thing in the world and his better pair of eyes (Jack is almost blind). read more

SaveABunny is an absolutely outstanding organization and Marcy is incredible in her dedication to rescuing rabbits that would otherwise be euthanized, sometimes because they have health issues or are more difficult to place, but more often simply because their time has run out at other shelters or other shelters don't have enough space. She understands rabbits on a deeper level than I would have thought possible, and she has helped me and my boyfriend learn to be better bunny parents. My first rabbit was purchased from a pet store, before I realized that there are shelter rabbits that need rescuing just like cats and dogs. When he passed away a couple of years ago, we went to SaveABunny and, after spending several hours meeting a number of different rabbits, picked out a bunny that Marcy warned us would be a challenge -- he had been neglected by his original owner and was very skittish and distant due to lack of socialization. But after several months of patience and love, he relaxed and opened up in a way that was so rewarding, it was completely worth it. After a year and a half, he has gotten so playful and friendly that we decided he needed a friend, so went back to SaveABunny and Marcy helped us match him with a beautiful little girl. We left them with her for two nights of bonding before bringing them home, and so far they are doing remarkably well together. Marcy is wonderful beyond words and she and the other volunteers are truly doing exceptional work. My husband and I were at SaveABunny today to meet a bunny that we filled out an application for. Btw, we filled out the application online Friday night and received a call Saturday morning asking when we would like to come meet the bunny we were interested in! Very speedy response and very pleasant to talk to. We have never had a rabbit before but we did our research before going. Marcy explained that rabbit body language is vastly different from feline or canine body language and told us what various behaviors meant. Very helpful! We got to meet Otter and totally fell in love. He's such a sweet, loving, friendly and playful boy! Everything we could have ever wanted in a bunny! Marcy is very knowledgeable and really pours her whole heart and soul into rescue work. The thorough screening process is proof that she really wants these rabbits to go to the best, most responsible homes. Marcy gave us plenty of information and asked us questions. She asked if we had any questions (and we did). She really is a fountain of knowledge. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the facility and how happy and well cared for every rabbit was. We were absolutely thrilled with Otter and learned how to pick up and hold a rabbit correctly (something we have never done before). I learned a little more about proper diet and grooming. We really appreciate her taking the time to explain everything and show us what having a rabbit as a companion animal really entailed. They also sell treats, toys, and accessories for rabbits and if you're adopting a bunny from them, I strongly encourage you to pick up a few things there. In particular, I highly recommend the edible willow ball. Otter LOVES his! And the money goes to a very noble and worthy cause, of course. We weren't 'pushed' to make a donation like other people claim they were. It was never even brought up or suggested. We will however, be going back to volunteer once or twice a month when we can (we live an hour away). I can't imagine how angry and hateful some people must be to bash and talk trash on a kind and caring woman who spend her life looking out for the welfare of sweet bunnies who would be euthanized in most shelters. Marcy, thank you so much for your help and for entrusting Otter to us. He is such an amazing rabbit and very much a part of our family already. My husband and I took our little rabbit here to get bonded with another bunny of his choice.
