I've been fortunate enough to hear their founder, Marcy Schaaf, speak at a several events. She's very knowledgeable and compassionate about many aspects of rabbit care, health and behavior. People do not realize that bunnies are the 3rd most commonly euthanized furry friends in the shelters - and the reason is that most shelters have few spots for all the bunnies that come in so if they are not quickly adopted or rescued by such rescues as SaveABunny they have no chance of getting out. I have worked with fostering a number of bunnies for SaveABunny and the experience has been excellent - I highly recommend fostering for anyone considering adopting a bunny on a permanent basis in the future - it allows you to meet different bunnies, learn about bunny behavior and needs and understand that a bunny - like a dog or cat - is a big commitment. SaveABunny has really comitted people looking for the "right" home and match for every bunny that comes thru their doors - if you work with them for fostering a needy bunny or for adopting one - you cannot go wrong with their knowledge of what is a good match and experience to get you started to having a good relationship with your bunny. I was there being matched / looking at rabbits at the same time as the previous poster. Despite this and being extremely busy that day with other things, they allowed me to stay there from 12:30-5pm meeting 10 or so bunnies and meeting a few a second time. They were very thorough and yes, critical, of ppl adopting or fostering; this was very much appreciated! It's good to know they care about the welfare of their rabbits rather than just trying to get rid of the rabbits and making space. I've been to humane societies and shelters where they do not spend much time, if any, making the perfect match. SaveABunny shines on this; I ended up with the first two bunnies they chose for me to meet even though they were NOT what I wanted when I walked in (pls don't tell my bunnies!). As for the charges and asking for donations, they are very upfront and do not hide the costs. If a bunny needs extra care than normal, they will tell you. Anything that runs on donations will usually ask for some but no one there was ever pushy. I did end up donating but it was more like paying for their great service - helping a first time owner through the ins and out of owning a bunny. Hope I don't see mailings every few months asking for a donation though! One minor negative is the general vibe that ppl there are the animal activists type versus regular animal lovers. Actually, I feel this is the case for many rabbit owners/lovers. That said, no one asked of my personal beliefs/practices, imposed their views, or tried to convert me into eating only rabbit food =). read more

I have had the immense pleasure of meeting Marcy Schaaf over a year ago and adopting my wonderful pet rabbit, named Mr. Biscuits, who is now my best little buddy. I absolutely adore him! What I love about Marcy is that she is so invested in the happiness of these animals, and she does an amazing job of matching a rabbit's personality with its new owner. I have grown up with pets all of my life, but I have never met an animal as loving, intelligent, and hilarious as the handsome bunny Marcy matched me with. Marcy is also available whenever I have questions that may come up about my rabbit. She is a very busy woman, but she really does her best to answer emails and phone calls. She is extremely knowledgeable and I love coming to visit her and the bunnies whenever I can, as it is always a very calm, healing, and fun place to be in! What I ask of potential adopters who come to Save A Bunny is to keep an open mind and not judge a rabbit by his or her looks. It is really about the connection and bond that you will build with these wonderful animals, who are all beautiful inside and out. I brought Chip to SaveABunny on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017 at 4:30 P.M. for his bonding appointment. Upon arrival, we heard volunteers & Marcy, the founder of SaveABunny, comment on our late appointment. I live in San Francisco & my shift did not end until 3:00 P.M. The volunteer, Heather, who reserved my appointment was very accommodating & offered a 4:30 P.M. time slot allowing sufficient travel time. Marcy explained a bonding session is a long process & mentioned Heather should not have reserved a time this late. At this point I did not feel very welcomed, but went ahead to look at the available rabbits in hopes of finding a suitable companion for Chip. In my adoption form online, I was interested in smaller rabbits & specifically Meyer, however, he was adopted already by a volunteer. My current living situation was best suitable for two small rabbits & mentioned my interest in Vermeer & Boy George. Marcy did state it may be difficult to bond two males, but did not further explain why Vermeer & Boy George were not suitable as other male rabbits were bonded before. She kept stating it is Chip's decision not yours! I understand it is ultimately up to Chip to choose his own companion & I would never force him to live with a rabbit he did not bond with. All I wanted was to try with Vermeer & Boy George as their size would be most comfortable in my living situation. If Marcy properly advised & explained as a professional why they would not bond, I would not have questioned her choice of other rabbits. I also heard a volunteer mention Boy George as a possible candidate & Marcy said we can try. Marcy noticed Chip was a breeder rabbit & was judgmental towards this. I wasn't aware of rescue shelters specifically for rabbits until I did more research online. My first thought of adoption were for dogs & cats without knowledge of rabbit rescues. Marcy mentioned concerns of Chip's teeth as Netherland Dwarves have severe teeth problems due to breeding & I commented on information I had researched. Marcy was quick to say I was wrong & questioned my research. I appreciate her input as a professional, however, she was condescending even when I mentioned I was planning on taking him to a vet for a yearly check-up. She attempted to bond Chip with Tuli (F) & Spark Plug (M) which were not compatible for Chip. At this time, my sister was bitten by Alfalfa & Marcy disregarded her comment twice. Chip then met Lille Skut (F) & bonding seemed to be moving forward rather well. We observed & waited for about an hour & I did not request to see other rabbits after as they were bonding well. Marcy then said she wanted me to see what a fight & bad bond would be. I did not know what to expect & was rather confused. She took Lille Skut out & placed who I believe is Lucille from their website. In almost an instant, Lucille flung Chip to the pen & scratched off four patches of fur. I did not see any fur from Lucille. Marcy quickly separated them as Chip attempted to attack in defense. Marcy placed Lille Skut back in the pen with Chip to show the contrast & I definitely noticed, but a video would have sufficed. She stated after this could severely injure rabbits which led me to question why she would allow this to happen. At this point, I did not realize Chip was injured until the following evening when I was spending time with him & noticed a scab on his cheek along with a bald spot. I quickly made an appointment with the veterinarian at All Pet's Hospital & took the first available time slot. Thankfully, it was not infected, but instead had minor irritation. Dr. Bar said Chip's skin was scratched off & it was rather deep, but only has to receive antibiotics for a week. She mentioned it is odd Marcy would allow this to happen or even deliberately want to show me a bad bond as a professional. Overall, Chip has a clean bill of health & his teeth are short & straight. I had multiple email exchanges with Marcy despite her request to contact her by phone as emails are easily "misinterpreted." I wanted a record of every statement she made & I have posted our email threads below along with Chip's injury. I did not ask for compensation & only wanted her to acknowledge as a professional to not display a bad bond this way as it could severely injure future rabbits. Marcy was quick to defend herself & flip the situation on me. Her apology was insincere & turned to say I wanted this. She was only doing what I wanted despite her "recommendations." This is far from what I wanted. Marcy was quick to say Chip is aggressive, but he is not. He is a dominant rabbit & only reacted "aggressively" because he was placed in a terrible situation. Dr. Bar said Chip was extremely friendly for a rabbit & well socialized. Overall, I will not be returning or recommending SaveABunny for adoption or bonding. The volunteers are friendly, however, potential adopters should take into consideration the other negative reviews on Marcy as an unreliable professional. read more

My boyfriend and I adopted a handsome black lionhead bunny (originally Omar, now Lars Leonard Omar) from Marcy a few weeks ago. We were really impressed with the whole adoption process. We met 8 different rabbits and took the time to get to know each of their personalities. During the matching process Marcy gave us the whole run-down on rabbit care and psychology. It was very informative (even for a second-time rabbit owner) and she was straight-forward in stating that Omar/Lars was the best match for us. We agreed! Overall really happy with the adoption. We took a couple days to consider and did not feel rushed into making it. We were provided with a discount coupon to Pet Food Express (conveniently a few blocks from where we live) which helped us get started with supplies. We ended up with a very sweet, healthy, and clever bunny. He has great hair, too! read more

I just adopted a beautiful bunny from SaveABunny, and the entire experience and staff were fantastic. Not only does Marcy, the founder, have a wealth of knowledge and experience with rabbits, she also has an incredible instinct and intuition about them. She honestly loves each and every bun, and her primary goal is to responsibly adopt about bunnies to responsible, loving homes. Adopting a rabbit is committing ten years of your life to vet care, responsible companionship, cleaning, rabbit proofing, entertaining, etc., so Marcy takes her job seriously and adopts bunnies to homes she believes will provide great care for them. If she didn't, those bunnies would just end up back in the system again. Marcy has the biggest heart and focuses on special needs and especially traumatized bunnies. She and her team work miracles by saving and rehabilitating the neediest buns; I call her the bunny whisperer! My experience: Marcy spent a lot of time with me gauging my knowledge of bunnies and willingness to learn and be a responsible pet owner. Over the course of two to three weeks, she spent about four hours matching me with the right rabbit, and then she spent an additional ten hours (at least) helping me bond my rabbit with another. She is patient and knowledgeable but also a busy lady! She taught me a lot about bonding, so I was able to do some of it while she worked with other potential adopters. My experience at SaveABunny was wonderful. I learned so much from Marcy, and I really enjoy just being at the rescue and spending time with all the bunnies! Everything is clean, well maintained, and organized -- I can tell all the bunnies feel safe and peaceful here. I'm so happy to have adopted my bunny from such a wonderful place! You would think that a rabbit rescue agency would be interested in adopting out the bunnies they save. Well, don't look at SaveABunny because they are so particular, and if you don't say the correct things, or have a rabbit who you're trying to pair with, you can kiss off your chances of finding a rabbit at this place. They have rabbits on their website that they have had for almost a year. Doesn't seem as though they are that much in a hurry to adopt their rabbits, now does it? After being nixed by this so called "rescue" agency, we adopted a rabbit from Rabbit Haven in Santa Cruz. At one of the adopting fairs that Rabbit Haven goes to, the director, Heather, helped us match up our rabbit with his soul mate. Our rabbit is a very, very happy bunny and so is his mate! Suzi H: I can understand your need to defend this rescue agency since you work/volunteer there. However, and I am not alone in this opinion, but your agency is *overly critical* with regard to potential rabbit parents as I have stated. As for truthfulness, our rabbit was physically present when Heather, from Rabbit Haven, paired him up with his soul mate; so, I don't know where your perception of not being completely truthful comes into play here. Hands down, Rabbit Haven is the place to adopt rabbits for us. Heather cares about rabbits and so does her staff and you're right their screenings are selective, but not so critically so much that you don't want to deal with them. AT first I resisted reporting to Yelp, because this is a rescue operation, but then I thought that I had a duty to report what I experienced I would advise you scroll down and look at the other negative reviews. I did give this place 3 stars since I love animals and have adopted a dog of my own. But honestly So much trouble to adopt a rabbit? I understand marcy really cares about her animals, Im happy for that. But it seemed she was more interested in me deleting my "bad" review (about not getting a call back) then helping save a bunny. "You cannot get a rabbit as a gift!" Its going to be under my posession for my boyfriend ( we live together)? How does that make a difference? Then there was the issue if i live with my parents or by myself.? & asking my parents if i can have one? Im 20 years old. If you're not serious about adopting a rabbit, you shouldn't come to Save A Bunny. That said, if you're not serious about adopting a rabbit, PLEASE don't adopt one. Save A Bunny is an amazing rescue that is doing great things for homeless, abandoned, and mistreated rabbits from all over. Let's keep it real- I'd read some of the negative reviews about the selective and intense adoption process that Save A Bunny requires of its potential adopters, and was a little apprehensive. No one likes to feel like saving a bunny's life and bringing them into their home should be more trouble than it is a good deed. But our experience has been nothing like that. For months, my boyfriend and I had been searching for the right female bunny to bond with our bunny Ted. We have visited HRS (we're members), The Rabbit Haven, Humane Societies all over the bay area, shelters, rescues, and adoption shows. While these organizations are fantastic, we found that Marcy's understanding of rabbits and her style of taking care of business suited our needs to a T. We didn't feel pressure or guilt like we had with other places, where you literally feel like bunnies are being shoved in your arms and told to go home with you without ensuring he/she is the right match. Marcy sat down with us and spent an entire day (literally, from 1-5 pm) helping us find the right match for our bunny, as well as paying attention to what my boyfriend and I were looking for in a rabbit. While she warned us not to be "lopists" (haha) by setting our sights only on lops like our Ted, she also brought out the female lops that were available. Turns out, they were bad matches for our lop! We asked her to go with her gut and she picked out a beautiful, sweet mini-rex girl. They got along fabulously and, while we are just starting the bonding process, it looks like a bright future for us, for Ted, and especially for our new precious little girl bunny. Fees. We paid $160, which includes the adoption fee ($85) and the bonding boarding for 3 days ($25 a day), which they recommend they handle since they can recognize certain signs and also provide a neutral territory for the bunnies to get acquainted. We were grateful for this, and don't think it's unreasonable. It gave us extra time to prepare at home. Final notes. Rabbit people can be weird. Rabbit rescue people can be pushy. Marcy is neither of these. We set out to find the right bunny and told Marcy up front that we wanted to be 110% sure we'd picked the right one. She gets it, and that's why Save a Bunny gets our 5 stars! read more

So I will admit to being confused as to why anyone would refer to SaveABunny as a "so-called 'rescue' agency." They rescue rabbits. From shelters. Before they are euthanised I have seen said rabbits with my own eyes. In fact, I have cleaned their litter boxes, changed their water and fed them hay. Let me tell you, those are some clean, well loved and impeccably cared for rabbits. Those who have been physically abused or neglected receive the highest, around the clock medical care possible. And those who have been emotionally damaged receive a calm and patient environment in which to heal. Isn't that what an animal recue organization does? Drawing the conclusion that because some bunnies remain at SaveABunny for over a year means that SaveABunny is not interested in adopting out their rabbits is just as logical as drawing the conclusion that because I am 35 and single, I am not interested in getting married. Just as I have not yet found the right guy for me (okay, I have but we're not married yet), we have not yet found the best forever homes for some of our buns. Adopting a rabbit is making an 8-12 year commitment. If you are put off by an in depth screening process, then why should we believe that you will be a committed and competent bunny guardian? Heck we all know marriages that haven't lasted as long as 8-12 years, and I am guessing the couple went through a pretty rigorous dating process. And if you still have doubts about SaveABunny's desire to re-home their rabbits, check out the Happy Endings section of the website and you can see all of the happy buns who have found forever homes. Seriously, SaveABunny is a completely volunteer run, privately funded organization dedicated not only to saving rabbits who have been abused, abandoned, and neglected, but also to guaranteeing that a bunny who has not had a fair or good life gets the best possible future, even if that involves a longer stint at our foster center or in a foster home. We are an up-to-date educational resource for all bunny parents regardless of if they adopted from us or not. SaveABunny encourages a sense of community and often teams with other animal rescue groups to promote the welfare of all abandoned animals. Further, we take our rabbits to visit schools, work with the Girl Scouts, participate in the Blind Baby Beeper Egg hunt and visit homes for mentally impaired adults. we love save a bunny! our lil bunny, baskin, has been boarded there twice and each time we've had no problems with them. they are truly passionate about rabbits and they have a ton of em too! they are a shelter foremost and they house rabbits that have been abandoned or ones that need to be rescued. you can check out the various rescue stories they have on their site. for boarding a rabbit, we were apprehensive at first but after meeting both marcy (the owner) and joann (a volunteer) we felt very comfortable with leaving baskin there. baskin, who is normally quite jumpy, was totally at ease w/ joann and right then we knew that she would be fine there. she was given fresh veggies and hay everyday and a spacious x-pen to roam around in. baskin also got plenty of play time so that she could be the rambunctious lil rabbit that she is. they also have other services like adoption and bunny bonding that we'll look into one day. and for you peeps who have cute, fat lil bunnies, they have bunny boot camp to get your bunny into shape! highly recommended! read more

We are so happy and grateful that we found out about sav a bun! We had been trying to find another rabbit for ours for awhile. We just knew that we had a giant rabbit but wasn't sure of the breed exactly until we finally got to meet the wonderful and caring people at the bun rescue! They are so caring and had so much more information on how to care of our rabbit! We found out that our giant was a Flemish breed and we were able to adopt another Flemish from them! Now our Bella has a companion! They were really fun to talk to and really care about the rabbits and their health and safety! We enjoyed seeing all the other different breeds of rabbits that are awaiting adoption. Thank you for doing what you do and saving these bunnies! You guys are awesome and do a great job! My husband and I found a boyfriend for Lashes from Save A Bunny. Someone referred Marcy as the bunny whisperer, and she lived up to her nickname. Marcy and her volunteer staff were extremely knowledgeable. While the adoption process was very easy for us because Lashes basically picked out her own partner, there is a very thorough screening process. Marcy said so herself that she is very protective of her rabbits. Small dwarf rabbits get a lot of attention, but Marcy is very adamant about not placing them with families the small children. Dwarf rabbits are more nervous by nature and has higher risk of getting physically injured. One negative experience was that Marcy tried to convince us very hard to donate $25 for each night that the rabbits stay at her house while she kept an eye on their bonding progress. (She thought they would need to stay for 3 nights) While we believe in the organization's cause, it's not fun to be pushed into something like that. We purchased $80 worth of supplies from her for now and we will definitely keep her in mind next time we are making charitable contributions. Overall, I highly recommend going to Save A Bunny if you are thinking of adopting a rabbit. It seems like tthere are 50-75 rabbits at any given time to choose from. Even if you don't end up adopting from here, Marcy is very insightful. read more

6 years ago I was rescued by my neighbors discarded Easter bunny. I contact Saveabunny and had him neutered per the conversation and a few weeks later went to their site where my Sidney met his girl Annabelle. Marcy was so helpful in bonding them and I learned so much. Fast forward almost 6 years and they have a third bunny in the mix. I recently adopted a cute little guy, Pilot, and I am absolutely in love with him! Marcy at saveabunny is incredibly amazing and knowledgable. She made me feel comfortable and secure in making my decision to adopt from saveabunny. At first, I felt overwhelmed and was not sure where to adopt from. I took my time to do some research, and looked at other avenues for adoption as well. The reason I came back to saveabunny to adopt was not only because of Pilot, but because of Marcy. This is a fabulous organization. It is fun to volunteer at (and they always need volunteers btw) and it is DEFINITELY the place to go if you're considering a rabbit. I really like Marcy of SaveABunny, as she does not sugar-coat details. She only adopts to people who she is sure can afford the rabbit care and maintain its health. I have two rabbits from SaveABunny - one was pulled from the euthanasia list at the Watsonville Shelter and the other was saved from euthanasia at the ACC in Marin County. Both were dubbed unadoptable, but Marcy saved them, and here they are three years later! If you adopt or even just volunteer with SaveABunny, you really ARE saving a bunny! I have never met someone as dedicated and sincerely passionate as Marcy and for that - along with the fact that my two lovely house rabbits wouldn't be around if it weren't for her - I am forever grateful of what she does. She's also quick to respond to emails, answering anything from general questions to medical information to reporting the abuse/neglect of rabbits in the bay area. Joanne is also very helpful. Going to SaveABunny is always fun, thanks to Joanne and Marcy - and you're guaranteed to learn A LOT about rabbit care, behavior, health, etc. I recommend SaveABunny to ANYONE interested in so much as learning more about rabbits, anyone entertaining the possibility of adopting, anyone looking to foster long-term or temporarily, or anyone who simply wants to walk around a surprisingly massive room full of little bunnies and go, "AWWW!" What a wonderful place! It was so obvious that all of the bunnies are loved and got top notch care. The people there also "knew" the bunnies. Each had a card on the cage that showed what their habits and personalities were about. You could tell they had gotten to really know and love each bunny. I found the perfect bunny by buddy dating for my bunny here! They were VERY helpful! I know bonding can be difficult or relatively easy depending on what bunny is paired up. The manager listened to what I needed in a bunny, (bigger, older) but also what my bunny would most likely bond with. I was careful to not get attached to one bunny and let the experts see the signs for the best possible match. I am so glad I did because the manager could read the signs right away and even things I thought might work, she knew may be challenging in a short amount of time, and she was always absolutely right on. The very first bunny she thought would work worked. I know it may not always be that easy, but I was so happy to have someone who could read bunny body language so well and so quickly We did try more bunnies, but the managers first choice ended up working out the best. Not only that, I was a bit anxious when new bunnies would be introduced with my bunny, but the manager knew just what to say, and was so helpful in keeping me calm, which helped keep the bunnies calm. Having fostered bunnies from SaveABunny, I have nothing but good things to say about this organization. I was terrified when Marcy, the founder, handed me a huge black and white aggressive bunny named Syrah that needed to be fostered and socialized. For someone that never been around rabbits accept for little lops, I was way out of my league. Luckily I took home an amazing little baby gray girl who grew into a sweet rabbit under our care. These days, I'm not so shallow. A couple of weeks ago a picked up the most aggressive rabbit of the bunch and welcomed him into our apartment. After only a couple of days, Borat the bunny proved to be charming, funny and a lot of fun. The moral of the story is, Marcy cares about every single rabbit that comes into her care and wants what is best for all of them regardless of size, color or apparent temperament. Before judging the adoption process, it is important to understand the way which the organization works. SaveABunny does not take bunnies from the public. What happens is that Marcy has to go to a shelter that may have a dozen bunnies that will be euthanized that day, and save only as many cages that are open-- which may only be, and often is, one. The bunnies that come to SaveABunny have most likely already endured traumatizing situations, so it is important to put them in a responsible and loving home. It is an untrue statement to say SaveABunny will reject you "if you don't say the correct things". I'm surprised by the couple of negative reviews and feel like their may have been some other circumstance related to the reviewer's dissatisfaction. SaveABunny is donation driven and volunteer run, and mistakes are bound to happen once in a while. The volunteers here are genuinely good people with a plenty of knowledge to assist you when you when you chose to add a new member to your family. read more

We had a very good experience with SaveABunny. Marcy helped us pick Roni, a sweet lion-head rabbit with soft gray fur. I had a very wonderful and educational experience when went to SaveABunny with my friends last Sunday. Marcy, Lisa and the rest of the Staff and Volunteers really care for the precious bunnys who need a home and it really shows. The Bunny's live in a very clean and extremely well cared for environment, with spacious cages and plenty of healthy food. Marcy was very nice to let us into her rescue and let us spend time with the different rabbits sitting in a pen on the floor with them to see which one would be a good fit for a pet. I thought this was a really great way to get to know a bunny and see if the chemistry was right before making the big decision to adopt. As I mentioned I learned alot as well, such as what Bunny's should and shouldn't eat, that there nails should be clippped once a month and that there teeth will always grow throughout there life so they need to chew safe hard materials so there teeth don't get too long. Marcy and her staff really know there stuff and obviously care very much for there Rabbits. My friend Gabbi adopted a sweetheart of bunny that day named Jimmy Choo and I'm happy to say that he is happy and healthy as ever in her new apartment. He loves to hop around her living room, which of course is safe for bunnies, ie, no cords or anything dangerous for him to get in to and he frequently does Binkis ( A bunny's jump for joy to show that he is happy) as he hops around. I adopted two bunnies (so far) from Marcy and SaveABunny. They really care about who their rabbits go home to and try to match the adopter up with the right rabbit. For folks who think they're walking into a "pet shop" style adoption agency, this is not the place for you. Adopters will be screened to ensure that each rabbit goes to a loving home with folks who know what goes into taking care of a rabbit. Also, rabbits for the most part, are matched by personality to their prospective adopters. This means if you think you are looking for a lop eared bunny, you could go home with a furry lionhead. Fret not, I assure you, that you will be in love with the bunny you take home. When I'm ready for the next love of my life, no doubt, I'll be reconnecting with Marcy, matchmaker extraordinaire. This is my first bunny. My boyfriend and I went to SaveABunny we did our home work online through their websites and other useful information. I was open minded what kind of bunny I will get because for me getting along and having the right personality is more important than other stuff. I was looking in to the lop bunnies but Marcy suggested another type of bunny that might be more suited for my level of experience and how active the bunny is. I first looked at the bunny that Marcy suggested which we got a long wonderfully. Just to make sure I also spend time with the 2 other ones I originally was looking for. At SaveABunny they believe in taking time and not rush people (which I greatly appricate). My boyfriend and I were allow to do same day adoption because we have every thing ready ahead of time such as the housing food and rabbit proofing the house (just to list a few). Also we did our home work and pass their Q&A section just to make sure we understood about some bunny caring guide lines. I am extremly happy with my new bunny Chloe (aka Clover). I would suggest any one that want to get a bunny to come to SaveABunny. (I even got an extra care package for my sister's bunny as reference information) They are doing great work out there! Save a Bunny and it's founder Marcy are amazing. I am a long time rabbit owner and I spent the day at SaveABunny and learned some great things that will benefit my bunnies forever. I learned new health care tips as well as some great systems for making bunny care easier. The shelter is very peaceful and incredibly clean! It's amazing how tidy and lovely it is. The bunnies at SaveABunny are great rabbits. Marcy has a great understanding of their personalities. Very disappointing. I have wanted a rabbit since I was a young girl, and so I researched the best place to adopt one. The saveabunny website was very well done and I found two bunnies that I was interested in. I filled out the application, and indicated that I wanted to see two specific bunnies with very similar markings. I received an Email from Marcy stating that I should go look at the FUR website because they were located in the Sacramento area. I had looked on their website and didn't really see any bunnies that I was interested in, and most had very special needs which I didn't think as a first time bunny owner I should take on. I explained that while they were lovely rabbits on that site, they just weren't what I was looking for. I then received another email stating that the bunnies I had shown interest in from the shelter were high needs and that I should keep an open mind when I adopt. Really? I adopted both of my dogs, but I researched throughly what kind of dogs I wanted before I went in and got them and made sure they would fit into my lifestyle so that I could take care of them properly. I found the exchange rather rude, and very disheartening. I still want to adopt a bunny but I'm not sure if I'm going to do it from there. read more

Marcy, the main person in charge of SaveABunny, is wonderful. My girlfriend and I came to adopt a rabbit and we got to spend 3 hours in a pen with all types of rabbits. Marcy guided us through each breed. She showed us that the personality of a rabbit does not always correlate to its size. She took time to show us what the best diet was for rabbits. She is very knowledgeable, kind, and a great teacher. While I was there that afternoon, Marcy received a call from her friend that there were some bunnies who needed to be save before they became reptile food. Marcy calmly said that she would drive to her friend's location within an hour to help save those bunnies. Marcy is amazing. SaveABunny should be your first place to go to for hands on education; and once you'll get here, you'll see why you would want to adopt a rabbit from here. I went here with a friend who wanted to adopt - she had never owned a rabbit before and was a little unsure of how to handle one and communicate with one. The save-a-bunny staff were helpful and understanding - showing her rabbits that were very forgiving of first-time rabbit owners. The rabbits were all very sweet and full of personality. In the end my friend chose the rabbit that was right for her, and they are very happy together. The first thing I was struck by when I got there was how clean and welcoming the facility is. The rabbits have spacious, clean enclosures with fresh food and water. This sounds like a weird thing to bring up, but I have seen some pretty bad rabbit-cage situations in shelters and pet stores. The animals were relaxed and obviously well-cared for. While I was there the volunteers were buzzing around, cleaning cages, giving medicine to sick bunnies, clipping nails etc. They know each rabbit's name and personality - like they are all family members. We saw some rabbits who were still recovering from previous abuse, and while it was heartwarming to see how they have thrived, it was heart- breaking to see rabbits with missing parts and lame legs. Thus it is easy to understand the scrutiny with which the staff interviews the potential adopters. As a place to adopt, I say YES! But also as a place to support, I say YES! Rescues need funding to take care of their animals, and if you are looking for a place where your donation will go a long way, I would definitely look here because it is clear that the animals come first. read more

Save a Bunny is a wonderful organization, and they are doing a very necessary and very difficult job. I got a wonderful sweet little drawf-lop mix I named Turbo and we are in love. A couple of negative reviewers have their feathers ruffled that they were turned down for adoption (or they know someone who was) and they have the temerity to give a one-star review, which is highly irresponsible. Yes, this is a review site, but get over yourself - there are lives at stake here. Save a Bunny has taken on the responsibility to care for neglected and abandoned bunnies that would otherwise perish in the wild or be euthanized, and they are not about to give one of these refugee bunnies to someone they don't think will have the ability to care for an animal as sweet, mistreated, fragile, and misunderstood as rabbits. In this business, the volunteers at Save a Bunny have to trust their instincts and if you've been denied, you have the freedom to adopt a rabbit somewhere else, but no bunny is going to a potentially neglectful household on their watch - that is their mission. Marcy has given her house, her career, and her life over to save rabbits, which is more than anyone else here can say. She is under tremendous stress to constantly manage the needs of her bunnies, the needs of her organization, and the needs of rabbits about to be euthanized at shelters across the region, not to mention large-scale rabbit rescues like the one recently in San Jose where hundreds of rabbits were found neglected and injured. Bunnies have the misfortune of being novelty pets who are frequently abandoned without being neutered, and the result is an epidemic of unwanted rabbits. These people are doing good work, and hard work. One-star reviewers, take your bile elsewhere. read more
