MY DOG ALMOST DIED LAST FRIDAY FROM THE BACTERIAL PNEUMONIA SHE CONTRACTED AT THIS FACILITY. When I picked her up she was skin and bones and her eye was crusted shut. I'm talking 10 days of eye crust - no effort was made to remove. I thought her eyeball was missing because it was so covered in crust. The worst part about this situation is that I was available to pick her up FOUR days earlier had they alerted me to her declining health. Instead she was so skinny and SICK when I picked her up that she had to be hospitalized for the weekend. I essentially paid $1000 for them to board her to neglect her to now be responsible for a $8k vet bill. BUYER BEWARE. DO NOT SEND YOUR BELOVED PETS TO THIS FACILITY. My dog is now home with a feeding tube and still very ill. read more

So far so good! We've taken our dog Sadie for a few days of daycare gearing up for today, our first day of pet boarding. Sadie has never stayed at a facility vs a sitter home, we are hopeful that this works for her as Grateful Dog is so so convenient next to the freeway and great price points. I did not end up taking my dog here. I wanted to and brought him in for day camp try out. As I walked up to the lobby all I could smell was Dog pee. It was so strong it was shocking. There are pics of our doors so I naturally assumed there was outdoor space to play - this is not the case. I left. The Grateful Dog is a great choice for boarding, especially for those dogs that may not enjoy crating overnight! The location is extremely convenient to all North Bay towns, and while some kennels are difficult to schedule a first temperament test with, the GD came through for me when I was pinched for time and accommodated me with both a temp test and boarding options. I called to see about daycare for my dog, and was surprised and relieved to hear I could just drop her off. I asked Whether there were things I needed to do beforehand, and the attendant offered that I could make a reservation but mentioned nothing else. Upon arrival, while I was on my way to my day's outing, the clerk said she needed a "temp test" and that those were only done on weekdays. We had an amazing experience here! Every Labor Day weekend our family treks from Sacramento to Bodega Bay. We always beat the heat and have a great time surrounded by family and fun! the only bummer is, the house we rent doesn't allow our four legged friends. In the past, we have always hired a house sitter (an 80 year old gentleman) who hangs with our boxer and makes sure he gets his food. But he doesn't get his two walks a day, nor does he get to just be his high- energy self. This year, we decided to look in to boarding him and we are so glad we did!! He went in excited and came out zonked!! He slept the whole drive home and has been just relaxing the last 18 hours! Which is great since we came home to 113 degree heat! We just took our dog to this spot today. I just wanted to let you guys know that they are still open. We've been taking our dog there for several months but now with this shelter in place situation Our dog is going crazy inside the house with no dog to play with and so he is driving us a bit nuts. The owners of the grateful dog to a great job of keeping the dogs entertained and we love that our dog comes home tired. I think people should know they're still open. This is a small business and like many others I'm sure they are struggling. This is a great spot to bring your dog to play with other dogs and just get their energy out. My rescue pup, Darwin, is definitely one grateful dog! We had mixed feelings about our previous doggy daycare and are both so lucky that Ernie opened up a Marin outpost of The Grateful Dog. Being a rescue, Darwin needs time to warm up to new humans and pups, and can also be very protective of his mama. Ernie was patient with Darwin when we went in for the temperament evaluation and allowed him enough time and space to feel comfortable. Darwin has been a semi-regular day camper at TGD since that first visit in June. I have met a few of the handlers and they all inspire a good deal of trust and confidence. Pricing of TGD Marin services are reasonable and on a par with other facilities in the area. Marin Humane has also partnered up with them and now offer a couple of training classes on-site at a great price. One of the main benefits of TGD Marin, unlike our previous service, is that there are no kennels. There is a spacious indoor play area that is connected to the fenced backyard. The front desk/waiting area is spacious and there is a small self-contained office between the front desk and the indoor play area. Everything always looks very clean and well-maintained. Since the dogs are not separated into play groups, it's a wonderful way for Darwin to socialize with pups of all shapes and sizes in a safe environment. Big fan of the Grateful Dog. I've been bringing my labradoodle to their location in San Francisco for about a year and a half. I always enjoyed it and my dog was happy and tired at the end of the day. The new Marin location is truly fantastic, though. It's very large, clean and run by the same faces, all of whom are very knowledgeable and nice. The prices are competitive and you see some serious value from the multi-day packages or the unlimited daycare. The unlimited Mon-Fri package, in particular, comes out to about $25 a day. This is what most dog walkers charge, and that gets you maybe 2 hours of group play, then the dog sits alone at home. Joining was a simple process, folks stay on top of vaccinations, and Ernie and the rest of the team are always super friendly as well as flexible with me on bookings. We are so lucky that Ernie has 2 locations, one conveniently located right off the 101 freeway on my way to work, and one on Lombard St. in San Francisco that is very close to my husband's workplace. I've been a long-time, six-ish year, Grateful Dog client. As a puppy, my little min-pin, Izzy "Squirrel Dust," started going to the SF location. She pretty much grew up there, and I am so thankful to everyone (humans and dogs alike) that became part of her "pack." A couple of years ago, I changed jobs, and because I could work from home, Izzy stayed home with me. While at a dog park last fall, Izzy was attacked by a much larger, aggressive dog and her stomach was ripped apart. It was a very, long road to recovery for Izzy, the trauma she underwent was not only physical, but her temperament changed drastically. It got to a point where I couldn't bring her around certain people or most dogs. I was at my wit's end and then saw that Ernie, the owner of The Grateful Dog, was opening up a 2nd location in Marin. I gave him a call, and he developed a plan with me to re-socialize Izzy to get her back to how she was pre-accident. It was incredibly remarkable. After a couple of weeks with Ernie and his team at the new location, Izzy became her old friendly and flirty self again. I can't thank The Grateful Dog enough. From the very beginning, they have gone beyond my expectations and have brought Izzy and me closer, in many ways, I feel like they brought my dog back to life. Along with other dog owners, I am a huge fan of The Grateful Dog in both Marin and San Francisco. It starts at the top with Ernie who hires the best of the best for dog care and training. As Ernie says "Dogs need Dogs" My German Shepherd, Mia has been to both locations, loves to go in, over excited, never looking back at me. She always comes home tired, but very happy. The Marin play area is large, light, very open, clean, and plenty of room for dogs of all sizes to run and pay. The staff is wonderful, giving care and attention to the dogs, along with taking the dogs on daily walks. They also have a dog trainer! The staff will give medication per your instructions, and feed any requested meals. At night the dogs are not in crates, but with an employee who spends the night with the dogs. The dogs sleep on beds of their choice or blankets on the floor, and many times cuddle up together. The Grateful Dog rates are most competitive, the staff is always happy to take calls and let you know how your dog is doing if your are traveling or out of town. I would call this place a real second home for dogs. The Grateful Dog is a real find for me and definitely a second home for Mia who I adore. read more
