We were a 16 year foster for them and while they mean well they have a single paid employee who is overwhelmed which means not all dogs get the care they deserve. Communication is lacking, they are slow to respond to requests and at times you as a foster are on your own. That makes it hard, because we all want what's best for the dogs but in doing that we let the rescue off the hook and do their job for them which just reinforces what's wrong. Maybe they will get back on track, but we will no longer foster for them. read more

Adopted a call, Golden retriever" from them from a high kill shelter in Northern California. The golden retriever is actually golden and whippet... She was a wonderful dog, and still is today, but at a friends home, he adopted her because she fell in love with her... And she now lives the life of Riley and goes to the beach every day. She is a sweet dog. But they should have told people that this is not a golden retriever. But a mix. And she's got a very long nose and she had a just like a whippet... And runs faster than any dog I've ever seen. But she's an awesome animal... This rescue group should be on top of what they are adopting out and not telling somebody a dog is what it's not. read more

Cooper's Dream was actually a nightmare for us. I visited and met Posideon on Tuesday with the foster. It went well and we have a qualifying application. The foster said we were the only family interested and we were first in line to adopt. Foster promised me she would contact if things change. 2 days later we had an appointment for second interview. That same night we were informed posideon was adopted out from underneath us. As you can imagine this has seriously upset my wife and family. Cooper's Dream is a nightmare for us. We see this as serious unethical adoption practice. This group of people never considered or care about the human factor. For us they are horrible group of people. Be cautious about adopting through Cooper's Dream they are liars and cheated us out of legitimate adoption. read more

After looking for a dog for several months through the Petdar app and being discouraged by other organizations, I came across "Butter" at Copper's Dream. Although they didn't have much behavioral info on the pup, I was quickly put in contact with the foster, Alyce, who was able to provide more information. We set up a meeting and when we got there, the dog immediately ran to my oldest son and rolled over for belly rubs. We played with the puppy and chatted with Alyce an hour or so and she allowed us to adopt him that day. I paid the fees online (which was very convenient) and we were able to take Butter home. The puppy is getting along great, he seems very happy, and we adore him. Copper's Dream is the best thing that's happened to my husband and I since we got married this year. We adopted a little Dachshund mix from Copper's Dream at the Bay Area Pet Fair 2 weeks ago. He came fixed, microchipped, and with all his vaccines up to date. Unfortunately our little pup Fig came home with a cough that turned into something terrible. It was later discovered he had kennel cough (which is pretty common in shelter dogs) which progressed into pneumonia. We were devastated! He would have to be hospitalized if things didn't improve. We had been looking for a dog to adopt for a couple of months and applied and donated to two rescue organizations without luck. Then I found out about Copper's Dream and our search was over! They have a great website with good photos of the dogs. The process is straightforward and explained as well. What is most impressive is how responsive they are, especially with the number of dogs they are managing. I submitted our application and it was approved overnight. Within a few days, we met our first foster candidate. We ended up not getting the first dog due to some differences but that didn't deter us. We met our second foster dog and ended up adopting him immediately. I guess we are "foster failures" also. We are now using a trainer recommended by Copper's Dream and it's working out great. My boyfriend and I were looking for a dog for awhile. We looked at literally every rescue and adoption shelter we could possibly think of in the Bay Area. After taking a look at several dogs, we thought we'd go through Copper's Dream Animal Rescue and see if we'd find our dog. WE DID!!! I was mainly in correspondence with Jennifer and she has been SO VERY helpful and responds daily. All we had to do was fill out an application form online (once) and describe the type of dog we were looking for and what kind of lifestyle we live. She gave us some recommendations and we were immediately in touch with a foster home that was taking care of, then, Juni. Within a week, we went over to meet our future dog and the foster parent and we took him home that same day because he was PERFECT. (we brought our own leash) There's an option of either writing a check or going online to pay, but we wrote our check out. Within 48 hours of paying for the dog, we were sent medical records and any info about our dog via e-mail. He's up to date on shots and was taken cared of very well. Been a fan for many years and Copper's Dream is still doing great work. A couple of months ago I helped my Sister adopted a cute sweet little puppy named Ophelia renamed (Lila). Being a first time dog owner, I normally would not recommend a puppy to be the starter dog. However, her puppy was different. The adoption fair was held at Petfood Express in Campbell. The venue is wonderful. However, the only complaint I have is the event was disorganized. I don't fault the volunteers, but maybe they should get some training so it's not a poor reflection on the Rescue. When we arrived to the event, there were a lot of people congregating already. We all looked at each other unsure of what's going on. The volunteers were setting up inside the play area so we wanted to be respectful and not interrupt them. But soon after, we started realizing some of the puppies have already hav potential adoptors who previously scheduled time to meet them. But for us who just showed up didn't realize that. We approached a few dogs, and the foster parent just told us he/she has been spoken for and may alreay have potential adoptors. After a few of that and still no instructions from the volunteers, it got a bit fraustrating. So some of us just decided to approach the volunteers and ask what's going on? We have a few puppies inside the play area and most are all outside....etc. You can tell the volunteers started to get frazzled. It would really have helped if the volunteers gathered everybodgy for a quick announcement to direct those who have previously arranged a meeting to gather at one area and then those who are here to meet dogs to go to a different part of the play area. This way, people are not all over the place and it is orderly. Because it was such a chaotic scene, I decided to sit in one area while my Sister went to get some instructions. Ophelia's foster decided to sit near me and I had a chance to interact with her. For a 4 mos old puppy, Ophelia was engaging, had full eye contact, and relaxed. It took no time for me to get attached to her. I immediately noticed she is a smart girl. I got her to lay down and stayed for me in just a couple of minutes. I was so taken by her, I wish I could have a 3rd dog. Then my Sister came to me and met Ophelia. I normally would not recommend a first time dog owner to adopt a puppy because puppies need a lot of work, but Ophelia was possible. She is very smart and calm I felt she might be ok. My Sister met a few other dogs and then decided on Ophelia. Because of schedule conflicts, Copper's Dream asked if she can be a foster to adopt until Ophelia can get the spay and vaccinations. We were fine with that. Three months later, she is a staple in the house and everyone just adores her. She is sleeping with my nephews and being loved by everyone. Now that she had all her shots and surgery, it's time for some good citizen doggy training. Lila (Ophelia) is ready and waiting for all the learning and I can't wait for her to be a well trained and respectable doggie. Thank you again Copper's Dream. read more

Do NOT adopt animal through Copper dream or only adopt after getting enough background on the dog! Me and my boyfriend participated in a foster to adopt program, and we met our lovely puppy. However, the way our puppy was treated by Copper Dream is unacceptable. First of all, he was only 2 month old without completing all vaccine (of course), and he was brought out for an adoption event where he was placed with all other dogs on the group with great exposure to virus/bacterias. We decided to foster him that day. However, one day after we fostered him, he was diagnosed to have worm inside and he had a long roundworm in his stool. Couple days later, Copper dream schedule a neuter appointment for him. However, we only came to know that no blood work or health exam was performed prior to neuter operation! When we arrived at the Vet, we were informed that Copper dream never covers blood work or health exam fee for neuter, so they didn't perform it. Even couple days later, he started to have diarrhea with blood in the stool, and we had to put him under expensive treatment. We fostered the puppy and fell in love with him so we decided to adopt him eventually. However, given his health condition, we had been speeding over $1000+ for various treatment, apart from the adoption fee. Insurance is not covering any of those treatment since we are still in the "waiting period" for insurance to be effective. Regardless of the expensive medical bill, I am happy to take care of the puppy since he is clearly NOT been taken good care of at Copper Dream. read more

I was initially enthused when I saw this place. However, after reaching out to the agency several times to schedule visits with potential pups (4 to be exact) I was consistently given the cold shoulder. There is a pup on the website that I have an interest in (still unadopted), and I've asked to view the pup twice. To be told, he's not adopted but likely to be adopted. Which seemed a bit biased and a little concerning. Another pup is under the 3 day foster to adopt program. That was 3 weeks ago, the pup is still on the website as "foster to adopt". Transparency is key in these situations. I understand why folks encourage potential rescues, but after this experience I'm more inclined to deal with a breeder directly who's responsive, courteous and etc. I don't want to give up hope on a rescue, so if you Yelpers have other places that you've had good experiences with .. please let me know. read more

My gosh, Copper's Dream is a beautiful organization. They rely on fosters so they don't have a physical office but you can visit all the dogs available about every 2 weeks at a public event. We adopted my best friend, Mabel, last July 2017. She is an angel and CD had vet appointments made and scheduled for her when we got her. They were open with us, easy to talk to, and even listened when we reviewed a bad vet and told them not to go there. read more

While nursing our broken hearts over the untimely loss of our previous dog to a rattlesnake bite, we decided to give fostering a try. This fantastic organization rescued four cattle dog mix puppies and we decided to take one on for a few days or weeks until he found a home. Jill and Alyce were wonderful and easy to communicate with, and we knew after a few days that Alfie (Alfred) wasn't going anywhere. This is a great rescue organization who really cares about the dogs they adopt. They do their best to give you as much information as they can about the dogs in their care (just one example: when we were inquiring about a couple of the dogs, we were informed that one of them was being treated for kennel cough). They're on top of what they're doing, very communicative and quick to respond. They have many adoption events (seems like I see one on facebook every, single weekend), and you can arrange to meet many of the dogs at their foster home. This group works hard to make sure their dogs are getting good, happy homes! The adoption fees are pretty much on par with what we've seen, and you might have to do some of your own shots and vet visits, but that's pretty much standard with rescues. We got our second rescue from this organization and could not be happier with our new addition! (P.S. Ricky R.'s review is comedic gold and totally off, by the way.) read more

We adopted our beautiful dog (named Suki, previously known as Courtney) from Copper's Dream Animal Rescue. Our experience with Copper's Rescue was the opposite of the negative one-star reviewers. Instead, here is our experience: 1. We contacted Copper's Rescue about meeting various dogs and received an email within an hour. Our contact was Jennifer. 2. After numerous emails with Jennifer where she responded promptly (usually within an hour and sometimes in real time), Jennifer recommended possible dogs that may be a good match. Ultimately, we met Suki. 3. Suki's foster mom clearly had Suki's best interest in mind, yet still pointed out both Suki's strengths and weaknesses. Her foster mom had some concerns about us (I think she thought we were inexperienced). But, Jennifer only cared that we provide a loving home. 4. Although Suki rocked, her foster mom only had her for one week, so we were worried that Suki may have unknown issues (as strange behavior may later manifest, plus with a 9-year old, we wanted to make sure Suki could handle a rambunctious kid). I asked Jennifer if we could foster-to-adopt . Although this was not her preference, she worked with us and gave us this option. She took a chance on us. 5. We took Suki home the following day and, admittedly, we did not receive her medical documents for another day, but Suki's vaccinations were up to date and she was perfectly healthy. Being anal, we took her to the vet for a wellness check. Vets are not cheap. Our vet bill was over $400 (we picked a vet in our Inner Sunset neighborhood rather than an associated vet listed on Copper's Rescue website). In any event, the $400-plus vet bill was for the wellness checkup, micro-chipping, heart-worm testing (Suki had no heart worms), prophylactic heart worm medication (to ensure no heart worms in the future), and flea/tick medication (note, buy this at Costco--much cheaper). I certainly did not expect Copper's Rescue to cover this costs. I much rather they use their funds to rescue more dogs. 6. Jennifer also let me keep Suki's sleeping crate for a few days, gave me Suki's dog food, and offered advice on how to keep Suki from barking during the day (when we left her in the yard because we were worried she'd go potty in the house). Turns out Suki is an indoor dog when home alone. 7. As for Suki: the best dog. So sweet, so loving, so smart. Not destructive, not mean, not aggressive. She also has the most loving hound-dog eyes ever (although she is mostly lab). For us, Copper's Rescue was fabulous. I have to say that the complaints about their nonrefundable adoption fee offend me. One look at Copper's website makes it pretty obvious that they save dogs from high-kill shelters. So you're out a few hundred bucks, but look at the number of dogs they rescue and think about the costs in both time and money that commitment requires from the volunteers. I thank Copper's Rescue for saving our Suki. I can't imagine that she could have been sentenced to death at a shelter simply because they had no room. Instead, thanks to Copper's, Suki is sitting at my feet, periodically looking up at me and wagging her tail as I write this review. Keep up the good work Copper's Rescue. Prior to adopting a dog through this amazing organization, I had heard from a fellow animal lover about them. This lead to "liking" them on Facebook and went right into applying to foster. We picked up Apollo ( then Rex) from Jennifer and brought him home. The communication was wonderful via email and we picked him up on a Monday evening from Jennifer's house. We had the regular 72 hour period to decide if we would want to adopt. I needed a final walk with the pups and husband to talk about it, so they graciously extended the time a bit. It is so clear that Jill and Jennifer want the very best for these pups. They worked with us and we completed the adoption in a timely manner. Rescue dogs are, in my experience, the best dogs. The people at Copper's Dream make sure to fit the right dog with the right home. I have already recommended them to many friends. This is one of the best rescue groups I've seen. We noticed an adoption event not to far from us. We have been looking for a while, we had a really bad experience with rocket dog (please read my review on their page for detail) this rescue group was the complete opposite of the others we had seen....we have been searching for that pup for a while now....and this sunny Saturday we meet nyreen (now nala) she was the sweetest pup around all the other dogs and kids. We took her for little walk but she does this dead weight thing when she doesn't want to go(turns out this poor girls is scared of cars/buses/trucks and most men)(working on those issues and she is doing wonderful with overcoming her fears) . We took her home as a foster to adopt, wanted to take her home let her get comfy with us (my husband, 3 year old son and myself) she was terrified in the car. We took her home and she played and got comfy with my son in the front yard..everything was going great until we tried to get her inside. Took us 5 hours to convince her to come in, I thought it was important for her to do it on her own so she can see that nothing bad will happen. We finally carried her inside since it was getting dark....once inside she looked like a scared shivering chihuahua....:( poor girl so we let her sleep in the garage where she was more comfortable. Long story short it took her 3 days to get comfy and she now roams her house as she pleases.. She's a really good girl and is learning quickly how to play gentle with kids and learn all her manners...she's a big girl so it's hard for her to control that happy wiggly butt. Alyce is who I met initially and she was informative and very friendly with us and all our questions. I then continued communication though Jill who was nothing but prompt, polite, and helpful. The most important thing that we can comment on is that our wonderful new dog is in great shape and that we are so in love with her. Very small issues with the adoption process itself aside, the bottom line is that overall we are so grateful to Copper's Dream for the service that they provide to the community and saving the lives of these wonderful dogs (they are a no-kill rescue). If you're considering getting a new pet, I'd really encourage you to consider adopting from Copper's Dream, especially if you're considering going to a breeder instead. Overall, they are very responsive and the website is extremely up to date. Sometimes they post updates on their Facebook page that reflect their live rescue during the day that are a smidgeon faster than the website, but by the end of the day both equalize. The small issues that we had were that from casual verbal conversation with them it seemed that as fosters of our dog, we would have first priority in adopting. We were somewhat alarmed when we received an email from Copper's Dream two weeks into our foster saying that someone else was slated to adopt her, as we had already begun to get attached, and we were definitely still interested in adopting as we had mentioned to them in person. I was able to talk to the woman interested in adopting - she was very understanding about it, ultimately adopting another dog instead. Whether or not this is the true policy, we were just told that we had first say in whether or not we wanted to adopt her -after- our foster period, so that was our understanding. Had we understood otherwise (for instance, that we were her foster parents but it would be a free-for-all wrt the adoption process), we would have just adopted her on Day 2. Thus, had the woman not been understanding and adopted her anyway, we would have been extremely upset. Overall, small hiccup, and now that we've written about it here, you can avoid this misunderstanding. :) Our dog has brought us a lot of joy and we are so very happy with the new addition to our family. read more

This is a great rescue. First, their site has quite a lot of detailed information about the dogs. That's because each, from what I gather, is living with a foster family. This is advantageous to adopters for a few good reasons. 1. The dog has a chance to acclimate to a human home environment albeit a temporary one. So the transition to your own home may be easier (than coming straight from a shelter atmosphere). 2. This also means the fosters can give you a more accurate assessment of the dog's personality and health because they're spending a fair amount of time together. The foster family we adopted from was very generous with their time and information. We were able to bring our resident dog for a meet and greet. At first, a simple group walk and then some off leash playtime in an enclosed yard. It must have been a solid 30 or so minutes in all. A really low pressure and welcoming experience that gave us a real chance to ask lots of questions and to be certain of our decision to move forward! Plus -- not that it's any incentive but our adoption came with a 20%-off coupon from Pet Food Express which was nice when it came time to purchase new food and supplies. Very satisfied to have worked with this org to find the latest addition to our family, and would definitely recommend them to others who are looking! read more

I'm a foster for Coppers Dream and really love working with the other volunteers and fosters. The dogs have been really sweet and friendly and have gone to good homes. The communication is great, and the effort that's put into getting these pooches loving homes is really something. I'd recommend adopting from them or being a foster. Fostering has been a great way for me to have a dog, but then go out of town and not worry about leaving the dog with friends or having to pay for doggie day care. The dogs come fixed and and microchipped, with leashes and food for a reasonable price. Dont buy from breeders, get your animals from small non-profits like Coppers Dream. read more

This is an awesome rescue. My boyfriend and I spent a couple of months looking for dogs to adopt until we finally found Lefty on Copper's Dream website. We emailed the rescue and they replied within 24 hours explaining what we had to do to rescue the pup we wanted. We adopted Lefty (formerly Phillipe) in February and I couldn't be any happier. We paid a donation fee of $350 (because he was 3 months old) which included neutering him and first vaccination. The lady who was fostering our Lefty was super friendly and she had also started to crate train him!! I received a prompt email from Jill within 24 hours of my application. I was able to meet Bacardi (now Olive) same day from the foster mom at a park and we chatted for about 30 minutes regarding Olive's temperament, habits, etc. She was honest and said that Olive is ALMOST potty trained, but otherwise very well-behaved. I was a bit nervous because she looks like a Jack Russell mix and they can be hyper/aggressive, but Olive is the sweetest, chillest, most loving pup ever and exactly as the foster mom described. I can't believe someone abandoned her at less than a year old. The next day I went to a dog adoption event but didn't click with any of the dogs and kept thinking about Olive, so I went back to the foster and spend a few hours with them and the dog to solidify my decision. My only small gripe was that there was a slight lack of structure for a first-time dog adopter. The foster didn't know much info about the dog's background to share with me and many of these families fostering her only had her for less than a week at a time. For example, I asked if she sheds and they said not much more than a normal dog, but she actually sheds more than many dogs I know (my entire couch is now covered in white short hairs within 2 hours). Not their fault, they've only had her for a few days and I have more black/darker furniture than they do. I'll make sure I groom her, talk to the vet, vacuum, and make it work! But- they're doing great things with fostering these dogs and I truly believe that this organization/their fosters care!!!! So happy with my pup. People say dealing with rescues can be complicated at times, but I found this experience extremely pleasant and rewarding. Over Christmas, we fostered the sweetest little Australian Cattle/ Border Collie mix puppy in the entire world. We named him Saint and he was the most adorable, loving, well-behaved puppy I have ever met. I've been around dogs my entire life (owning a dozen) and I never met one quite like him. It was heartbreaking to say goodbye as we all became attached, but it was time and in the end we knew that as fosters, we were helping him. When/if I foster a dog or dogs again, I would only do so from Copper's. Alyce is so patient and thoughtful and made our experience beyond easy. I love this organization and all that they do.
