Mokey and Hanzo - we got them from Wonder Cat Rescue
    Kristina A.

This is where Aaron V. and I got our lovely kitties, Mokey and Hanzo. Their cats are all listed on petfinder.com, complete with pictures, a description of their personality and any special issues, and details about treatments they've already undergone. They have cats of all ages and a wide variety of breeds, most of which come spayed/neutered, FeLV/FIV tested, FVRCP vaccinated, de-flea'd, de-wormed and microchiped. The minimum donation is $100 for most breeds and is more than worth it. The process was fairly quick and easy, and now we have two incredibly cute, loving, playful, mischievous additions to our home. The staff I contacted by email about the adoption were very helpful, informative, quick to respond, and genuinely concerned about the long-term welfare of their cats. They find out exactly what you're looking for in a cat and encourage you do what's best for a kitten's upbringing to ensure the adoption is permanent. In our case, they suggested that we get two kittens so they can keep each other company and out of trouble, make them more sociable and allow them to play rough with each other instead of humans. Also, they not only allow you to return the cat to them if it doesn't work out for any reason, but require it in the adoption contract. What I really like about this agency is that the cats are given foster homes while waiting for permanent owners to be found, instead of kept in cages. This makes them more well adjusted to people and living in a home. Our sweeties were so friendly when we went to visit them at their foster home that they immediately came up to us, purring and mewing for attention. They were also already trained to use a litter box and scratching post, which took away most of my worry about getting kittens. I'm very pleased with Wonder Cat and would highly recommend them to anyone considering adopting a cat of any age.

Our cat of 6 years (left) and our newly adopted cat, Leo (right)

Our cat at home is 6 years old. Adopted from the local shelter in LA when she was young. She's pretty shy and timid, so we definitely wanted to find a foster organization that would help us through the process of introducing a second cat. The app on petfinder had an old hotmail address, so we didn't hear a response for five days because of the typo. If you contact them make sure it's a GMAIL address. After we cleared up that confusion, they were EXTREMELY PROMPT and ready to hold our hand through the process. Leo had been returned twice! We couldn't believe it. He was playful, friendly, and cute as a button... but apparently was introduced to his newfound friends a little early and caused a lot of stress in the households. Lorin was the best foster mom you could ask for. Her own cats are ridiculously friendly and sweet as well as Leo and his two friends that we met. We couldn't have asked for a better home for him to be brought up in. Those early months are so critical for kittens and it really shows. We met him. Thought about it and then picked him up probably in a day or so. He's been a happy addition to our home since last October. Granted, our own cat is still not a fan, but after a slow introduction (a week behind closed doors!) they do okay. Leo is a perfect cat- so friendly, so playful, and so outgoing. He loves everyone and everything. Greets us at the door when we come home. Takes the abuse from our other cat only to come back in hopes she's changed her mind. Constantly wanting to be with us. He's great. I highly recommend this organization. They do great work and you can tell they really love their animals.

We adopted Lyla and Beatrix a little more than a year ago from WCR. They're beautiful and well trained. The foster parent took very good care and bought them so many toys. She gave the toys to us when we adopt our kitties. WCR is still in contact with us and really make sure our kitties are happy and have found a good home. I highly recommend WCR. Please keep in mind that foster parents from WCR are volunteers and most of them have a full time job so be patient when you email or call and they don't respond back immediately.

SPCA is the best adoption facility in the area. I adopted my sweetest best friend of almost 9 years…read more(adopted her when she was age 19, be in my early/mid 30s. First cat on my life. Always more of a dog person. But I was worried because of her age she might be on a shortlist for something trickier - especially after first coming to animal control and gaining 4 pounds. But we took to each other immediately. And she seemed to be one sweet healthy cat attached at the hip to me, attached to my people, and patient with dogs and cats in the house for sitting. Have been crushed since but thank you ASPCA tor everything. Even after years I together and tons of water bowlers, routine, cuddles, play time, and a two bedroom with a full kitchen, bathroom, and living room, a litter robot, cat trees and plenty's of scratchers, I discovered she had kidney disease (CkD) at age 18, she lasted another year.

They called her Luna but I changed her name because I never want her to be associated with that family ever. All ties must be severed. I still wonder if I should report them to animal control but let's be real, would anything be done? No, because it's rescues such as SPCA, Dancing Cat, and etc. worry about the health and well-being of the animal. An animal is not just an animal but it's a living and breathing thing that ought to be loved and cared for even if they are feral. Dancing Cat got her in here. In a week this sweet, shy, and affectionate girl was adopted. I was so happy and I still say my blessings prayers as I think about her every single day. Staff that checked us in was kind and patient. He allowed me to sit with her to help get her settled. I didn't want to leave her. Through tears as she watched me walk away, I can look back and accept that this was a great move for her. She now has a family all thanks to Dancing Cat and SF SPCA. I'm forever grateful!!!

I loved all the procedures to protect the cats (wearing booties on shoes, not picking up the cats, etc.), and the cats are adorable. The pricing is great and such a good treat on a day where you need to destress. I will say that the place smells very strongly of cat urine, which makes sense when you have 6 litter boxes and stray males marking up the space, but investing in a litter robot, more air purifiers, or room spray would be nice as it can cause a headache after a bit. Other than that, can't wait to go back!

I felt like they listened and cared. -- This is based on our experience trying to adopt a dog from AHAN pre-covid. I saw a dog on petfinder and contacted them and then AHAN reached out to let us know that particular dog was in the process of being adopted but to look at their website for others. So we did and then since I have already filled out an application, I just emailed the person back to let them know I was interested in another dog. Turns out these dogs were in Taiwan which is fine. But the second dog that we were interested in also fell through because then we were told that dog had Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia and their adoption is now pending. They said they will reach out to recommend others but never did. Why would you list a dog for adoption before you can clear them medically? Seems like a waste of time and heart break for people that wanted to adopt.

My Korean Jindo/malinois rescue - Athena - is the absolute love of my life. Thank you!!] I adopted Athena November 2019, before Covid officially hit the US. The house visit might not be something they do during Covid. I have been looking for a rescue for a year using adopt a pet which is a platform where people can rehome their pets and rescues can post theirs. I fell instantly in love with Athena. The description of her was really, really thorough and there were 6 videos of her in different situations (with children, other dogs, on leash walking near a dog, playing with dogs, etc.) it really gave me a great picture of her personality and behavior. The process was easy once I went through the interviews. The first interview was with Jessamy and she asked me a lot of questions to ensure that I was able to care for Athena and that my place was adequate for her. I then had another FaceTime to meet Athena (who was in Taiwan) and that only reinforced that I wanted her. I sent over a donation for Athena and her crate. [Side note, I do not think that the suggested donation covers more than 40% of the total care they invest in their dogs. Athena has all her shots, a minor surgery, scans/radios and so much paperwork from her vet in Taiwan because they really take care of their health. The food she was given was good food (Royal Canin) and she had really good joint supplements. She also had toys and a blanket. The flight was covered by AHAN and so was half the crate. Also she received basic training and was potty trained, could sit/lay down and walk on a leash. If you can donate more or on a regular basis, please do. If you can't, adopting those wonderful pets is already amazing so thank you!] Within a week, Jessamy and her team took care of everything. Flights, instructions on how to pick up the dogs, crate sizes (to place in car after pick up). When I met Athena at the airport it was the best day of my life. I was there with 4 other families, all eagerly awaiting their furry baby. Jessamy stayed in San Francisco and visited all the families to make sure the dogs were acclimated. She provided really great training advice and made sure that I was comfortable with Athena. I did additional training with Athena and a trainer here which I highly recommend if you're getting ANY dog ANYWHERE. Also I'd like to share that the size of your home doesn't matter - it's the number of walks and quality of those that does. I lived in a studio (550 square feet) for the first 8 months in San Francisco. Athena is a 50lbs dog and was super happy. We do a walk in the morning (30mn), long afternoon one (45-60mn) and evening one (20mn). I cannot thank AHAN, Jessamy and their incredible team of volunteers for the work that they do. Thank you a million times over! Alexandra
