Tofu tikka Masala garlic naan Vegetable Samosa
    Ashaki S.

The Ambiance in the restaurant was nice though I ordered for pickup and didn't eat there. Staff was nice. The food was not bad I liked the tikka masala I did find a hair in my food half way in which was a bit disturbing but I never contacted them to complain. I also got samosas that very the tastiest to me but they were veggie just kinda mushy on the inside but the sauce that came with it wa

    Chicken tandoori was decent.

We ordered food from Marigold the other day and thought, overall, it was average. The one outstanding item was the lamb korma, but unfortunately the vegetable Samosa were so soggy and small that these two dishes canceled each other out. The sauce on the lamb korma was amazingly good. Nice and thick and extremely complex. The pastry on the Samosa was soggy and limp. They were very small, with little filling. The chicken tandoori was fine. Maybe a little skimpy in terms of portion size compared to other places, but decent. The chicken tikka masala had a very light sauce, in terms of color, and the chicken was generous. You could tell the restaurant uses very high-quality chicken breast. The dish was fine, but I like a richer, more deeply-flavored sauce. The chutneys from this place are very good! Will be sticking with our regular places, because they are slightly less expensive, with food that is above average. I don't like paying more for food that is just average with smaller portions and does not include rice-- which our regular places do. It was also a bit of a turn-off that we ordered the Samosa chaat, but received the Samosa, so we had to go through the hassle of getting a refund.

Shocked and amazed. Indian food was absolutely amazing. This place has zero curb appeal. It's even less glamorous once you walk through the door. But, oh my gosh, the food and service is fantastic. Paneer tikka masala was top-notch. Garlic naan, fantastic. Huge portion of rice. Although five stars, I do have a recommendation. Please make a few new clean photocopies of the menu. The menu I was handed had definitely seen better days.

We ordered vegetarian takeout here several times. The food was always consistently good, the service was excellent. While I was waiting for my takeout order to be made, they were kind enough to offer some freshly made chai - such a pleasant experience and on top of that the chai was authentic, hot & made with a good balance of spices. They do have parking right in front, several spots. In case you were planning on eating there, they do have some limited seating inside and right outside. Enough seating to happily dine in with 2-3 friends as I suspect most people use this join as a takeout spot.

Half of the lunch special (to-go) - Chicken tikka masala and shrimp curry + Naan - It was good!

***3.5 Stars*** Indian food in Temescal?! Welp... *ahem*: "It's about damn time!". The lack of Indian food restaurants around these parts is something serious. When I saw that this new Indian place had opened up in Temescal, my little heart skipped a beat. This is what I've been waiting for. Since I couldn't be out of the office for too long, I decided to order for to-go. Their menu is pretty legit. Prices are high but at this point in time, what ISN'T?! What's nice is that this place offers some really good lunch special deals. I'm always up for saving some coin, so I decided to take advantage of their lunch special. Ordered the chicken tikka masala and shrimp curry lunch and it came with basmati rice and butter naan. Their restaurant is super tiny and plain. It looks like they are still trying to get things together in there, but a few other people came in to pickup to-go orders, so I'm thinking that it's a good choice for Indian takeout. The guy at the register was pleasant but didn't seem to know much English, so it was a bit hard to ask him any questions. When I opened the bag, the aroma started to fill the room. Everything was nicely packaged and rationed. The butter naan was warm and soft and the rice was nice and fluffy. The shrimp curry was decent but definitely could have used more spices and they only put 3 pieces of shrimp in it. I mean, I know it's lunch portions but dayum! Can I at least have a full serving? It was basically all sauce. But the real winner here was that chicken tikka masala. The chicken tikka masala was lit! It was so damn rich and creamy. The flavor just took ahold of my mouth. I wanted to dip everything in that damn tikka masala! So, soooo good! And luckily they weren't as skimpy with the chicken as they were with shrimp. To be honest, their chicken tikka masala is what made me push them from a 3 to a 4 stars. It was so incredible, but without it, this place is easily a basic 3. I'm planning to dine in soon, so hopefully the dine in experience is much better. But, that chicken tikka masala is definitely worth coming here for. And, I'll be back again for it real soon.

    Veggie korma

Let's start with the fact that the food was SO YUMMY! We got the onion rings and potato cakes to start. And veggie/chicken Korma with naan, all great. As a vegan, I was so glad they had plenty of options for me. My friend has a gluten allergy and they checked with the kitchen (samosas aren't actually gf like the menu said, but many other things are because they use chickpea flour). The folks who work there were as friendly as the food was good. They talked with us about all the menu options, checked up on us throughout the night, and were patient when we were the last table in the restaurant as they closed up. (Sorry!) The space itself was unassuming from the street, and the simple atmosphere let the people and food steal the show. We'll definitely be back!

Tandoor salmon- great flavor, served with some roasted vegetables which were tasty. Slightly overcooked but with the fresh lemon juice and rice it wasn't too noticeable. The service was fine, atmosphere pretty lowkey but nicely decorated and clean. Will definitely return to try more dishes and figure out which suit our tastes the best.

When I approached the front counter, the lady present was very standoffish with me. I informed her of why I was there and she asked my name for the order. Upon giving her my name she then glared at me and literally asked me to recite my entire order lol! I showed her my online receipt in which she then insisted I still tell her my order. She brushed away my receipt and let another customer cut in front of me. Interestingly, the customer told her his name and she retrieved his order with no issue and was very friendly with him. To note, I was the only Black person present at that time. When I inquired as to why that customer wasn't asked to recite his entire order, she grinned and said that he's a "regular" and that I was "new." She went on to let a few other customers cut in front of me. I then asked for my money back in which she refused to return. Even when I asked for the manager, she said he was very busy. I made several requests for this resulting in her saying no and refusing to return my money. I then noted to her I'm calling the authorities in which I did. Furthermore, while servicing some of the other patrons, she would speak in another language with them while they looked at me and start laughing and staring me down. Eventually, the manager came out. He presented himself professionally and upon explaining what occurred he apologized and said it was unacceptable. He even offered me a drink with my meal and asked that I please accept the order instead and wanted to make things right. I took him at face value and said fine. While the situation was remedied, I definitely will not be returning to this restaurant. I researched some of the other reviews and came across several where other Black patrons have had similar racially motivated experiences here. That tells me there's a common practice of racism here. I refuse to support a business where this kind of behavior is tolerated. I have zero tolerance for bigots of any kind. Overall, the experience was a waste of my time and very dehumanizing. To hate someone you don't even know simply because of their skin pigmentation and ethnicity is irrational at best and bad for business especially in a place like Oakland where it's multicultural. My advice would be to not support this establishment. I especially advise any Black patrons not to come here as they clearly have issue with anyone who is simply Black, despite not knowing them as a person. Don't give your money, nor your valuable time, to hateful individuals who dehumanize others. All in all, this place gets a thumbs down.

First, the customer service set the tone. The first server who greeted us was very rude, nonchalant, and standoffish. It honestly felt like we were bothering her just by being there, which made the experience uncomfortable from the start. As for the food, this is definitely not your typical Indian food. The flavors were very different from what we're used to, and not in a good way. My niece absolutely loves Indian food -- we eat it pretty regularly -- but she did not like her dish at all. None of us really enjoyed our meals. We even spoke with the manager about it because we were trying to be reasonable. We explained that the food just wasn't something we could eat and wanted to see if there was any way to resolve it. The manager told us there was nothing he could do because we had already ordered the food, so we ended up paying for meals that we barely touched. If you look at the pictures, it probably looks like we didn't eat much of anything. That's because we really didn't. The only things we were able to eat were the naan and some of the rice. Even the rice didn't come with the meal and had to be ordered separately. Another thing worth mentioning is the portion sizes. The dishes looked more like appetizer portions rather than full meal portions, especially for the price. Between the unfriendly service, the unusual taste of the food, and the fact that we had to pay for meals we didn't even eat, this was not a great experience. Unfortunately, this is not a place we would return to.
