It has potential. a) I'm super-excited about having an Indian restaurant in the neighborhood b) it was good, but I want it to be better. The good: * the saag paneer was perfectly creamy and the flavor was super-balanced. Could've used a couple more pieces of paneer, but overall: good. Room for improvement: * the chicken in the chicken tikka masala was a hair overcooked/starting to get dry * the veggie samosas were very, very spicy. We'd ordered them for the kid because the marketing copy on the website said that they were good for kids. This had made me assume that they were on the mild side. But: nope! The kid ended up eating some yogurt with naan and calling it a day. The adults split the samosas and we agreed they were on the spicy side. * the naan. I'd absolutely love to get buttery naan that's both warm and crispy and has a bit of elasticity. This naan was clearly fresh, but it had been put into aluminum foil too soon after having been made, so it had a steamed quality to it. I'd rather have it be in paper (with maybe a twist of aluminum at the bottom to keep butter from dripping) rather than encased in aluminum, which changes the texture dramatically. Despite the room for improvement, it's solid and we hope to be back soon. read more

While walking the dog, I noticed Marigold had recently opened and I was excited to try it out. My to-go order consisted of Aloo Gobi, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chili Chicken, rice, garlic and cilantro naan, and kheer. Quite the spread! The aloo gobi was the best I've ever tasted (5/5 no exaggeration)! The tikka masala was good, but I should've ordered it a little spicier. I typically don't order chicken chili, but new place, new dish? The rice, chicken chili, naan, and kheer were all tasty but not at the level of the aloo gobi. Marigold just opened near my house, and we were excited for a close by indian restaurant with a parking lot. The food is fantastic. Every dish we had was killer. Vindaloo has a beautiful sour note, korma is subtly sweet and feels rich but light at the same time. The veggie dumplings in the korma were great. Very good portion size for the price point. They opened recently, and I've always been curious about them since they bought the building, so I decided to give it a try. I got the Veggie Biryani and stuffed cheese naan. The staff were very accommodating and offered to try some Mango Lassi as I waited. The veggie Biryani is flavorful and spicy, with a wonderful array of vegetables. It came with a side of raita, which was a good balance to the biryani. The naan is soft and tasty as well. I will definitely stop here again for a meal! read more

I once came here for lunch and had to wait 15 minutes for my food. When it came I realized they cook it fresh. Authentic North Indian touch and service with a smile. I work near by and this my go to restaurant. Price is reasonable and Shera the cook does a phenomenal job with his details of preparation . We've been getting take out from Marigold since they first opened. It's always been great staple Indian dishes. Nearly outstanding. The reason for the three stars is that the last 4 times we've ordered, the food has been inedibly salty. I always want it to have been a one off situation, or a particular dish, but tonight again it is so salty it's hard to eat. I don't know what the deal is but it's really disappointing. All of the flavor is lost. After a few bites we're unable to continue. Everything is too salty now as well. Before it was the just the Byriani but tonight it was everything. What gives??? read more

I love this place!!! The Biryani is my favorite... I'm a biryani fan and no where else do they compare! I typically get the veggie biryani medium spice. It packs a little punch, which I love, and is oh so flavorful. My wife really loves the Aloo tikka chaat. I'm grateful to have found my go-to Indian food spot! read more

We just had our 3rd takeout from this place and yet again it we exceeded our expectations, which were already very high!!! For authentic street food we visit Vik's Chaat, but for curries like we could get in the UK, Marigold's is the very best we have had in SF or Oakland (in 19 years). My wife lived the Chicken Curry. My daughter loved the Chicken Tikka Masala (although it's morn like a Korma). The Mattar Paneer, Chana Masala and both Daals are delicious. Last night I added a shrimp Vindaloo and it was great. Their rice Pilau is on par with Flavors of India (who's is consistently great) and I had coconut rice once and liked it. Their Nan's (plain, stuffed and flavored) have been consistently cooked to perfection and piping hot when we pick up the order. What else? Timing has always been spot-on - I.e. they can turn around the order quickly 20 mins or accurately to the time I picked, always with the breads feeling fresh out the oven when I got home. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a great curry!!!!! read more

Today I ordered a few items after checking their online menu. I ordered starter naan and rice for $5, Karahi chicken for $13 and a side of rice for $3. When I picked it up order was ready on time. Problem is the naan n curry was $8 and the karahi chicken was $18. The rice may have been more but didn't check, I'd appreciate if the online menu reflected what they are charging inside the restaurant. When I got home, ate. The naan is ok, was the only good thing, and it was just ok, the curry to dip it in was unimpressive. The karahi chicken wasn't tasting great. Chicken itself was ok, but the sauce and other elements weren't on point. The basmati rice also didn't taste fresh and high quality. I confirmed this all with a second taste test from my friend. read more

Best Indian food in the East Bay. I've been in the East Bay for 5ish year and have been searching for the "best" Indian food and after trying just about every spot in Oakland/Berkeley/Alameda none of the quite hit the spot. I have 2 points to call out: 1. When you get a chicken curry dish, how many pieces come with it? In just about every restaurant we have ate at we have found that you don't get more than 7 pieces usually. Not like I'm counting or anything...but for a $14 entree I just want a couple more pieces of chicken. Enter Marigold...at least 12 pieces if not more. Every time. They are not stingy with the meat! 2. Flavor. I am by no means an Indian food expert but I like bold flavorful food. Now some places I have tried succeed at one dish but lack luster in others. Every dish at Marigold has been a punch of flavor. I like to order spicy and it's actually spicy. Anyway. Don't take my word for it. Naan is warm and never stale, and definitely a good deal for your $$$ So glad we found our Indian spot finally. read more

This place is fantastic! We got take out for our first time and we'll certainly be returning. We ordered the lamb rogan josh (spicy), korma vegetable (spicy), garlic naan, and popadoms. Both curries were properly spicy in just the right way and very rich with flavour. The korma was delightfully creamy with an excellent texture. The naan was extra fluffy. My only marginal complaint is that the veggies in the korma were similar to what you might get in a bag of frozen veg from the likes of Safeway. But at the end of the day, the flavors were fantastic. We'll definitely be returning to support them and we're looking forward to trying more dishes! read more

The atmosphere and decorations in the restaurant were not the fanciest but they completely made up for it with the food itself. Excellent plating as well. I got the tandoori chicken and it came out on a sizzling hot plate done perfectly and super tender. Also loved the garlic naan and the paneer. The service was also prompt and polite. read more

This new authentic Indian place just opened in Temescal. It is a hidden gem. And sometimes there's parking. I hate to review it because then come the crowds, but it's worth it. Wow! This was my second time having Indian cuisine, but not at this location. I was in the mood for Indian, so my husband and I went here. It was me and my husband's first experience at Marigold. We decided to dine in, and we both had lunch specials. I ordered the mixed veggie masala, butter chicken, and raita on the side: the lunch special comes with a generous portion of rice and a side of naan. I also had mango juice. The only thing was my raita was very plain, no spices or anything but I still enjoyed it. My husband had mixed veggie masala and tikka masala (lamb) with guava juice. The food was spiced to perfection, it came out quickly, and it was steaming! The naan was made fresh! We came in around 1 pm on a Saturday, so we were the only patrons there. I believe our server's name was Sayed, he was friendly and patient, and I appreciate that as this was a new restaurant we decided to try. The parking was a little hectic, but luckily we came upon a spot by the pizza joint next door. If you're a fan of Indian food or want to try something new, I highly recommend this place and the lunch special because you'll be able to try two entree items at a reasonable price. read more

Unfortunately this place was a fail for me. I was excited about the kulcha lunch plate - sadly the aloo kulcha filling tasted of unseasoned mashed potatoes and as far as the chana masala, the one fr tjs has more flavor. Unfortunately this was the issue with the whole meal - madras chicken curry tasted like chicken in a tomato cream sauce, lacking in any sort of seasoning. Lamb seekh kabab wasn't bad when you add the mint chutney. Garlic naan was standard. Mango lassi was excellent. Perhaps catered more towards the non-Indian palate. read more

A small restaurant with big flavors! So yummy and we have been going back there regularly. I love the lamb biryani and my husband loves the samosas and naan. We love these so much and have been ordering these every time that we haven't had a chance to try other dishes. The food is served piping hot and comes out in no time. Very reasonably priced and the food quality is great - hard to find in these days where every place else has increased their price because of the high inflation. There's parking in the small plaza as well which is another plus. Oh, don't forget to top off your meal with a delicious mango lassi. read more
