The decor and architecture was just beautifully done. The service was fantastic and they helped us make decisions with the food and beverage with ease. We got the burrata which was lovely with this awesome fig compote, clover hill beef tartare was nicely chopped up and not big pieces with a really yummy aioli, endive Caesar was also very good with some lovely sourdough croutons and lastly we had a pizza with sausage, kale, fresh ricotta and chili flakes. It was cooked perfectly and not soggy. The espresso martini was with real espresso and also delicious! Highly recommend coming here!

A group of us stayed at Keswick Hall this past weekend. With our stay came with breakfast at Marigolds each morning. They have a wonderful breakfast menu, including omelets, parfaits, avocado toast and more. The make your own omelet was my favorite. We also got to have dinner here the last night. It was definitely one of the highlights of our trip! The patio was beautifully set up. The food was phenomenal. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of vibrant, balanced flavors. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients, many of which are locally sourced. We started with the pot stickers and warm shrimp and tender green salad --both were fresh and delicious. For mains, the roasted chicken and the black truffle pizza were amazing. I'm still dreaming about that black truffle pizza! For dessert, I highly recommend the salted caramel ice cream sundae. It was the perfect ending to our delicious meal. Whether you're staying at Keswick Hall or just looking for a special night out in Charlottesville, Marigold is absolutely worth the visit.

Such a lovely lunch at Marigold. The view was fantastic and we really enjoyed the simple but sophisticated and relaxed decor. Our drinks were delicious, I tried a mocktail and loved it. My truffle pizza was so good and the house made ice cream is very rich. Would love to come back for another meal.

Everything I needed... already planning my next escape. I came to Marigold for Mother's Day with My Girls, and from the moment we walked in, everything just felt right. The space is effortlessly elegant, and the food matched the vibe perfectly. We were hoping for the Hamachi Crudo, but it was sold out -- luckily, what followed made up for it. The warm shrimp salad was unreal. That vinaigrette? I was trying to save it for my scallops. I'd buy it by the bucket if I could. The ribeye had a gorgeous presentation. The house steak sauce was flavorful, though a bit heavy on tamarind for the quality of the cut. Burrata was classic and perfect -- hard to mess up, but they nailed the balance of textures and flavors. Loved the grilled bread alongside it. Crispy potatoes were perfectly prepared but I think it might have been time to change the oil. The dumplings, while a solid backup for the missing crudo, had dough that was a bit too thick for my taste. The flavor on those dumplings was perfect, though! All in all, a beautiful meal in a beautiful space. I'd absolutely return -- that shrimp salad alone is worth the trip.

We had a delightful ladies lunch after visiting the Southern Living Design House. The venue is gorgeous with really beautiful views. Our server, Ibeth, was fantastic. I had the Sunset Spritz cocktail which was delicious. Others had the ginger margarita, Ocean View and Cordial Mocktail. For food we ordered the cheeseburger, french toast, eggs benedict and radicchio salad - we all enjoyed our meals. Definitely worth a visit for great food in a beautiful setting.

Service was great but food was very mediocre. I ordered the roasted chicken and it was well seasoned but a little heavy on the seasoning so it ended up being a bit salty. My friends ordered the salmon and said it didn't have much flavor on it. We also had the corn dumplings which were delicious !!! The ambiance here is very nice for anything celebratory and views are great outside!

NOVEMBER 2024: Updating because I DID come back a lot quicker than expected and had another 5/5 experience. This is easily one of if not the best restaurant in Charlottesville right now. I came to dinner with a coworker after raving about my first experience. She and I ordered the steak tartare to start. Absolutely incredible and the gochujang avocado combo was unbeatable. I had some kind of white fish (cobia I think) and she had a steak. Both 5/5 meals. We finished with dessert, I had I think an apple tartlette with a Edwardian pear ice cream on the side. It was so good. The dessert here is easily the best I've ever had no contest. I will say that dining here is quite expensive, so keep that in mind. But if you are looking for a splurge night in Charlottesville, this should be your choice.

We just had brunch at Marigold. My husband orders the Eggs Benedict and I ordered the marigold brunch with bacon. The ambiance was great. The food was the disappointment. It came faster than they had said as they had warned that they were in the midst of "switching". My husband's eggs Benedict were a bit cold, and as soon as we left the restaurant, his stomach begun feeling oogy. We're hoping he won't be sick. Both our plates were pretty meh. The bacon was very thin- surprising to me that they serve very cheap bacon for a Michelin 3-star. Overall, a disappointment.

One of the reasons I chose this location for a Father's Day brunch is the beautiful interior. The restaurant overlooks a wide field with a golf course and invokes feelings of elegance upon entrance. The food is relatively basic, at least for the brunch menu. I had the french toast, which I believe was fried in a fryer and was incredibly fluffy and cake-like. It was very filling as well. The Marigold breakfast was fine, the house-made potatoes were the best portion of this dish. The service was very warm and welcoming as well! Overall a 3.8/5.

This was our second time to Marigold in a few months, and I really wanted to like it more this time around. After visiting the Barboursville area wineries for my date's birthday, we decided to celebrate with a dinner at Marigold, as indicated on our reservation. The cozy atmosphere, slightly dimmed lighting and rustic charm make this a perfect date night/celebratory spot. We ordered the Sashimi with Spicy White Ponzu and Spring Pea Potstickers as our appetizers, Steamed Black Sea Bass and Seared Scallops as our entrees, and the Molten Chocolate Cake and Apple Crisp as our desserts. The spicy ponzu sauce for the sashimi was delicious, although the sashimi was sliced very thin and unevenly. The spicy vegetarian potstickers had a good flavor despite containing no meat inside. Our entrees were both delectable, although on the smaller side. The molten cake (the dessert that Jean-Georges is known for) was perfectly executed, and the apple dessert was pretty tasty as well. The restaurant also offered freshly made Madeline cookies at the end of our meal, which is a nice touch, although there was no acknowledgment of us celebrating his birthday this night. With the food being very tasty, the front-of-house service at this establishment is inattentive and does not match the level of service expected for a restaurant owned by a renowned chef. When asked for a recommendation from 4 different appetizers, our server, instead of offering any helpful suggestions, offered us more time to come to a decision. Additionally, when my date's lap napkin had fallen on the floor midway through our dinner, it took asking 2 different people (perhaps a manager at first who came by to ask how we were doing, and then our server the second and third time around) and waiting 15 minutes for a replacement napkin to arrive. A similar issue happened with an iced tea refill - the manager saw the glass was empty and did not offer a refill, and the server had to be asked twice with at least 10 minutes in between) before bringing the refill over to our table. By the time the refill arrived, my date had already finished his dinner. Overall, the delicious food served here is the reason why we would return in the future (because it's actually quite neat to have a renowned chef have a restaurant that's located in the middle of nowhere), but the service has fallen short both times we've visited. I remain hopeful that the service will improve one day to match the quality of food served because that's what customers come to expect from a place like this.

We had two meals here. Dinner for my birthday and then breakfast the following morning bc we were staying at the hotel. For dinner - service was excellent. Ava took great care of us and brought us goodies to celebrate both my 40th birthday and our baby which is due in just a few weeks! We chose several appetizers to include the kale/broccoli salad (YUM) and burrata with toast (YUM). I chose the halibut entree which was a very generous portion and my husband went for the meatball pasta dish which he very much liked as well. For dessert - I had to try the famous lava cake - delicious! It was a tough call between that and their house-made carrot cake - but, next time! - For breakfast, less impressive. I went with the Vanilla Chia Seed Pudding and found it to be a weird, dry texture that I didn't enjoy. Would not order it again. The yogurt parfait for $11 was too small to be a full portion for breakfast. My husband was unhappy bc he wanted to make a breakfast sandwich and the kitchen didn't want to make a cheese, bacon breakfast sandwich on another toast. Eventually they did, but he didn't like the issue and the food was just OK. We will def. come back again for dinner. Beautiful restaurant and gorgeously appointed with stellar service for dinner.

Service and food was amazing. Loved our bartender, she had a great sense of humor. The place was elegant!

Every time I visit Charlottesville I make Marigold a must! It is such a gorgeous restaurant and the food is delicious! Service is fantastic, you are never left waiting too long as they somehow perfectly time out when the dishes get to your table. Highly recommend the calamari (not pictured) it was truly one of the best I have ever had.

What a great place that begins a few feet before you get to the door and the staff have opened it…read morefor you. When dining here, I enjoy the superbly prepared food, a very high level of attention and a cozy, classy and quaint atmosphere. The restaurant is small but the food taste is large. Before I describe my courses, there were many bonus bites, starting with an amuse bouche and then other small and wonderful taste surprises between the courses. Had the small, bite-size food gifts been a full course, I would have been quite content. For example, one plate of small tasty delights had 5 items to enjoy. That little dishes included quail egg, beet, steak tartar, stuffed corn cakes, avocado mousse and corn jam and some creamy pistachio. There was also the delicate and frothy egg yolk with a ginger and carrot salad. I was also given a surprise small portion of delectable soup, which was root vegetable-based with a truffle cream dollop on top. I enjoyed the carrot and rich parsnip flavors in that soup. Of course, there was some fresh warm bread with a yummy, garlicky butter. i had a glass of champagne whcih had a light, clean grassy taste with an nice acidic bitterness. My three courses on the Prix Fixe menu started with the Tagliatelle aux fruits de mer parfumee a la truffle. This seafood pasta dish, with a truffle accent, was a wonderful balance between the earthy flavor and the slightly sweet and perfectly-seared scallops. The next course was a Bourride de fruits de mer. This dish is a seafood stew in a tomato soup. As usual, the flavor combination is so sublime and so interesting on the tongue. The soup arrived with a slice of flavorful garlic bread, perched above the bowl which was holding fresh seafood on the surface. The final course was La bombe au chocolat. This is a rich dark chocolate and raspberry mousse in a deep hot chocolate sauce. Of course, the chef was so kind in sending out another bonus dish with a type of of kouign-amann, a wonderfully tasty lime tart and yummy chocolate truffles in the center. What a spectacular experience!

I've seen reviews from others indicating that the portion sizes left them hungry, and I'm not certain how much those few people are used to consuming, but my husband and I were both pleasantly full by the end of five courses (we added the bread and butter as well as a dessert, and I was too full to finish the dessert). Each course was expertly prepared and absolutely delicious; it's clear that they put a significant amount of time, thought, and love into preparing their monthly menus. My husband is a vegetarian (and a picky one at that), and they were more than accommodating and didn't skip a beat in dreaming up dishes that were creative, beautiful, and so tasty that I kept stealing bites from him. I also appreciate that it's very much a family-run establishment and not at all stuffy or pretentious; the atmosphere is lovely, and having the homey touch makes it even more appealing. My only regret was that I was too full to go over to their bar afterward and add on the French onion soup, which looks incredible. We will be back to try more!

The inside is pretty small so if you have a larger group and you want to sit together, just know dining outside maybe your best option. Anyway! I ordered their garlic bread appetizer, short rib entree, which came with a side of mash potatoes, carrots, and Brussels sprouts; and pistachio cheesecake for dessert. The garlic bread appetizer is a must! It comes with enough pieces for about two people to share and is paired with a fresh bean paste as a dip - trust me it's delicious! The short rib was just as delicious! The Brussels sprouts did seem a bit undercooked, but it wasn't a deal breaker. Finally, the cheesecake was solid was well! Everything was a decent portion size and worth the price in my opinion. If you're in the area and looking for a nice place to dine, you should check them out.
