We loved Petit Pois! The restaurant was a little hard to find - the outdoor seating looks like it's shared with Zocalo, but once you find it, you won't be disappointed! The highlight was the lobster bisque - it had a caramel flavor that we had never tasted elsewhere. We also loved the mussels - the sauce was so tasty that we finished it all with the complimentary bread. The arugula salad was also nice. Pricing was very reasonable for the quality and quantity we received!

The food here is delicious. The presentation was attractive. There were 8 of us dining on a Saturday night. The place was busy and our waitress was new. She forgot a few things but made up for it because she was so pleasant. Everyone loved what the had.

When did C'ville become such a foodie town?! What a fantastic dinner we had at Petite Pois! We had an early 5pm reservation before seeing Dave Matthews and we sat next to another couple who had the same plan. My friend has a dairy and gluten allergy and they were able to accommodate her beautifully. We shared the beet salad with the goat cheese on the side (for me), trout amandine (made with olive oil instead of butter), and crab cake. Our meal was perfect. I would order all of these dishes again! The service was wonderful. We parked in the lot just around the corner. Just an overall delightful meal!

Saturday night, gorgeous weather, and patio dining in charming Charlottesville! Quite the winning combination! I ordered their lobster & shrimp bisque which was quite nice! A little on the salty side but was nice. Then came the entree of their Coq au Vin which I paired with a French Syrah. Ohhh their Coq au Vin was some delightful chicken! Prepared perfectly and it was just the right amount of juiciness and saturated with flavor. For dessert, I indulged in beignets that were excellent! My waitress was very pleasant and helpful in coordinating me picking up the bill for my table. 5/5 all around!

We came here on a busy Wednesday for lunch and were greeted and seated outside right away. You can sit inside too but it was a gorgeous day out. Seats were comfortable and had umbrellas with shade and beautiful flowering plants of all sizes around the courtyard. Our server was fantastic and we ordered libations first and then our main sides. My trout was so tasty, I could have ate 3 more since the filet was really small. My parents had the crab cake and said it was amazing too. Bathrooms were clean and I can't wait to go back to try something new!

A girlfriend and I were visiting Charlottesville and wandering around the downtown area on a Friday night. It was a perfect night outside so we decided to try one of the restaurants with outdoor seating- Petit Pois looked great! We snagged a table outside and proceeded to have a most wonderful experience. Our server, Hector, was super attentive and gave us the best suggestions. We decided to share several appetizers because they all sounded so good- best decision ever! We had the smoked salmon, burrata and peppers, shrimp and grits, and crispy brussel sprouts. They were all absolutely fantastic- each dish was generously sized (we should have only ordered 2-3 dishes) and tasted fantastic. We each also enjoyed a handcrafted beverage which made everything even a bit better. Definitely recommend.

We made a reservation for dinner here to celebrate my wife's birthday at 7:45pm. We arrived and were given the choice to sit inside or out- we chose to sit on the patio to enjoy the ambiance of downtown Charlottesville. We ordered wine and an old fashioned and were about three sips in before our server was "just letting us know" the kitchen closes at 8. This was our first time visiting and didn't realize we would be on a time crunch having been offered a reservation at 7:45pm. He ultimately gave us the speech "if it were up to me you could wait but the kitchen staff gets upset". It was whatever. We knew what we wanted to eat we just weren't quite ready to order. I should mention that my wife's old fashioned was mostly watered down tasting. She orders these at dinner all the time and it was just not up to standards. See photo. We shared the coq au vin which seemed to be just about the only authentic French item on the menu. I was a little disappointed in that. There were no specials. Our meal was tasty. They have definitely perfected this dish and the portion was huge (glad we split it). All in all we would maybe try this place again but it's low on the priority list.

This is nestled in a bit of a shadowy corner of downtown, so it never caught my eye, so I am glad I found reviews online that led me here! It was easy to get seated on Saturday lunchtime, and we chose to sit outdoors (we ended up being chilly because it was blustery and out of the sun but the warm food helped). Between four people, we decided to go family-style with the appetizers of French onion soup, lamb mergeuz soup, and gnocchi. Due to an accident, we got the shrimp risotto (uncharged that we got to keep), and it ended up being one of the best apps. The lamb mergeuz soup was delectable, very unique in flavor and well-balanced in my opinion, bringing a good earthy meaty taste alongside the tender beans and carrots. The French onion soup was done well. While the risotto looked like it had been sitting out for a moment (a bit congealed looking), it tasted phenomenal and was the best risotto I've ever had. It was not overly cheesy or buttery, just perfectly creamy held up by some of the flavor of shrimp. The gnocchi ended up being the weakest app; while the gnocchi were so tender and pillowy, the flavors were confusing, dominated by salt and strangely mingling tangy, herby, and nutty flavors. I personally ordered the crab cake and loved my choice. Without excess breading, the crab cake was satisfying and had an excellent flavor including notes of citrus and mustard(?) that went great with the sweet creamed corn -- I was indifferent about the spinach. The appetizer portions are very generous! I was so satisfied by this meal and would love to come back again to try other menu items and see how it changes seasonally!

Wonderful lunch outside with great wine and fabulous food! Highly recommend Petit Pois if you are ever in Charlottesville.

When dining here, I enjoy the superbly prepared food, a very high level of attention and a cozy, classy and quaint atmosphere. The restaurant is small but the food taste is large. Before I describe my courses, there were many bonus bites, starting with an amuse bouche and then other small and wonderful taste surprises between the courses. Had the small, bite-size food gifts been a full course, I would have been quite content. For example, one plate of small tasty delights had 5 items to enjoy. That little dishes included quail egg, beet, steak tartar, stuffed corn cakes, avocado mousse and corn jam and some creamy pistachio. There was also the delicate and frothy egg yolk with a ginger and carrot salad. I was also given a surprise small portion of delectable soup, which was root vegetable-based with a truffle cream dollop on top. I enjoyed the carrot and rich parsnip flavors in that soup. Of course, there was some fresh warm bread with a yummy, garlicky butter. i had a glass of champagne whcih had a light, clean grassy taste with an nice acidic bitterness. My three courses on the Prix Fixe menu started with the Tagliatelle aux fruits de mer parfumee a la truffle. This seafood pasta dish, with a truffle accent, was a wonderful balance between the earthy flavor and the slightly sweet and perfectly-seared scallops. The next course was a Bourride de fruits de mer. This dish is a seafood stew in a tomato soup. As usual, the flavor combination is so sublime and so interesting on the tongue. The soup arrived with a slice of flavorful garlic bread, perched above the bowl which was holding fresh seafood on the surface. The final course was La bombe au chocolat. This is a rich dark chocolate and raspberry mousse in a deep hot chocolate sauce. Of course, the chef was so kind in sending out another bonus dish with a type of of kouign-amann, a wonderfully tasty lime tart and yummy chocolate truffles in the center. What a spectacular experience!

The inside is pretty small so if you have a larger group and you want to sit together, just know dining outside maybe your best option. Anyway! I ordered their garlic bread appetizer, short rib entree, which came with a side of mash potatoes, carrots, and Brussels sprouts; and pistachio cheesecake for dessert. The garlic bread appetizer is a must! It comes with enough pieces for about two people to share and is paired with a fresh bean paste as a dip - trust me it's delicious! The short rib was just as delicious! The Brussels sprouts did seem a bit undercooked, but it wasn't a deal breaker. Finally, the cheesecake was solid was well! Everything was a decent portion size and worth the price in my opinion. If you're in the area and looking for a nice place to dine, you should check them out.

What a treat for an elevated meal out. We liked that it was fish forward and very well prepared. It has other option though if the sea is not your thing. The service was friendly and prompt and the vibe was French farmhouse. Loved the banquette seating with cushions. Probably the most comfortable I've ever been in a restaurant. The wooden chairs could probably use a pad though. We started out with a cocktail, a beer and an iced tea with its own little cut carafe of simple syrup. The cocktail was the Madam George and it was just as described: Complex, bitter and sweet. Loves that they had descriptions under each cocktail. So helpful! My husband really enjoyed his dark beer from Von Trapp. It was smooth and lighter than most dark beers so perfect for a summer night. To start the meal we received a complimentary amuse bouche of crab salad. It was a delightful briny and citrus bite. For apps we got the burrata and seafood board and both were great openers for our meal. The burrata had a lovely smooth and creamy texture and the tomato and sauce were a nice complement. Needed a tad bit more crostini but we used some that came on the seafood board which was full of tasty and unique seafood delights: the tea smoked scallops with ponzu were my favorite! For entrees we got the bacon wrapped trout, the branzino and the halibut. All three were delicious! Seriously couldn't decide what we liked the best because they were all so good. The trout had a depth of flavor unusual for fish because of the slight smokiness and creamy texture of the fish contrasting with the crispness of the bacon.. The branzino was light and fluffy with a nice tang from the yogurt sauce. The halibut was perfectly cooked with a creamy coconut risotto and a lovely ginger tomato sauce with a nice kick. The mango salsa with a perfect complement to give it an island feel. And to top it off there was a complimentary dessert bite that was a shortbread with caramel and chocolate ganache and a touch of salt. It was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. This is particularly true for the wine program; for a venue with such a massive retail selection, the curated menu feels surprisingly stingy. I had high hopes for their Cheese Board, but unfortunately, it mirrored my general experience here: great flavors, questionable value. The Highlights: The presentation on the bamboo board is lovely. The bread was exceptionally fresh and flavorful, and the fruit accompaniments; Persimmon, guava, grapes, and strawberry, offered a bright, acidic contrast that paired well with the selections. The Letdowns: Zero Transparency: The cheeses weren't listed on the menu, and the server didn't offer any information on what was being served. Half the joy of a professional board is the "story" knowing the origins and profiles. We were left entirely in the dark. The "Bread-to-Cheese" Ratio: Most of the selections were hard cheeses, and the two soft cheeses provided were literally the size of a quarter. Every sample was sliced remarkably thin. While the bread portion was generous, there wasn't nearly enough cheese or fruit to sustain it. It felt less like a cheese service and more like a bread board with a cheese garnish. Bottom Line: The Crush Pad clearly has access to great ingredients, but the portions should be more than "tastes." I want to love this place, but the value for the price just isn't quite there.
