Finally made it to Marie's Kitchen after receiving the word of mouth referral. The restaurant lived up to its reputation of providing authentic Haitian food! The menu selection was extensive though simplistic. Several popular dishes were featured that included traditional meats including goat (cabrit) prepared in different ways. I selected a meal which included djon djon (black) rice, fried green plantain (preparation liked tostones) and fried cabrit. Meal included small portions of pikleas (spicy cabbage mix) and tasty gravy. Order was prepared in a timely fashion and presented as verification before my order was placed in to go bag. Everything was delicious!!! Portion size was enough to have leftovers, which were also perfect. The truly monumental part of my visit was reconnecting with the gentleman who told me about Marie's several months ago. He was sitting in waiting area and we conversed as I took pictures. We talked until we realized our connection and I thanked him again. Will definitely return to get some of my favorite Haitian meals. The plaza where located was spacious with free parking. Hole in the wall / hidden gems have a special place in my heart. To all the other bad reviews; get bent! People have such high expectations for everything these days, and I always say "expectations lead to disappointment" When I walked in, I was greeted, but my order wasn't taken instantly... why? Because there's one woman working. Patience is a virtue. She yelled "one minute!" And then shortly came to take my order. She was out of jerk chicken so i ordered the Griot, with rice and beans, and fried plantains. I was getting my car repaired next door, and the owner recommended this place. 10/10 - this food is incredible. Anyone else rating it lower probably has a problem with everyone and everything, including themselves. We forget sometimes to slow down... be patient, and be understanding. I had griot and the goat, wings, and i got my homie the snapper, white rice and black rice. All the food was spectacular except the wings. It made me feel like my gramma cooked for me. Rating easily been 5 stars but i have concerns about the cleanliness of the restaurant and the wings were super trash. read more

Ordered some rice, plantains patties over the phone. Arrived 20 minutes later just to wait for 25 minutes until someone came of of the back. Once I was shown my food it was the wrong order. Then a lady went back to the kitchen for 15 more minutes just to come out and say we are out of patties and we are making your order now. Never ever ever again. This was my second time giving this place a chance and I never will go back. How I place my order over the phone and when I get there the man tells me they are closed and don't have my food, mind you this is well before closing hours. I ordered this $16.00 plate and to me it wasn't worth it more so the meat. They give so much rice and a little portion of meat. When I asked about the portion Marie automatically went into defensive mode talking crap in Creole as if I didn't understand!!!! I didn't get out of character like I'd normally would paid and left. Fast forward to how the food tasted. From a scale of 1-10 I give it a 4. I'm an island girl and I'm from Miami...if you know you know.. the meat really had no taste I had to pour the watered down sauce over the rice and meat to give it some kinda flavor. My friend recommended I try some Haitian oxtails so I decided I would and these did not disappoint. It was a small and nice store and the wait was short. The rice was delicious and savory and the oxtails perfectly tender. The salad had a surprisingly spicy taste, like they put habanero in it. The plantain was just a tad sweet. Upon arriving, I was not greeted and it took about 10 minutes for someone to come and take my order. I wanted to try the beef and chicken patties, but I was told that they were understaffed and they only have frozen patties. So, I opted not to get them. I then ordered two plates: a griot plate and a stew chicken plate. As I was shown my food, the amount of food given was not worth the price at all! There was 4 chicken drums, but half of the meat was missing of the bones, and the griot plate only had about 6 small pieces of pork. Omg! I just moved here from Miami. It's so hard to find good authentic Haitian food here. I hit the jackpot with this place. Officially added to my foodie list of places that's a gem. I told Marie and her Sue Chef I love them. I'm Haitian and pregnant so this took me home and hit the spot!!!! Merci!!!! Only one problem... I had a little bit of a hard time finding it. I overlooked it and past it a few time. She is located in the plaza with dollar general but not connected to the building. She is located in the plaza but is completely detached from it. Great food! Reminds me of my mother's cooking! The food is fresh and tasty. I usually called ahead and my order is ready when I arrive.

I would give them less than 1 star. I spoke to the owner and asked her how much lambi/conch I would get and she kept repeating $34 and I explained to her I was asking the quantity in the platter. She told me go to the store rudely to find out for myself. I told her she was being rude and she told I can't say that and she hung up on me. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!!!!!!! I ordered the Griot and plantains. The plantains were okay but the griot had more fat than meat. I did not finish eating because I noticed some hair on the pork skin which grossed me out. The price was reasonable but definitely not worth my drive. I called ahead of time to place my order, when I got there twenty-five minutes later she asked me if I preferred the sweet plantains of starchy kind fried..should of asked me over the phone that is the whole point of calling ahead. read more
