The diverse content educated on the history of Haiti featuring landmarks and anecdotes. I was first introduced to Jo Jo Fritay during FIFA World Cup activities this summer. Jo Jo shared the history, full menu options and invited me to visit the restaurant. My visit was factored into plans to be in Kennesaw. I truly was appreciative of the information and the continued hospitality from Lalin upon arrival. Lalin was extremely proficient and pleasant when answering all questions we had. She offered thoughtful suggestions as I wanted to try something new. I opted to get my go-to Haitian griot and added the Fritay. Fritay is a combo of fried sides. Not my norm, minus green plantain, but it was an extremely tasty combination of vegetables, green plantain and a dough like fried bread. Pikleaz inclusion was as a must as well as a side of gravy. My meal was enough to satisfy my appetite for two meals. The only thing missing was my obligatory djon djon rice. I was told that black rice (its other name) is only available on Sundays. The people who work there were very pleasant and the selection of food was really good. The place was clean and the had music with an island vibe playing. Probably the best Haitian Restaurant I've been to, but only thing it's too far from me ‍ my barber is in Acworth so I drive that direction. I decided to try this one out, and oh was I satisfied . When I'm in the neighborhood, I try to stop by. My husband is a fan of their Lalo and they give you decent portions as well. The place is small with a few dine in tables but very clean. The decor is colorful so you feel like your in a Caribbean restaurant. You may wait a bit for the food but it's worth it. Delicious Haitian food. Get the fried Turkey, rice and beans as well as the Lalo with white rice. I wish they served the Djon Djon rice AKA black mushroom rice daily. It's only served on Sundays. I've eaten lotssss of Haitian food over the years, and although everyone cooks differently, you can always taste a similar theme throughout-- not this one however lol. It was still tasty but quite unfamiliar at the same time. I've never had sos pwa noir (black bean sauce) that tasted so intensely of ginger and the Lalo was extremely oily, which took away from the enjoyment. It had an intense smoked meat taste, that was nice but overshadowed the "greens" taste you're supposed to get from the Lalo. Overall, I'd order again but maybe try something else. read more

Since moving to Atlanta I've been trying to find a decent place here but after several tries and repeated disappointment I've just about given up. Located in Kennesaw off of Barrett Pkwy in a shopping plaza with plenty of parking around. When I walked in I was greeted by a friendly gentleman who waited patiently while I went over the menu. I had the Vegetable Legume with black rice, macaroni au gratin(definitely smaller than I would have liked) and plantains with passion fruit juice. My parents and I have gotten food from this place for years because it's one of the most authentic Haitian spots we have found (we're Haitian btw )! I usually get the Fried Goat or the Griyo Fritay, and I ordered the Griyo Fritay last night. It was perfectly seasoned and fried without being too greasy. The pikliz was on point as always. I usually prefer my fried plaintains to be a bit thinner so it's crispier, but these still hit as always. 10/10 recommend this place especially if you've never had the pleasure of trying Haitian cuisine! read more

The last time I spoke to the owner about it he claimed the price of meat had gone up but yet his prices have skyrocketed with even fewer food issues for the price. I just bought a turkey with rice and beans for $20. There were just 3 small pieces of turkey in there. Last week I bought legumes with only two small pieces on a bone. Folks, I am suggesting people to start going to the Jamaican restaurants or even the Brazilian buffet on Delk Rd in Marrietta. The food is just about the same with a better presentation. And the price for the buffer is $14 for 11 lbs if you order takeout. I am tired of these games with this Haitian establishment. read more

I came to try some of the food at Jojo Fritay and my experience was just the absolute worst. The Customer service was incoherent and I was left taken aback by it. The guy who took my order acted as him explaining the menu was an inconvenience to him by me trying to understand what was in the food, and what was what. Because I didn't know based off the names what Manyok, laylo, or pate kode, was. The menu was confusing. So I order my food sat down and ate some plaintains and manyok fries and decided to pack it up to go. As I packed up what food that was placed in the white paper bag and not noticing that the bag has soiled due to the pikliz vinegar salad spilling out I proceeded to get up to leave and boom the bag gives out and all my food is now laying on the floor. I'm upset and confused because I ate soft nibbles and now my food is laying on the floor. So I go to the customer service counter and explain that the packaging gave out due to the pikliz vinegar salad had spilled and if it's possible if he can replace the chicken pate kode. So he then proceeds to the back of the restaurant and comes back to the front counter and tells me that he's not comfortable with that and that I could purchase another one. At this point I'm sad and upset but more so due to the irony in "customer service" of replacing a less than $5 pate kode so I leave it at that and go. Reviewing the food, it was cold not so fresh tasting as if it's been sitting out for some time. The plantains-Manyok were extremely stale, the chicken pate kode wasn't the best. Amazing!!!! I drove over an hour to get some of the best tasting Haitian food I've ever eaten outside of a friend's home. I was NOT disappointed!! I did get my food to go, but they do offer dine-in service. The food is set up cafeteria style and I was thrilled for all of the vegan options. I ordered the vegan legume, akra, black rice, marinad, and a sorrel. The vegan legume was by far my favorite and I was missing the spice from the black rice, but the flavors were good. Adding the pikliz made it better. The marinad and akra were delicious and I wish I would've bought more of the akra. The prices for the amount of food you get is fair and definitely two- servings worth. The sorrel was the the only thing that fell flat for me. It had a very clove-ish taste which I'm not use to. I've ordered food here twice, once through grubhub and the second time I ordered directly at the restaurant. Both times the food was hot and fresh, especially especially the pate kode which appears to be made to order as both times it was piping hot. I've had both the herring and the chicken both of which were good, well seasoned. The chicken seemed to have more meat but it's not often you see herring on the menu so maybe it's harder to come by. On both occasions I ordered the chicken, once with mushroom rice, the next with white rice. The chicken itself came in a creole sauce which was so good and well seasoned. Personally I'm not a big fan of the mushroom rice but it seems many are. For the sides I got plantain, akra, and beans. The plantain and akra were both good. The beans seemed to have an overpowering taste from whatever seasoning was used. Overall, I'd definitely give this place a try. Good food and good customer service. Update: The food is still good during these trying times. Only issue is on the menus I've seen, it says lunch ends at 3 but when I called I was told 2. Also, we ordered three meals but only received one pikliz which was a bit disappointing and there was barely any spice to it. Every time I come here, I'm ignored as I stand at the counter. Today was no exception. I walked up to the counter and no one came out for 5 minutes to assist me. A woman finally came from the back because she saw another customer come. She asked him if he needed help and blatantly ignored me even though I had been there first and was waiting politely. Bad enough the young kid at the register was not customer friendly. Bought the Lalo. First experience. It was excellent. Three stars for because customer service was lacking. Ordered plantains, fritars and rice and peas. Instead of rice and peas I got white rice and no plaintains. Called and spoke to woman whom I guess was the manager since Thad who I asked for. She told me to come back for the plaintains. Never addressed the unwanted white rise but I assume she would have taken care of that had I agreed to drive the 30mins to return. Ofcourse I wasn't. Asked how could she fix the issue given I couldn't return. Well by now you've guessed, she didn't make any other offer. A good fix could have looked like, I'll refund a part of your payment or when can you come by to get your plaintains and rice and peas. Proposed fix would have landed them a 5 star positive review. A Haitian restaurant...in a strip mall. YES YOU SHOULD GO AND EAT HERE! This place packs a huge slice profile punch. The Haitian cuisine and vibe is awesome. The red snapper came out of the ocean and cooked and tossed on a plate, the damn fish looked at me with ya eye and said "eat me, I'm freaking delicious" and guess what people reading this....the red snapper was freaking delicious. So tender and flavorful. The squash soup is fantastic with big hearty chunks of goat. The spices and slaw add big flavor to the meats and sides and the sweet potatoes are not overly fried which makes the feeling of this meal a lot more enjoyable. Fresh, tasty and fun, this is the spot to get at while in Kennesaw. Need a bargain hunt break...walk over here and give this place a whirl. I promise you won't be let down. So. I was really excited to see another Haitian restaurant in the area. This is right in the same plaza as bargain hut and tom and Chee! What I loved is that they advertised this as a Haitian restaurant which is a huge deal since most restaurants will highlight the Caribbean culture. We got the griot (fried pork), rice and beans and fried sweet potato ( chunks). The griot had great flavor and the Fritay ( was awesome!) But the rice was a bit hard. I think they could have cooked it a bit longer. Also. It was interesting that they had the food out there for display like other Caribbean restaurants. I asked the owner what part of Haiti and he said the south east. Please note that not all Haitian food is the same and has different accents. For example, their bean sauce had an awesome flavor but different than other parts of Haiti. The prices were decent for the food size around 10 dollars for plate. We also tried the sorrel which had star anise in it (very different). So. The verdict: decent. Not the best. I was excited about a Hatian restaurant finally being in Kennesaw and took the family. It was a nice looking place and the staff was friendly. However unfortunately the food was not good. The only authentic thing was fried plantains and small sample of picklies they give with your dish. The Turkey was tough and didn't have good flavor. The legume was just cabbage. There was no mushroom rice, or red rice and beans. The green sauce which was made of Lima beans was disappointing not authentic as printed on menu. I am sorry but aside from the good service a new chef is in order. The people who had the grios besides us were also not satisfied. Normally my family and I LOVE this place, but yesterday changed my perception. They changed how they present the food. I understand that costs are rising, but there's no excuse for 3 pieces of meat on a tray that we paid almost $20 for. The meat used to be in a separate container with its sauce. Now it just sits in the plate dry. We had to pay for extra sauce. I also had to pay for extra meat just to make it comparable. We've never had to do that before. Lastly, the white rice I had was really hard, which was a first time for us as well. It was just a really frustrating experience.
