Fried Tilapia and Jollof
L J.

Today I had an lovely lunch from Cayce Cafe! I had the Fried Fish with Jollof with a side of nicely ripened plantain. It was soooooo good. Ms. Mercy and Mosu were so nice and helpful. They were even able to share catering info with me. I am so happy I finally have an African food spot to go to regularly.

Peace to you. "Delicious" has its own swagger

The best part of the meal was probably the seasonings they have sitting on the side of the counter where you order. I do not really know who works there. First there was a lady, then there was this kid, but the kid was sitting in the lounge when I first walked in and stood there for about 5 minutes at the bar before the lady in the back who was having a conversation with the lady who makes the food I guess came from behind and walked around to the register. Their menu has absolutely no pricing. I had the peanut butter soup, which was good, but a little disappointing because the majority of the meat was nothing but fat, and there was not that much meat in it honestly. The potato that was in it literally looked like that had just cut it in two and threw it in the soup. It was good, and not that bad portion wise, but if I had known it was almost $20 I probably would have gotten something else. I was hoping to try the hookah while I waited, but evidently all of the hookahs were in need of maintenance, so that was a bust. Would like to go back in the future, maybe when they have a crowd of people or something, but overall I was disappointed.

The woman had an attitude a patron is disturbing her personal phone call. Food: 0 stars: WE ALL GOT SICK, AFTER 1 BITE IT TASTED OLD AND SPOILED, I hate I didn't see the reviews on yelp first. Everyone who ate the food had nausea, vomiting, and extreme diarrhea. One of my colleagues had to be admitted to the hospital and is going to civilly sue.. Price point: 0 stars: the price point doesn't reflect in the portion size, it's a rip off. Go to TOYIN further up the street. Cleanliness/Atmosphere: 0 stars: just don't even bother with this place. I understand some african people cleaning standards are different than others but this place is a dump. We were all crazy as hell for even attempting to eat our food and I'm surprised we all still alive. The temperature in there was just as hot as outside 07/31/24, that was my red flag. Fortunately after 1 bite I stopped so I didn't get as sick as my colleagues that were 3 bites in before they realized it was spoiled/bad. Overall: I wouldn't come back, this place needs to be investigated by the health department and my co worker that was admitted to the hospital is filing complaints and civilly suing.

I got two sides as part of the full combo (salad and plantains). The salad was really fresh and great. The plantains were cooked well but I think they could have used more seasoning. In my hunger I didn't see if there were seasoning shakers, but that could be a nice option. The domoda was great. Savory and slightly spicy. The rice had nice texture too. I'm glad I tried this restaurant. It's my first experience with Gambian/West African cuisines, and I'll be sure to try more around my hometown. This restaurant is fully halal.

This time, the woman taking our order was friendly and even gave our friend a free lemonade; We got our food within 10 minutes. While inside, they were playing afrobeats at a low volume, so we were still able to have conversation without speaking over the music. Regarding the food, I got the impossible shawarma wrap and it was delicious. There was a decent amount of sauce and meat, I just wished there were tomatoes in it as listed. The fries were also pretty good and given in a big portion. 2 of my friends got the chicken shawarma platter and one got a side of plantains. From this rice platter, there was a very small meat:rice ratio in which they had both finished their meat and still had a full bowl of rice. The plantains were really good though. We also got 2 orders of wings and they were decent. Overall, the service was fine, the location is convenient, the food was okay, and the experience was meh. Likely wouldn't come back here, but I also wouldn't tell other people not to come. It just wasn't our cup of tea.
