Pupusas are delicious and cheap! Service is friendly and quick. Pupusas come with cabbage slaw and a red sauce and 2 easily feed one person for a $7 total for a meal read more

Maria's has good pupusas and good prices so this is a great spot if you are craving pupusas and are in the area. The seating area is small so you risk not getting a seat. They also sell baked goods and drinks. read more

Ok ya this is legit. Love love the pupusas! They were so good! Also got the plantins, and the empanadas. Everything was delicious! Small place, is not updated, price was good too. The kids were happy too, and they are picky. Didn't use the bathroom, so not sure. Parking is only on the street, but that is LA for ya. The workers were nice. read more

As much as I love the food here, they rarely answer the phone and are constantly closing early. Boo, get it together.

I ordered two pupusas beans and cheese and a coke. Total was less than $10, it was made fresh, service could be a little better but the lady was working alone. She had to handle The cooking and the front read more

The boyfriend and I decided to try this new thing where we randomly pick a spot to eat without looking at yelp first. We saw this hole in the wall restaurant and decided to just walk in blindly not knowing what they serve. We asked the woman who worked there what was good to eat but there was a language barrier so we used google translate. She recommended the pupusa revueltas and the pasteles de pollo and we also placed an order for salmon. Everything tasted amazing and clean. The pasteles de pollo had a nice fry to it! We are both not a fan of beans but the beans were good! We would definitely go back again. read more

‍ terrible food read more

Delicious pupusas! I recently had a very disappointing street pupusa elsewhere and wanted to scratch that pupusa itch. So glad I came to Maria's! I had two reveulta and one loroca y queso and both were so yummy, freshly made. The cheese pull on the loroca pupusa was amazing. Like so good I did a little dance in my seat. Great value and pleasant service. read more

The only reason I'm putting three stars is because I had made an order online and apparently it doesn't go directly to the restaurant. So when I showed up for my food, it wasn't ready they hadn't answered the phone to receive my order and I had to wait an additional 40 minutes just for my food to be served to me. As far as the food, I got the jalapeño and cheese pupusa and the pork bean and cheese. I enjoyed it. I will return, but next time I will just place my order in person. read more

Food: I got the revuelta and chicharron pupusas. Both were great and full of cheese. The pickled cabbage and red sauce went well with the pupusas. Service: The waiters/waitresses don't speak much English so I recommend that you know what you want before you order. They're super friendly. I also recommend you call in your order because it can be a bit of a wait like 20 to 30 min. I waited 20 min for 2 pupusas for reference. I don't mind waiting for food, but you gotta be prepared if you're on your lunch break. Value: Cheap and filling. Worth it for 2.50 a pupusa! I'd come again. Parking: Street parking is available. read more

My go to pupusas spot. Everything about their food was delicious and their service was to tier. I also ordered the horchata and it was like horchata straight from El Salvador. amazing to say the least. I will be coming regularly with my family read more

BEST PUPUSAS IN LA!!! No joke and extremely affordable. They also have a candy store like section with cup soups for the kids. Cozy and peaceful place to eat read more

The pupusas are stuffed and oozing cheese, so good! I get the pupusas with cheese and loroco and bean and cheese. Both are delish and jam packed with cheese. They are hearty, I am full after two. They are generous with the curtido (pickled cabbage), too. I do agree with one of the other reviews that they are a little slow, but we had no problem today with takeout. The desayuno tipico (Salvadoran breakfast with blended black beans, plantains, eggs, cheese and crema) is also really good here. I've also had the chicharron and yucca fries, so crispy and meaty pieces of crispy pork. YUM!! Love this place! read more

Pretty solid meal with reasonable proportions for reasonable prices. I sampled platanos fritos solo (fried plantains) and three of the pupusas: queso con frijoles, queso con loroco, and queso. The fried plantains were probably the best fried plantain experience I've had yet. In the past, I've found that it's hard to get a good enough crisp on the outside of the plantain while keeping the inside soft (most places either just achieve darkened but soft plantains or dried out plantains); Maria's plantains were more along the lines of what I was hoping for, sufficient crisp on the outside while maintaining the sweet plantain texture. Pupusas were quite good, my preference stack rank: 1) queso con loroco , 2) queso con frijoles, 3) queso. I'd say don't go the just cheese route -- was a bit too much cheese. But con loroco was the clear winner with con frijoles a close second. The loroco pupusa was honestly the best loroco pupusa experience I've had. Really good experience. Will definitely order from here again. Staff were also really friendly and efficient. read more

My waiter was super friendly But everyone else made me feel like a by nuance to be fair huge bday party happening but I ordered spaghetti & meatballs except with angel hair they goofed it not even a sorry from manager again waiter super friendly although I do believe there should be a cap on how many times you can call someone ma'am I know this is a local family business but don't recognize anyone makes me wonder if they sold ?? It just does not have same friendly neighborhood feel been coming here several times a month for years Food still good but kind of let down tonight All that being said I will be back read more

I came here for the Papusas--they were incredible! I tried the queso y loroco, queso y chicharron, and queso y frijoles. All of them were excellent but the chicarron was my favorite. I also appreciated that they were all priced reasonably at $3 each and were ready in less than 15 min. The cabbage was fresh, sauce was flavorful, and nothing was greasy, which was a delight. Will definitely come back! read more

If you want amazing pupusas this is definitely the spot. They are so good not greasy. The horchata is good. This place is worth the drive and worth the wait. Yes you will be waiting a while for your food but that's because there's only 2 ladies taking orders, serving people and cooking the food. You definitely have to be patient I suggest you call it in. The place is definitely a hole in the wall and definitely has that feel but it makes it that much better. Just be patient, call it in and enjoy these amazing pupusas. read more

I don't normally go out of my way to post reviews, but this place was amazing. Great good and great prices. I first went here a few months ago and got the carne asada con chorizo plate which was spectacular. The meat was perfectly seasoned. The rice was fluffy and flavorful and the beans were perfect. Today I decided to try the pupusas (currently only $2.75 a piece) which is a F***ing deal. THEY WERE INCREDIBLE. I went with the revuelta pupusas, but I have a feeling you can't go wrong with any of them. I couldn't recommend them higher. Just a heads up if you don't speak Spanish there will be a language barrier here. read more

Wow these are some really amazing Pupusa's. Maybe even the test i've ever tasted. That was what came out of everyone's mouth once we tasted them. Everything, was perfect. This restaurant claims they have the best pupusas in town, and most of the reviewers seem to agree. Too bad I'll never get to taste them, because their service is SO. DAMN. SLOW. After placing our order and waiting FORTY minutes, the food still hasn't come. A table across from us, who had been there before us, finally gets a bowl of soup. I'm flabbergasted. I thought they were finishing up when we got there, but they were actually still waiting on their food. Now I'm really upset. There were three other tables still waiting... how much longer until our order comes?! In fact, the table with the soup seemed equally frustrated that one of them gets up and asks for a container for the soup to get it to go, and they leave. I'm guessing they still had other dishes but wanted to just get the heck out of there. I finally ask my husband to nicely check in, and it turns out they haven't even started on our food yet! Now I'm triggered, and not to mention hangry, and so we decide to leave as well. Sorry Maria's, but I'm not sure your pupusas are worth waiting an eternity for. read more

Let's just say that this place does not deserve any slamming of brakes or perilous U turns mid-Fig St. In fact I would go as far to say the exact opposite. Find that gas pedal and push with all of your might till all you see is a blue and yellow streak that says Maaaaarrrriiiiiiaaaaassssssssss vrooom! It started off well enough. I find street parking up front, take a shot of the sign, walk up the stairs. It's a small place, not fancy but has three big red booths with comfy seating. People are here and look happy. I order in the separate nook where they have a single little table and the counter. The lady was friendly and took my order of fried yucca, fried pork, with rice and beans, two tortillas, and salad. $5.99. Cha-ching! Right? What the hell, for that price I'll tag on a Mexican soda with the real sugar too. I sit down by a nice window seat and wait, and wait, and, no, actually only two waits, not that bad. Wow, big, thick, finger length chunks of fried yucca root, fried pork chunks (didn't look too good), a lemony salad of chopped radish, cucumber, lettuce, and carrots, and a whole bucket of pickled cabbage all to myself, but what to put it on? So I grab a piece of pork, it's very crispy. Suspiciously crispy. Crispy like a broken plastic cup crispy, Ok, into mouth and, one chew, hmmm, two chews, this is weird, three chews, what IS this?, four chews, this is straw, grab napkin, Ok, out of mouth. Seriously impossible to eat, no kidding, seriously, and for reals. Now the yucca was a different story. This was actually good but alas there was nothing to dip it in or put on it but it was so good I made my way through four chunks and then realized part of my smorgasbord was missing. No rice, beans or tortillas! Hey, they promised!! Up to the counter to reinstate my order. Back to the table to wait, and wait, and, ok here it is. A small plate of soupy beans and very, very mediocre rice. The tortillas looked like they had just popped open the pack and nuked'em for a couple minutes. Somehow the beans tasted ok, some bean flavor there but not much else. Hey, I was looking for any sunshine I could find. Well, I left a buck, most of my food, and headed for the hills feeling jilted and finagled. I want to go back to try the .99 pupusa special but I refuse to, I do have my pride! read more

Delicious food, good service the prices are good. Also the place is the small pot very comfy.

I haven't been to many salvadorean spots in the area, but I'm salvadorean af and can confidently say that these pupusas are legit. Aside from a bit more masa than my mom would make them, the flavor is there!! The curtido is great, not too salty and perfectly spicy. The salsa roja is a tiny bit watery but compared to some places I've been, it's good and it has a nice flavor. Bottom line: reminds me of home. Give them a try. read more

My husband is Salvadorean and these are the best pupusas we've had in the neighborhood. Pupusas taste home made, super tasty, the masa is soft and freshly made (unlike other places that just reheat pupusas). The two ladies are nice and hard working. If you eat pupusas often, you know they take time to make! So I suggest you call and order ahead if you're not a patient person. They come very well packed, nice size and they are very generous with their sides. Maria's is AWESOME! read more
