Overall, this is a great small family operated Mexican restaurant serving some terrific east Texas authentic Mexican cuisine. We had the chile rellenos, quesadilla, and the delicious carne asada steak and all were really good as were the chips and salsa. The burrito was perfect with the white queso and my partner enjoyed the enchilada platter. Our waitress Kelly was simply awesome as well. We ate here because it was close to our hotel. We almost passed it by because there weren't many reviews, but it looked like a nice place with a decent crowd. Service was quick and the food was very good. Portion sizes were good and prices were decent. I suspect that it doesn't have as many reviews because they don't seem to serve alcohol, but we had no complaints on the enchilada dinner or the burrito gordo. We left full and happy. After reading the other reviews, I have to wonder if some of them went to the same restaurant that we did. All of the wait staff was Hispanic and the salsa wasn't watery. The service was the best thing here today, but the avocado enchiladas were very disappointing! I mean, it was simply cut up avocados thrown into a flour tortilla with cheese sauce on top. If there were any seasonings, I couldn't taste any. The rice and beans were nothing special either. I was very disappointed! The clue should've been the country and western music coming over the speakers. The waitresses even sang along! Obviously, no one here is Hispanic. Including sweet tea, this meal came to over $15. The only reason I gave two stars was because the food was edible, instead of offensive. To be honest, there's much better Mexican food everywhere else in Kilgore. The service was good. The waitresses are very nice and the Ambiance is alright. What sucks most is the food. The food is so sickening it made me throw up in the bathroom. The chicken wasn't fully cooked, but the boss said "no chicken alright" I am fed up with this place because of this treatment. The boss is racist and she doesn't think the food causes sickness. This is our first and last visit. After mixed reviews from family and friends we decided to try it after church service. We should have listened to the ones who said "no". I can usually base the rest of the meal from the chips and salsa. Our chips were very hard so our expectations drooped a little. We asked for new ones but I think they just took our old ones in back and warmed them up. I ordered the chimichanga with rice/beans. My wife got the taco salad and our daughter went with chicken nuggets. I believe she had a premonition. My wife's taco salad was sitting in water and grease. She said there was no flavor to the meat and was just bland. My chimichanga was the same. If it wasn't for the white blanco cheese there would have been no flavor. Stopped in Kilgore overnight on our way home from vacation. My family and I enjoyed the food and waiter was exceptionally polite and attentive. I would definitely recommend Maria's. The food is good. Even though the hot sauce looks watery, dont let it fool you. It has a little kick to it. The avocado enchiladas are my favorite when they use the guacamole versus just the avocados. The customer service is always great. :) The only thing that bothers me is that it smells like it's been cleaned with dirty water. It used to smell so nice in there. read more

I have been going to this restaurant and ordering the same thing for years. Today I was charged an additional 4.00$ for queso on my rice. When I asked about the charge I was told "Well I guess the other waitress's were just being nice". So after going in for a 6.59$ lunch special and receiving a bill for 15.04$ and after talking to their teenage management, it is safe to say I will never visit this establishment again! Beware of unknown and hidden charges. Customer service is something they definitely need training on. read more

Took all of my family here when they first opened. It was not busy at all, we had to seat our selves, had to ask for menus, there was only 1 waitress and about 4 other tables. Got out order placed and it took forever to get our food. She delivered the food and we just sat there. She never gave us and silverware. Caught her as she was walking buy to inform we needed something to eat with... She said ok, went into the kitchen and brought out food for other people. Still no silverware. Asked again, ok, she said... Still nothing so I got up and went and got it myself. The food was bland, service horrible, but I will give it another try. Maybe there will be better wait staff and food will be better, might just have been unorganized due to just being newly opened? read more
