Maria's Mexican Restaurant absolutely delivered. We ordered the combo fajitas for two as a pickup and it was only $40 -- which is beyond reasonable for the schmacking quality they gave us. The portions were generous, everything was fresh, and the flavor was on point. The meat was tender and seasoned perfectly. The peppers were cooked just right -- flavorful with that perfect bite. Every single part of it was straight up schmacking. Service was phenomenal too. Nothing but happy faces and great energy when we picked up our order. You can tell they care. And I'm convinced the chef was wearing a smile while making this meal, because that kind of flavor only comes from someone putting love into the food. This place shares a parking lot with a gas station, but don't let that stop you from stopping by. The food is amazing, the staff were all super friendly and attentive. The place is larger than expected and has a super fun vibe. I almost expect them to move some tables and give Salsa or Bachata lessons (( hint hint, if the owner reads this)) I think this might be my favorite spot for Mexican food now. They give complimentary chips and salsa the red one is okay, but if you ask for their spicy salsa, they'll bring it out, and personally, that one is really good. To drink, I got the agua de Jamaica. It was good, not overly sweet, and they also offer free refills, which is always a plus. I ordered the steak fajita quesadillas with grilled onions, tortilla soup, and sour cream enchiladas. All three items were good. I wasn't really feeling the rice, but the beans were much better. Service was quick, and the staff was friendly. read more

The very first time we came here the Steak Poblano was amazing, but 3 times in a row now it has been terrible. The meat tastes off, is tough, and the shrimp tasted funny. Twice now the frozen margaritas with swirls have had a blue cheese taste to them. It has not been nice. We want to like this place and the two times we had the chicken that was good. It could be that they overcooked the steak the past few times. The first time it was really good. We've given it enough tries now and will not be back. The atmosphere is loud and could use with some noise dampening. Customers don't really need to hear what is going on in the kitchen or a screaming baby across the other side of the restaurant. Great place, first visit! Fairly large seating area. Service is very good! Love their chips, however they are the thicker chips, which makes them great for dipping! The salsa was excellent, with just the right amount of bite! There were four of us we had different dishes, all of which were excellent! Everybody says you can't get a bad meal here. The service at Maria's is top notch. Love the bright colors and Mexcian decor. It's a little tricky to find. I wouldn't drive a long way to eat here. If there was a contest for the most disappointing Mexican food in town, this place would take first prize without even trying. The queso came out as one solid block of yellow, with zero seasoning, and possibly no jalapeños at all. Honestly, a jar of Tostitos queso from Walmart would have put it to shame. I ordered the chimichanga with fajita beef--big mistake. It looked sad and tasted worse, like the cow had given up halfway through life. My date's enchiladas weren't any better--the chicken was somehow bone-dry, despite being drowned in sour cream sauce. The refried beans were pale and looked like they'd been cooked by someone who's never seen a bean before. The cheese enchilada tasted like someone hacked off a slice from a block of government cheese and hoped the oven would finish the job. Spoiler: it didn't. The service matched the food--mediocre at best. I had to ask several times for water, even while the server made eye contact with me, like we were in a silent stand-off. Visited for lunch today, this place is in an odd location and it's surprisingly large on the inside. The staff and service was great, however the food was just your average run of the mill Mexican. Large menu of numbered items that all blend together by the time you choose. Rice and beans I thought were actually below average with no flavor. The one bright spot was the Shrimp Cocktail. It was very good and had a lot of large shrimp vs the small or chopped up shrimp you usually see. Besides that, it's just your average blah Mexican food. read more

My husband said his burrito was good, but I was disappointed with the chimichanga. Good food and service can be great depending on how the staff feels. It's clearly family owned and ran. So the waiters know the locals and will prioritize the people they know. Food taste good but prices have gone up making it not as appealing as it use to be. Parking is not good. No lines lead to people parking to close and hitting your car. No waiting area really. And again if the staff are in good modes it's a decent speed and you'll be happy. If they aren't, you will be waiting for someone to get you a table then waiting for the waiter. And good luck with refills. For Melissa it's a good options. If you can drive out then I'd hit McKinney up for sure. Honestly the charro bean soup, which was fantastic, is the reason for the three stars otherwise this would be one star. I wish I would have looked at the pictures on Yelp first before ordering the queso because it's clear that this is not homemade and it's one of those canned nacho cheeses that you can find at the football stadium which is absolutely disgusting. There was zero meat in my queso so I'm not sure what happened there. Chips were not good. The chicken was okay but the rice and beans had zero flavor. Salsa was subpar. Had a wonderful experience. We started with a shrimp cocktail and it was not only the most flavorful shrimp cocktail I have ever had, it was loaded with shrimp. Also cheaper than some at other restaurants. I ordered the cheese chilli Relano, subbed the rice and beans with a salad and it was so good! Loaded with cheese! I forgot the name of my husbands dish but he really liked it. One of my Son's ordered the kids cheeseburger and it was huge, my other son got the kids quesadilla and it was also a good size with lots of cheese. Don't pass this place up!!! I almost did an now I'm glad I came in. Chips where hot and hot sauce fresh and on point, I got the chicken and beef enchilada lunch with sour cream sauce on both.
