We had a really nice experience at Mesa, especially considering we were dining with a baby (always a wild card ). The margarita was good and strong -- definitely not watered down, which I appreciated. The salsa and beans were delicious, fresh and flavorful, and a great way to start the meal. I ordered the fajitas, and they were cooked really well and tasted great. The only surprise was that they didn't come with cheese and sour cream, which felt a little unusual for fajitas, but it didn't take away too much from the overall dish. Big shoutout to our server, who was wonderful with our baby -- patient, kind, and super accommodating, which made the whole meal much more relaxing for us. We originally just came in for churros. I couldn't help trying everything else out. The restaurant is very spacious and there are a lot of tables and a good bit of booths also. The restrooms were nice and cleaned and smelled good and the staff was very delightful to be around. Everything looked delicious. I got a brisket taco à la cart as well as a ground beef taco. The kids plates offered a good bit of food. I was able to order three kids meals and my four kids were able to share them because it was so much food. And they are getting five stars for the churros because that's why we came and they were very good. read more

Today I ordered by phone, 2 cheese enchilada dinners with ranchera sauce to be picked up at 5. I was 5 minutes early and it was not ready, I said no problem I'm early. I got my order and when I got home, both orders have Chile con carne. What a disappointment, they don't even taste like enchiladas. SO WOW 5 stars is not enough for this Mexican food... Restaurant its self is not really decorated, like no pictures or decor on the walls type of deal. Menus are old looking and pictures of the food look like they were taken on a Motorola flip phone. Service was great, we had no wait on a Friday night and the servers were on point all night. We ordered the chile Relleno with ground beef and rice and beans. The Birria Tacos only come with rice for some reason. Both were you absolutely amazing, we are talking flavor town. We will definitely be back for the food, probably wouldn't go on a date night again but every other night I'm definitely down to go. This used to be our "go to" restaurant...after a school function, birthdays, summers after the pool, just because. It was our favorite! There has always been something for everyone and family friendly. The staff was fabulous as well. Friends and I were here last Saturday night and when we walked in it was half capacity. Weird... We sat and noticed half the normal wait staff was gone. Ordered a drink. It was undrinkable, seriously undrinkable. I asked if there was a new bartender and was told "yes." Our server took the drink back. The next was still REALLY bad. (I'm NEVER one to complain.) My son ordered tomales, and apparently there was a problem with those too. Wasn't sure what until our server returned with just a pile of ground meat with beans and rice on the side. New "chef"??? Okay, well he was still hungry, so... Lastly, he ordered sopapilla's. Let's throw caution to the wind. Maybe they will be good. They were fine, buuuut that did NOT seem like real honey. Heavy sigh... I'm told it has new owners. Just a friendly message. Decided to have delivery instead of going in. Online was pretty easy to do. A variety of options to choose from. I ordered around 5:45p on a Mon. The order was here by 6:30. Which isn't bad. I did enjoy the food. It was good and hot when delivered. I got the enchilada platter. Gave you the options to choose which type of topping, Verde, salsa, and sour cream. That's what I got came with rice and beans and a taco on the side. Ordered a side of guacamole. It was really good, but they served in a 3 ounce cup with maybe ounce of guac. It seems the food should be better for the price paid, but again, it is ok - just not as good as some others further away. The table side guacamole is worth doing, and the queso is too. This is a no-frills type of restaurant without any elaborate decor. Nevertheless, you can get great food at very reasonable prices here! The lunch specials are worth taking a look at. My husband and I stopped by for a late lunch today and shared the Parrillada Mesa which is a trio of grilled shrimp, beef fajitas, and grilled chicken for two. It was beautifully put together over a bed of grilled veggies (squash, zucchini, mushrooms, peppers, carrots, and onions). As far as flavor goes, the shrimp and steak tasted good but I was honestly thrown off by the purple color of the steak and there wasn't any "fibers" visible. It almost made me believe I was eating something else other than beef. Maybe liver? LOL I would have loved for the steak to have been grilled longer to capture more of that charcoal flavor. The chicken I felt had no flavor at all and was my least favorite. Chips were fresh and hot. Salsa tasted great too! Our waiter Rafael was extremely sweet and we truly valued his service. read more

This is a review for their catering. We have been patrons of Mesa's since it opened. Before that we were regulars at the location on 380. My husband was throwing me a surprise birthday party and used Mesa's to cater the occasion. I have always been the one to order the catering for every event or party we have hosted. So, this was my husbands first experience with catering. He called Pablo and told him he was throwing a party for 30 people and that he wanted to order beef and chicken fajitas for the occasion. He left it up to Pablo for how many pounds of Meet it should be. Pablo, the manager, sold my husband 1 pound of chicken and 1 pound of beef. Anyone who caters parties knows that the rule of thumb is half pound of meat per person. When my husband got home and he was placing the food into our metal catering warming bins he quickly realized this was only enough food for 5 people. He had to leave in the middle of the party to purchase 4 more pounds of fajitas. Not, only did they not sell my husband an adequate amount of food for 30 people, but they also did not give my husband chips, guacamole, or cheese which are all clearly stated to come with the fajitas from the catering menu. They also charged him for salsa, beans, and rice which is supposed to come with the fajitas as well. I can not tell you how disappointed I am with a restaurant we frequent quite regularly. Do not use them to cater your event. They will overcharge you for the items you order and will not give you the items listed on the catering brochure. read more

Wanted food to go- hostess told me to order at the bar. I sat there for 10 minutes ( there were only 3 other customers at the bars who were sipping drinks) Bartender never acknowledged me - continued making drinks for servers. A manager went behind the bar and started making drinks, also didn't acknowledge me. He took the drinks to a table. I can't comment on the food because I got up and left. I asked FOUR times for round chips; I prefer the thicker round ones with queso. There was a huge language barrier between my waiter and I and he brought me ranch on the third request. So finally I just had to flag down a manager who then brought me five round chips. Yep. Five round chips. I got a number three which has a chicken enchilada and a brisket taco. The brisket was too chewy and the chicken was hard, like hammered on the flattop hard. The brisket needed some sort of sauce to pull it together instead of all the oil. Nothing tasted very fresh; I pretty much got the feeling on Thursday afternoon that I was eating Wednesday night's leftovers. Overall, I won't be back. read more

We have frequented the restaurant in Allen and this was our first time at the McKinney location. This says a lot about the quality of the food and our experience from this group. This review is purely on our experience at this location. The restaurant is spacious, clean and comfortable. The best part of our experience was the service. Our server was very helpful and gave us suggestions when we asked him. The service was prompt but not rushed. He checked on us without being intrusive. Overall an excellent experience. It will be difficult to decide between the Allen and the McKinney location to visit. read more

Been there two times. First time, food came out cold. Second time, (May 5th), service was absolutely terrible. I understand that on Cinco de Mayo it is gonna be busy, but my friend and I sat at the table for 30 minutes and didn't get any water. Table behind us was also frustrated with the service and said they arrive ten minutes before us and wasn't able to order their food. At least they got water. I waived a hostess down and she said she will find someone. Finally, when a waiter came to our table (30 minutes after being seated), he said that he will be with us in "two seconds". He walked over to two other tables and back into the kitchen. We waited for another 5 minutes. At that point, we have had enough. Busy or not, a table should not have to sit and wait for 30 mins to be even asked what to drink. I was fine waiting for the food, but felt completely ignored by all of the wait staff. read more
