Came here because the wait at Eggcited was too long and we'd been wanting to try this spot for a while. The hostess doubled as the only server in the restaurant, but service was hospitable and prompt. However, there also weren't many people there at noon on a Saturday (even though there was a long line next door) and with no music playing it felt a bit depressing. The food was the biggest disappointment. The carnitas were dry, with an odd mix of shredded meat and large, chewy chunks. The rice was also dry, and instead of the fresh cilantro and pico de gallo listed with the dish, it came with a corn salsa containing what tasted like stewed canned tomatoes. Overall, the meal lacked the freshness I was expecting. The bathrooms also needed attention. There was paper on the floor, and an unflushed toilet full of visible waste, which didn't leave a great impression. Would not come back, and wish I'd had patience to stick it out next door. read more

I've driven by this place for a while, but never had a reason to stop until I was invited to meet up with a group of friends for dinner. The service was wonderful, everyone so kind and on top of things. My standard for a Mexican Restaurant is the chips & salsa and these were not great, in my opinion. They weren't un-editable so I at them, it's so hard to say no to chips & salsa, but they weren't at the top of my favorites list. The menu is small, but there really seems to be something for everyone. I decided to try the Salmon Tacos - blackened Atlantic salmon + avocado, elote & chipotle aioli (which I nixed because it's has dairy). I asked it was possible to get them a la carte without rice & beans and there was not so I ordered the whole thing. I laughed when I saw them - I've never seen salmon cut so pencil thin. I was glad there were three of them because I was hungry! The corn tortillas were good, not house-made, the salmon was okay, but not great - at least the avocado was fresh! The rice was hard & not very tasty, but I ate it because I was so hungry. I didn't touch the beans as they couldn't confirm if they had dairy or not in them. I did order a margarita and it was good, although there was A LOT of ice. I wouldn't choose to go back here, but if I was invited I'd probably eat before and just order guacamole to eat the okay chips with (wink). read more

I have lived in the Dallas area and have been in pursuit of good Mexican food. We took for granted how good we had it living in San Antonio. This one really hit the spot today for location, price, value and taste. The menu in my opinion at first glance was limiting but they made up for it in taste. The chips and salsa were very tasty and had just the right amount of zing. My wife had an enchilada plate and I had the pollo asado. The food arrived hot and well prepared for both of us. The beans were okay as we are big fans of correct beans and their only offering was the refried black beans. If that is the worst thing I have to call it a win. The servings were plenty and the food arrived promptly after placing our order. We will definitely be back and for the time being based on the factors I mentioned will likely be a place we return very soon. read more

I've been a long time fan of Petra. The last couple visits have beem challenging. The staff seems more interested in talking to each other than actually tending to their customers. Placed a to go order because I was short on time, only to arrive to realize that they hadn't prepared anything, and then didn't Include all the items in my order. I stopped in for a late lunch today while I was out today after a meeting, I have driven by many times but decided to stop and give it a try. It was close to 3:30, so not many patrons inside. The decor is clean and uncluttered. I decided to sit outside on the small patio, the tables and chairs are colorful with a bright yellow awning overhead. I had chips and salsa delivered immediately, served with two salsa options, one red, one green. Both salsa's have a good flavor. Then I sat, and sat, and sat. I hadn't eaten all day so was incredibly hungry so went inside to the bar and asked for a server to come out and see me and ordered a beer from the bartender. Walking back to my table the beer is warm so I turn right around and asked for a cold one. Bartender laughs and says he just put them in the fridge. The server finally came out and was friendly, took my order and had some good suggestions from the menu. I ordered a sour cream enchilada and a Baja fish taco (with no tomato or onion) rice and borracho beans. The Baja fish taco came out unfortunately with onions that I picked off but still tasted very strongly of onions. The enchilada had a creamy sauce and was really nice but rice and beans were very bland. I don't often give 2 stars but the experience was worthy of it in my opinion. read more

On our continued search for good Mexican food, we came across Petra! We got an order of chips and guac for the table to share and it was okay, nothing special. Their salsas were better- one verde is spicier than the other red salsa. But what we really went for was the sour cream enchiladas and y'all it lives up to the hype. The chicken is a shredded into a light flour tortilla with cheese but their sour cream sauce was what sold it. We also chose the shrimp tacos to share, the shrimp is bland by itself but the green cream and cole slaw is where it's at. Beans and rice were okay as well. Portion sizes and prices were average and reasonable, so we'd likely return but for their speciality items and desserts! read more

Disappointing. Never ever believe the Pictures or Reviews. I'm convinced all of them are FAKE. I ordered the Chicken taquitos and churros for dessert. I ordered everything together had I had taste my entrée first I would've NEVER ordered Dessert. First Bite of the and I got a BONE the flavor was gamy and bland. The churros Were over fried Bread Dough with Cinnamon and sugar. Each one easily weighed a half pound that's how thick they are. My absolute new favorite Mexican restaurant!! I grew up in San Antonio and have struggled to find great and authentic Mexican food in DFW. This place was phenomenal. It's gorgeous inside, family owned and operated, and NO SEED OILS. The food tasted so fresh and the spicy margarita was incredible. We will definitely be back. This place is solid Mexican food, very clean and well decorated. The blackened salmon tacos was excellent, the pork taco was to sweet for my taste. You get 2 salsas with chips and they are both excellent, chips are also great and have salt on them so need to add any. Like many people I have driven by for years, finally stopped in for lunch. HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!! And the place was even empty. After my hamburger was delivered to the table, I had to get up and find someone to say that it was missing things that were supposed to come on the burger (like the avocado....why I ordered it). The waitress never checked in after delivering the burger. I had to get up two other times. The second to ask for ketchup and the third to ask for my bill and a box. Food was just mediocre. Such a bummer! The staff just wanted to chitchat with each other. The guy at the hostess stand was nice and helpful though. Petra is finally open with its new location on 380 in front of Tucker Hill. The inside is light and bright with tons of sunlight from the wall of windows. It is a full service restaurant, verses the old location that was counter service. As a bonus it also has a patio. I know it looks like from the street that it has a rooftop patio, but unfortunately Keller Williams owns that roof. I'm not sure what Keller Williams needs with a rooftop?? The chips come with two salsas. One is a tomatillo salsa and the other is tomato based. Both did not have much heat. We started with a bowl of queso with chirizo. It was delicious! It was creamy and the charizo was a great accompaniment. I had the shrimp tacos. They were ok. I wouldn't order it again. The shrimp were tiny. The charro beans were under seasoned and lacking flavor. Hubby had the steak tacos, he felt the same way, they were just OK. At the old location I always had salads. Going west on 380 and saw this name right of the street PETRA it caught my eye because that was my grandmas name. It happens to be a Mexican restaurant and it looked like it was closed so the only way to find out is by turning the car around and investigate. Well y'all it was open and the food was FANTASTIC!!!! Had the chicken quesadillas and lord have mercy it had flavor, seasoning and to be honest the best quesadillas EVER!!!!! Super cozy place and the service is great. Went here for the first time and it may just be a new favorite for me. The chips were fresh and salsa was good. I had the signature sour cream chicken enchiladas and those were so good. They fill it with a lot of chicken and their sauce was good and flavorful. I like that they put a lot of sauce over the enchiladas. The lime rice and beans it came with were also good. I didn't really discover this place until after the pandemic began, and as a result, all of my dining experience is either outdoor (once) or takeout (a bunch of times), so I can't speak to the ambiance or decor, nor the drinks. The food, however, has been very good. The signature sour cream chicken enchiladas are a signature dish for a reason. They're outstanding. The sour cream sauce has a subtle flavor that I can't really put my finger on, but it complements the chicken and tortilla nicely. The chicken itself is well seasoned, and the overall dish (including beans and rice) are definitely something that comes home with me often. Other favorites are the chorizo queso as an appetizer, and several of the taco offerings (fish and shrimp are both really good). Overall, it's a solid place, and I'm looking forward to being able to dine in when it's safe. read more
