I'm from the Bay Area.. and I am Hispanic. I love Chile Relleno but it is a lot of work to make them. So my first time there the manager, the owner was very friendly. I ordered the chill. I came home to Paradise to weed my lot and finally got a chance to visit Maria's Kitchen. There is a stunning Paradise Strong mural and customers painted a beautiful baking scene, donkey signs, and Maria herself! I am vegan and loved that I could have a veggie option. So delish! read more

It's taqueria style nice but not a restaurant style look & feel. There are rules about chips, requests and something about plates that come with chips taped to every table. Ayayay! We ordered two plates, enchiladas and chile rellano. I didn't want to create waves by asking for chips so I bought a basket. The meals came out separately and the noise of the microwave bell and having delivered a plate... one by one. Didn't appreciate the micro heat and made the beef steak meat rubbery in the enchilada. There's a certain clientele niche here, I'm not sure I'll be a part of it. Yes, there is a nice mural of "Paradise strong" on the wall. read more

The owner is an authentic Mexican food chef, and her daughter is a very good worker. The interior is rather dated, but the outside is nice. The food didn't hit the spot for me, and it is expensive. Others may like the taste more than I did. read more

The servers are very nice. However,they served my husband his food at least 10 minutes before I got mine. Of course he didn't want to eat til mine came, then it was cold. We didn't care for the food nor all the sauce on the plate. read more

The food is just okay. The owner raised her prices more than 40%, when inflation is only 10%. A children's burrito was $4.00 in April 2022, and 7 months later it is $5.50. Way too much money to pay for just mediocre food. I would rather eat at Taco Bell, it is much cheaper, tastes better, and much more affordable. read more

Edit: After being publicly "called out" by the restaurant's owner, due to a negative comment I made (similar to this review), on a local rants and raves page, and getting a very snarky email from the owner, I wish I could give less than 1 star. There was a group post made about this restaurant, with hundreds of positive and some negative comments. She chose to make a new post and tag me on it, which made me the target of lots of nasty commentary. There was no apology offered or invitation to return and make sure it was better. I want to emphasize that this was not just personal taste; this was food that should not have been served to anyone. She has a lot of community support, as evidenced by the multiple bashings I took from locals who don't like criticism of their faves. I suggested that she could learn from negative reviews, as well as positive. Original review: I eagerly awaited the opening of an authentic Mexican restaurant in my town. After eating here once, I am still waiting. I ordered chicken tamales and what I got was clearly the last thing they had left in the pan. They should have thrown them out. It was 3 half pieces of tamales and looked like the leftovers from a few plates that had been left uneaten. Just awful. The refried beans had zero seasoning. Not even salt. Inedible. My husband had a chili relleno that was also way over-cooked and probably the last bit scraped from the corner of the pan. Hard, crispy and served in a big mess. He was supposed to have tortillas, which they left out of our order. The chips, which we paid extra for, were clearly scooped from one of this giant bags you get from Costco, for $3.00. I love Mexican food and after moving to Paradise and trying Meehos, well, I should've known Meehos would be disappointing just by how they misspell their business name. I continued my search for delicious Mexican food in Paradise and found Maria's! Although it's not the best Mexican I've had, she has a nice sized menu and I appreciate that she offers vegan and vegetarian options as well. Supporting local restaurants is so important, now more than ever! I'll continue supporting Maria's, but I'd like to see improvements in quality of ingredients, seasoning more and making truly authentic chips, instead of store bought. read more

My husband and I went to Maria's Kitchen today and ordered two chicken enchilada plates and the food was awful, had absolutely no flavor, the refried beans tasted like out of the can and over cooked. The enchiladas had no flavor and the chips were old and the salsa tasted like crushed tomatoes from a can. And it was very expensive for what we got. We will NEVER go there again! After eating here today this is easily the best Mexican food in Butte County. The chile relleno I ordered was amazing along with the beans and rice. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. I can't wait to come back here and try out their enchiladas, tamales, and chile verde. Maria is very nice along with the entire staff. I highly recommend Maria's Kitchen. read more
