I'm glad someone else had a bad experience at this store. I had a horrible experience here, that I felt wasn't appropriate to share, but now I do. When the store first opened, I like a robot, went three days in a row. Impressed, wowed. Wine, hot bar, sushi, bakery, beautiful. Then it happened. I walked into the store, and right at the entry way, I thought someone spilled pork chops, meatballs and gravy on the floor, but quickly it was confirmed: someone had gone #2, on the floor in the store. It's like a car accident, you can't help but look. There are some special needs people who live on Skokie Blvd. The culprit. Anyways, the employees were all standing around in awe, I don't blame them. But 2 minutes became 15 minutes, and that's when I realized that this was my last time at this store. Managers, cashiers, nobody took charge. It just sat there. Granted, it was disgusting, I thought to myself, if this happened at Sunset Foods, this situation would be corrected in seconds. And that, my friends sums up my experience at this store. And this is why I won't cheat on Sunset ever again. I understand the store was new at the time, and that this situation was out of there control, I get it. If someone from the management responds I'll be happy to erase this, I just want to share it with my fellow yelpers. read more

Dear Mariano's- I keep trying you but your service is horrible. I can only assume this is from poor management. Employees seem crabby. They don't speak or even acknowledge you when checking out. When it's busy and new registers open, they don't take the next person in line - it's whoever cuts out first. Sorry, but I'm sticking with Whole Foods. Way better organic selection and much more professional, knowledgable employees. read more

I was super excited when this store was opened since it was the first full size store within 4 miles. I live around the corner from them. That being said I thought things would get better after they went through the initial opening. I've seen unsanitary practices in the deli and reported it twice now. The deli guy just used his gloved hand to clean things off the scale and thinks he's OK to just keep handling food. Disgusting. Be sure to check your receipt. I've had two instances of mispriced items that I've caught. Who knows how many have not been caught. Like I said - I live nearby. Don't go out of your way to get here! read more

Geez...Mariano's locations are popping up all over the place! We stopped at this one since we were nearby and it was similar to their other new locations (though much smaller than the one at Willow and Sanders). We had brought our ad from the paper and were hunting down our first deal and hit a roadblock...the price was higher than advertised. We quickly found someone to ask about it and he found a manager who pointed out that the ad was not valid for their store but they would honor the price (it definitely said participating locations on the ad, but really? One location in Northbrook is on it and the other not?) So just be careful to watch out for that but they were very nice about it and honored the prices that were on our ad. Would go back if I'm in the area and need a grocery store. read more

New location here in Northbrook which serves a variety and fresh products. I really like the juice bar. My main issue with the place is it's employed by so many young kids they don't seem to really care even the bathroom was dirty. I understand it's tough to find good employees so I would cut him a break on that hot bar pizza bar also and options for a quick lunch if you're in the area read more

I don't disagree with the comments on the staff in general--but I do think the managers are very attentive to the customers and do a great job. This is the best store around my house--well merchandised--fresh food--excellent popcorn. The bagging leaves much to be desired--somehow my bread always is under the milk--and they forget things--like jumbo eggs, bananas, etc. and I don't have the time to go back and get them. I think a lot more training of the staff can make this a great store-- I think the quality of the management team is excellent--and Larry does a great job as the store leader--it is hard to develop people in retail so this store needs a bit more time--It is way better than Heinen's or Sunset. read more

The store in general does not keep things well stocked. They were out of several things that I went in for. The produce section is terrible. On top of not being well stocked the quality of what is there is crap. I bought some goat cheese. Brought it home and put it all over the salad I served my family for dinner tonight only to realize it was bad, over a month expired. The lady at checkout charged me for the wrong (more expensive) mushrooms and when I pointed it out she stated, "I don't make the prices, I just put the code." Didn't feel like arguing... not coming back here. Back to Sunset Foods and Whole Foods for me. read more

Currently at the deli counter. I grabbed a number and one of the two gentlemen at the counter helped another lady who admitted she came after me. When I asked the two men if the were using the numbers that were being printed and that I had in my hand, the one who was helping the other women said no and continued to help the other lady and the man who finally helped me said no not when it's like this (slow) and never apologized that I was overlooked. Well, clearly you need the number system, because when there are only 3 people at the counter you can't even help them in the right order. Instead of explaining why you didn't help me when I was there, first apologize and correct the situation. I give the customer service zero stars. read more

Friday night is the time to go here! It's very quiet, the staff is very attentive and there is no jostling of grocery carts! Irv at the Oyster bar is a delight to chat with, and the oysters were delicious! I will be back for the Tuesday Oyster special! read more

I was excited to have a new Mariano's but am not impressed. Maybe my expectations were too high because I went to another new store further away that was amazing. There's always a long wait for service here. The one thing I do like though is the Oki Sushi bar. There's always someone there and they get your order done in the time they say they will. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!! My first one star review--but they need to be shamed. Long story short, I tried to purchase a $500 Amex gift card, which required use of my debit card (they don't take credit cards for these). I swiped and the Amex card didn't get activated, so I swiped again, then a third time at a lower amount. The gift card never got activated, but the store still charged me over $1250 plus activation fees. I spoke with 2 managers, 1 shift leader, two corporate service reps and one finance rep, providing paper documentation of all the transactions, before getting it resolved a full 7 days later. While I finally got my $, NOT ONE PERSON from Marianos or Roundy/Kroger ever actually called me to tell me what was happening or that they would take care of this. Nobody owned it. You had a lot of my money for a full week. And I spent many, many hours on the phone or driving to the store to get it resolved. My hold time for the finance department alone totaled nearly 2 hours. Never a peep from anyone. What a sorry way to run a business and treat a long-time (former) Marianos customer. read more

Absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced. Was having trouble finding basil leaves, so asked an employee where I could find it. Rather than being even remotely helpful, she said "I'm part of the bakery and I have to go punch in" and walked away. Felt like I'd been punched in the face! To top it off, I was getting a loaf of bread in the bakery, and the same lady comes up to me and says, "See? I told you I'm part of the bakery!". I work in grocery too and would NEVER provide such atrocious service. The food is always fresh, but it's always hard to find what I need because the store is so big and there's really nobody around to help you. Would not recommend. read more

Excellent selection and service! The employees always speak with a Courteous tone and are respectful to all. The OJ is fantastic and I love the bakery. They have an excellent beer selection as well as other spirits. They also have a diverse array of ice cream's for anyone's taste. hard to believe that it's worse than the last review. Where's the staff? The staff that is there, doesn't care about providing proper service. 15+ customers milling about near checkout. Lines into the food aisles because only 2 registers are open at 730p on a tuesday. Asked 2 staffers for more registers to be opened and they told me it can't be done. Then they walked off. Where were they going? You spend millions to open this store and then you have no clue how to run it. Not a fan of Sunset but the store is about 1/3 the size and has twice the staff. read more

I was excited seeing the store being built since my office is right across the street. It's very convenient for me to go there for lunch. At first glance Mariano's seems to have everything you'd expect from a premium grocery store. They have a salad and a hot food bar, bbq station, fresh pizza, and even an oyster bar. However the quality and service just isn't even where they need to be to be a premium store. In my opinion it's really just smoke and mirrors and I now refer to Mariano's as a glorified Jewel. There are a couple of things I do like. They make their own sweets and caramel corn and cheese corn. The floral section, fresh bread section, coffee, gelato. You can even buy something from their meats/fish area and they will throw it on their grill and prepare it for you for free (although I haven't found any need yet). I have found the deli and prepared foods to be low quality. The salads behind the counter look overdressed and unappetizing, service is indifferent. There's nothing unusual on the shelves. And prices aren't great. Truly the best grocery store is Sunset Foods. They just seem to get it. It all starts with quality products and amazing service. Sunset delivers on all fronts. I wish more grocery stores would follow suit. read more

If I could give no stars I would. Every single time I go there employees waste my time or end up screwing me over. Never once have I been to this location and it be a smooth transactions. After today with them nearly over charging 20 bucks the level of there stupidity is unmatched I will never return to this location. Let me explain to you the stupidity. When you go to a store and buy a 12 pack of coke that is SEALED you buy 1 box unit. Today I wanted to get a handful of things. While in line ABOUT to check out they tell me I have to sign up for a card to save money. I didn't really care but she said I could remain my spot in line. The system wouldn't allow me to sign up for some reason, which was a waste of time. Then the cashier that I was supposedly kept my spot told me that she is now closed. They did nothing to fix this they were just like your SOL. So now I have to get back in line and wait all over again. FINALLY getting to check out they can seem to scan a box of energy bars so he opens my SEALED PACKAGE and begins charging me individually for each bar. I tell them that it was a package and he has to call a manager. The manager give me a 3 dollars off..... I was done, at this point I was paying double the package price and wasted 30 min simply trying to check out with about 8 items. I left infuriated without purchasing anything. This is by far the best grocery store I have ever been to. In addition to the normal fair you'll find at Jewel, they have a much better and diverse hot and cold buffet. They have a larger liquor, beer, and wine selection. Overall, they have a much better selection throughout the store. Yes, it is a little more expensive than Jewel, but the variety and customer service is worth it. I am writing this review simply because of the customer service! The other day after doing some shopping, I noticed that I was missing 2 steaks. The next day, I go back, present my receipt at the guest services counter, and they replaced the missing items immediately! The employees were very friendly and helpful. You might spend a little bit more than you would at other grocery stores, but Mariano's is worth the few extra pennies. read more

I just came from the store with tons of bags. All very heavy. One in particular weighed 24.7 lbs!!!! To add to the damage, every single one was single bagged. I barely got it into my car and once home, had to take things out of the bags in order to lift them. So, this has been an ongoing problem since this Marianos opened. I have told them at the office numerous times. Today it was a young kid bagging and it's NOT his fault. It's inadequate training, which I have also pointed out before. Another thing happened. I ordered sliders for 4th of July. Then wanted to order slider buns, but was told by the lady at the bread station that they are all discontinued. Well, when I was there today a very nice "bread man" was stuffing the shelves, so I just asked him about the slider buns and of course they were there. Not discontinued at all. I think I'll stop here for now. Not a very happy client. May switch to Sunset. read more

The catering department is very helpful in selecting the right assortment and quantity of foods so that everybody is happy. The staff that I order lunch for frequently requests Mariano's. Today I went to the Vero coffee place. I ordered a coffee, a lady named Melissa or Lisa. Was very rude to the customer in front of me, when the girl ordered a Gelato Shake. When it came for my time to ordered she also proceeded and continue to give her attitude and wasn't being polite. She also gave no effort on making my drink. She made me wait while she was on her phone texting someone. Right in front of me!! This is not acceptable for a customer to wait that long whatsoever. Plus my drink was made poorly. This made me sad. She needs to be checked on by the store manager of the store. She is not at all pleasant. read more

Shoppers beware! You must watch the checkout carefully to make sure you get the advertised sale prices. I was overcharged for 2 different produce items and when I pointed it out to the cashier he didn't believe me. I ran over to the produce department and grabbed the sale signs to prove it. I was refunded the difference but when I mentioned I'd like to see the correct prices programmed into their computers I was told their coders don't come in until the next morning. That meant that everyone else would be ripped off as well. At 7 pm on a Monday there wasn't even a store manager present. Will I trust I'll be charged correctly next time if there is a next time? Hell no. I only really go there for their Roundy's unsweetened almond milk which I have been told will be discontinued soon anyway. Oh, and I almost forgot-- I encountered a very rude young man behind the meat counter who pretended he didn't see or hear me ask for assistance 3 times even though I was 3 feet away. I actually had to yell "Hey,Excuse Me" to get him to pretend to notice me. Overall poor customer service. read more

The worst customer service at the check out lanes. It was roughly 5:00 pm and they had a rush at the check out lanes so a person working there called me over to an open lane. Once I got to the check out lane the person working it stated "I'm closed", although she was helping the person who was called over in front of me. I let her know that the person bagging for her had just called me over to that lane along with the person she was checking out... her response was "I don't care- I'm off at 5:00". I Then went back into another lane which had filled up with another 3 or 4 sets of customers. That lane was extremely slow due to the fact that the 2 bagging personnel were talking with the cashier about when their shift was over and what they had worked this week. They were more interested in another cashier being upset that they were getting out earlier than they were. The bagger put fresh produce in containers upside down so when I was unpacking the items I had to put them back in the package. Mariano's is supposed to have the best customer service, however it appears they have lost their way and not hiring the right people. read more
