Awesome Aldi 'BIG & New' (12/19) Glenview off of Willow Road
    Phil S.

BIG, NEW, BEAUTIFUL ALDI. This Aldi on Willow Road in Glenview opened in Dec 2019. I'm sure many of you have shopped at Aldi. They have a great range of food items @ a lower price point then most grocery stores As you may know Aldi's origins are from Germany. From humble beginnings brothers Karl & Theo Albrecht have turned Aldi into a 38 billion dollar empire w/1,600 stores in the US. Trader Joe's and ALDI are Owned by a German company called Albrecht Discounts, ALDI is a discount grocery chain that started in Germany in 1948. This particular location is larger & more spacious then most of the other Aldi's. The interior space has a large volume of space w/higher ceilings giving it an airy spacious feeling. Clean spacious & beautifully done. If you like Aldi you will love this store.

    Bright new store

I love this no-frills German grocery chain and am thrilled they finally opened one in the northern suburbs. This bright new store boasts all the usual Aldi items. I come here for two things: Excitamints and lactose-free skim milk. If you've never tried their sugar-free sour apple mints, you don't know what you are missing. The only thing I don't like is that you need a quarter to use a shopping cart. It is refunded at the end, but who carries change any longer?

One of many half price spottings!

But, very extensive selection of items. Lots of free samples around the store too. If you enjoy exploring new foods, this is a great place! Also, the food court offers quick, authentic Korean food. My only negative is the bibimap barely had any meat and was not as good as some others I've had. But, still decent. Overall: highly recommend. Great Asian market.

Not very good at customer service told me to buy raw fish downstairs. That's not how ordering sushi - rice works. If I ask no order to omit the rice. You omit it or lose the order. They just lost some business. I won't be back here either. The atmosphere is noisy and feels like a public transit station. Hell the elevator even smells like a bus station elevator! Gross!!! I do like the grocery store but that's about all this place is useful for. Skip the food court everyone raves about. It's not that great. It's just an average chain restaurant quality product. You can get better at a real restaurant for the same prices without the horrid racket of the grocery store. This place is legit louder than being in an Equinix server cage room!!! (See prior review for grocery store. Grocery here is 10/10. This review covers only the so called dining court. Two restaurants owned by the same people does not make a dining court. It's a monopoly in the dining court!)

The first time we ordered from here was through the website and we drove up to pickup the food. First, the app... perfect. Need gluten free food filtered? Yep! Need low carbs and zero sugar filtered? Yep! Did you decide to go into the store instead and need to turn it into a shopping list telling you which aisle and section it is located in? Yep! Honestly, it is fantastic. Next, it is employee owned. Everyone inside seems to care about making you a happy customer because they own a stake in it. Lastly, this place is massive! I can't rally explain to you how massive. It is 242,000 square feet of groceries. For scale, that is 15 commercial Boeing 737 jetliners inside or 395 full sized semi trucks or the entire New York City Central Park Zoo! It has every food you could imagine with every gluten free, keto, and zero sugar option my family craves. Want that Mountain Dew Voltage raspberry soda you thought was long gone? Yep! Want those Keto ice cream bars that taste better than standard ice creams? Yep! You got a customer for life. Well done!

I think my two year old liked seeing cows for the first time, and she seemed surprised by the chickens. Perhaps more than anything she was happy to see the barn cat since she said goodbye to it. We went into the farmhouse and it was interesting to see. She wanted to go upstairs but I was afraid that she was going to wan the to carry her up or down, so I vetoed that for this trip. The playground was probably the biggest hit. It's a small playground with some slides and a sandbox and maybe some other equipment. She had a blast on the slide and I was happy there were no swings because I would have been stuck pushing her for 20 minutes. There's a parking lot across the street, and for this event there was overflow parking in the church lot next door. I will keep an eye on events happening at the farm to see if my kiddo would enjoy coming to something else here.

We wanted a special Chinese word--double happiness; you might know it--made from chocolate. CCD was more than willing to try it out. Working with them was a breeze. They were prompt and had the chocolates finished on a compressed timetable, even though we only were able to provide one mold. My fiancée used to work at Teuscher, and while CCD's chocolate isn't exactly at that level, she was more than pleased with the flavor, consistency, and tempering. (Of course, it also came to less than half the price per pound!) The chocolates came out gorgeous. Sharp transitions, smooth edges, no significant burrs or voids. I posted a quickie snapshot. Marilyn clearly takes pride in her work and it shows. Best of all, they were substantially less expensive than having it done in the city.
