This is a great Mariano's location! It's not too crowded usually and they have alot of great produce and packaged foods.

It's not the largest Mariano's smaller foot print than some others. But it often has what I'm looking for which are the basics. I kind of like the smaller store since I know exactly where the eggs, milk and the staples that I usually get are located. Self check out lanes are plentiful and it's easy to get in / out. read more

I was in the hood today (Northfield) and I wanted my daily green detox drink. At this location the coffee bar, gelato and juice drinks are serviced by one person. I was taking to the server and she informed me that Mariano's now owned by Kroger intends to phase out all of these sometime near the end of the year. This review is for the pharmacy. I had always used Walgr€€ns for my prescriptions but was never happy with the poor service. I decided to try Mariano's after waiting unsuccessfully for 10 days to get my meds at W's. For all the years I used W's, they literally never answered the phone, so I was shocked when the pharmacist at Mariano's answered quickly. I explained I was a day away from running out of my meds. He assured me he had them in stock and worked with me to get my prescription quickly transferred and filled. Pickup was a breeze. The gentleman behind the counter was friendly, professional and so helpful. I'd never thought of using Mariano's for pharmacy prescriptions. Now I won't go anywhere else. read more

I see that I already reviewed this bakery item! Their fresh fruit tart is large and such a great party item. I cannot believe they haven't switched out the crust yet. The refrigeration makes it mush! They need to use the coconut cream pie crust -- it keeps in storage! That, and the fruit stems that made their way into the final product is always annoying. This is the worst managed Mariano's. Consistently. The one on Skokie Blvd so much better. Every time I'm at the Willow Rd Mariano's I leave in a bad mood. Management is very unhelpful, standing around while you look bewildered. And management is never wrong; they will argue their point to their dying breath. The client is never right. I think they are in a bad mood because they also hate the store and they know how poorly managed it is. Corporate needs to send in a replacement team ASAP. read more

I was in the area and decided to stop for lunch at this location. Walking around the store i started to get followed by an employee named John. He was clearly on some kind of drugs. He followed me through the store and kept looking like he was trying to rob me. I left the store without purchasing anything. John continued to follow me to the parking lot and menacingly watched me get into my car.. I will never come back to this store in my life. I would leave 0 out of 5 stars if I could. The most exciting thing to happen to the north shore in 2014 was the opening of this brand spankin new Mariano's. I kid ya not...the day it opened my social media was blowing up with updates live from the new Mariano's. I avoided for a few weeks and checked it out once (I hoped) the hype had died down. I brought along my favorite 1 year old shopping companion who is half the reason (the other half being his 3 yr old sister) I bother to go grocery shopping at all. Upon entering we carted right over to the coffee bar where I placed an order for an iced latte. And a very long 10 minutes (seemed more like 10 hours) later I got a tasty one. They may need to drink a bit more coffee behind the bar themselves, but I guess slow is to be expected a few weeks after the grand opening. And slow continued behind the deli counter, bakery and everywhere else throughout Mariano's. The 1 yr old started to get impatient, especially when I wouldn't let him eat everything that made its way too the cart. He's a little confused on how this grocery shopping thing works. Fortunately for him (and me!) there were plenty of samples throughout the store to keep him full and occupied. Banana smoothies, red velvet cake and more = a happy baby. Besides the slowness I was a huge fan. The store is massive (at least compared to the grand in glencoe where I do most of my shooing), clean and as pretty as a grocery store could be. They carry everything you could possibly need at amazing prices. When they rung me up I assumed I spend around $150 since it's all the stuff I typically get at the store, but it was half of that. Not gonna' hate on Mariano's in Northbrook, because I have mostly had wonderful experiences there, but I was never so happy to walk out of that location and stop by the deli at the Northfield location, where Blanca came to my rescue and saved my day. I was getting ready to host an event the other night, and having picked up a large tray of ready made pinwheel wraps in the past, I stopped by to simply pick up another large tray, only to realize they don't make large trays anymore and one must order 24 hours in advance. I shouldn't have assumed they would have my pinwheels in stock, and that's my bad, but I really panicked. I went to the deli and found Blanca to see if they had any extra small trays in the back. Nope. But...Blanca said she would help me and would make the pinwheels for my party! I wanted to hug her. She spent time with me and calculated out the exact amount and even made a special mini tray of veggie pinwheels. What an angel! She even called me when they were ready for pickup, and I kid you not, she saved my party. I had no backup plan, or time for one. As for the person at the Northbrook deli who said she didn't think she'd be making any additional trays, and was fine with me going to another Mariano's, your store lost out on $78 because of you. You will catch me at this Mariano's rain or shine, good experience or not because it is my local store, but if I have to endure one more of a specific female cashier's scandalous love affair tales, I swear I will lose it. Never ceasing to cop a lackadaisical attitude, she makes a two-minute checkout a ten-hour, torturous experience. Quite often on the store's PA system, there are a few moments of heavy breathing which, at this point, goes unnoticed. Just wondering if anyone there actually notices the slightly disconcerting noise? Ugh. When this place first opened, I was thrilled. Nice selection, great staff training. They really packed a lot into a small space. It's rather consistently gone down hill since. The selection is waning and several times I've not found just basic stuff stocked on my he floor (like plain old canned water chestnuts). The experience that ended my relationship with THIS Mariano's happened over a mispriced item. They had a usually expensive air freshener marked as close out, and for a very cheap price so I picked up three. They rang up as full price, so I asked them (nicely) if I could run back and double check the posted price as it was only a few feet away and there was no line. I took a picture of the price tag and came back. The cashier called someone, who basically said I was wrong. We walked together to the aisle ((by this time I've already checked out and paid full price for the darn air freshener). Ultimately, the item was stocked on the wrong shelf and the employee was arguing that had I looked 10 feet down the aisle and up three shelves I should have noticed that the correct price tag and another box of the items were there. I was honestly offended by her absolutely snarky attitude. So I thanked her and headed for customer service to return the items because I didn't want them at full price (let alone three of the ). This employee came charging over to customer shouting "it's 12.99!!!! It's not on sale!!!" Like I'm trying to go to someone else to reduce the price. I couldn't believe it. The poor woman at customer service was embarrassed and offered to honor the misprinted amount, but at this point I just wanted my money back and to get out. I've not stepped foot back since. I still support Mariano's, but take my business to another location. Really a shame. read more

Bakery is by far the worst part in that store I would not eat any of the bread if you seen the back room freezer storage Trust me I know I worked there. Ah, I see...this is what a Mariano's looks like after taking over from Dominick's. Kind of a letdown compared to my two regular Mariano's, the enormous, gleaming, custom-built pleasure palaces at Ravenswood & Lawrence and Golf & Waukegan. This Northfield location is a serviceable grocery store; it just seems...small and ordinary. They found space for the smoothie counter and the gelato stand and the soup station and hot bar and salad bar. But it seems kind of cramped. And between the lighting and the dilapidated floors, the place seems dingy to boot. Furthermore, the soup and hot bar options are pretty disappointing at peak times, weekday evenings at 5:30 or 6. Multiple dishes unlabelled and unreplenished. Unfortunate. Of course a mediocre Mariano's probably beats any Jewel, so this is good enough for when I need it. But whenever possible, I'll stick to my two beloved regulars. read more

I go to this store frequently as it is close to work but lately have been rather disgusted with the store, mainly the customer service aspect. Last week I went in at 11:30 am to grab a salad and the salad bar was closed. When I asked 2 deli associates if they were going to open it they just shrugged their shoulders. I just got my 2nd dose of my COVID vaccine here. Every single person had their mask over their nose and mouth. Julianna was working the check in and I've never seen a check in so organized, friendly, welcoming and efficient. The pharmacist was also so kind. Well done everyone! I really wish this larger location was closer to my house. Just for the cheese section alone it's worth the trip. The amount of cured meats is too numerous to count. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable when around. Early in the morning is not always a great time to go. Better off waiting or calling in your order. If you can't find the cheese you're looking for here, you won't find it elsewhere. I enjoy the global section with all the different oils and legumes and grains in the bulk section. And don't even get me started on the Olive bar & raw bar. I feel like this is the closest I get to Zabar's in NYC without having to drive to O'Hare. That being said, I went there specifically for Halloumi Cheese for a special meal for dinner tonight. This store has been going down-hill for many months. While the shelves are full of stuff, they are constantly out of basic items, and fill the shelve with odd items. I find produce with mold or rotting, pallets of food left in aisle after aisle with no way to get around. Today was the 4th time in the past few months where they have no checker stations open. One needs to scan their $300.00 worth of food and pack. Given these lanes are not equip for large orders, you must put all your bagged groceries on the floor, while you finish with all your items. Final straw was an employee not willing to move out of the way, as he was stocking shelves and did not want to let people through. Huge turn-over of employees here. Go elsewhere. read more

As a grocery store, I give them a 5 out of 5. However, for their service.. I give them a 1. I've been coming to this location primarily bc it's close to where I live but the experience that I had today is making me rethink that decision. I specifically came here to get flowers to take to the cemetery. The lady name Ildi that was helping me or so attempted, was rude, didnt seem like she wanted to help and questioned my decision on the flowers that I was getting. When I asked her if she could arrange them in a bouquet, her response was: I can put it all in a bag for you. Having to be more specific about what I wanted and why, she then began to arrange it all in a bouquet like I asked. After she finished, I wasnt 100% pleased with how it looked and asked if she could move one pink flower to a different spot and her response while laughing: oh, you can do it yourself when you get there. That just ruined it for me. Along with that, the girls at both the checkout line and smoothie bar seemed like they didnt want to be there, didnt want to help, and moved so slow. At least fake a smile. For people working in the customer service industry sure did provide some TERRIBLE service. read more

I'm not 100% sure why I'm reviewing a non-Whole Foods grocery experience, as it fails to contribute to my "EVERY WHOLE FOODS" list - but whatevs, I haven't had anything to write in a while except for a tragically boring MBA business plan and my mind misses playing with words...but I digress - let us commence - I guess Mariano's is exciting b/c it took over the old Dominick's of Northfield, which was the decidedly Midwestern, slightly grungy, but very beloved, supermarket chain located here for most of my childhood - and although the last time I was in a Dominick's, its vibe was more romaine lettuce+ranch than kale+quinoa w a side of 'tude - but, it was the place where my 5y/o self begged my mom for Koala Yummies, so it held a special place in my heart. So, as much as I hate to admit it, Mariano's is a fairly noticeable improvement - varied and fresh produce selection - to the point where I had to do a double take when I arrived at the young coconuts...not that brown hairy stuff...but like the ones you have on the palm outside of your Hawaiian villa - and be like, who the EFF needs these in a 2390 mile radius of here? But, on a more practical level, this is emblematic of the wide selection of more interesting things Mariano's offers - bonus points as they make it quite easy to shop organically- $3/quart of organic bluebs in late Feb? Sure. Why not. I'm supporting the Chilean economy. In terms of layout, it's very similar to the old Dominick's - that said, they've made some weird organizational choices. Soymilk isn't with the regular milk, it's in a "vegan" section, which has some of the tofu and lots of Daiya...like so much fake cheese I didn't know what to do - I appreciate the effort at diversifying, but they need to consolidate like items - I literally searched for 10m to find the rest of the tofu. It was stressful. I maybe had to take out a few old people who were too slow at moving for me. And I'm not actually that sorry. I was hangry. Highlights: fresh produce and the create-your-own 6pack of beer thing w/ solid, local microbrews. It's def not bougie, nor would I make a special trip here, but if you were a die hard Dominick's goer, you'll be happy to have your old grocery hook up back, all dolled up in a cute lil first day of school outfit meant to attract all sorts of new attention (read: hellllla free samples). Oh - they took out the Starbucks - now the coffee bar is "Vero" or something - I didn't try it - and PS, the salad bar is decent, but nothing to write home abt - fresh, but not many interesting prepared options - more standard (baby tomatoes, celery, canned beets, baby corn, carrots, etc) - but cheap, $5.50/lb? read more

Mediocre store at best. No corned beef on St Patricks day. Produce department is hit or miss in terms of quality and selection. Often they are missing key produce items that even a limited grocery store would carry. I have been coming to this Marianos for years. I typically shop here weekly for my family and spend over $100 per shopping trip. The main reason for my 2 star review is the moldy produce. Literally EVERY time I come home with my produce I am throwing away at least 1 fruit item I just bought. It is incredibly frustrating and now it is what I expect. While I am in the store I always look carefully for mold and spoiled food but somehow that is never enough. Immediately after getting home I have had to throw away strawberries, oranges, grapes, apples, potatoes... You name it. As a busy working mom I do not have time to go back to the store to return the bad food, I have to throw it away. The reason why I continue shopping here is they have a good selection of the packaged foods and brand names that my family likes. Good prices on milk, eggs and yogurt. We also like their deli, they have a couple of high quality meat brands. We keep finding new types of turkey and ham that like and keep going back to read more

The gelato/coffee bar is great with a lot of different gelato flavors. They artisan wood fired pizza is delicious and they offer a great Tuesday and Saturday $5 deal. The bakery is enormous with so many different kinds of baked goods. Their meat section is great too! They make their own sausage and it's delicious. My co-workers and I went there on a day they were having cheese tastings and they had so many different kinds of cheese that were all very delicious. They have a wide selection of cheese and wine. We were on our way into the city to eat the same old things as usual, but decided to stop into this Mariano's and make a night of it - since the weather was poopy as usual anyways (this was mid-April-ish). Didn't buy grocery items, so this rating is based on their freshly prepared foods: italian sammie from the create-your-own sandwich area (10/10), kale salad from the deli (9/10), carrot and chocolate cupcakes (10/10), and a green juice from the juice bar (10/10). Granted, I have tried other prepared foods from a south loop Mariano's and it really depends on what you get (their packaged salads and fried stuff wasn't for me). I was surprised that everything still tasted great so close to closing time. Maybe I lucked out and found their baker on a good day, but these cupcakes were the best you can get in any grocery store, bar none. They were moist and decadent, not dry and flaky like you would find in a Jewel. We chose the less sugary green juice from the juice bar, and were pleasantly surprised - it was well-balanced, and the employee made a great recommendation. The tab was less than $20 for two, and certainly a great date idea if you want to mix things up and have a bit of fun trying new things. I love this Mariano's location! The staff goes above and beyond to help you find what your looking for when you can't find something. The shelves are always well stocked and the produce is always fresh. It's smaller than some other locations but its kept clean and they have everything you could need. They have Friday freebie items as well as stations to grab items like fresh bread, pizza, sandwiches, sushi, smoothies, coffee and gelato. read more

The past three visits to both Mariano's I find prices not changed at check out. This was my third visit in a row that 1-2 items scanned at a higher price. Wow! We came here after 4 p.m. on the Memorial day and they were open. In addition, they had lots of items on sale. This location is smaller than other Marianos, but I don't mind it because it makes it easier to get around and find groceries. read more
