I used to love this store. Because of the rioting and looting in the city right now, this location is no longer allowing pedestrians to enter the store at street level. I'm a 44-year-old woman with an ankle injury - and I was told by a store associate to brave walking up the parking structure ramp to the entrance on the roof - with it's multiple cars, blind spots and hairpin turns - if I wanted to enter the store and buy groceries. Instead of playing "Death Race 2000" with you, I'm going somewhere else. During a time of pandemic, economic crisis, and CTA shutdowns your store should not be making it impossible for people who do not own cars to buy food. I know you are trying to protect your property and staff, but my own safety was completely devalued in this situation. Please find a better way to secure the store at street level. read more

Love shopping here at Mariano's! They have a large deli and meat department. They have so many new things and produce, they have all sorts of meat like steaks, chicken, and even seafood. They also have bakery that always smells great because of their pastry foods likes breads, cookies, and other. They are so well-stocked, organized, and well-sorted. Their place is so huge, they have big parking lot, their location is so easy to go to. And also their store is always decorated and bright. This Mariano's is very perfect for families, especially in holidays, events, or even buying some goods for traveling. Their prices are so decent, they have so many good deals, promos, sale items, and even discounts. You can save also using their store card. It is so wonderful place compared to other store around the city. Their employees are so energetic, cheerful, and helpful at the same time. All of them are willing to help their customers while doing shopping, they even escort you once you are done shopping. You can check out all the things you need quickly because they have so many cashier stations and their cashiers can work so fast. This Mariano's is very busy, but they can still manage how to treat and surprise their customers with the customer service they have. No wonder why they have so many loyal customers. Really love shopping here! This is the best store I have ever been, they have lots of deli, meats, snacks, and imported items. Their staff are very polite, friendly, and helpful. All of them are willing to guide and assist all of their customers, they also following Covid Protocol, they are so professional in terms of treating their customers. Their place is so huge, they have big parking lot, also they are so near to other landmark in the City. Their store is so big, clean, nice, and bright. They have lots of decoration from the inside to outside of the store. You can easily go at their store, it is so easy to navigate. It is also so satisfying to walk around at their store, try some of their quality ready-to-eat foods, and enjoy the ambiance at their store. Parking can be a pain. I sometimes go to the hot bar and salad bar for lunch while at work. They have a confusing setup at this location that doesn't do it for me. There's a Starbucks in the lower part of the store. Mariano's has amazing tasting caramel and cheese popcorn made fresh daily. I'll be glad when the salad bar is back opened from the pandemic. For now, I'll just get my salads from the Lincolnwood location since their bar is opened and monitored by a staff, armed with plastic gloves, which is a plus. read more

Man... what's happening to this place? Two years ago it was a jewel. Nice, clean, good food, good employees... now it's just filthy. It's always disorganized, nothing is in the right spot on the shelf (so you never know how much something costs, or if the sale tag really applies to the item). They DON'T rotate stock either... the dairy department never has oldest in front... if you dig to the back you'll find expired product, so ALWAYS check the expiration dates! On top of this, the escalators (all of them) have been shut down for months now... you have to climb like 5flights of stairs to get in... then carry your groceries back down... even the cart escalator doesn't work... so if you buy more than you can carry, you're out of luck... multiple trips. The bathrooms are absolutely filthy, if employees in the bakery, produce or meat department use them I've decided I won't buy any of those here any more. Feces on the floor, urine in the corner, no soap, etc. Oh, I should mention I too got food poisoning from something here... either the shrimp I bought for super bowl or produce I bought (Either employees with dirty, unwashed hands handling the produce or the shrimp I bought was frozen, thawed, re frozen.... who knows how many times before I bought it. I've been deathly ill for a week now with bloody diarrhea... yep.. from something at this store. I'm gonna start researching other options...this place is ridiculously under managed. Obviously no supervision (to ensure these kids who stock and work there are doing their jobs correctly) or standards. It's truly a health hazard. read more

This store has gone downhill so fast. More and more disappointing every time I shop here. It was such an amazing store to shop at when it first opened. Now it's difficult to find produce that isn't brown and soggy, or frozen foods that aren't freezer burnt. Most of the bread, tortillas, and pasta aren't ever stocked. The worst part is the staff are always around, but really just unhelpful and always ready to cut you off acting like you're an inconvenience to them. I like the store, but am baffled by the replacement of their Vero brand coffee shop with a Starbucks. The Vero people understood that the shop must be swift and efficient to get customers to their train on time. I've tried the Starbucks twice this week and left without coffee each time. The first time, I ordered a coffee and paid. The barista then went back and started grinding coffee beans. Apparently they only had decaf available, meaning I'd have to wait for a pot to be brewed if I were to have my beverage. This morning, I waited for ten minutes in line, ordered, and eventually had to depart, once again without coffee, because they were so slow. I'm not saying I have any clue how to make fancy drinks or run a coffee shop, but it's clear that these people need some training and guidance before taking over what was a tasty and speedy stop on the way to work. read more

This Mariano's has turned into an absolute joke. It is a shell of its former self. I shop here almost every single day because I live so close. First, when you walk in, you are punched in the face with the overwhelming smell of popcorn. It is truly nauseating. It is almost guaranteed that they will be out of at least one thing I need and it often takes more than one day for them re-stock. Recently I asked who I believe is the grocery manager if they had any more brown rice flour because it was out of stock on the shelf and he said if it's not on the shelf, it's probably been discontinued. Ok.....he didn't even offer to check the back for me. A few days later I checked for it again and it had been re-stocked. He just straight up lied to me out of pure laziness. There is now a $0.50 service fee for getting cash back, which I've never experienced before outside of an out-of-network ATM. The product section has been steadily going down hill. Seems like nearly every apple is bruised. Garlic is almost always rotting. I even saw one of the produce workers CLIPPING HIS NAILS right next to the apples while he was stocking. And don't even get me started on the first floor escalator. It's been broken for close to 6 months! I don't have a problem taking the stairs but there are plenty of elderly customers who do, and it's just insanely ridiculous that a company as large as Kroger can't fix their escalator in a timely manner. Even before this, the escalator would break regularly. It is extremely unfortunate that this store has declined so much. I used to be proud to have a nice grocery store in my neighborhood, but now it has become an absolute embarrassment. The ONLY bright spot here is the pharmacy, which is why I'm giving 2 stars. I have never dealt with nicer and more helpful people than the pharmacists and technicians, particularly Randolph, who is so incredibly nice. read more

After finishing my shopping experience at this location, I was stopped by who I assumed to be a Mariano's security guard and asked if I had a receipt for my items. This was after he saw me pack up my groceries in the self-checkout lane.  After confirming that I did in fact have a receipt, the security guard requested that I show it to him.  Conveniently, he did not appear to make this request to anyone who left immediately before or after I did.  While I have experienced this situation all too often as a child and teen, I had hoped that by 2021 and as an adult man,  this blatant racial profiling would not be commonplace. I have been a regular Kroger/Mariano's customer ever since attending grad school and 2012 and am saddened that this incident has sully my entire experience. I don't know if it was this particular security guard or if the implicit bias is engrained in that specific location, but I know I can not let it go unaddressed. If this is how (certain) customers are going to be treated, then I'll just stick with Costco, where I know that at least everyone there is required to show there receipts read more

Since Kroger bought Mariano's the quality and safety of their foods have gone down. We got bad fish from this location once and a month later we got bad fish from the one on Sheridan. It smelled like ammonia. But don't worry, they cut costs to to benefit the share holders. Oh and you'll be interested to know Kroger who owns Mariano's released its quarterly report today. Over $1 billion in cost savings for 2019! Stock is up, but what what cost? Getting people sick? King crab is from Russia not Alaska. Plastic red solo cups instead of glass? It's so cheap!! So far this is my favorite Mariano's in the city- I have been to a few, but this location has the BBQ bar- Their brisket is as good as it gets anywhere, smoked perfectly. I also tried the St Louis Style ribs- a buck a bone- which is a decent enough price. Ribs were perfect too. Although they do not offer bay backs, so it goes- They offer a variety of sauces too at no extra charge. The rest of the store is fairly typical Mariano's, not a real fan of having to go up the 2nd floor to shop, but it is not going to keep me away. I wish the other Mariano's in particular the brand new one on Ashland and Webster or the one on Western and Roscoe sold the same BBQ- so far no. Maybe it's a good thing in the long run for my own health... read more

Mariano's is not protecting their employees by training them about social distancing or following the CDC guidelines. The aisles are literally to narrow to keep away from other shoppers. I did not see that cashier were using hand sanitizer. I was shocked when one employee hugged another. Then looked at customer service desk and 6 people were in a 4x4 area. This is how we will spread the disease because they are at risk because of the amount of people they are being exposed too. They need to follow some simple sanitation rules in between each customer. read more

My new favorite restaurant. My boyfriend and I were headed to Andersonville for Saturday night Date Night, but we couldn't find parking ... Decided to detour to Mariano's. Best thing: we each could pick what we wanted from all the different choices. We grabbed wine from the wine bar on the 2nd floor and then made a plate from the hot entree station, which we ate in the cafe section overlooking the store (great people watching!). Still hungry, we ponied up to the Oyster bar -- they were running an August 12-for-$12 special. Nick and Jim at the oyster bar were very friendly and the oysters were great for such a deal. Strolled around the store with the last of our wine -- spending $6 on butter goes down easier when you're getting tipsy ha ha. The rooftop parking lot is SCARY but can be avoided by parking on Ravenswood and walking over. I do occasional grocery-shopping here but the magic is in the specialty prepared foods. read more

I came to Marianos looking for a banana cream pie. On my birthday no less. This was a special pie for a special day. They didn't have the pie in the bakery. It was in aisle 9 with the frozen deserts. I was skeptical right away, but I decided to give it a try. Imagine my disappointment when it came time for me to eat my birthday pie, and it was frozen solid. It took almost 6 hours for the pie to thaw out! And when it finally came time, the pie didn't even have any actual sliced bananas in it. It was just banana flavor pudding with no fruit, topped with whipped cream and nuts. This pie was an affront to my sensibilities on so many levels. I mean, I'm going to go ahead and eat the pie anyways. But you can do better, Mariano's. Your customers deserve better. read more

This Mariano'a Is FANTASTIC!!! I don't understand all the negative Nancy reviews. I shop there multiple days a week to get the freshest produce. The customer service is exceptional!!! It'a unlike anywhere else. Especially the man that stands at the self checkout/entrance every day. He take the time to great you each and every time. That man deserves an award and a raise and a promotion! Always smiling and asks if you found everything you needed and wishes you a great day. Hes just wonderful. Also the people working the sushi department are always super friendly and go above and beyond. My only complaint is that the prepared fruit could be fresher and the quality of tuna at the poke station could be better. I used to get Poke every day and noticed they raised the price by almost $2. For that price I think the fish could be fresher, but I'm never dissappointed with the quantity of rice and toppings. read more

Mariano's is probably one of my favorite grocery stores in the city. Conveniently located by the Ravenswood Metra, I frequently stop in on my commute home. When you enter, you can hear music coming from the live pianist, which creates a welcoming, fun ambiance. I have also found their produce to be well priced and among the best deals in Chicago (even better than Jewel). I highly recommend it be included in everyone's top grocery stops! read more

WOW...this is the nicest grocery store I've been to in Chicagoland. The parking garage access was quick, convenient, and even on a busy day like today we found a spot near the door. Fresh flowers were available on the bottom floor, as well as a cafe offering snacks, a large cooler of drinks, and great coffee. Upstairs a live band played under a chandelier of wine glasses. I took a quick look around and the grocery isles are well stocked, clean, and they have many speciality items available. The checkout process downstairs was painless, no wait. Love it! read more

Overall, I give this Mariano's a 4 star rating. Most people who come to this store are civilized and it is never overcrowded. The store has things that you have come to expect from Mariano's: atmosphere, nice wine department, generally great produce, piano bar with a bar AND people sitting there having wine at anytime (always a great sign), organized AND STOCKED shelves and pretty decent prices. The employees who work at this location are polite and curious. Couple of "downers": Sometimes the escalator is broken. You have to park on the roof - can be a pain. I also don't like the way the ovens pipe their cooked items directly onto the rooftop before I go to the gym. If I only went to this place for groceries, that would be okay. However, nobody wants/needs to smell bacon, baked goods and other yummy things from their grills and ovens right before hitting a long run or spin class. Otherwise - its great. I find I have to go there because the lousy Mariano's in my neighborhood NEVER has the items that I regularly eat. When this store first opened it really took the cake for mainstream grocery excellence. But over the last six months, its quality has steadily and dramatically declined. At first it was an occasionally rude employee or a staple that they were out of. Now, however, the employees are more often impolite than not, and their produce section frequently looks like it should be the movie set for a film set in the Soviet era. Last night was the last time I intend on shopping there. I asked an extremely unpleasant man, named Jason, for help finding spring onions. His response was, "I've never heard of those." And he turned around and ignored me. Next, I went up to another employee and asked him to direct me to the asparagus. He waved generally to the east and said, "it might be over that way." After I established that it wasn't in that direction, I returned to him, hoping that he might be more useful. When asked, he shrugged and said, "I don't really know much about asparagus." It's a pity that Marianos has lost that special spark which made them really stand out against the other grocers in town and has instead raced to the bottom of the pack. read more

I really do not understand the hype about Mariano's. Never have. This location has a bar....uh, who wants to hang around a grocery store and drink wine? It floors me every time I'm in there to see people sitting around the bar. This is Chicago for goodness sake, I can think of at least 100 better options of places to go for a drink. For this particular location the layout is absolutely terrible - things are put in random groups and are in random locations throughout the store. Its really hard to find stuff. I've encountered this problem at the Western/Roscoe location as well, so I assume that is just a Mariano's thing. It is really frustrating. There are WAY too many employees here, most of whom are standing around doing nothing. I saw one that was walking up the down escalator during the entire time I was checking out. I also had a cashier and bagger, on the same trip, who did not know what to do with my reusable bag - they each bagged my groceries in the plastic bag - the second person doing so after the first person put my bag right next to the plastic ones. I get that this is a new store, but you would think the employees would recognize what a reusable bag is and what they need to do with it. I've never had that problem before. The prepared food looks nasty - but in general, I'm no fan of buying prepared food that has been sitting around all day. Oh wait - I was there on the Friday of the week it opened. I'm not really good at math, but I believe it had been open for four days - and there was expired yogurt on the shelves? How the heck does that happen? That said, this location is 2 blocks from me, so I will go all the time. Just don't expect to see me kicking back at the bar. read more

As a native Californian, coming into Mariano's and seeing a full bar with very cheap drinks is a shock. Nowhere on the west coast can you get a beer or glass of wine while grocery shopping. Who needs to visit a dingy Jewel with zero product selection when you can visit Mariano's and visit the hot bar for some lunch, get some fresh produce and baked goods, eat some samples of free cake, and get some stellar deals? As wonderful as Mariano's is in general, this location is a nightmare. It's difficult to get to by car, the parking lot is laid out terribly, drivers struggle through it like total spiteful assholes, and then once you're inside the store they're frequently out of stuff, the aisles are crowded and horribly laid out, and while there's an escalator from the parking lot into the store, there isn't an escalator or any other clear path OUT to the parking lot. Whoever designed this store is a total asshole, and whoever is managing it certainly isn't helping. Drive 5 miles to another Mariano's and save yourself a nightmare. read more

So we've been to this Mariano's twice, and I'm not sure if we'll return. Both visits to the organic produce stalls were a disappointment, they are holding the product too long. Soft spotty apples, squishy potatoes and the only thing we purchased - strawberries that looked fine however they were covered in mold by following morning. Now I know this is my bad however we bought organic cream cheese from dairy that expired the next day (which was less than 6 hours later), however I think things should be pulled sooner. I also agree about the parking garage, I don't have a large car however my husband and I agree it's a tough tight go for the ramp upstairs. I'll stick with my local Harvestime grocery for most of our things and try Tony 's next, makes us sad not to continue on here but it feels like a waste of time. read more

While helping my friend unpack, we decided to take a break to Mariano's. So I went unprepared-- messy top bun, bra-less in unpacking clothes. I've never felt so underdressed in my life. I really enjoyed the enormous scenes of Roman Holiday throughout the place, (hearts) Joe Bradley (hearts)*. Up the escalator, I just felt out of place. A bar with live piano music? An oyster bar? Wow. I just wanted some caffeine and eventually got their addictive butter cookies (I have dental insurance thankfully). I didn't really look at the prices too closely, but they had some pies on sale for $5.50... and that seemed reasonable? Apparently they have parking, but I have no idea how to get to it, since it's walking distance from my friend's place. *Yelp says I cannot use "less-than-three" to denote that I love Joe Bradley.* read more

I was actually pretty disappointed with this Mariano's. The hype definitely does not live up to what we experienced. First, let's start with the parking garage. Absolutely horrible design and dangerous! It's a very steep incline, we sat in traffic from the light up until we arrived at the 3rd floor for parking, and when you do it has very limited parking. There is only one entrance/exit to the parking garage. The actual layout of the floor just doesn't seem to make sense. Take the tomatoes for example, they're in 3 different spots. Common sense just tells me that you should place everything together, whether it be cherry tomatoes, heirloom, organic, etc. Shopping on two different floors is going to leave me shopping even less. The staff from our experience was a bit clueless. I overheard a customer ask where evaporated milk was and they pointed to the fridge section where milk was. Ugh what... After that we ventured over to get food. We ordered two slices of pizza and it took nearly 15 minutes. About 7 of those minutes was a staff member just not paying attention to customers and then having to repeat myself for my order throughout the time that I waited. I ended up ordering a margherita pizza and when it was being sliced the staff member placed 1 tiny piece of basil leaf for 4 slices of pizza. Overall I was underwhelmed, it was difficult to walk around the store due to the layout and I wouldn't come back. This place ain't got nothing on Whole Foods off Halsted!!! read more

This place is grocery store hell, from a lack of helpful employees to an impossible to navigate layout. The produce selection is questionable as well. But do read on. This place has the charming aesthetic of a Costco warehouse coupled with the disorienting layout of an Ikea. It seems as though the people responsible for designing Mariano's were far more concerned with whether they could put in a wine bar and a pianist than designing a functional grocery store. In addition to the layout impeding my ability to get in, get what I need, and get out, were the useless associates. I specifically went in looking for vegetarian dogs that I've found in the past at Dominicks and Jewel. Even my little grocery store harvest time carries similar things. After searching, and then wandering aimlessly, I decided I'd better ask. The first person I asked look at me dumbfounded and "vegetarian hot dogs?" I explained yes, vegetarian hot dogs, and they were commonly found in either the deli, dairy, or produce section. He had never heard of it and said they probably didn't carry it. I mentioned that I had checked the deli section but hadn't managed to find the produce section yet and would like to check there. That person did walk me over the produce section and point me in the right direction, but was not overly helpful. After combing the the produce section for several minutes then doubling back to do a second check of the deli section, I asked the second person. That person was very rude and gave me a crazy look and said "Vegetarian meat? You want FAKE meat?" He seemed so amused that I'd ask such a crazy question. It was as though he had no idea vegetarians existed prior to that moment. He was decidedly unhelpful as he suggested I check the deli section for a third time. He was very rude in general. The only helpful person was Josh in the produce section. As far as I could tell, he's the best person working at Marianas right now. He was very helpful and elected to ask a manager to find out whether or not they even carried what I was looking for. Apparently they do not. He kindly offered to put in a suggestion. So, needless to say I will not be back. The only pleasant things about my experience for the excellent customer service attributes of Josh and excellent tea selection. read more

Although I generally love Mariano's today was not a great experience at this new store. The guys at the butcher counter were a little too friendly with me with their language and I was not too interested in hearing that to be quite honest. The young man proceeded to mess up my order as well giving me too much meat and after what had already been a process to get my order I decided to just walk away with it. The young women who packed my groceries over packed my bags and it was not until I arrived home that I learned this. Of course I learned the hard way. The handle tore off of my reusable grocery bag halfway up my four flight walk up to my apartment. The paper bag should have been doubled as well bc the handle also ripped off that one. I realize it is a new location and it is hectic at the moment - I post this in an effort to let Mariano's know that these are just some really small things that can improve the experience for shoppers. Overall I am really excited that this new location is open. I hope to write a better review in a couple of weeks. read more

I had to visit. I am already familiar with Mariano's having frequented the Elmhurst location many times when we lived in the 'burbs and even the location in Roscoe Village when we're in the area. But I was really interested to check out the Ravenswood location and see what kind of bells and whistles would be tied to this one. Wow. The Ravenswood location is like the Mothership and all the others are just like the little drones. This location still offers great products, including from local farms/companies. Produce, meats, dry goods still well-stocked. And like all regular supermarkets, the Asian staples are just OK, best to go to an Asian grocer for the usual stuffs. But why I call this the Mothership is because of the other options folks have. Aside from the salad bar, prepared foods counter, sushi bar, huge deli counter, bakery, there's the BBQ counter, there's a Wine and beer bar. An Oyster Bar. The open grill manned by a chef. All these things to help you shop in style. If I didn't have the kid with me, I wouldn't have minded having a glass of vino to sip on whilst I did the weekly shopping. Nice. Service is uber friendly. So many people asking if I needed assistance while I shopped.There was a hiccup at the cashier (twice in a row unfortunately) but they were so apologetic and tried to resolve the issues as quickly as they could. The only thing that makes me think twice about coming here is the damn parking garage. The parking ramp is super steep and it took forever to get to the parking area because of the line of cars. Of course my kid thought the ramp was so much fun but I thought for sure I'd roll backwards into the cars behind me. So next time it's public trans or finding regular street parking. No thank you to rooftop parking. read more
