There was a line for paella so I figured it must be good, but I was disappointed. The rice was hard and gummy. The shrimp and chicken were bland. It was a difficult dish to enjoy. I had a few more bites before I gave up. Pass.

Maria's Paella was featured at the Sacramento Kings game and it was a must try. They featured their shrimp and chicken paella, and 3 different empanadas. I tried the paella ($12) and a chicken empanada ($8). I enjoyed both. The paella was flavored well and served with a slice of lemon . The empanada was also very good, with plenty of filling and the pastry wrap was the perfect texture. The chicken filling was a little on the spicy side with a lot of flavor. I'm glad I tried it because now, I would like to visit the restaurant for more paella options.

Although Maria's looks large from outside it is actually very tiny on the inside as most of the area is kitchen space. There is 2 small tables inside a large picnic table outside. It's a good idea to order online as it can get busy in a hurry and there is limited space to wait around. I tried the paella and a beef empanada for lunch. The paella was stick to your ribs comfort food. The lemon wedge is needed to add some acid but we felt the paella was under seasoned. The star of Maria's is a sauce that seemed like a hybrid chile verde/chimichurri. This sauce made the paella and empanadas pop. We ordered several types of empanadas but haven't gotten a chance to eat them yet. If you like paella come on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday as those are the only days it is served at the brick and mortar. Maria's is a great spot to grab some handmade Spanish food.

This place brings life to the neighborhood. I have seen Maria at the farmers market for years and have been wanting to try the amazing smelling dishes. The place looks super cute. When you walk in it's literally just a counter and a couple tables but I think it would be uncomfortable to sit because people are standing there to order. This place is definitely best for to go orders I would say. There is a window where you can see the kitchen which is pretty cool. Kinda funky layout but if getting it to go it doesn't matter. On to the important part the food! It was so flavorful! I had the paella and Al pastor empeñada. The paella was chicken and shrimp cooked to perfection and full of flavor. The empeñada was great too! It did have chunks of pineapple in it which I didn't care for but the meat had tons of flavor. If you are looking for a quick flavorful meal definitely check out Maria's!

Order: Breakfast (chorizo), al pastor, chicken mole and chicharron (pork belly w green salsa). Fave: Al Pastor 3.5 for the empanadas. They're okay but with the sauce it's good. I think their dessert ones would be better. Need to try their paella. Conveniently on 16th down from Sunhouse cafe. Great service, tight space. I can picture myself having a seat there when the windows are open.

What a great find in a busy street. Ive passed her stall in Midtown Farmers market, but happy to see storefront! Empanada fillings were generous & flavorful-- particularly the chicken mole ( tho a bit of extra mole sauce on side as a salsa would be lovely. The chicken was plain, but salsa spiced it up. My husband was critical of empanada dough-/ not flakey enough for him I hope theyre able to get space next door for indoor dining. Their cafe chairs were cute & comfortable. Parking available in front, but hard to get out since on busy 16th street. Next time, Ill park on side street

SO GOOD!! First of all such a cool stand! The signs were beautiful and the giant paella pans were so cool! She made it right there in front of you, so you could see how fresh it was! The flavors were so good and it was PACKED full of protein. The added lemon squeezed on top added the perfect amount of zest to the whole thing. The empanada I had was delish too. Was expecting it to be super rich since I got pork belly but it wasn't too bad! And only $5! I got a half size of the paella for $15 which also isn't too bad considering the amount of shrimp and chicken it had. The chef was super friendly and made sure everyone in line had their paella ready to go so even though the line was long it moved very fast. Overall I'm craving it writing this review and will def need to check out their storefront!

Delicious food. Empanadas to die for... so many flavors to try. Delicious sauce for empanadas. I tried 4 different kinds: beef, Al pastor, chicharrones and chicken. I ate them all without taking pictures. I will be back to try all the flavors. Sweet option is the brownie dulce de leche. Veggie option-Mushrooms spinach and vegan cheese. All the empanadas are stamped on the front so you can identify each of the different types. Each empanada is filled with bold flavors ratio of meat and dough is perfectly balanced. I also ordered the Chicken and Shrimp paella. Every bite was filled with equal amount of protein and rice. If you want to try delicious food come and try Maria's paella and empanadas, you won't be disappointed. Thanks Maria.

This is my first time coming to this place is food. It was navy the best paella I ever tasted it and the aqua fresh. Oh my goodness nothing was underpar Michelin star restaurant at a very nice value staff. Wonderful you can see them making everything fresh I would recommend to anybody visiting Sacramento. I can't stop raving about this place.

So sweet, the owner, Maria, was closed on Sunday. However she was able to take my empanadas party tray order. The delicious empanadas party tray of a variety of favors were a hit at my dinner gathering. Love how each empanada's favor is labeled. Highly recommend!

This is kind of in a sketchy part of town, but worth a visit. We started off with a beef and a chicken empanada to share - These were fried and different than the Spanish ones I have had elsewhere. They were so good. I really liked the green salsa that was paired with it. On the recommendation of the waitress, we both got cafe de ariquipes which were coffees with caramel. They were sweet, but not overly so, which is the way I like it. We also got the bandeja paisa plate that was just ok. We felt the meat was on the dry side but the standouts were the plantains. We also got an order of the cheese arepa and asked for more hot sauce... She hooked it up with their homemade salsa which was so good and fresh tasting. That sauce is so good. All in all, a tasty spot. I'd come back to try some other things.

It's become part of my routine so I figured I'd give them the love they deserve for keeping me caffeinated through my long days of State service. First and foremost, Andrea is one of the best baristas I've had the pleasure of receiving coffee from. She always has time for conversation even when there's a line and always gets my drink right. It does tend to get busy, but the staff are on point so the wait is never too bad even if a line looks long. Speaking of drinks, the honey lavender latte is a must try. The drinks and food items are probably the best deal you'll get in the area. I can typically get a latte and a fresh baked goodie for around $9. Try doing that at any of Star/Dutch/Peets without spending $15. You can also get .75 cents off your drink if you bring your own (clean) cup/thermos. Their baked foods vary daily (see photo for today's empanadas), but definitely recommend the egg and chorizo empanada and the cinnamon roll croissant. These are all made at their sister store (Venus Taproom) and brought in daily. This is a very cozy local spot, so if you like quality, service, and supporting local businesses definitely give Barrio a shot.

With authentic flavors and food items, there's not many like it around town. Bodega serves up food from the Caribbean Islands. One of their most popular dishes is their jerk chicken. They have this both as a chicken wing appetizer and as a plated dinner. I personally really enjoy white meat when it comes to chicken and the dinner plate was leg and thigh so I opted to go with the wing appetizer. My only complaint about it was its size. I thought it could have had more wings as I thoroughly enjoyed each one with the jerk sauce I added to it. The wings were very crisp on the outside and full of flavor. Adding the jerk sauce or their house made hot sauces enhanced the flavor even more. I could really see myself coming just for these wings! I also had the Cubano sandwich. This hot, pressed sandwich has ham, cheese, pickles, and mustard. It's a popular item that also is bursting with flavor. The combination of all the ingredients was mouthwatering. It comes with a side of fries to round out the meal. Service at Bodega was very nice. We found the servers to be very patient with us and the food came out reasonably. I was specifically there for a birthday party where we had cake being served from outside the restaurant. Bodega has a cake cutting charge, but seeing our tiny cake they waived it for us! I didn't want to write this review but I had a concern about something about the menu. I ordered the tequenos de pollo as an appetizer and the menu didn't say anything about it having cheese in which was perfect. I got the order and it in fact had cheese. I'm lactose intolerant and really sensitive to dairy so I asked about the cheese being in it. He confirmed it was in there, so I asked if they can just take it back- the waiter said no. I then asked if they can just take it off the bill because I couldn't eat it. He said no to that too. My husband doesn't eat meat and my son is lactose intolerant so it was going to be food wasted and money down the drain. I was pretty shocked because I've never been to a restaurant where they can't reasonable accommodate the guest. I then ordered my entree and the chicken was very dry and overcooked. I was not satisfied but I knew they wouldn't let me swap it for something else. Unfortunately I'm not going to rush to come back. The waiter was friendly enough but not accommodating. I get nervous when it comes to food allergies because now I know that some restaurants aren't disclosing food allergens which is actually not allowed. There are folks out here with life threatening allergies, so these places need to be careful. I'm glad I'm not one of those people but it's still disappointing.

Well, maybe not every kind, but there's a lot of variety. Although I haven't been at this Valerio's in quite some time, recently I got a Bibingka cake from Valerio's and it was delicious. The coconut flakes and the banana leaf flavors really came through and although it's definitely an indulgent dessert, a couple of small slices per meal over several meals is ok, at least that's what I tell myself. Certainly it's a good treat, but probably only occasionally as it's pretty heavy and dense, it's not what I'd call a fluffy cake. Another favorite many get here is Senorita bread, I like them, but they are really pure carb so only a little one every once in awhile. Service is generally efficient and polite here, they're busy but kind. It's a pretty basic set up with all the essentials of a bakery and it's not a sit down and enjoy kind of place so it's just pick up and take to go as the shop isn't that big and it's pretty packed with all the delicious sweets. Another item I really like is the Ube (purple yam) bread/rolls, it's a good sized bag, and a great value and so satisfying for a breakfast treat or for an afternoon tea snack. All in all, Valerio's has been here a long time and it's sure to continue to do well as it provides a specialty bakery for the Filipino community in Sacramento area as well as friends who also love Filipino sweets.
