Around for ages, older than most patrons and even servers here, Caballo Blanco is a Sacramento Mexican dining staple. Upon walking in there's cobblestone and wood all over the place. The place feels old and historic but by design. It's well kept and clean. My grandparents met here on the second floor back when it was open at night for live music and dancing. Knowing that holds a special place in my heart. So I'm inclined to like the place. Last Friday was only second visit here. Why my mom never brought me here growing up knowing her parents met here, I will never know. But the food is damn good here! Its authentic classic Mexican dishes make me want to try everything on the menu. The complimentary chips and salsa are the perfect starters to a great meal. Then the soup that is included with every entree are like a small hug from an old family member. The broth is hearty, the noodles and perfect. I could eat a huge bowl of it. The guac appetizer is creamy and flavorful, would recommend. The carnitas here are juicy yet crispy, they also serve a lot of it . Tortillas served with every dish are handmade and taste spectacular. Their beans are really good but I'm not sold on the rice. Went with the steak on my last visit and that hit the spot! Servers here are attentive and friendly. The crew here is tight knit and get people in and out in a timely fashion without the hurry up feeling. Caballo Blanco's food impressed my fiancee and I within the first few minutes of our visit. Her and I will be back again and again as it is now one of our favorite Mexican restaurant options in the Sacramento area.

Upon entering we were able to seat ourselves no wait time. Our servers was Lupe & Pepe they were more than accommodating with personality plus. We ordered the Skirt Steak Enchilada with Rice & Beans and Filete De Pescado with rice & Beans. Our food was served piping heat hot and oh my goodness the food was AWSOME! Packed with lots of flavor. The food was definitely prepared with much love. You will be amazed. We definitely will be back.

Delicious food, both the chicana de res and chile colorado are flavorful and good quality beef. The service here is quick and friendly. I like the interior decorations it feels old school but kept up. There is a parking lot in the back as well which is nice.

Yes this restaurant is still fire. I haven't been here in over 30 years. However, after 30 years I finally returned and it was everything I remembered it to be. The restaurant is older but it's clean and the staff is amazing. It's not to noisy and very inviting. The food is fire, I had the 2 beef taco and cheese enchilada combo. Everything tasted really good and they give you plenty of food. I enjoyed everything and I definitely recommend sliding through here.

Caballo Blanco is past sixty years of having the best table chips in Sacramento, possibly the world. Don't forget your food is coming after though. Got the spicy chicken. Their spicy actually is spicy, not Burger King angry fries fake spicy. You won't not take stuff home. I am stuffed but somehow still hungry for more. This is not light Mexican food for those on diets such as myself, though the salad is good. They serve soup before dinner but not worth mentioning. Good service and still sane prices in 2024. No complaints at all, left with a full happy belly and then some. Not crowded either, thankfully this place is a local secret to this day.

This spot is a great spot to get some OG mexican food. They have a big space and plenty of parking. They have a good size menu but I usually go for the combo plates because you get a lot of food for around 15 bucks. All the plates come with rice and beans, and the meal starts with chips and salsa, which is solid. My go to is a crispy beef taco and enchilada. Both are covered with cheese and delicious. You will get all the authentic mexican food feels. There are other options for meats, and they have burritos, tostada, quesadilla, etc. Definitely a staple on Franklin that is worth trying if your nearby.

First time dining in at Caballo Blanco with Sonia C. and Aubrey R. for a weeknight dinner. They have their own parking lot which is well-lit. I didn't see any Aguas frescas options on the menu, so stuck with...just agua, lol. To start we each got some kind of vegetable/pasta soup and corn tortilla chips and salsa. We also shared some flour tortilla chips, which reminded me more like fluffy fried wontons. Not sure if they use lard here. If you've had the flour tortilla chips at Novillero, they're not the same consistency/texture. #8 Ocho combination plate: 1 beef taco and 1 cheese enchilada, which came with salad, rice, and beans. The cheese enchilada was good; the crispy beef taco held its own. Service was attentive and the meal was filling without being overstuffed. Sonia got a 3 item plate with two tacos and a cheese enchilada; Aub got the chile Colorado beef dish. On your way out, if you're lucky, you might even catch el lindo gato del parking lot.

I came here for dinner with friends because, we've been wanting to try it for a while now. The free corn tortilla chips were delicious and fresh, you can tell with how warm they were and they were yummy. But we also ordered for an additional cost, the flour tortilla chips and they were so good too and so fluffy. The salsa was good but pretty spicy. The complimentary soup was great it tasted like something homemade with some veggies, pasta, and tomato broth, and it didn't have any meat. I ordered the 3 items to make your own plate. My 3 items were: crunchy carnitas taco, carne asada taco, and the cheese enchilada. The cheese enchilada was pretty good but, not my most favorite thing on the plate. The tacos were very delicious, the soft taco with carne asada was stuffed with meat and it was soo tasty. The crunchy carnitas was so delicious as well. The beans on the side were yummy and my favorite side. The rice was good but I prefer my Spanish rice to have more tomato flavor personally. The service was good and timely as well.

I found Rosa Madera when searching for "queso" in Yelp...(I really was wanting some queso)…read more Anyways, funnily enough, I read through the menu when I got here and ended up getting nachos in place of the queso...that's fine though, it gave me an excuse to come back another day. It's a nice looking place inside, especially considering its general location. They were busy even at an off hour mid-week, but I can see why because the food is great and so is the atmosphere. My first visit, I tried the following: Enchilada Verde (Lunch Menu), Mini Birria Tacos (Lunch Menu), and Nachos de la Casa (with asada). They also brought out complimentary chicharrones de harina, which was especially nice because I was super hungry! My second visit I had the following: Queso Con Rajás Dip, Los Favoritos, and the Burrito de Carnitas (Lunch Menu). I ended up liking the nachos way more than the queso. I wasn't expecting the queso to just be the consistency of slightly melted cheese. I also wish they were a bit more generous with the chips since I ran out of chips way sooner than the dips. No complaints on my main dish portions though! Really loved most things I've tried. The presentation of my dishes I've ordered here, the Enchilada Verde and the Burrito de Carnitas, was great too. The chicken was just slightly too dry for the Enchilada, but the flavor made up for it. Only complaint is while the service was nice, it was SO slow both times I've been here. It took forever to get the check and when they did bring out the card reader you can't see the receipt, only a total. Then their lowest automatic tipping button is set at over 22% (with two higher percent options), which is honestly crazy to me since most places start at around 18%. I way overtipped on accident the first time I came. I think it's highly likely they get overtipped for this reason, which is nice for them but kind of not fair to the customer. I'll continue to return!

The consomme was made from the broth used to slow cook the beef used in the quesabirrias. The quesabirrias were delicious when dipped in the consomme. The nachos contained tomato, onion, cilantro, guacamole, jalapenos, radishes, carne asada, and cheese under fresh tortilla chips. All the ingredients were of high quality and tasted delicious together. Complimentary chicharrones de harina were served with hot sauce. This is the first time I've been to a restaurant that served complimentary chicharrones de harina. Chicharrones de harina are a Mexican snack that are made from fried wheat flour. Service was good as the workers were friendly and polite. They were short staffed so service was slower than if they were properly staffed. It was surprisingly busy around 2pm on a weekday.

I used it and the salsa to flavor the black beans. However, I really just wanted grilled steak. I should have ordered steak fajitas, a grilled steak burrito or quesadilla, or a carne asada plate. I visited this past Saturday and it was quite busy inside like it always is. The restaurant is large enough to fit a lot of people, so finding a seat isn't an issue. To order, you line up in front of the register and wait until they call you. Once it was my turn, I ordered a Super Burrito with Al Pastor, which is my favorite protein choice there. Usually I order 2 tacos with my burrito but I was saving room for Korean bbq that day! The Super Burrito comes with your choice of meat, rice, beans, salsa, sour cream, guacamole, and cheese. I also ordered a medium pineapple agua fresca, which paired perfectly with my burrito. After ordering, you're handed a number to take to your table so the servers know where to bring your food. As I'm waiting for my food, I helped myself to the self-serve chip bar. The chip bar is my favorite thing about the restaurant besides the food and quick service. I always get loads of both the white and red pickled onions, and some salsa to go with my chips. They offer many sides to choose from so that anyone can customize their meal to their liking. The pickled onions have the perfect level spice and acidity to them which helps with cutting down the greasiness you may get from a burrito. I also like to snack on them for fun too! The food comes out extremely quickly. When I finished placing my order and brought my number to my table, I went to the self-serve bar right after to get some chips. Not even 2-3 minutes later, I came back to my table with my burrito already there! The burrito was absolutely delicious and piping hot. It's the perfect size for me and eating it with the pineapple agua fresca and some chips makes it a perfect meal! Coming to La Favorita Taqueria is always a treat and I appreciate the quick customer service, self-serve bar, and delicious food! And then I got to the reception area found that there was already a pretty big crowd at around the 5:30 PM or so I guess a lot of early birds come to eat there on Sunday. The receptionist asked for how many and said you'd be like a 20 minute wait and there was chairs where people were waiting but it was only like a 15 minute wait. The server was fast with the chips and salsa and ice water and then soon the waiter came and took my order. He was really quick and witty, fun to talk to. What I really enjoyed was as the noise of the table Near quieted down and they left. I saw a young man cleaning up the table and getting it ready for the next group of people. He was dressed really nice and had a tie on. Having been in restaurants most of my life I said to myself, I bet you he works with the owners or something. And I said to him, are your related to people that own the place ? he said my parents own this place. He was very friendly and polite. He told me a tiny bit about the restaurant and how everything had been since 1970, much older than he was, he was only a sophomore in high school I think. I never really got his name, but I was kind of proud of him because he was working hard at his family's restaurant. I ordered probably something bigger than I could eat because I had to take leftovers home, but it was really a tasty meal, and they're coming out with more chips and salsa without being asked, probably didn't help as well as a second lemonade. It's really impressive when you have a well oiled machine and it appeared to me that the people that worked there seem to be happy so that's always a good sign of good management. Several years back, I worked in the restaurant industry doing maintenance and repairs so I went to a lot of different restaurants and saw a lot of things so I know what to look for. I'm definitely gonna come back when my brother and his wife come up from the Bay Area my friend Ivan he'll wanna go there for lunch or dinner I know. I liked the style and design of the interior of the restaurant and overall it had a very nice vibrant feel. The staff was also warm and friendly. Unfortunately, the food was a mixed bag. The Torta Gorda was the biggest disappointment. The meat was very bland and seemed barely seasoned while the bread had become soggy by the time we got it home. There just wasn't much to it. The mole also missed the mark for me. The sauce lacked the rich complex flavors I expect from a good mole and the chicken was noticeably dry. The rice, beans and esquites were ok. The nachos on the other hand were quite good. They were flavorful and satisfying and although I thought they were a little heavy-handed with the radishes, I mostly enjoyed the flavors. For for three people the bill came to around $100 after tip which felt a bit steep, especially considering the overall quality of the meal. While this visit didn't live up to my expectations, I'm willing to give Polanco Cantina another shot and probably dine in next time. I have a much better idea now of which dishes to steer clear of and the restaurant itself seemed promising so I'm hoping the experience is improved when the food is enjoyed fresh from the kitchen.
