Went for lunch with some friends who were craving Italian food. Had heard about this place and decided to give it a go. Service - Excellent. Checked up us often and quick to refill tea, patient while we visited. Didn't feel rushed at all which was nice. Ambience - clean, comfortable with linen and cloth napkins. It's always the little things that make a difference. Not noisy so we didn't need to shout at one another. Another little thing! Food - I got the Sole served over an asparagus and spinach risotto. Fish was excellent but the risotto needed another 45 seconds to finish. A bit too al-dente? Wife got the Caesar salad with shrimp and loved it. Friend got the chicken parm and loved it. Owner was social, interesting and very pleasant! Definitely will go back again to try something different! read more

A friend of my boyfriends recommended that we come here if we were craving Italian food, so that's exactly what we did. This was our first time eating at mare e monte and to say that we were impressed is an understatement. As soon as we walked in we were seated with bread and water on our table In Less than a minute. Service at this restaurant is outstanding. Our server was a wonderfully sweet woman who gave recommendations and was quick to help. Once my boyfriend and I finished our meals either the manager or the owner came out and asked us personally how our meal was. On our way out we couldn't stop talking about how satisfied we are from the fast and friendly service to the delicious food not to mention the decorations and aesthetic they have going on inside is so cute. Everything was also very reasonably priced for how good of quality it was. So so so impressed!! Will be back! read more

I would probably recommend if they have the regular menu when dining. We went during Mother's Day weekend and they only had a special 3 course menu. We were unaware and had already been on the waitlist for 45 minutes. The experience was nice as this was our first time here but it was pricey. For a table of 5, that hurt. If you don't like spicy food, make sure to let them know. Their pasta dishes were a bit spicy for our palate. The service was great and the waitstaff were excellent. read more

Wanted to like this. The service and ambiance was great. The food was horrible. I got the viral chicken parm. It was almost inedible. It tasted old, just cold day old pasta underneath a horrible greasy chicken breast. No way that pasta was fresh! The oil they fried in must have been burnt. It was served on a salad sized plate that made it really messy. The server acknowledged the plate was the wrong size. Kind of felt like they just put some new chicken on someone else's leftovers. The meal felt unsanitary if you can imagine that. I wouldn't consider anything in this restaurant Italian. So not worth the price. Thankful for the experience, but don't recommend. read more

Finally got to go for their dinner. There is always a long wait last time was 2 hours but it was the holidays. Today was right at 45 minutes. Like Kevin always says if there isn't a wait on Saturday night probably not going to make it in the restaurant business. Food was delicious definitely worth the wait. We shared the Insalata Primavera and Pollo Bronx Parmigiana plus bread with dipping oil. Plus a couple of glasses of red wine It's the best parmigiana I've ever had. It is a golden-crusted chicken breast topped with vodka sauce, melted mozzarella, and a touch of sweet heat from cherry peppers, served over rigatoni Alfredo and Broccolini. They pour hot mozzarella on it right at your table. OMG!! Highly recommend if you're in the area. Staff was wonderful and very attentive with everything. Our bartender was on point too. Always checking in on us. We sat at the bar to wait but did eat the salad including bread. Then got a table for our main entree. Water and bread continued to be taken care of. Even the owner checked in on us twice once at the bar then seated at table. And thanked us again on way out of restaurant. Food portions were a lot. We shared and still have left overs. I'm pretty full. Best Italian I've had in a very long time. I'm not sure if he's going to expand there or not. But I feel like they may outgrow that space. But overall one of the top restaurants in my book. Definitely will be back. Each time will have to try a new entree but that parmigiana rocked. read more

Wife and I went there for lunch. They treat you like family and service was incredible. I had the chicken parmesan (Pollo Bronx Parm) with vodka sauce and covered with a velvety cheese sauce and rigatoni(not much). Not bad, but I prefer a more traditional chicken parm. Wife loved her fettuccini with shrimp. Maybe Mare e Monte will earn 5 stars next visit. read more

A friend sent me a reel of this restaurant pouring the mozzarella table side over this Chicken Parm dish. It looked amazing! Pasta with Alfredo sauce, topped with broccolini, breaded chicken with a semi-spicy red sauce. Then the magic! An extra pan with melted mozzarella was poured over the plate before my eyes! It was fun, but more importantly it was delicious! The staff were super attentive and the owner spoke with us multiple times. He apologized for the wait! We only waited 20 minutes on a Saturday night so no apology needed! I knew that seeing a packed restaurant was a good sign and worth a wait. We loved everything about this place and can't wait to go back. read more

We decided to try this for our anniversary dinner. The location I was unsure about but once inside you completely forget where you are. The entire dinner was great. Everyone on staff that we encountered were helpful and courteous. The food was great. I had a glass of wine and the lasagna while my husband had the special. We went on New Year's Eve and there was a wait, it was so busy, however hostess and even owner touched base with us on several occasions to make sure we were up to date with parties that were leaving! Chicken Parmigiano is my go to, and I was hesitant on the "bronx" style but this dish was Exquisite!!! Absolutely my new favorite!!! Bread was fresh and warm! Potatoes were so tasty!!! This was second visit. First visit was dinner. This was lunch. I loved the Orecchiette with the meatball. Hubby loved the Bronx. He kept saying how good it was, which hardly happens. An absolute gem of a find. The ravioli (stuffed w lobster) were excellent, as was the Caesar salad and the burrata appetizer. Despite the place being super busy and packed, the staff made it such a warm and inviting place, and the owner clearly takes a lot of pride in the high quality service here. The food was fantastic, the vibe is amazing, the waiter was efficient, at times though, we were a party of 13, our waiter was on point, I had the seafood risotto, I think the pieces of seafood should be cut a tad bigger, I had to "fish" around for the seafood, great flavor though, the calamari was perfectly crisp, and very delicious, so meatballs appetizers were good too, great texture and flavor, oh and FYI if you pay with cash it's at $10 less, versus using your card read more

The experience at Mare e Monte is unparalleled. We went in on a Tuesday night, it was incredibly busy (a great sign) but they still managed to get us immediately seated at a table. They're all decorated for Christmas right now and boy do they go all out. There was a huge tree in the center, garland wrapped posts. The whole set up was awesome. Our server was so friendly. She got our drinks and appetizer out so fast I was shocked. We had the calamari fritti to start, it was perfectly fried and very tender. We had the orchette pasta and the Bronx parmigiana. We loved both. We stuffed ourselves and still had left overs. The owner came over and joked with us about how we weren't really that hungry. He asked about the food and ensured if there's anything we didn't like to please let him know because it's important to him to deliver the best food possible. The owner is something else. He walked to every table multiple times to greet them with a "welcome home" he would make recommendations, tell jokes, ask questions, shake hands and hold the door when people were on the way out. I haven't seen an owner more involved and happy to be at their restaurant. My husband and I will 1000% back. We're planning on making a standing monthly date night reservation and beyond that will be bringing family/friends frequently. read more

I've seen this restaurant recommended multiple times on multiple pages I finally tried it out for myself. The food was delicious, packed with flavor. I had the Bronx Pollo Parmigiana, chicken was cooked to perfection.. topped with the vodka sauce... yumminess overload!! Don't leave there without trying the White Chocolate Strawberry Tiramisu, very delicious perfect amount of sweetness. The restaurant itself is super cute and cozy. Very welcoming atmosphere. What stood out the most on this visit was the amazing service. From the moment we walked in we were greeted by the staff and promptly sat down. The owner Prince came over to the table when we arrived and made sure all was ok. He checked on us multiple times while we were there. As we were finishing he came over sat down and chit chatted for a while. Will definitely be back to try out some more dishes. Give them a try if you haven't yet. I looked up on google "Italian near me" and this was the first to pop up. It has a 4.9 rating, I read through and decided to go for it. WOW! I am so glad we went here today. The food is what dreams are made of! We had the artichoke app, the lasagna, the Brooklyn chicken parm (I think that's what it was called) and dessert. Tiramisu and blueberry cheesecake! Our food arrived hot, steaming hot actually, tasted fresh and was delicious. We met the owner who came to our table twice to check on us. What a treat this was. We are only here on trip to watch our daughter play volleyball but if we lived here, we'd come every week! Oh and the sourdough that comes to the table was great too! The vibe inside was pleasant. White table cloths, medium/heavy forks which I like, staff were all attentive. We were not dressed up and felt fine to go here for lunch. Thanks! read more

This is a really enjoyable place to have a meal. This is one of those places that blur the line between fine dining and casual dining. However, when you first walk in, you are welcomed like you were coming home for a meal, which is very nice in my opinion. We chose this place because we were in the area and we were taking my wife's Aunt out for her recent birthday. It was a lunch that was well spent spending time talking and catching up, much like a family meal should be. No electronics and such. The decor is very cozy. The moon on the back wall is super cool and the books make it very comfortable for me. Think of it as a cozy place to have a meal. Our server, Jase, while looked super young was a pro. My wife hesitated in asking him to recommend a wine from the list and I immediately felt he could without hesitation. And he did with flying colors! The wine he chose was very tasty for a Cabernet in the early afternoon. A full body aroma, yet light taste. We ordered our different meals. I had the Bronx chicken parm, my wife had the sole with scallops with creamy risotto and our Aunt had the chicken marsala with veggies. Everything was tasty and the temperature of the food was great. In different types of dishes, it's hard to really keep the temp on certain dishes due to cooking times, but it was perfect. The taste of the sole and scallops with risotto was super light and creamy. Very well done with the scallops, which were perfect as a compliment to the dish. Yes it's extra, but worth it. My chicken parm was a surprise. I am a New Yorker and have high expectations on certain dishes and this is one of them. Very few local restaurants make a good chicken parm and this one was a different version that I actually really enjoyed! I mean jalapenos under the parm?? Oh pleasantly surprised by the pop of slight heat. But be warned for people who do not like spicy stuff. But for me it was very well done. The chicken was lightly breaded, cooked and seasoned very well. I personally would have liked a bit more tomato sauce, but I get the combo of the dish, the creamy pasta under the chicken parm made up for it. So much so, that I want to come back to just have pasta. Dessert is also a thing without family where if the food is beyond our initial expectations, a dessert is a required meal. I had the cannolis and my wife had the tiramisu. We took home a slice of cheesecake for our daughter. The cannolis were delish. I wanted a bit more chocolate chips, but that's a minor gripe and personal preference. The tiramisu was the winner in my book. The light creamy texture with the slight coffee taste was great. I really enjoyed tasting that as well. My daughter had the cheesecake and she enjoyed that as well, but she mentioned it was kind of cakey at the outside portions, but that is what you get for homemade desserts. So all in all, a great time and great atmosphere with great food and service. All the pillars of a great place to enjoy a comfortable meal. We will be coming back! read more

So looking for Italian food this one popped up so we decided to try it. It was packed and ppl waiting to be seated. It was only two of so we got sat right away, right between two tables. Too close and I personally don't lk places lk this especially when it should be a more intimate dinner, literally can hear the whole convos on both sides. It's very small in there but packed and very loud. We had the crab cakes as an app and I was surprised how fast they came out once we ordered it, lk maybe 5 mins I was wow that was quick. They were cold on the inside, not the whole thing though. We do mention it just to let them knw yall might wanna cook these longer, idk how fresh they are bc ours was def lk warm not hot lk it just came out the over or however they cook it. The manager did apologize and offered to make new ones and even stopped by several times times after to say he was going to take em off. In the end they were taken off, which is fine we ate them and they were good. I had the lamb with mash and my bf had some chkn entire and these were both good. Would try it again so I can try the ravioli. read more

We are a family-owned Italian restaurant that opened in April 2024. Our name, Mare e Monte, reflects our "Sea and Mountain" menu, which is filled with our family's favorite Italian dishes. We cook everything with heart and try our absolute hardest to make every guest happy. We are so proud to be part of the San Antonio community!

Meet the Business Owner: Prince B.

I am Prince B., the proud owner of Mare e Monte. You'll often find me walking the dining room, as my greatest joy is connecting with our guests. My inspiration for this restaurant comes from a deeply personal place. I grew up in Kosovo during the war, and I am here today because of the freedom provided by the U.S. armed forces. When I moved to the U.S. in 2018, I worked as a waiter, studying countless cookbooks and dreaming of opening my own place. I chose to build that dream specifically here in San Antonio, "Military City, USA," as my way of paying homage to the heroes who saved my family. We opened our doors in April 2024. Our "Mare e Monte" (Sea and Mountain) menu is a nod to my Albanian heritage and my deep love for Italian cuisine. We cook everything with heart, and we are truly honored to serve the community that has welcomed us so warmly. I can't wait to host you.

However, a super two for one deal on Door Dash enticed me to order spaghetti with Italian sausage from Albi's Vite Italian Kitchen. It arrived in two foil pans with plastic domed lids. There was enough food in those two servings for me to eat four meals! When I took the lid off, I could not believe how many slices of Italian sausage were on top of the spaghetti. The marinara sauce looked kind of plain and simple but was surprisingly flavorful. I was able to eat a slice of sausage with every bite. That combined with the chunky tomato pieces in the sauce made for a very satisfying meal. Was it the best spaghetti I've ever had? No. Would I order it when I visit the restaurant in person? No. But it was good enough to make me ready to try other dishes on their menu. I think they will most likely blow me away. The reheated portion I had for lunch today was even better! The pasta absorbed a lot of the tomato flavor. I think my next batch will be fried in a tiny bit of butter the way my mother did it when she had leftovers.

I just think that if you're going to advertise a pizza with meat on it, there should be more than one piece of sausage per slice. As far as the service, our server was fine. Not particularly friendly, but straightforward and efficient. The manager (or another server) was helpful when it came to replacing our dish. Overall, I would not go back. It seems like such a small thing, but when you're traveling alone, being welcomed back like that can completely change your evening. What really impressed me was seeing that it wasn't just me. The guy next to me ordered two pizzas to go, and when the chef brought them out he smiled and said, "Oh, Jose! I thought this order looked familiar!" I can see a child burning their hand terribly on this! What did the restaurant do? Nothing... several times we suggested something be done and not until the manager realized that yes, this is a problem did he do something remotely responsible. I couldn't enjoy the food! The staff consistently checked in to make sure everything was going well, offering things like more bread and olive oil, fresh Parmesan, refills, dessert options, and even bread to-go. A standout moment was when they packaged our to-go food right at the table--a small but thoughtful touch. It's not common practice, but it should be, and it made the experience feel more personal and attentive. We were able to join the waitlist on Yelp and were seated immediately. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted warmly, and as we left, someone even opened the door for us. The devil is in the details, and Mare e Monte got them right. It felt like a truly personalized dining experience. As for the food: the menu looked great, and I'm excited to return and try more dishes. Service was great, and our server was super patient with our big group. The owner even came out to speak to us and was really kind and personable! The restaurant itself was nicely decorated and seems like a great place for brunch. I had the *Spicy Rigatoni + Chicken and enjoyed it. However, I probably wouldn't get it again as I think it's more worth it to order other entrees on the menu when comparing portion size for price. We were greeted warmly by the hosts and they looked happy to be there - this is a good sign for how staff is treated. We chose to sit inside, so the hostess walked us to the indoor dining area, I immediately loved the vibe and how many different areas there were to sit, also great accommodations for each area. Anyways, we ordered our food. I didn't mind the wait, because everything was FRESH!! The drinks were nice and strong & they had a great happy hour menu. Listing everything we had & rating Spinach artichoke dip - 10/10, delicious Calamari -10/10, cooked to perfection. Burger - 8/10, great size, good flavor but not a standout Pizza - (kids and adult) 10/10 Delicious. I've never seen my 4 year old eat a whole entree at a restaurant without me encouraging him to Texas Lasagna- while it was good, the taste of barbecue sauce surprised me & I was bummed. I forgot our waiters name, but he immediately grabbed the manager, Jonathan, who validated what I was tasting and offered to remake it the way I would like. I agreed. We ended up getting it to go, but that Lasagna is SOOOO good. 10/10 for food quality, price, service, ambience, and most importantly compassion! He let us keep the other lasagna for someone else in the family to eat and we didn't get charged for it. We'll be back for the Monster Jam, and fully plan to stop by Guillermo's - even if it's just for a drink, will probably be our go to spot in San Antonio. Thanks to Jonathan and the staff! The service wasn't as attentive as we've come to expect, and while the food was still good, it didn't seem to be the same quality as on our previous visits. Considering the price, it didn't feel like the meal offered the same value we've experienced before. We're hoping this was just an off night because we've always enjoyed dining here.

Battalion was still offering their Restaurant Week Menu so we opted for that. Deborah chose the $45 side of the menu. She ordered the Spinach Dumplings, the Pan Fried Branzino & the Tiramisu for dessert. I chose the $55 side of the menu. I ordered the Burrata, the Braised Ossobuco & the Blood Orange Olive Oil Cake. Everything we ordered was devine, flavorful & tender. Both Mason & Mike informed us of some upcoming changes to the menu (fear not, all the regular staples are staying). For sure, BOTH desserts on the $55 menu will be on the new menu. If I remember correctly, the Ossobuco & the Branzino will be available on the new menu as well. Food: came during restaurant week, our favorites that we tried was the meatballs and the spinach dumplings. Being that I love fish we tried the Branzino the fish had a nice crisp to it just wish it had a bit more flavor, a little on the bland side. Tiramisu always on point.

We had a large party of nine and we waited about ten minutes that was great timing. The restaurant offers a full bar with some crafted cocktails. We stated off with some Crispy onion rings which were a perfect start fresh and hot perfectly coated deliciousness. We all ordered meals including steak and shrimp cooked perfectly and seasoned perfectly paired with loaded mashed which was enough for two. Two of us opted for the chicken fried steak. Seasoned and fried to a crisp golden with white gravy and a large heap of skin on mashed that were creamy and delicious. One fried shrimp platter hot and good. One fried catfish which was also prepared perfectly paired with cocktail sauce but they added on the tartar sauce. One kid had sirloin and mashed and she finished the entire steak. One chicken fried chicken which was also good. The portion sizes are generous , hot and fresh. We paired our meal with a few bar cocktails including old fashioned , martini , and margarine tossed in a few beers and we had a time. We weren't rush or slow to get service. All in all we enjoyed the meal , the vibe is good. When weather cooperates they have some outdoor seating options as well. Try it for yourself ! All in was 274.00 before gratuity for nine people and drinks. Good value !

Recently went back for happy hour and enjoyed some cocktails, appetizers, and pizza to unwind after a long week. Our group tried the fried calamari, baked cheese, palate brave, eggplant rollatini, and a large pizza of the month. For drinks we had the strawberry-rosemary gimlet, Moscow mule, pomegranate mule (mocktail), cucumber mint martini, and a glass of moscato. My favorites were the eggplant appetizer and gimlet cocktail. The crust on the pizza was exceptional though. Service was good, but when it started to get busier, we had to wait a little longer for refills and for dishes to be cleared from the small table. Ambiance is nice, they left some of the historic touches like the original soda fountain drink bar countertop. The only suggestion I have is that the wine/cocktail menu stated Happy Hour (HH) specials in a tiny box at the bottom, but it is confusing when the check came because they have an actual happy hour menu that we were never given and only select wine, cocktails, and appetizers are part of the HH. So definitely ask for that menu if you are there for HH. Always too full for dessert, so will be back to try those.

Our server was attentive and made sure our waters were filled. Service was pretty quick tbh. Food was very good. If you're looking for reasonably priced Italian dining, this is the place to go. We left this place full with a pasta and pizza to split between two ppl. Expect to take things home for the next day. I absolutely love tiramisu and theirs was to die for. Would def visit this place again!
