I almost don't want to review Marchica's because I don't want to give up this perfect little gem I have found! After several months of trying to find the best barber for my short hair, I believe I have found one in Lynese. Not only was she a BLAST to speak with, she went out of her way to recommend, explain, and carefully tailor my cut to my preferred style and head shape. Lynese even named bones and described how my head structure worked and could work better with my hair. IT GETS BETTER THOUGH. Every detail was thought out and well executed: my cut was carefully done, the room was clearly very well sanitized, the edging was perfectly done with warm shaving cream and a straight razor, and she even shampooed my hair before styling it. I was trying to determine the other day how long I've been going to Lynese to get my hair done. It's somewhere in the neighborhood of eight years. There are many reasons why this is the case. She's one of the most loving, and caring individuals when it comes to taking care of her clients. I just moved to the Austin area 3 months ago and I've been searching for a barber who can do a great job. I'm super particular about my haircuts and I've tried a couple of barbers out since being here but after my initial haircut with Nick, I walked out of there and couldn't help but smile so big because I had finally got the haircut I'd been looking for. Had a wonderful experience with Lynese this Saturday. Let me start by saying that I have not been to a barber in a decade. I used to just shave my head, but in May of 2019 I started growing it out. 20 months later and here we are. My hair was long and out of control. I booked with Lynese after a good bit of research and I could not be happier. I had no ideas on how I wanted it cut but Lynese worked her magic and I am very pleased. She decided to keep it long but cleaned it up well. The neck shave and hot towel were great as well. The best part though had to be the conversation. Typically I hate going to a new barber. It's always disappointing. But not today! Lynese was great! I'm not sure if it was the scented hot towel on my face or the scalp massage or the pleasant conversation, but I left relaxed and happy. And on top of that I offer course got a great hair cut. Had a beard trim with Nick to look the part for a friend's wedding. Although there wasn't much to trim in the first place, my beard left the place looking spectacular! In the process, he explained the nuances and logic behind all of his clippy snips and explained how to not cut a beard which was exactly how my previous barbers were trimming my beard. After the trim, he enlightened me about beard oil and allowed me to sample a few products. The price on the website (a great one BTW) said "$7+" and I had gone with the intention of getting the minimum $7 trim but only after the trim did I know about the extras that my trim consisted of, costing me $15 instead. Hence, a star less. But now I know to ask him for the minimum upfront next time. Excited to get a haircut here! read more

Really liked the haircut I got from Lynese. After losing my longtime barber who had his own shop, I found an acceptable substitute at Floyd's on Lamar. I didn't care that much for the mass production feel of Floyd's, but I put up with it for a year until the lady I had been using suddenly was no longer working there. I suspect there will always be high turnover at a place like Floyd's due to the less than generous terms of the working arrangements with the stylists. After much agonizing, I finally came across Lynese via an extensive search on Yelp. The online appointment system was very easy and let me know exactly what I was getting and how much it would cost. Her shop was convenient to me (MoPac at 183) and I found that she was in a place called Sola Salon which is a good sized building divided into twenty or so individual hair salons rented by different stylists. Seems like a great setup for the stylist who wants to be their own boss and implied a level of stability, which I hope is the case. Lynese turns out to be a lovely woman whose age I would not be so rude as to guess (you can see her photo on Yelp). She couldn't have been more pleasant or professional and I received a great cut for what I thought was a reasonable sum. The prices are part of the appointment process. For men's haircuts she allots 45 minutes and she generally takes that long. After two visits she had my cut exactly the way I want it and it has been smooth sailing ever since. I gave Lynese Marchica a five star rating, which she deserves for her professional abilities, her clean and nicely furnished shop, and the very pleasant treament and conversation you get in the process. I've been getting my hair cut by Lynese for 8 or 9 years now. I've followed her everywhere on her journey from just a [really good] barber, to the manager of an insanely busy barbershop, to a smaller and fancier, albeit awkward, barbershop, to finally starting one of her own. Unlike dentists who make notes in their computers about your chats to bring up next time, Lynese actually remembers what you talked about the last time you were in her chair! She greets you by name, is super professional, and makes the experience super personal. She's a wonderful person. The haircuts are consistently good, and come with a massage, straight razor neck shave, and she even washes your hair. The location is super convenient too, and it's just a one chair operation, so it really is all about you. Lynese's chair is by far the best I've sat in, and I've sat in my share of barbers around world. I've been going to Lynese for a year now, since I've been in Austin, and I have followed her from where I originally met her as a manager, competing for an appointment, to where she is now at her own place, because I quickly grew to see how incredible she is, and is worth following anywhere. It's her personable, yet professional style that makes you feel welcome when you are in her care.
