    A real treat

We arrived here as part of a tour and received the red carpet treatment. You could spend hours inside this restaurant looking at all the nick nacks and photos throughout. It is a quirky place filled with surprises. The food was decent and they were generous with the wine. I had the schnitzel and it was good. The dessert cake was a bit dry but I think that is the style. They also had a wonderful accordion and piano player entertaining us throughout dinner. This place isn't just dinner. It's an experience. And we loved every second of it.

If you're in the area, you NEED to stop by. This is such a fun restaurant, every area is heavily decorated with miscellaneous ornaments, trinkets, memorabilia, etc. Very ostentatious. Not to mention the pleasant surprise for all the ladies and gents in the restrooms :) I think this is where arguably the best wiener schnitzel I had in Austria was. Granted it wasn't veal, it was turkey, but it was SO flavorful, not dry at all, and how it remained crunchy for so long is a mystery. Their goulash was an explosion of flavor; I still dream of it at night. Even the appetizer of homemade sesame-sunflower seed bread with was delicious, I had to restrain myself from asking for seconds. Now for the service aspect, they were very extra and I loved it. Extra as in: rolled out red carpet, ribbon cutting, accordion and violin music to welcome us with, the whole shebang. I felt like the queen. We were a pretty big group however so keep that in mind if you don't get as warm a welcome haha

This is hands down one of the most insane and demented restaurants I've ever visited in the world. After eating here, I know for a fact that I'll always remember this crazy place located in a small town near the outskirts of Vienna, Austria. First off the food is alright. It's not amazing but they do offer a lot of different choices. But honestly, you're not here for the food .. but rather for the completely demented experience. This place is ornate to the point of insanity. The decor is .. interesting and you'll notice it before you even walk in the restaurant. For our group, they even literally rolled out a red carpet before we walked in. Once we got past the gaudy exteriors we were serenaded by violins etc. It was just a surreal experience all around. The interiors were just as insanely ornate. Old muskets, military uniforms, random porcelain and crazy looking lamps were just a few of the items you'll see here. You'll also immediately see that this place has gotten a lot of celebrity traffic .. from A-listers to obscure C-listers from around the world. It's hard to describe in words, but the best way to say it is ... if you're looking for a really interesting experience or you want to hold some crazy birthday or office party .. this is a great place to visit. Again, the food was fine but not incredibly memorable. But if you like to go to crazy places that feature things like a shrine to Falco ... you'll be extremely happy in this eccentric old restaurant.

We came to this AMAZING Dining experience that I have never seen in my life! Our Trafalgar Tour made reservations for us to dine at one of the most famous Restaurants in Vienna in an old Mansion built in 1840 and a place that Napoleon dined at! Since then anyone who is a celebrity has eaten here from all over the world! Their photos and plaques are all over the place! The name of this Restaurant is MARCHFELDERHOF. We were greeted by the owner and his staff who literally rolled out a Red Carpet in the middle of the road for us! From the moment we stepped in it was feast involving all your senses, from the organist to the violinist and the outstanding decor and photos of at least a thousand celebrities both from past history to the present! Even the bathrooms were a piece of art! (Look carefully at all the pictures on a red background wall) The women's bathrooms too were very tastefully decorated! The food was unique and amazing starting from the bread to the salad, main course and desert... see the pics! The wifey had Spare Ribs and I had Fried Beef that amazingly tender and tasteful! The service was amazing and this truly was a dining experience of a life time! The violinist who came to our table was amazing and had a lot of us up and waltzing! IF EVER YOU ARE IN VIENNA THIS IS A MUST PLACE TO GO TO!

This place looks as if it was decorated by a hoarder from the 18th century. The result is a restaurant that looks so over the top and so ridiculous that it works, like that uncle who's jokes are so corny that they turn out funny. Marchfelderhof is a Vienna institution, visited by royals, Napoleon Bonaparte himself, Elvis and a host of other celebrities whose names mark tables where they sat. They had one beloved regular whose favorite table was turned into Mausoleum when he died. Hilarious. You know and realize a restaurant might be overdecorated when you have trouble finding your table on the way back from the bathroom. Speaking of the bathroom, you must visit the bathroom, hidden treasures await. The food is very good. Pork knuckle could satisfy any foodie. The Elizabeth Taylor ribs are named after her, it was first served when she requested ribs which were not on the menu at that time -- but they've been a permanent item since. This place is an event and an attraction. Relax, have a sense of humor, and enjoy the show. Hey, I'm no royal. I'm no celebrity. Why in the world should you listen to me? But if this place was good enough for Elvis, I'll let that speak for itself.

Marchfelderhof has to be seen to be believed. It looks like a hoarders paradise inside but, in a strange way, it has a warm cosy feel. 30 minutes from downtown Vienna, you can see why celebrities come out of their way to be here. We were in Vienna on holiday and, as hubby and I are big fans of the late Austrian singer Falco, we wanted to dine there as this was Falco's favourite restaurant. When I booked, I told them that we were fans and upon being seated, we realised that we were being seated at Falco's private table! The owner - a very eccentric Austrian with Rip Taylor looks complete with moustache - greeted us and asked where we were from and he put a little Australian flag on the table for us. Falco's table/private booth is like a shrine to him: photos, momentos, posters etc of him adorned the booth. The staff were lovely and friendly and spoke very good English. The food is typical Austrian and is amazing - we didn't need dinner that night! The restaurant has a great atmosphere with photos, ornaments ect on every available space. Photos of many celebrities who have dined here are on the walls. When in Vienna, this place is a must do. I know I will be returning, even if just to see Falco's private table again!

I was on a scouting mission last week. I need a restaurant for dinner for about 10 tourists to Vienna and a friend suggested the Marchfelderhof as a perfect restaurant for tourists. I thought I should check it out. Well here's how the evening went. It was easy enough to get there on the train from Wien Mitte. And the atmosphere is unique - K.u.K. (Imperial and Royal) to the max! The food was also fine. My Fleischstrüdel soup was delicious and the main course of Hirschragout was perfectly seasoned and the meat cooked just right. But here's the problem I experienced - the service. They obviously work together as a team as I experienced more than 5 wait staff but there were long gaps....especially at the end of the meal. I couldn't finish my dinner (big portion) and asked for it to be packed up (doggie bagged) for me. Well that took 15 minutes which I counted because I was also looking at the train schedule back to Vienna as I was meeting people in a club. A party of 7 who finished after me also was taking uneaten food home and they received theirs before me. When my Styrofoam container finally came - no bag. They didn't have bags so I am going to have to carry this with two hands walking around town and on the train. Then I finally was able to get the bill after a couple of requests. I was charged for a tasty small cole slaw type dish and a spread-topped bread that they served me without asking. You know I kinda expected that but still I don't like it. And would I have been charged only half price if I only ate the salad and not the bread? Anyway it now took interactions with 4 different waiters for me to pay. Each one when I said I wanted to pay by credit card walked away not to return until a kind waitress took pity on me and completed the transaction. By the way - the restaurant was not very busy on this weekday night - less than half-filled. At the end I was just glad to finally leave and catch a train back to Vienna. The Marchfelderhof is a cool looking place but their motto that everyone is 'treated like an emperor' didn't ring true in my case. I've scheduled the dinner for 10 tourists in another restaurant in Vienna!

We were seated quickly by Renê who - stated simply - provided the absolute best possible service. He provided English menus, provided all kinds of suggestions, was attentive, super-fast (btw, all the while knowing we were only getting a few drinks), responsive, helpful, gave tips, adjusted the menu, checked in on us, etc, etc, etc. Renê, you are awesome. The menu was decent with quite a variety. We would have preferred a greater vegetarian selection but there were options. Additionally, we were in an Irish pub. The coffee/beer/etc arrived quickly and at appropriate temperatures. The plate my wife ordered was of a nice variety (also recommended by Renê) and was tasty and fresh. It was a very nice overall experience. Renê gets an 8, the location gets a 5, the food quality gets a 5. The prices were slightly high but it didn't surprise us based on the location and it wasn't all that bad. If I could do a 4.5, I would.

Might be more $$ than usual for a lunch (cost 29 € with wine) - but nice and worth it to me as tourist getting a solid start to quick weekend in Vienna!!

Food dreams can be restored in future nights to come. I guess I just did not care what anyone thought. I took pics anyway. I just thought I was being sensitive to other patrons. Let's just say I tried to not be too obnoxious about it. So, yes I did consume with my camera first! I can say with absolute certainty, that this was our most perfect and intimate dining experience in Vienna. It was just lunch! The surrounding patrons appeared to be locals with huge platters of piping hot Wienerschnitzel, succulent looking meat falling off the bone....oh my, I could go on and on. Lord help me, that was a great experience. I ordered an exquisite Riesling that was perfect with my meal. I ordered the Goose Soup to start with. I shake my head now in disbelief of how perfect this soup was and LUSCIOUS. It had this potato dumpling in the middle that absorbed the creamy broth with every single bite. I was sad to see the dumpling and soup go away as I savored every spoonful. My husband had a potato soup that included mushrooms and he was pretty much freaking out about his soup as much as I was (in his own, subdued, calm manner....opposite mine!). Then Meine Damen und Herren. We have the Weinerschnitzel. Oh my goodness. We split the massive and simply prepared veal weinerschnitzel with the lemon wedge squeezing the only and perfect seasoning you need for this deliciousness in front of you. I cannot even express the greatness of the potato salad that accompanies. Smooth and creamy mustardy goodness. I would seek out this restaurant again. If every authentic Keller type dining experience is this good in Vienna; I am in big trouble!
